The billowing blue sleeves, the star-spangled hot pants, and the seemingly impossible high kicks: Since 1961, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have dazzled audiences with their dynamic dancing, becoming an iconic squad both on and off the field. This summer, the globally recognized Dcc will step off the sidelines and take center stage in America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, a series that reveals what it takes to step into those bright white knee-high boots.
Led by longtime director Kelli Finglass, the franchise has built a legacy –– from auditions and training camps all the way through the NFL season –– where they perform for more than 90,000 fans at all Cowboys home games in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Created by Emmy Award-winning director Greg Whiteley with One Potato Productions and Boardwalk Pictures (the team behind Cheerand Last Chance U), America’s Sweethearts documents the personal stories behind the uniforms, revealing the...

The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders once again will be the subject of an unscripted series — this time at Netflix.
The streamer says its show, titled America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, will premiere in the summer and counts Cheer and Last Chance U’s Greg Whiteley among its executive producers (he also directs). The Netflix series will debut some two-and-a-half years after the long-running Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team ended after 16 seasons on CMT.
Where the latter show often had the structure of a competition series, America’s Sweethearts — at least based on a brief teaser — looks to bring more of a polished, behind-the-scenes feel to its seven episodes. The show will chronicle the 2023-24 season for the cheerleaders and will “document the personal stories behind the uniforms,” according to Netflix’s description.

Greg Whiteley has a new sports docuseries at Netflix that really isn’t new at all. The seven-episode (at 45-minutes apiece) “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” will premiere this summer on Netflix. The streamer first announced the series on Thursday, when it also put out a teaser (below).
Greg Whiteley… Netflix… cheerleading docuseries… Why does this all sound so familiar? Oh yeah, it’s because Whiteley is the guy behind Netflix’s two-season docuseries “Cheer” (as well as the equally excellent five-season “Last Chance U”).
Fans of “Cheer” have been not-so-patiently waiting for a third season, so… isn’t this just that? Why not call “America’s Sweethearts” what it really is: “Cheer” Season 3. That’s what we want.
There’s plenty of precedent here. While “Cheer” Seasons 1 and 2 focused on competitive collegiate cheerleading (mostly) at Navarro College (also in Texas!), Whiteley’s precursor “Last Chance U” not only changed schools — it changed sports.

It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.
Also via Hulu in February comes the third season of Abbott Elementary, along with new episodes of The Connors, The Good Doctor, Will Trent,...

Kate Hudson appeared on “The View” and reflected on the recent 20th anniversary of her iconic romantic comedy “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” The genre has lost much its box office dominance in the decades since Hudson first linked up with Matthew McConaughey to the tune of $105 million at the domestic box office and $177 million worldwide. For comparison’s sake, the just-released rom-com “Anyone But You,” starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, has earned a decent $38 million and counting worldwide.
“It’s hard to get male movie stars to make rom-coms,” Hudson said about the current state of the genre. “That’s a big part of the equation … is to have that event. If we can get more Marvel guys like … hey, come to do a rom-com! That’s part of the formula, too. That event.”

Julia Roberts is an icon of the romantic-comedy genre, but there’s one famous rom-com the Oscar-winner happened to turn down: Nora Ephron’s 1998 classic “You’ve Got Mail.” Roberts revealed the scoop during a recent appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.”
Ephron’s film memorably paired Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the story of business rivals unaware they are falling in love with each other online. “You’ve Got Mail” marked the third Hanks-Ryan romantic comedy after “Joe Versus the Volcano” (1990) and “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), the latter title also being directed by Ephron. Had Roberts taken the role, it would’ve extended her 1990s rom-com streak that already included hits like “Pretty Woman” (1990), “Notting Hill” (1999) and “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (1997).

Actor Emma Roberts made a name for herself by starring in projects like Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story. She also shares her last name, and her blood, with another superstar in Julia Roberts. But how are the two connected?
What is Emma Roberts’ relation to Julia Roberts Julia Roberts | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Emma Roberts actually shares a very close connection to the Oscar-winner. Her father is Julia’s brother Eric Roberts, who’s also a prolific actor himself. Both Roberts’ father and aunt inspired her to pursue an acting career. Roberts once recalled being on the set of her aunt’s Erin Brockovich film, and how that grew her passions even further.

Acting legend Alan Arkin is dead at age 89.
The Oscar, Tony, Emmy, BAFTA, SAG, and Golden Globe winner passed away at his home.
Perhaps best known for his roles in “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “Little Miss Sunshine,” for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award, Arkin began his acting career in 1957 — and ended up with a body of work of startling range. Arkin was an early member of the Second City comedy troupe and starred on Broadway with his Tony-winning turn in 1963’s “Enter Laughing.”
His film breakout was via comedy as well: in his first major onscreen role in Norman Jewison’s 1967 Cold War caper “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming” he plays the “political officer” on a Soviet submarine that runs aground on a small New England island of only 200 residents. The sub’s captain, too embarrassed to radio the motherland for help, sends...

