Votes: 90,881 | Gross: $16.69M
Wonderful mix of narratives and characters. Brings family and individual lives into focus within the picturesque Rome setting. Doesn't seem to have a particular plot apart from a zeitgeist of middle class lives.

Votes: 46,808 | Gross: $11.29M
The first thing that struck me was how beautiful Diane Keaton looks in this film. Other than that, the title says it all and it's a very enjoyable mini-rollercoaster to watch.

Votes: 228,028 | Gross: $23.09M
Nothing to do with tennis, so pleased I gave this a chance! A classic story of love, betrayal and manipulation. You'll feel sorry for some of the characters (Poor Chloe!) and enjoy the London setting.

Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Parker Posey, Joe Stapleton
Votes: 67,045 | Gross: $4.03M
Joaquin Phoenix acts the frustrating arrogant teacher that women fall for. Hilarious twist at the end and part of the excellent series of films featuring Emma Stone. One of the few that doesn't feature Woody Allen acting.

Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Gemma Jones
Votes: 47,532 | Gross: $3.25M
Classic Woody Allen; adultery plus divorce and packed with witty situations. Freida Pinto has a modest role but made some of my favourite scenes. The trailers seem to give the impression it's about old people but trust me, the lead narrative is actually Josh Brolin / Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts / Antonio Banderas.
13. Deconstructing Harry (1997)

Votes: 47,805 | Gross: $10.69M
Quirky style featuring Harry's fantasies, flashbacks and stories he takes from his life to use in his writing. Very enjoyable to watch.

Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Mira Sorvino, Pamela Blair, Rene Ceballos
Votes: 42,792 | Gross: $6.70M
Funny idea (he's looking for his adopted son's mum who turns out to be a prostitute). Plays out really well and very enjoyable to watch, most characters are extremely endearing (unlike some of Woody Allen's which feature rich people with petty problems).
15. Everyone Says I Love You (1996)
R | 101 min | Comedy, Musical, Romance
A New York girl sets her father up with a beautiful woman in a troubled marriage while her stepsister gets engaged.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Goldie Hawn, Julia Roberts, Edward Norton
Votes: 39,402 | Gross: $9.71M
Pleasant musical featuring loads of famous actors including Edward Norton carrying Woody Allen's mannerisms from other films. The singing bits are infrequent and hilariously bad!
16. Small Time Crooks (2000)

A loser of a crook and his wife strike it rich when a botched bank job's cover business becomes a spectacular success.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Tracey Ullman, Hugh Grant, Carolyn Saxon
Votes: 40,642 | Gross: $17.07M
A group of friends create a cover business (cookie shop) so they can tunnel into a bank but the business ends up being a big success. Queue the personal issues (and struggles to fit in with the rich). Enjoyable to watch, this film goes through narrative steps really well (idea - execution - twist - consequence - personal issues - loop back to fantasising about an earlier simpler life).

Simple story of a trio of couples getting together and typical Woody Allen love-pentagon. A touch of fantasy adds to the fun.

Votes: 25,473 | Gross: $3.76M
Not directed by Woody Allen but has lots of great characteristics from his films. Nice idea for a story about a man that accidentally becomes a gigolo!

Cute film centred on the radio and the lives of a few people including a child narrated by Woody Allen. Enjoyable and very sentimental.

Alvy Singer, a divorced Jewish comedian, reflects on his relationship with ex-lover Annie Hall, an aspiring nightclub singer, which ended abruptly just like his previous marriages.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Tony Roberts, Carol Kane
Votes: 278,338 | Gross: $39.20M
Intimate story and many enjoyable aspects however the contextual references are a bit lost on me resulting in slight disappointment. I don't think it's essential viewing and not LOL funny. I recommend watching many Woody Allen films others first.

R | 96 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance
The life of a divorced television writer dating a teenage girl is further complicated when he falls in love with his best friend's mistress.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Mariel Hemingway, Michael Murphy
Votes: 147,220 | Gross: $45.70M
Not as enjoyable as I hoped. The contextual references are lost on me and I felt a tiny bit uncomfortable with the age difference relationship - seemed unnecessary. Many sweet aspects but I recommend watching other Woody Allen films first. Mariel Hemingway is a perfect actress in her role, big credit to her!
25. Midnight in Paris (2011)

While on a trip to Paris with his fiancée's family, a nostalgic screenwriter finds himself mysteriously going back to the 1920s every day at midnight.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Kurt Fuller
Votes: 449,793 | Gross: $56.82M
A little bit annoying, Owen Wilson meets famous people from the past around the streets of Paris. Need to watch again, not sure if I enjoyed it but feel like it's worth another go...
26. Bullets Over Broadway (1994)

Simple idea; gangsters fund a show and insist on their girl having a good role... Very watchable.
27. Melinda and Melinda (2004)

