In 2007, Berry starred in the Susanna Bier movie Things We Lost in the Fire. The feature saw Berry playing a mother and widow of two children reeling from the loss of her husband. To make sure her performance was authentic, Berry went deep into the mindset of her tormented character.

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars and directors and producers! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
Today we talk about a true professional. An actor’s actor. The great Benicio Del Toro! Conor and I are joined by filmmaker and returning guest Chadd Harbold, who produced the new, impressive film Linoleum, starring Jim Gaffigan and Rhea Seehorn, out in theaters now.
The Benicio Del Toro B-Sides discussed are: The Funeral, Excess Baggage, The Hunted, and The Wolfman. Plenty more Del Toro films are referenced, including the masterful Things We Lost in the Fire.
We discuss his perfect accent in The Usual Suspects, his deep love for The Wolf-Man, the elemental beauty of The Hunted, and all of the scene-stealing he did as a young actor in small parts.

It felt at first like just another zippy episode of Station 19: sexy thanks to Maya and Carina, whose lovemaking prowess her wife accidentally rated aloud, funny thanks to Sulivan, who thought his Fire Zaddy promo pictures made it look like he was selling cologne, and real thanks to Travis and Emmett, who requested that his boyfriend’s wedding picture be moved out of the bedroom. That, or “I’ll just continue making eye contact with your dead husband every time we have sex.”

Although we're excited for the crossover, we may not like the outcome of it. In the Station 19-Grey's Anatomy crossover, airing Thursday, Nov. 11, an explosion rocks Seattle and from the looks of the trailer, someone doesn't make it out alive. From scenes of burning homes, to firefighters rushing down stairs trying to help people evacuate, the Station 19 episode, "Things We Lost in the Fire," starring Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George and Boris Kodjoe, looks like a tearjerker. The preview shows firefighters as they react to the explosion and rush to clear homes, unaware that it will changes their lives forever. Meanwhile, in the Grey's Anatomy portion of the crossover,...

Chilean director Domingo Sotomayor is re-teaming with Sao Paulo-based Rt Features to make her third feature, “Niebla.”
CAA Media Finance arranged the financing and will represent sales rights. The cruise ship-set drama is currently in development and set to shoot in 2022.
Rt Features previously co-produced Sotomayor’s second feature, “Too Late to Die Young,” which saw her become the first woman to win a best director Leopard at Switzerland’s Locarno Festival.
Written by Sotomayor, “Niebla” reprises a scenario sketched in hugely different contexts in “Thursday Till Sunday” and “Too Late to Die Young” of characters on the brink of self-awareness at critical junctures in their lives.
Here, however, the protagonist is an adult, not the children of “Too Late to Die Young” nor the lovelorn adolescent of “Too Late,” and most seem in denial.

“Call Me By Your Name” and “The Lighthouse” producer Rodrigo Teixeira of Rt Features, and Lourenço Sant’Anna, also a producer on “The Lighthouse,” have teamed with Prano Bailey-Bond on “Things We Lost in the Fire,” her follow-up to her breakout Sundance title “Censor.”

In the film, a terrorized female community resorts to ever more extreme actions in response to male violence. Michelle Pfeiffer has signed on to star as Betty Ford in the upcoming Showtime series “The First Lady,” Variety has learned. In addition, Susanne Bier has signed on to direct and executive produce the anthology series.
Formerly known as “First Ladies,” the show is described as a reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House. Pfeiffer joins previously announced cast member Viola Davis, who will star as Michelle Obama. The first season of the series will also explore the life of Eleanor Roosevelt, with that role yet to be cast.
Ford was the First Lady of the United States from 1974 to 1977 as the wife of President Gerald Ford. She was active in social policy and set a precedent as a politically active presidential spouse and one of the most candid first ladies in history, commenting on every hot-button issue of the time.