In her 2011 memoir, “Shockaholic,” Carrie Fisher opens with a quote from Jewish poet, playwright and paratrooper Hannah Senesh: “There are stars whose radiance is visible on Earth though they have long been extinct. There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for humankind.”
Self-deprecating to a fault, it’s unlikely Fisher would’ve ever referred to herself in such complimentary terms, but six years after her death, and soon to be bestowed with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 4, it’s impossible to ignore the way her brilliance continues to permeate our cultural consciousness, and how much dimmer the world seems without her.

The Office was a landmark in must-see TV, but revolutionary? That’s what Rainn Wilson called The Office when the show began. He would eventually prove correct as many other shows mimicked the documentary style approach, and cringe comedy of The Office. However, that’s not what he called revolutionary.

Wilson was a part of the very first Television Critics Association panel for The Office in 2005. He described the characters as revolutionary, and here’s what he meant.
Rainn Wilson recognized ‘The Office’ characters had an underlying sadness
Wilson played Dwight Schrute, the Dunder Mifflin employee devoted to Michael Scott (Steve Carell). He would often chastise the likes of Jim (John Krasinski) for not taking the workplace seriously. Wilson recognized a common motivation for all the diverse characters in The Office.

Michael Peterson has spent the last 20 years explaining the death of his wife Kathleen. First, he stood trial for allegedly murdering her, and was convicted in 2003 and sentenced to life. He was released pending a new trial in 2011, and in 2017 pleaded guilty to manslaughter in an Alford plea.
After being released from prison, he largely kept a lower profile, mainly talking about his life in relation to the investigation and trial as it was presented in the 2004 documentary “The Staircase,” which he participated in with his four children — Clayton and Todd Peterson and Margaret and Martha Ratliff. (He also had a 13-year relationship with one of the editors of the doc; they broke up shortly after he was released from jail.)
But Peterson’s quiet period appears to have ended. Of late, after being back in the news because HBO Max has semi-fictionalized his family tragedy into a limited series called “The Staircase,...

"Ding dong, it's America M-Fer!" Netflix has released one more trailer for the animated comedy America: The Motion Picture, a final red band trailer packed with profanity and violence galore. Which is befitting America's sordid history. Debuting on Netflix today - just in time for the 4th of July weekend. In this wildly tongue-in-cheek animated revisionist history, a chainsaw-wielding George Washington assembles a team of rabble rousers — beer-loving bro Sam Adams, famed scientist Thomas Edison, acclaimed horseman Paul Revere, and a pissed off Geronimo — to defeat Benedict Arnold and King James in the American Revolution. This animated movie stars "America's sweethearts" — Channing Tatum (as G.W.), Jason Mantzoukas, Olivia Munn, Judy Greer, Bobby Moynihan (as Paul), Raoul Max Trujillo (as Geronimo), Killer Mike, Andy Samberg, Will Forte, and Simon Pegg (as King James). This is very similar to the original trailer, just with some added "red band" material. It may be extra dumb,...

Netflix has released a ridiculous trailer for its star-studded animated comedy “America: The Motion Picture,” which stars Channing Tatum as the voice of a beefed-up and vulgar George Washington in a satirical take on the American Revolution. The movie hails from “Archer” producer Matt Thompson, who directs a script by “Wonder Woman” writer Dave Callahan. With Tatum in an executive producer role alongside partner Reid Carolin as well as Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the wacky historical comedy is sure to be a hit with its target audience.

Some people might come to a Go-Go’s documentary wanting a purely fun, bubbly experience, based on the effervescence the group projected at its breakthrough peak in the early ’80s. Others might want a sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll tell-all, if they’re aware of the tensions and bad habits that led the all-female band to acrimoniously break up in the mid-’80s.
Debauchery, or debutantes — which vision would director Alison Ellwood (“History of the Eagles”) favor for her film, titled “The Go-Go’s”?
As the group and their director stopped by Variety‘s Sundance studio for a video interview Thursday, right before the film’s premiere, it was clear they were happy that pop-punk frolic got its due in the new movie, since the sordid side of things already got a protracted hashing out in a VH1 “Behind the Music” 20 years ago.

