Bill Murray For President!

4 November 2011 9:05 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Who doesn’t absolutely love Bill Murray? Who? Yeah, that’s right, absolutely no one, because he’s bloody brilliant. And here’s further proof – the first image of the sardonic comic actot as 32nd Us President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Murray plays the historical figure in Robert Michell’s Hyde Park On Hudson, which is adapted from a BBC radio play and tells the story of an affair between Roosevelt and his cousin. The story is set against the 1 British monarchy’s visit to the Us in 1939.

Hyde Park On Hudson reunites Murray with Focus Features, the production house behind Lost In Translation, which earned Murray an Oscar nomination in 2003.

First Look: Bill Murray as Fdr in ‘Hyde Park on Hudson’

4 November 2011 7:00 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Forget Ghostbusters III -- Bill Murray has some potentially great stuff coming out. He shot a part in the new Wes Anderson film [1], Moonrise Kingdom, and will have a role in Roman Coppola's second feature [2], A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. And in between those, he played [3] President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in a film called Hyde Park on Hudson. That's the first look at Murray as Fdr, above, and unfortunately it's all we've got right now. But hit the jump to have another look at the details of the movie, in the event you passed over it the couple times we've reported on it in the past. Richard Nelson scripted Hyde Park on Hudson based on his own play, which in turn was based on the 1939 visit by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to America -- the royal couple's first appearance on these shores. [First Look] Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cast In ‘The Last Stand’; Bill Murray Channels Fdr for ‘Hyde Park on Hudson’

3 November 2011 3:42 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

As the headline tells you, right above is your first look at Arnold Schwarzenegger and some of his co-stars in the currently-shooting The Last Stand. The actor tweeted this photo from the set, showing (from left to right) Luis Guzman, Johnny Knoxville, he, and Jaimie Alexander in their law enforcement garb. I don’t intend to be mean — honest — but it’s odd how Schwarzenegger looks younger than Knoxville, a man nearly 24 years his junior. To be fair, if you were on Jackass for a decade…

Kim Ji-woon‘s English-language debut also stars Peter Stormare, Rodrigo Santoro, Zach Gilford, and Harry Dean Stanton, and has a script by Andrew Knauer, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and George Nolfi that centers on “a cop in a border town as he tries to prevent a Mexican drug cartel leader from escaping to his home country.” Short story: Arnold is back to wreak havoc. He’ll »

Bill Murray Joins the Cast of Charlie Sheen’s Comeback Film

28 October 2011 2:15 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Although Roman Coppola’s Charlie Swan probably won’t be mostly known for Bill Murray‘s involvement, we will definitely see a bit of Murray-centric weird quirks, cruel honesty, prodigious talent and total unpredictability. Furthermore, Murray has some history with Coppola, as he was eight years before nominated for his performance in Sofia Coppola’s (Roman’s sister) awesome movie [...]

Production Begins On Bill Murray's Fdr Movie Hyde Park On Hudson

28 July 2011 12:30 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It's still a little hard to get used to the news that Bill Murray-- yes, that Bill Murray, who seems only half-interested in acting these days-- is preparing to play Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Hyde Park On Hudson, a glossy new historical drama from Focus Features and Notting Hill director Roger Michell. Production on the film started today in the U.K., and everything else about the press release has all the prestige film pieces in place-- Olivia Williams as Eleanor Roosevelt, respected British actors Samuel West and Olivia Colman as the King and Queen of England, and Laura Linney as Fdr's distant cousin and mistress Daisy. The story is set when the King and Queen visited Fdr at his estate on the Hudson River, the first time a reigning English monarch had ever visited the United States (those Revolutionary War wounds run deep). 9 May 2011 7:29 AM, PDT | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

The play by Richard Nelson 'Hyde Park on Hudson' which blends history and speculation is being made into a movie and is now in production. History was in the making when the King and Queen arrived at President Roosevelt's upstate New York home on the Hudson River, with a promise of politics and a picnic. No reigning British monarch had ever been to the United States before George VI's visit in 1939, just before a new world war broke out. It was during this June weekend visit, that the scandalous love affair between President Roosevelt and his cousin Margaret Suckley aka Daisy becomes apparent. Bill Murray is the only actor cast in the movie so far, which will be directed by South African Roger Michell, who directed Peter O'Toole in his Oscar-nominated performance in Venus (2006), and is known for Notting Hill (1999) and Changing Lanes (2002). Bill Murray Will Play Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park On Hudson

5 May 2011 9:07 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Any time it’s announced that Bill Murray will star in a movie, it’s exciting news. Quite apart from the fact that he’s one of the greatest comedic big screen presences of all time, the guy is notoriously hard to sign on to any project. But today after months of circling the role, Murray has officially committed to play Franklin D. Roosevelt in the historical drama Hyde Park On Hudson, a film about King George VI and Queen Elizabeth spending a weekend at Fdr’s upstate New York home unsurprisingly called Hyde Park On Hudson. No start date is in place yet as Focus Features plans to seek international buyers for the project at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and given Murray’s official involvement, it shouldn’t be a hard sell. Though this will most likely be a serious role for Murray, the idea of him »

Bill Murray Reportedly Playing FDR, But What About 'Ghostbusters 3'?

30 March 2011 9:15 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

He's busted ghosts, survived zombie apocalypses and lost himself in Japan. Why not add President of the United States to the resume?

Bill Murray, who has veered off the path of comedy towards more dramatic roles in recent years, is reportedly tapping into what would arguably be his most ambitious role to date: President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Vulture broke the news that Murray has agreed to star as the polio-afflicted politician in an adaptation of the British radio play "Hyde Park on the Hudson," which Kevin Loader is producing.

We've reached out to Loader's representatives for confirmation on Murray's casting, and we'll bring you an update as soon as possible.

Murray's turn as Fdr would be fascinating to see, but where does that leave "Ghostbusters 3"? In their own take on the news, Deadline reports that Murray "still hasn't contacted [Sony Pictures] to tell them if he's even read the script," which »
