Back in the days of Blockbuster and local video rental stores, there was always that one rack — the one packed with horror flicks with gory-looking covers that scared Eighties and Nineties kids witless. Now, that same vibe has come to Shudder in the form of Josh Forbes’ Destroy All Neighbors, starring none other than Eighties hero Alex Winter.
Winter, star of 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1987’s The Lost Boys, has mostly been in his writer-director era for the past few decades — save for a recent appearance as Bill S.

The core creative team are ‘tinkering’ with an idea for Bill & Ted 4, reveals Alex Winter.
It’s far from assured, but it seems that the creative minds behind 2020’s Bill & Ted Face The Music are playing with the idea of revisiting the series’ beloved characters once more.
Alex Winter forms one half of the titular duo, and while out on the press tour for Destroy All Neighbors, he spoke on The Sarah O’Connell Show about the prospect of re-teaming with co-star Keanu Reeves for another turn as Bill S Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan, the beloved pair of slackers who are eternally on the verge of actually doing something meaningful with their lives.
Apparently, Winter and Reeves are working with the series’ writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson to figure out if there’s another story to tell… and it looks like that might possibly be the case.

Kohn’s Corner is a weekly column about the challenges and opportunities of sustaining American film culture.
As actors continued to strike this week, the biggest stories about performers were unrelated to the unions. First came 21-year-old YouTube and Twitch streamer Kai Cenat being charged with inciting a riot after his impromptu Union Square giveaway led thousands to storm the park. Then came the shocking announcement that 10-year-old internet rapper Lil Tay had died under mysterious circumstances, followed by the revelation a few hours later that Lil Tay was actually alive and well but the victim of a hack.
Welcome to the wild, wild west of the online creator economy that drives so much of popular culture. While SAG-AFTRA and the WGA want streaming-dominated Hollywood to provide a better support system, the internet has no infrastructure to strike against. A few weeks ago, I wrote about how documentarians have no union,...

The big movie studios opted out of San Diego Comic-Con 2023, meaning the event didn't have all the air sucked up by the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe news for once. One of the most exciting announcements was "Lazarus," a new sci-fi thriller anime from Shinichirō Watanabe and Studio Mappa.
The announcement came with a teaser trailer; Watanabe's animes always have a musical theme and it looks like "Lazarus" will have the same jazzy score as "Bebop" (this time performed by saxophonist Kamasi Washington). Rather than a U.S. import like most anime, "Lazarus" will premiere on Toonami (the production team is aiming to be finished by the end of 2024). The American influence doesn't stop there, for the action scenes will be designed by "John Wick" director Chad Stahelski. Watanabe crafts animated action with unrivaled fluidity, so him and Stahelski working together is a dream team.

Chicago – In a manifestation of his most famous catchphrase, filmmaker Alex Winter, also known as Bill of “Bill & Ted” fame, wants us to “be excellent to each other” when it comes to our interaction on a certain online video sharing website. He ponders all the implications in his new documentary “The YouTube Effect.”
Rating: 4.0/5.0
In a stylish and vital breakdown regarding the growth of YouTube, owned by Google (which is not well known), Winter tells a story of a noble 2005 origin aspiration that lost its way due to its sheer popularity, and is now dangerously used for propagating radicalism and affecting elections. Google is the number one most searched website in the world. Number two? YouTube … and they’re both owned by the same business. Using a stylish palette, director Winter tells a cautionary tale, that could explode into a “it may be too late” scenario. While Facebook and Twitter...

After finding his Clark Kent and Lois Lane, James Gunn is moving furiously to populate his Metropolis with a bevy of other DC heroes for Superman: Legacy.
Anthony Carrigan, fresh off an Emmy nomination for his standout work in HBO’s Barry, has been cast as classic DC character Metamorpho, aka archeologist-turned-hero Rex Mason. He joins the feature that will formally launch DC’s new universe under filmmaker Gunn and his DC Studios co-boss Peter Safran.
Also on the call sheet are Isabela Merced, playing Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific; and Gunn stalwart Nathan Fillion as macho Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Those castings were announced Tuesday.
The deals are being made in the shadow of a looming actors strike. A SAG-AFTRA strike could commence as early as midnight Pt July 12, and if that were to happen, any negotiations between representatives and studios would stop like a speeding bullet...