Julia Roberts has a new movie to promote. But since Wonder isn't in theaters until Nov. 17, James Corden wanted to re-promote some of her past projects—26 of them to be exact—on Wednesday's episode of The Late Late Show. Roberts was game to revisit her previous roles—or, to be honest, "as ready as I'm going to get." In under 10 minutes, Corden and Roberts acted out scenes from Notting Hill, Mona Lisa Smile, Larry Crowne, Runaway Bride, Steel Magnolias, Charlie Wilson's War, Mystic Pizza, America's Sweethearts, Eat Pray Love, Closer, Pretty Woman, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Stepmom, Wonder, Mirror Mirror, Flatliners, Hook, Charlotte's Web, Erin Brockovich,...

Things have changed, haven't they? Once upon a time, there were certain Hollywood leading ladies that were known to be dubbed America's Sweethearts. They were your Julia Roberts, your Halle Berrys, your Sandra Bullocks, your Jennifer Anistons... And now, as we continue to welcome a new generation of starlets, we have started to wonder who will take on the throne of being named America's Sweetheart for the younger generation. While there's definitely a number of famous ladies who seem to hold up to the title, there also doesn't seem to be just one star who fits the bill. Here are 10 female stars who we think are in the running to become America's new-age Sweetheart... 1....

It's good to be a celebrity, but it might be even better to be a celebrity's trainer. Think about it: These fit gurus get all of the perks of being rich and famous (fancy cars, fancy houses, carousing with A-listers) with none of the pitfalls that plague the A-listers. Celebrity trainers get to fly on private jets, but they can still hit the Coffee Bean without being mobbed by photographers. That's not to say that getting the stars in perfect shape is easy—on the contrary. First of all, a person has to exercise all day long. There are no cheat days when your one and only livelihood revolves around making sure America's sweethearts look their best. You can't...

America's sweethearts dropped an epic surprise. On Saturday, Taylor Swift shared the stage with Julia Roberts during her 1989 concert in Santa Clara, CA. The ladies were in sync with musician and activist Joan Baez when they strutted to the beat of Taylor's hit "Style." Taylor later shared a sweet Instagram of Julia bowing down to Joan, writing, "Tonight Joan Baez and Julia Roberts danced it out to 'Style'. These two women are my heroes. What an honor." Meanwhile, Julia and Joan showed their love by wearing Taylor t-shirts. The audience was also treated to the stylings of British group Little Mix, who joined Taylor for a rendition of their infectious single "Black Magic." America's sweethearts, Homer and Marge Simpson, made a joint statement regarding the gossip that began earlier this month that they would "legally separate" after 27 seasons and countless quarrels. As it turns out, the rumors were so baseless, not even Homer knew about them.

Breaking news! Apparently, not everyone has a deep obsession with Jennifer Lawrence. Shocking, we know. Chloë Sevigny—actress, model, fashionista, and once described as "the coolest girl in the world" by Jay McInerney in The New Yorker—has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind. And when the 40-year-old star sat down for an interview for V magazine's Spring issue, such was the case. Sevigny, who was also promoting her upcoming coffee book, wasn't afraid to tell it like it is on a variety of topics—including her unpopular view of one of America's sweethearts. It all started when she was asked whether she worries about being typecast, and Sevigny...

Jennifer Lawrence has quite a fan in none other than Julia Roberts! Reese Witherspoon sat down for her first post-arrest interview and revealed "crazy things" about the night of her, now infamous, incident -- including the fact that she told the cop she was pregnant.
The 37-year-old actress spoke with "Good Morning America" host George Stephanopoulos on Thursday. Although she was there to talk about the success of her indie flick, "Mud," the topic of conversation focused mainly on her April 19 arrest in Atlanta. Her husband, Jim Toth, was pulled over on suspicion of DUI and she was later arrested for disorderly conduct after attempting to intervene during the stop.
Witherspoon called the arrest completely unacceptable, saying she and Toth had too much to drink that night and are very "embarrassed." But Stephanopoulos wanted to broach the elephant in the room -- Witherspoon's inappropriate comments to the arresting officer.

When the current theatrical reboot (a sequel and toothless TV remake had already come and gone) of Carrie was announced, there was a lot of teeth gnashing and cries of "leave the classics alone!," mostly by me. But as details began to leak out, the prospect became more intriguing. Gay director Kimberly Pierce gave us the masterpiece Boys Don't Cry, and the fabulous Julianne Moore signed up to play Carrie's psychotic fanatical mother. Chloe Moretz doesn't look anything like Stephen King's Carrie, but then neither did Sissy Spacek, so I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Carrie was supposed to open in March, but the studio has pushed it back to October, which means they're either hoping for Halloween dollars ... or it's a sign of a troubled production.
But while we wait to rain judgment down on the new version of our favorite telekinetic teen, let's take...