Diane Weyermann, the content chief for Participant Media, has stepped down as co-chair of the international feature film’s executive committee, Variety has confirmed.
Weyermann decided to leave her role as co-chair of the executive committee due to her professional relationship with the documentary “Collective,” which has been selected to represent Romania in this year’s International Feature Film competition. “Collective” was produced by Participant.
Alhough Weyermann is not personally credited on the film and was not responsible for the financing, Participant—for which she is head of documentaries—co-acquired the film and is handling its release.

Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier has bounced back in a big way. Her career came into sharp focus in the early aughts, but was minted later that decade when “After the Wedding” (2006; it made Mads Mikkelsen a household name) and “In a Better World” (2010) both scored Academy Award nominations for Best Foreign Language Film (“In A Better World” would win). She had done Hollywood in between (the underrated “Things We Lost In The Fire”; 2007), but she was poised for huge things when Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper had agreed to star in “Serena” just as both their stars were going supernova (Lawrence was already an Academy Award winner before the film’s release).

This is a major coup for HBO — Susanne Bier has signed on to direct all six episodes of The Undoing, the network’s high-profile upcoming limited series starring Nicole Kidman and written by David E. Kelley.
Bier, who also will serve as an executive producer, has been at the top of every network’s list of director choices following her work on The Night Manager, which earned her an Emmy Award. She had been unavailable, working on her feature Bird Box; this marks her first TV commitment since The Night Manager and first for an American TV production. Like the British The Night Manager, The Undoing is a limited series with Bier as the sole director.

“The Night Manager” filmmaker Susanne Bier has been set as the director for “The Undoing,” HBO’s next limited series from Nicole Kidman and “Big Little Lies” boss David E. Kelley, an individual with knowledge of production tells TheWrap.
Based on the book “You Should Have Known” by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the six-episode series stars Kidman as Grace Sachs, a loving wife, devoted mother and successful therapist whose life unravels when she makes discoveries about her husband’s past.
Here’s the official logline for the series: Grace Sachs (Kidman) is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. She’s a successful therapist, has a devoted husband and young son who attends an elite private school in New York City. Overnight a chasm opens in her life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations.

Danish director Susanne Bier is president of the jury for its Venice Virtual Reality section. Over the past three decades, she’s received widespread acclaim for projects ranging from the globe-trotting 2016 miniseries adaptation of John le Carre’s “The Night Manager,” which earned her an Emmy, to dark family dramas such as 2007’s “Things We Lost in the Fire” and 2010’s “In a Better World,” the latter of which won the Oscar for best foreign language film. But she’s never worked in an “immersive” medium, be it virtual reality (Vr), augmented reality (Ar) or mixed reality (Mr).
Why do you think Venice chose you for the jury?
I guess I’m a traditional narrative filmmaker, but I come out of a more innovative cinema. At times, I thought I was sitting somewhere in between being considered way too mainstream and way too arthouse. So I’m very honored, but...

It’s a valuable resource that has launched countless careers and contained work that led to great movies, but taking first place on the annual Black List — a collection of the best unmade screenplays in Hollywood, coming up to its 13th year — isn’t necessarily a guarantee that your movie will go on to greatness. Some have been produced only to be greeted tepidly (“Things We Lost In The Fire,” “The Beaver,” “Draft Day”), a couple of outliers did go on to awards-lauded success (“Recount,” “The Imitation Game”), but most, from Western “The Brigands Of Rattleborge” in 2006 to 2014’s “Catherine The Great” biopic, remain unmade to this day.

Now that Daniel Craig has all but bowed out of the title role, with director Sam Mendes following his fellow Englishman out the exit door, a flurry of rumors have swirled around MGM’s as-yet-untitled Bond 25 and, specifically, the talent that will steer the latest installment in the prestigious spy franchise into production.
Over the weekend, news emerged that The Avengers and High-Rise star Tom Hiddleston had reportedly opened talks to supplant Craig as 007, while Jamie Bell of the Fantastic Four was also tipped as one of the frontrunners. But according to the Radio Times, it is the former actor who is much closer to sealing the deal, potentially reuniting with Susanne Bier (The Night Manager) in the process.
