The following recap, by the very definition of the word “recap,” contains spoilers from the Season 3 finale of The CW’s The Flash.
The Flash‘s Season 3 finale made quick work of “resolving” Iris’ death at the hands of Savitar, by revealing — as speculated by many — that prior to the fateful face-off, H.R. used Savitar’s armor fragment to track down Iris and switch places with her using the facial transmogrifier. Happy New Year! It's been a tumultuous year for me and for many of us of a certain age. I lost a brother. The world lost a slew of pop culture -- Carrie Fisher, Alan Richman, Craig Sager, John Glenn -- and music icons -- Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, et al. One comfort for me was music and my rediscovery of vinyl. The warm, comforting sound of analog became my daily meditative fix. Quite literarily. Seeking out vinyl "nuggets" became a quest to help me deal with my own pain and depression. Chasing down albums that I owned thirty years, abadonded at the advent of those shiny new things called compact discs. Restorative analog power reigned o'er me. One of my chief caveats: I would not purchase anything on vinyl that I already owned on compact disc. Well, that rule didn't last long as I found comfort in...

My summer has been filled with deep loss. My younger brother David succumbed to major injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on June 1st. Along with the comfort and love from my family and friends, music was a necessary daily elixir. Many nights I would listen to vinyl in my mother's home, albums I'd left there years ago, or a handful of new/used pieces I picked up at one of my favorite Akron, Oh vinyl shops. The ritual of cleaning each piece, placing it on the turntable, dropping the needle, studying the album art, reading the liner notes... it was a much-needed distraction. Here are three new pieces that have aided me in my latest life's journey.

Never bashful about her beautiful body, Kate Hudson shared a sexy snapshot of her toned tummy with her Instagram followers on Tuesday (October 6).
The “Skeleton Key” star posted the flirty photo in an effort to plug her brand new Fabletics activewear range, including a tiny bra and a pair of shorts.
Kate wrote, "This little bra and boyshort with little tiny hearts all over it. @fabletics #SneakPeek #ValentinesDay2016 #fabletics.” As for the rumors of romance between Kate and a much-younger Nick Jonas, Hudson hasn’t uttered a peep. Fox's Fantastic Four got a Thing-like pummeling at the box office with a $26.2M first outing, allowing Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation to take #1 for the second weekend in a row with $29.4M. Fantastic's $6,558 take per screen underwhelmed across the board and it doesn't look like the Josh Trank-directed film has any hopes of turning things around. The film earned a dismal "C-" Cinemascore, a very low grade for what is supposed to be a summer blockbuster. Pixels, for heaven's sake, earned a "B." The top 12, with $121.7M, was 30.1% lower than last year in this frame ($174.2) when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles surprised with a $65.6M opening weekend and Guardians of the Galaxy had the best 2nd weekend of the summer of 2014, hauling in $42.1M. They contributed to a first ever $1B August, something extremely unlikely to be repeated this year. As for Fantastic Four one has to go back...

She’s never single for long, and Kate Hudson found a new romantic interest in Derek Hough on the heels of her split from Matthew Bellamy.
This past Friday (December 5) the “Skeleton Key” starlet sucked face with the “Dancing With the Stars” stud while dining at the Nice Guy eatery in West Hollywood.
An inside source told Us Weekly, “The were totally kissing! So scandalous!” after witnessing the tonsil hockey session. Previously, Hudson’s rep told E! News that Kate and Matt “have been separated for some time now.” They have a son named Bellamy together.

Ninja Turtles fans old and young showed up at the movies this weekend, driving Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to one of the biggest August openings ever.Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy scored the highest second weekend of the Summer so far.The Top 12 earned $174.2 million this weekend, which is up 22 percent from the same frame last year. This August remains on track to be the biggest ever, and could be the first to pass $1 billion.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ruled the box office with $65.6 million this weekend. That ranks fourth all-time in the month of August. It's noticeably higher than G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra ($54.7 million), though 3D premiums and ticket price inflation likely account for most of that gap. The movie also made more in one weekend than 2007 animated Turtles movie Tmnt earned in its entire run. This strong opening can be attributed primarily to the power of the Ninja Turtles brand.

