The Art Directors Guild (Iatse Local 800) said today the first-ever program will kick off Monday. The Adg’s Art Directors Council, headed by Jack Fisk, John Iacovelli, and Thomas A. Walsh, created the initiative to match aspiring production designers and art directors with professional guild mentors. Participants selected from college, university, and recent graduate applicants will receive workplace training in film, episodic TV, reality TV, commercial, live event, and theme park art direction. After training for a required minimum of 260 work days, Adg apprentices may be eligible to join the organization with the title of Assistant Art Director.

The Art Directors Guild (Adg) today announced nominations in nine categories of Production Design for theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials and music videos competing in the Adg’s 16th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards for 2011. The nominations were announced by Adg Council President Thomas A. Walsh and Awards co-producers Tom Wilkins and Greg Grande. Deadline for final voting, which is done online, is February 2. The Art Directors Guild (Adg) today announced nominations in nine categories of Production Design for theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials and music videos competing in the Adg’s 16th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards for 2011. The nominations were announced by Adg Council President Thomas A. Walsh and Awards co-producers Tom Wilkins and Greg Grande. Deadline for final voting, which is done online, is February 2. HollywoodNews.com: Emmy Award® winner Bill Taylor, Asc and Emmy Award® winner Syd Dutton have been selected to receive the Art Directors Guild’s coveted honorary Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award, it was announced today by Thomas A. Walsh, Adg President, and Awards co-producers Dawn Snyder and Tom Wilkins. Taylor and Dutton are co-founders of Illusion Arts, where they earned credits on nearly 200 films. As Illusion Arts wound up its 26 year run, the company completed dozens of shots for Michael Mann’s Public Enemies (2009) for supervisor Robert Stadd and some key environments for G.I. Joe. One of their first major assignments was to create special effects for the new version of the television series The Twilight Zone.

The Art Directors Guild, Iatse Local 800, has been restructured in the wake of last year's mergers with Locals 790 and 847.
Local 790 is the Set Designers and Model Makers union, and 847 is the Illustrators and Matte Artists union.
Including the Scenic, Title and Graphic Artists union, which merged with the Adg in 2003, total membership now equals 2,000 and represents most of the art department crafts.
Tom Walsh is president of the board of directors and chairman of the Adg Council. Scott Roth continues to be executive director of the guild, and John Moffitt continues as associate executive director.
The board now includes members from councils representing art directors, scenic and graphic artists, illustrators and matte artists and set designers and model makers.

Legendary director and producer George Lucas has been chosen to receive the Art Directors Guild's Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award in 2009 for his revolutionary films.
The announcement of the selection was made today by the Adg President, Thomas Walsh and co-producers John Sabato and John Janvas.
The award is given to director's whose work in the film industry enhances the visual aspects of the movie-going experience. Previous honorees include Clint Eastwood, Blake Edwards, Terry Gilliam, Ray Harryhausen, Norman Jewison, John Lasseter, Frank Oz and Steven Spielberg.

The Art Director's Guild will induct five legendary production designers into its Hall of Fame next year.
The posthumous honors will go to John Meehan, Ted Haworth, Mac Johnson, Romain Johnston and Harold Michelseon. They will be recognized at the guild's 13th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards ceremony Feb. 14 in Beverly Hills.
The Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of artists who create and evolve art direction for the moving image.
"This continues to be a proud moment for our guild as we look to the past so we may build the bridges to our future," guild chair Thomas A. Walsh said. The posthumous honors will go to John Meehan, Ted Haworth, Mac Johnson, Romain Johnston and Harold Michelseon. They will be recognized at the guild's 13th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards ceremony Feb. 14 in Beverly Hills.
The Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of artists who create and evolve art direction for the moving image.
"This continues to be a proud moment for our guild as we look to the past so we may build the bridges to our future," guild chair Thomas A. Walsh said.
