George (Brian Murphy), y Mildred (Yootha Joyce), eran Los Roper,y encarnaban el ejemplo del matrimonio mal avenido, en el que los cónyuges, no tienen absolutamente nada en común, excepto los continuos reproches que se lanzan, pero que siguen aguantándose durante años.
George, es un tipo vago, torpe y grosero, que no duda en ridiculizar a su mujer en cualquier ocasión.
Mildred, decepcionada por el nulo afecto que su marido le dedica, se dedica a fantasear con sus exacerbados aires de grandeza, y sus frustraciones sexuales.
De pronto, el matrimonio Roper se ve obligado a dejar su casa situada en un humilde barrio obrero, al ser objeto de una expropiación, y así se trasladan a Hampton Wick, una zona residencial , donde Mildred espera mejorar su status social mezclándose con gente de mayor categoría.
Pronto, las torpezas y mala educación de George, sacarán de quicio a sus vecinos Jeffrey y Ann Fourmile, y su pequeño hijo Tristam, interpretados por Norman Eshley, Sheila Feam, y Nicholas Bond-Owen,
Los Roper, fueron extraídos de una serie anterior, llamada "Un Hombre en casa", que también gozó de gran popularidad en aquellos años.
Definitivamente, ha pasado ya a la historia de las comedias televisivas, como una de las más divertidas, gracias a los bien trabajados guiones, y a la soberbia actuación de sus protagonistas.
La muerte de Yootha Joyce, presa del alcoholismo, en 1989, acabó con la serie.

de 27 años llamado Sergei Eisenstein, que concibió todo el film en un guión de un sola página,
y que además era parte de una serie de 8 películas que intentaban narrar la mayor parte de las
acciones revolucionarias. La película comienza con la negación de la tripulación del Acorazado
Potemkin a comer carne en mal estado y llena de gusanos. El amotinamiento se desarrolla y
su líder, Vakulinchuk, es disparado por un joven oficial. Los oficiales de rango superior han sido
destronados y cuando el Potemkin llega a Odessa, la gente aparece por todos los lugares y
quiere saber la causa del marinero muerto y el porqué del comienzo de los actos de rebelión.
Este film, señalado por todos como un hito en la cinematografía, se estrenó en Moscú en Enero
de 1926. Tan sólo estuvo cuatro semanas en cartel.
La escena de la escalera de Odessa es la más emblemática, toda una obra maestra de edición.
Eisenstein contrapone el movimiento rítmico y ordenado de los soldados a la huida caótica de la
multitud que escapa despavorida de las balas de los cosacos. El director introduce historias
humanas que le imprimen dramatismo y acercan la trama al espectador. Esta secuencia es de
estudio obligatorio en todas las escuelas de cine. En 1958, en la feria mundial de Bruselas,
el Potemkin fue nombrada como la mejor película de todos los tiempos.