<< Continued from "Weekend Report"The Hundred-Foot Journey opened in fourth place with $11 million. That's a bit higher than May's Million Dollar Arm; unfortunately, it paled in comparison to similar August releases like Eat Pray Love ($23.1 million) and Julie & Julia ($20 million). With strong word-of-mouth and an audience that skews much older (69 percent over the age of 35), this should hold up well: a total close to $40 million is possible.Rounding out the Top Five, Lucy fell 48 percent to $9.5 million. To date, the Scarlett Johansson/Luc Besson thriller has grossed $97.5 million, and will pass $100 million sometime this week.Step Up All In tanked with $6.5 million this weekend. That's down 45 percent from the previous installment, which was already the lowest-grossing outing in the franchise. Even with solid international returns, it would be surprising if a sixth Step Up got a theatrical release here in the U.S.Lionsgate/Summit has released six movies at over 2,000 locations this year.

If you’ve never listened to horror radio, I wouldn’t blame ya. Most old radio shows are hokey, musty relics of forgotten times, only chilling to housewives in 1942. But there are exceptions, recordings from long ago with strange powers that have only grown over the passing decades. If you can look past the sometimes-dated presentation and put yourself in the right mindset, the best horror radio is like listening to the distant cries of ancient ghosts. Collected below are my ten favorite old-timey radio horror broadcasts. Turn off the lights and listen! [You can hear each episode by clicking on the title.] 1) Suspense: "Ghost Hunt" Forget The Blair Witch Project; this episode of Suspense marks the real beginning of found-footage horror. Recorded way back in 1949, the story is told through audiotapes “discovered” after wacky radio disc jockey Smiley Smith goes mad in a haunted house. Smiley starts off treating his visit like a goofy radio stunt, but before long,...

Jason Statham. Since the dawn of Den Of Geek, he has been our muse. Our mayor. Our driving force. So much so, that we ask lots of people that we meet just what their favourite Statham movie is (including the man himself). Here, we've gathered together lots of the responses we've had in one document.
And so here it is:
Jason Segel: "I guess it would have to be… oh man, there are so many. I’m going to go with The Transporter!"
Seth Rogen: "Crank. And then Crank 2."
Evan Goldberg: "It was him in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, right? That’s the best one."
Alice Lowe: "I've never seen any of his films..... Oh I did!

On a very busy weekend for new releases, Elysium took first place with $29.8 million. The real winner, though, was road trip comedy We're the Millers, which did surprisingly strong business. Meanwhile, Planes got off to a fine start, while Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters opened way below its predecessor.Overall, the Top 12 earned $142.3 million, which is up seven percent from last year. The four new nationwide releases alone combined for $92.9 million, which is a very high figure for the month of August.Elysium's $29.8 million opening was noticeably lower than a handful of strong comparative titles. It was off from 2013 original sci-fi movies Pacific Rim and Oblivion (both over $37 million), and was only narrowly ahead of huge disappointment After Earth ($27.5 million). It was also down from director Neill Blomkamp's first movie, District 9 ($37.4 million). That movie had no stars, and Blomkamp was still an unknown entity, though District 9...

Clearly enjoying their new project together, Kate Hudson showed up on the set of “Good People” in London, England with James Franco today (July 3).
The “Skeleton Key” babe and her “127 Hours” hunk filmed a few kissing scenes on the street where fans and shutterbugs gathered to catch all the action.
And apparently, the terrace house used in the scene was painted to look extra aged over a three-day process.