Before his passing, the late Eddie Van Halen was offered a cameo in Bill & Ted Face the Music, the third entry in the time-traveling buddy comedy trilogy.
In fact, Eddie was offered a spot in all three Bill & Ted films, according to actor Alex Winter (who plays the title character Bill Preston in the franchise). Evh declined the offer for the first two films, but it sounds like he would have entertained the cameo in Face the Music if not for his ailing health at the time. (Spoiler alert for those show haven’t seen it yet…)
“We asked Eddie to be in every single movie and every single movie he said ‘no,'” Winter said on Darren Paltrowitz’s “Paltrocast.” “So when we got to ‘Bill & Ted 3‘ — and this is a somewhat bittersweet anecdote — we had a whole sequence which ended up being the Dave Grohl sequence.

If you don’t know Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi for his music, you might know him from his acting roles in films like Bill & Ted Face the Music, X, Don’t Look Up, and House Party. Deadline reports that Mescudi has just lined up his next movie, signing on to star in the action horror comedy Hell Naw – which is being produced by Sam Levinson, creator of the HBO series Euphoria.
Keith and Kenny Lucas, the Oscar-nominated writers of Judas and the Black Messiah, are writing the screenplay for Hell Naw, but plot details are being kept under wraps. All we know at this time is that the story takes place during Paris Fashion Week and there will be zombies.
Mescudi is producing the film with Karina Manashil and Dennis Cummings through their company Mad Solar, while Sam Levinson and Ashley Levinson produce through their company Little Lamb. Bron and H.

Netflix has ordered its first ever pilot. The streaming giant, which has typically opted to order projects straight to series, has greenlit a pilot for the single-camera comedy “Little Sky,” Variety has confirmed.
Samara Weaving is attached to star in the pilot, which hails from creator Rightor Doyle.
According to an invidual with knowledge of the situation, Netflix does not plan to shift to the traditional broadcast model of ordering multiple pilots and comparing them for potential series orders. The “Little Sky” pilot is the only one planned at present.
Nevertheless, the fact that Netflix is willing to order a pilot is significant. The streamer has heavily influenced broadcast networks and other outlets in recent years into using a script-to-series model and mini rooms, the latter of which are a sticking point in the current WGA negotiations. To that point, the number of pilots ordered at the major broadcast networks...

"Trolls" might not be the biggest animated movie franchise out there, but it has played an oddly crucial role in movie history. The first movie, which introduced singing troll protagonists Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake), was released in 2016 to generally warm reviews and a modest $346.9 million at the worldwide box office. When the coronavirus pandemic hit U.S. shores in 2020, shortly before the scheduled release of "Trolls World Tour," Universal Pictures made the bold decision to release the movie simultaneously in theaters and on Premium VOD.
Three weeks later, "Trolls World Tour" had reportedly racked up $100 million in digital rentals. Theater owners were definitely not happy, but studios across Hollywood saw a ray of hope breaking through the doom-laden clouds of lockdown. With "Trolls World Tour" having survived and thrived in the relatively untested waters of PVOD, the same approach was used for movies like "Bill & Ted Face the Music...

Original "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" scribes Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson are almost extensions of their characters. They've written all three movies in the series, maintaining their close friendship for over forty years. From the script's first draft, the idea was less about a time-traveling history lesson and more about making a buddy movie with two lovable rockers. The SoCal duo, known as the Wyld Stallyns, didn't necessarily have to go on a grand adventure through time to be compelling. Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) wandering around the quiet suburban streets of San Dimas, California, jamming guitar and hanging out at the Circle K could've been a great mumblecore movie all on its own.
The same could be said for "Back to the Future." When Marty McFly plugs into that Gibson Ga-5T and sends himself flying through the air in a sonic blast, he already seems like your new best friend.