Two alternating stories, one comedy and the other tragedy, about Melinda's attempts to straighten out her life.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Will Ferrell, Vinessa Shaw, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Wallace Shawn
Votes: 33,205 | Gross: $3.83M
The story is told partly by going to a group of writers/friends creating a narrative then the narrative itself. As ever, it's about relationships and features a funny twist. Always good to see Will Ferrall and Steve Carell!
28. Hollywood Ending (2002)
PG-13 | 112 min | Comedy, Romance
A director is forced to work with his ex-wife, who left him for the boss of the studio bankrolling his new film. But the night before the first day of shooting, he develops a case of psychosomatic blindness.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Téa Leoni, Bob Dorian, Ivan Martin
Votes: 28,135 | Gross: $4.84M
Just silly, very close to slapstick. As stupid as it is (blind man directing a film), it's easily watchable. I find it fascinating how Woody Allen pitches these films!
29. Sweet and Lowdown (1999)
PG-13 | 95 min | Comedy, Drama, Music
In the 1930s, jazz guitarist Emmet Ray idolizes Django Reinhardt, faces gangsters and falls in love with a mute woman.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Sean Penn, Samantha Morton, Woody Allen, Ben Duncan
Votes: 36,664 | Gross: $4.20M
I appreciate the alternative narrative (fake documentary) and it put together some brilliant things (jazz, trauma, personal catastrophe). My problem with it was how unlikable the protagonist is, perhaps that's my basic tastes in films. In many ways the outcome of this film is anti-Hollywood, it's not a kiss an make up - it's more of a mess up and keep messing up! I guess for that it's worth watching!
30. The Curse of the Jade Scorpion (2001)

An insurance investigator and an efficiency expert who hate each other are both hypnotized by a crooked hypnotist with a jade scorpion into stealing jewels.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Greg Stebner, Woody Allen, John Tormey, John Schuck

Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Martin Landau, Woody Allen, Bill Bernstein, Claire Bloom

Another film about cheating and middle class problems. Not the most interesting but a few good jokes and storytelling make it watchable.

With a serial strangler on the loose, a bookkeeper wanders around town searching for the vigilante group intent on catching the killer.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Michael Kirby, David Ogden Stiers
Votes: 18,135 | Gross: $2.74M
Murder mystery, not as interesting as Woody Allen's others but apparently it's a clever film that plays homage to all sorts of things... Generally ok to watch.
33. Whatever Works (2009)

A middle-aged, misanthropic divorcé from New York City surprisingly enters a fulfilling, Pygmalion-type relationship with a much younger, unsophisticated Southern girl.

In czarist Russia, a neurotic soldier and his distant cousin formulate a plot to assassinate Napoleon.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Georges Adet, Frank Adu
Votes: 40,830
Quirky film about a plot to assassinate Napoleon. Diane Keaton is wonderful in it and the story follows a simple linear narrative. A few parts are spoilt by annoying 'comedy' and randomness.
38. The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985)
PG | 82 min | Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
In 1935 New Jersey, a movie character walks off the screen and into the real world.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Mia Farrow, Jeff Daniels, Danny Aiello, Irving Metzman
Votes: 55,252 | Gross: $10.63M
Straightforward premise of a character that walks out of the cinema into our world. Similar to 'Play it again, Sam'. Watchable but not the most interesting.
39. Scenes from a Mall (1991)
R | 89 min | Comedy
On their 16th anniversary, a married couple's trip to a Beverly Hills mall becomes the stage for personal revelations and deceptions.
Director: Paul Mazursky | Stars: Bette Midler, Woody Allen, Bill Irwin, Daren Firestone
Votes: 5,225 | Gross: $9.56M
Not directed and produced by Woody Allen but he stars... Almost the opposite of one of the characters he would normally write/play. There's literally a scene of him with a pony tail and surfboard in California! Almost a parody of Woody's films but sadly the story isn't interesting.
40. Take the Money and Run (1969)
PG | 85 min | Comedy, Crime
The life and times of Virgil Starkwell, inept bank robber.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Janet Margolin, Marcel Hillaire, Jacquelyn Hyde
Votes: 31,459 | Gross: $0.72M
Brilliant early Woody Allen film demonstrating the characteristics of many films to be created in the future. A beautiful co star, slapstick comedy, awkwardness... Similar to Zelig based on a mockmentary of a terrible criminal.

Votes: 19,736 | Gross: $10.76M
Woody's contribution is one of three short stories in the collection. It's typical Woody and pleasantly on the humorous side.

When a bumbling New Yorker is dumped by his activist girlfriend, he travels to a tiny Latin American nation and becomes involved in its latest rebellion.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Louise Lasser, Carlos Montalbán, Nati Abascal
Votes: 37,785 | Gross: $11.80M
Silly story about a random New Yorker becoming the leader of a faux-Cuba. Dips into slapstick which I don't like. Overall watchable but nowhere near my favourite Woody Allen style.
43. Don't Drink the Water (1994 TV Movie)

An ordinary American family goes on vacation to Europe. Because of the Cold War they are stuck in the U.S. Embassy surrounding by the Soviet forces.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Woody Allen, Julie Kavner, Ed Herlihy, Josef Sommer

Annoying and very claustrophobic (as intended, they are after all stuck in a hotel). Makes sense for a play but almost unwatchable as a film.
44. Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)

Between two Thanksgivings two years apart, Hannah's husband falls in love with her sister Lee, while her hypochondriac ex-husband rekindles his relationship with her sister Holly.
Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest, Michael Caine, Barbara Hershey
Votes: 76,759 | Gross: $40.08M
Film about a family and their individual problems. Not particularly interesting but Woody Allen's hypochondria provides some humour because for once he might have something wrong with him...