The film opens on April 5th via Radius TWC, cleverly-scripted by Michael Cooney, with a cast including Jeffrey DeMunn, Frances Conroy, Brooklynn Proulx and Nathan Corddry. In 6 Souls, after the death of her husband, Dr. Cara Harding's (Julianne Moore) faith in God has been shaken, but not her belief in science. New York — They were hooked: The moment singer-songwriter Jim James and his bandmates from My Morning Jacket first wandered into the immersive, genre-bending show "Sleep No More," there was no turning back.
The five guys spent hours wandering around the 100,000-square-foot warehouse space in Chelsea, visiting dozens of carefully designed rooms, following mysterious actors and generally having their minds blown.
"I've never experienced a piece of art like that before," James says by phone from Louisville, Ky. "The thing is just so overwhelming. And you get a sense that you created your experience."
James was so excited that he and some of the band returned the next night and he also came back a few months later. So it comes as no surprise that he picked "Sleep No More" as one of the stops on his new tour promoting "Regions of Light and Sound of God," his first full-length solo album.

Dylan McDermott, who’s returning to American Horror Story, also revealed that he is joining the cast of Mercy, a film adaptation based on the Stephen King short story Gramma (which was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft). The story came from King’s Skeleton Key, a short story anthology.
The film is directed by Peter Cornwell (The Haunting In Connecticut) and is another film from Blumhouse Productions. Last week it was announced that child stars Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead) and Joel Courtney (Super 8) had joined the cast. Along with Frances O’Connor, this cast is coming together pretty nicely (and quickly!). With the Lovecraft and King vibes, you can bet we’ll be covering it the whole way.

Paranormal Activity producer/found footage maven Jason Blum’s Blumhouse productions is targeting Stephen King in a big way at the moment. One of the two big projects bubbling away at the company in Mercy, which Peter Cornwell is busy developing to direct. He’s just hired Dylan McDermott to co-star. McDermott, who last tackled a creepy tale with the first season of American Horror Story on TV, is joining the film to star alongside Frances O’Connor, Chandler Riggs and Joel Courtney.Mercy, adapted from the short story Gramma that appeared in King’s Skeleton Key collection, finds two lads discovering that their grandmother – the titular Mercy – is a witch. Naturally, that will cause some problems for the family. O’Connor will play their mother.Cornwell has Matt Greenberg- who last worked in the King realm with 1408 – on script duty and McG is also throwing his weight behind the project as a producer.

And this is what the title screen song for Team Meat's upcoming mystery game "Mew-Genics" sounds like. Its official title is "Mew-Genics (Cat Chase)" by Matthias Bossi (whose work and site you can find here) and Jon Evans, both of whom will be writing and composing the planned 20-song soundtrack album for the game.
Evans and Bossi won't be the only contributors, though: Team Meat co-founder Edmund McMillen teased that we can expect announcements about special guest contributors in the lead-up to the game's release.
Here's the official bios for Bossi and Evans:
Drummer/Composer Matthias Bossi (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Skeleton Key, The Book Of Knots) and Bassist/Engineer/Producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Linda Perry) somehow simultaneously and magically moved to the same tiny fishing village in Massachusetts. When they're not making music together, they drink coffee and chop wood.

Universal Pictures and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) have team up to bring Stephen King's "Gramma" short story to the big screen. Frances O'Connor (AI) will star, while Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut) will direct from a script by Matt Greenberg (1408, Reign of Fire). The story, which is part of King's 1985 short story collection "Skeleton Key," follows two young boys who go with their single mother (O'Connor) to take care of their elderly, senile grandmother named Mercy, only to discover that she's a witch who made an evil pact with a dark force many years before. "Gramma" was previously turned into a "Twilight Zone" episode back in 1986.