"Bill & Ted Face the Music" was one of my favorite movies that I saw during lockdown. I saw many better films too, but there was something about the eternal optimism and good nature of William S. Preston, Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves) that made them feel like the kind of heroes we needed during a pandemic, one of the weirdest and most uncertain situations many of us have ever experienced.
Stuck at home for far longer than natural, it was comforting to hang out with old screen pals in lieu of our real-life friends. This may be why the era of Covid-19 also saw the unlikely phenomenon of people binge-watching old episodes of "Columbo." Perhaps there isn't too much difference between Bill and Ted and Peter Falk's shambling detective. The movies and the show are set in sunny California; the stakes are low; and the protagonists are unassuming,...

Evan Rachel Wood, Josh Gad and Anthony Carrigan will star in “The Adults,” a new crime drama from Alex Winter.
“The Adults” follows a sister and brother, Megan and Nathan (Wood and Gad), whose lives are completely upended when they discover a dead body, long buried in their parent’s basement. That revelation sends them on an odyssey of crime and murder.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Evan, Josh and Anthony on this darkly comic crime drama, which takes a sly look at the challenges we all face today, trying to survive in the modern world,” Winter said.
CAA Media Finance, which is arranging financing for the film, will represent the domestic sale, while Rocket Science will launch international sales at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.
The film is being produced by Winter, Scott Kroopf of Many Rivers Productions, and Russell Hollander. It is executive produced by Connie Tavel.

In 1989 audiences were introduced to two of the most loveable dimwits the world had ever seen in the form of Bill S. Preston, Esq. (Alex Winter) and "Ted" Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves). Along with them came some of the best catchphrases to ever hit the silver screen. The film was "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure," and it spawned two sequels; "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" in 1991 and "Bill & Ted Face the Music" in 2020.
The premise takes a little explanation if you haven't seen it. (Please remedy that right now.) High school students Bill and Ted are best buddies, and they're super dopey but sweet. One would assume these guys would grow up to do nothing but smoke weed in their parents' basements, but friends, they're going to save humanity. In the year 2688, the world became a utopia, based on the music from Bill and Ted's band Wyld Stallyns. To...

As the calendar flips over to 2023, Prime Video is attempting to start a new year on the right track with fresh seasons of some major originals.
Prime Videos’ list of new releases for January 2023 is highlighted by Hunters season 2 on Jan. 13. The first season of Hunters was set in 1977 and followed young Jonah Heidelbaum’s (Logan Lerman) introduction to a world of Nazi-hunting. After a lengthy wait for season 2, the fresh (and final) batch of episodes will find Jonah and friends venturing to South American to take out none other than Adolf Hitler, himself.
While Nazi-hunting undoubtedly takes up a lot of streaming space, two other Amazon original series of note arrive in January. The Rig, a supernatural thriller set on a Scottish oil rig, premieres Jan. 6. That will be followed by season 2 of fantasy role-playing animated series The Legend of Vox Machina on Jan. 20.

The new year is upon us and Amazon Prime Video is kicking things off in grand fashion. Not only are they debuting the third season of their Tom Clancy adaptation “Jack Ryan,” they’re also debuting the final season of the ambitious, Al Pacino-starring actioner “Hunters.”
Initially debuting to the service in February of 2020, right as the pandemic started, the series’ first season follows a ragtag group of Nazi hunters in 1977 New York City. The so-called Hunters discover that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living in the United States and are conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in America. The Nazi hunters, led by Pacino, will embark on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their genocidal plans. The series concluded in 2020 and has taken some time to get back to screens. Unfortunately, this second season will be a finale as well so fans...

2023 is upon us, and you know what that means. The year of "Morbius" is no more. Now is the year of "M3GAN," and may her reign be a glorious and unholy one. Movies about dancing killer robot dolls aside, though, the box office looks to grind to a halt come January, as is its annual custom. That makes this the perfect time to either get caught up on or revisit some of the most popular franchises in Hollywood ahead of their return to the big screen in 2023.
Fortunately, both Prime Video and its free (with ads) sister channel, FreeVee, have got you covered. All four "Indiana Jones" movies and four of the six "Mission: Impossible" films will be hitting the streamers in the lead-up to their latest sequels arriving next summer. New seasons of "The Legend of Vox Machina" and "The Test" will also premiere in January, along with the...