Universal Pictures and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions are joining forces on the fantasy-horror tale Mercy, an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story Gramma. British actress Frances O’Connor will star in the project, to be directed by Peter Cornwell from a script by Matt Greenberg. Blum will produce with Wonderland Sound and Vision’s McG and Mary Viola. Tonight's (Oct. 25) epic episode of "Last Resort", "Skeleton Crew," is more explosive than the nuclear missiles aboard Capt. Marcus Chaplin's Andre Braugher submarine.
The Emmy-winning Braugher isn't the only one commanding the screen tonight. (Although he is so terrifying in one scene we actually shivered. True story.) In fact, Lt. Grace Shepard (Daisy Betts) actually takes the helm of the USS Colorado while he is off scaring the bejesus out of some new arrivals to the island of Sainte Marina.
As Braugher tells Zap2it, Chaplin "is enraged to be made a traitor or terrorist...at being made into an outlaw."
"They're there to negotiate, so Marcus and Sam [Scott Speedman] are preoccupied with that," Betts previews. "So Grace basically has to function on her own. There's no Xo, there's no captain -- she is essentially the captain of that episode."
"Grace really proves why she's in the position she's in," adds the Australian actress.

As All Hallow’s Eve creeps closer to us, it seems somehow fitting that there are several Stephen King adaptations crawling towards the screen. Sinister director Scott Derrickson is working up The Breathing Method and now Peter Cornwell has Frances O’Connor lined up to star in Mercy. If that title has you flipping through your collected King books wondering where it appeared, relax. The original short story is actually called Gramma. It first spooked people in the pages of a 1984 Weirdbook magazine before it was collected in the 1985 selection Skeleton Key.O’Connor will play a mother whose two young sons discover that their ill grandmother, Mercy, is a witch. Matt Greenberg, a King-scripting veteran after working on 1408, wrote the adaptation. It’s not the first time that Gramma has been on screens: it was made into an episode of the 1985 update of The Twilight Zone with a script...

Even without Matt Damon, The Bourne Legacy easily debuted in first place this weekend ahead of Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis political comedy The Campaign and box office behemoth The Dark Knight Rises. Also, after a quiet mid-week start Hope Springs saw a nice jump in attendance over the weekend. The Top 12 grossed an estimated $133 million, which is off 7 percent from the same period last year.Reboot/spin-off The Bourne Legacy debuted to $38.1 million at 3,745 locations. That's a bit lower than recent Bond franchise reboot Casino Royale ($40.8 million) and is in between The Bourne Identity ($27.1 million) and The Bourne Supremacy ($52.5 million). Legacy's debut was off 45 percent from 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum (the last entry with Damon in the lead), and that decline is in between those for recent franchise reboots X-Men: First Class (off 53 percent from The Last Stand) and The Amazing Spider-Man (down 30 percent from Spider-Man 3 over its first...

We're still pondering just how Disneyland ride The Matterhorn is going to make the transition from mini-rollercoaster to big screen event, but a writer has been tapped to bring it all full circle. So who's taking the reins? Read on!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ehren Kruger (Scream 3, Scream 4, The Ring, The Ring 2, Skeleton Key) has landed a gig to work on Disney’s untitled explorers movie project.
First-time feature director Brian Beletic is attached to helm the pic, whose first draft was written by Jason Dean Hall. Justin Springer (Tron Legacy, Prom) is producing the project.
The story centers on five young adventure seekers -- an action sports guy, travel guide, cartographer, archeologist and escape artist -- who venture into the Alps for mysterious reasons and face Yetis that guard a secret.
The project formerly was associated with the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland, but its scope has since been broadened.

Don't be fooled by Madonna's chic spectre in pearls in W.E. Female ghosts are the most terrifying spooks on film
One of the daffiest aspects of W.E., Madonna's deeply daffy film about Wallis Simpson, is the way our heroine keeps popping up as a peculiarly soignée ghost. Clad in a little black dress and pearls, she dispenses fashion tips and lifestyle aperçus to her younger namesake, who's having a bit of a breakdown that coincides with her Simpson-fixation, in 1990s Manhattan. Murmured words of spectral wisdom include: "Attractive, my dear, is a polite way of saying a woman's made the most of what she's got," and, "The most important thing is your face. The other end you just sit on."
This is perhaps the battiest but also the most diverting element in the film, and one I wish Madonna had explored at more length, if only because the...