One of the weirdest things about getting older are those moments when you look around and suddenly realize everybody else looks ancient too; your family, friends, and those celebrities and movie stars you grew up watching and assumed would stay young forever.
My brain still struggles to compute the fact that Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp are both almost 60. Pitt still looks great; I have no data to support this, but I'm sure millions of middle-aged men were inspired to renew their gym membership after he took his shirt off in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." On the flip side, Depp now looks like a guy who lives on a canal boat with several cats.
Belated remakes and reboots can show their age, too. "Trainspotting" was the acerbic voice of a restless generation, while the cringey retread of the "Choose Life" speech in the sequel was just like Grandpa Simpson yelling at clouds.

Last week, fans were shocked and delighted by the news that a dormant DC franchise would receive a sequel with its original star and director set to return. No, sorry Henry Cavill fans, there’s still no word on a Man of Steel sequel. Still, if it’s any consolation, Keanu Reeves and director Francis Lawerence will take another stab at a Constantine film, after their original installment was released more than 15 years ago in 2005. The new film will be written by Akiva Goldsman and will see Reeves reprise his role as a supernatural exorcist and demonologist John Constantine.
Constantine was a modest hit upon release, grossing 232 million worldwide on a 100 million budget. Still, it was the highest-grossing DC superhero movie that didn’t feature Batman or Superman prior to the release of Wonder Woman in 2017. With its religious horror bent and superhero connections, it was a novel property in...

The last few months have been worrisome for lovers of animation, as streamers purge their animated offerings, including exclusive programming. Fortunately, all is not lost, as Netflix released the trailer for the upcoming "Entergalactic," a gorgeous original series from Kid Cudi and Kenya Barris. The animation style looks quite a bit like the revolutionary designs of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which is not only by design, but also a testament to the innovation of the animated medium. Every single frame looks like a work of art, and I guarantee whatever these animators were paid, it wasn't enough -- this trailer is breathtaking.
Set in the bustling, magical NYC, "Entergalactic" is about an artist named Jabari (Scott Mescudi/Kid Cudi) who falls in love with his new neighbor, a photographer named Meadow (Jessica Williams). There's only one problem, Jabari just got out of a relationship with his ex Carmen (Laura Harrier...

Remember that blood bath that was suppose to occur between two major studio animated family films during the first weekend of October?
Well, as reporter earlier this week Sony decided to go into talks with Amazon to sell off their Hotel Transylvania 4, and now MGM/United Artists Releasing is taking their sequel Addams Family 2 theatrical day-and-date on PVOD for $19.99. The release date remains Oct. 1.
All of this occurs due to the rising delta variant, the fact that kids are still unvaccinated and markets like NY and LA are requiring vax cards. When it comes to these family titles, you’ve got to give them an option to watch it where they feel comfortable, and that’s what studios are doing.
Greg Tiernan, Conrad Vernon and Laura Brousseau direct the sequel; the first animated feature grossed $203.7M WW.

For the longest time, a third Bill & Ted movie seemed like a most excellent pipe dream. The type of thing pals would joke about over some far out herbal pairings and good vibes. Screenwriter Ed Solomon, who co-created Bill & Ted with Chris Matheson for 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure certainly seemed surprised when last year’s threequel, Bill & Ted Face the Music, actually came to fruition. And when we caught up with him for this month’s theatrical and HBO Max release of No Sudden Move, his appreciation of the fans who he credits with getting the third movie made is also why he remains undecided about doing a fourth adventure… even as he leaves the door cracked open.
“Will there be another?” Solomon tells us. “I’m not sure. I initially thought we were done on Face the Music, but if we could come up with something that was really worth doing,...