Need another reason to pick up a copy of Dark Horse Presents #8, which goes on sale February 1st, other than the fact it contains a brand-new B.P.R.D. story, a new Skeleton Key, and the conclusion of Howard Chaykin's Marked Man among its offerings? How about its inclusion of Part 1 of Rich Johnston's The Many Murders of Miss Cranbourne?
From the mind of the infamous editor of Bleeding Cool, Rich Johnston, comes this three-part tale of gruesome gossip.
Synopsis:
Have you ever wondered how amateur detectives keep stumbling over dead bodies? Miss Cranbourne doesn’t. Because she kills them. Then finds someone else to pin the blame on.
In "The Vicar Slash’d from Side to Side," Miss Cranbourne is at odds with the local man of God and so introduces him to his maker. But in a 1940s English village held together by gossip and sharp looks,...

Voodoo and horror mix well together. You've got the awesome scene in the second Children of the Corn. And there's Wes Craven's Serpant and the Rainbow, one of the my all time favorite horror films. Chucky has even made a killing wth his voodoo-themed slasher Child's Play. Even the 2005 Skeleton Key is pretty badass. Forest Whitaker is hoping to pin some needles into your wallets with the voodoo-themed Vipaka, producing and starring in the psychological thriller alongside Anthony Mackie (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter), reports Variety. Sanaa Lathan (Contagion) also co-stars in the elevated genre pic, which follows two adversaries who go head-to-head in a game that will test each man's belief in what they're certain is the truth. Whitaker and Nina Yang are producing through his Significant Prods. banner, while French/Lebanese helmer Philippe Caland (Boxing Helena) is directing.

An early poster for the Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts thriller Dream House has arrived via Recent Movie Posters and we are either looking at another Skeleton Key type thriller (likely) or perhaps Jim Sheridan will pull an Alejandro Amenbar and deliver us something creepy a la The Others.
The poster reminds me of a similar shot in M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense and considering the rating information isn't yet filled in this may not end up being the final version, but it certainly looks like enough time was spent in Photoshop for this to be one of the final contenders.
Dream House isn't too far away with a September 30 release date on the horizon so I would suspect we will also be getting the film's first trailer quite soon.

Thor opens in the U.S. this weekend and the most positive buzz I've heard surrounding the film (which has already premiered in Europe) has not been for its muscle-bound lead actor (Chris Hemsworth), nor for either of the comely females, one scrawny (Natalie Portman), one buxom (Kat Dennings). No, the lion's share of the praise is being heaped on the film's silver-tongued, trickster villain, Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. What, you've never heard of him? You didn't watch the twee BBC mini-series "Return To Cranford: Alas, Now With Less Eileen Atkins"? Well I have it on very good authority that his is a name you're going to know soon enough. Jack Giroux at Film School Rejects has a lovely interview with Hidddleston about both Thor and his upcoming projects with Woody Allen and Steven Spielberg.
I have to say, I love a villain who smiles. Here are a few of my favorites.

The Scorecard Review Movie Awards: Best of the Decade (Almost) – Complete Results
The decade is over (and has been for a year). Now, we finally know what The Scorecard Review readers believe were the best of the best in the Tsr Movie Awards. There were 501 total voters who voted. Yes, I know it’s not technically a decade. We’ve been doing The Scorecard Review Movie Awards for eight years and decided it was time for a “Best of,” hence the “(Almost).”
If there is one thing we learned, it was The Decade of the Ledger, Heath Ledger. Ellen Page, Lord of the Rings, Meryl Streep, Avatar and Leonardo DiCaprio all had their moments as well. I will offer complete commentary on each individual category so stay tuned for that.
Look for The 9th Annual Tsr Movie Awards in February 2011.
