With a certain amount of trepidation I am finally caving in and talking about the Pilot (that’s right, no guarantees we’ll ever see it) for NBC‘s Constantine. I really want this one to happen, and I’m afraid this will jinx it, but okay, here we go.
Back in September, NBC bought the project with penalty (NBC will pay a penalty if it doesn’t air the pilot) with Daniel Cerone (The Dark Corner, Threshhold, Dexter, Charmed) and David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Da Vinci’s Demons, the Dark Knight trilogy) as writers/executive producers.
Based on the DC/Vertigo comic books, John Constantine is a snarky con-man-turned supernatural detective, which sounds absolutely excellent but also slightly reminiscent of Powers, which once again reminds me that not all pilots, even excellent comics-based pilots with great casts, see the light of day.

Some quick casting news has arrived for NBC's "Constantine" series as The Wrap is reporting that Harold Perrineau (“Lost”), Lucy Griffiths (“True Blood”), and Charles Halford (“True Detective”) have joined the graphic novel pilot.
Perrineau (pictured), who played the role of Michael Dawson on ABC's “Lost” and recently appeared in FX's “Sons of Anarchy,” has been cast as series regular Manny. The network describes the character as an authoritative figure assigned to watch over Constantine (series star Matt Ryan).
Griffiths will play the role of Liv, Constantine's partner with supernatural abilities. She most recently starred in the sixth season of HBO's “True Blood” as Nora Gainesborough. “True Detective's” Charles Halford has been cast as Chas, Constantine's oldest friend and staunch companion with possible supernatural survival skills.
Constantine is described as a working-class Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blond hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who...

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

Kristen Stewart / Snow White: Snow White and the Huntsman Snow White and the Huntsman sequel in the works and on a fast track? That’s the growing rumor. As early as July 2011, Swath (and Alice in Wonderland) producer Joe Roth said that Snow White and the Huntsman was to be the first feature in a trilogy. In early April 2012, NBC Universal honcho Ron Meyer mentioned a sequel "based on" the character of the Huntsman, played by The Avengers‘ Chris Hemsworth. A couple of weeks later, Universal reportedly approached David Koepp to write a follow-up to the fantasy adventure tale. And that was about two weeks before Snow White and the Huntsman beat forecasts when it debuted to the tune of $56.21m last weekend. Now, Universal has been "in talks" with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders to come back for a planned sequel, reports Deadline.com. A director of commercials,...

Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart, Snow White and the Huntsman Starring On the Road’s Kristen Stewart, The Avengers‘ Chris Hemsworth, Prometheus‘ Charlize Theron, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides‘ Sam Claflin, Rupert Sanders‘ Gothic adventure drama Snow White and the Huntsman is such a huge hit that Universal is already planning a sequel. Oh, but wait! That movie hasn’t opened yet. The Snow White currently on screens around the world is the one found in Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror, distributed by Relativity Media in North America. And that particular Snow White movie, which happens to be a frothy comedy, hasn’t exactly become a major blockbuster — though $133.13 million worldwide ($56.6 million in North America, and solid performances in Russia, the United Kingdom, and Brazil) is nothing to be sniffed at. Anyhow, according to Deadline.com’s Mike Fleming, Universal "is already in discussions" with David Koepp to...

it's not Tuesday but it's time for a Top Ten anyway... as this is yesterday's news already!
AMPAS used to hide their membership roster like the vote tallies but in the information age, they've opened up. Now we get to see the whole list of new invitees each year. I wonder how they keep they're membership around 6,000 given how many people they invite annual. Maybe enough people reject the offer, stop paying their dues, or pass from this mortal coil each year to balance it out?
You can read the full list of recipients at Indiewire, but as is the Film Experience tradition, we like to pinpoint the newest (potential) members whose future ballots we'd most like to see. So let's have at it.

HollywoodNews.com: Adam Sandler is gearing up for the release of his new film, “Grown Ups,” and has just been announced as one of 135 artists selected to join the Academy.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 135 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Christopher Lee isn't actually a wizard, he just plays one in the movies (and sort of looks like one in real life, now that we think of it). But still, that hasn't stopped him from diving headlong into the mystical, magickal world of Wizard Rock, with a full-blown symphonic concept album he's calling Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross.
And, yes, we know the real Charlemagne wasn't technically a wizard (just the subject of an awesome Steely Dan song and most of the Hold Steady's Separation Sunday) but Lee's album is still a prime example of bearded, bong-glazed Wizard Rock, full of trilling strings and rolling timpani drums, songs with titles like "The Iron Crown of Lombardy" and "The Bloody Verdict of Verden," and Lee's booming voice, which, much like the legendary Sword of Erdrick, is strong enough to cleave even the heartiest of steel. Not to mention, you know,...

Former Lost cast member Harold Perrineau has sailed to a co-starring role on CBS' drama pilot Demons.
The project, from CBS Paramount Network TV, centers on Gus, an ex-Jesuit priest-psychologist who performs exorcisms. Perrineau will play a priest who has known Gus since seminary and is his confessor, confidante and good friend.
For two seasons, Perrineau co-starred on Lost as single father Michael Dawson who sailed off with his son in the show's Season 2 finale.
There has been talk about Perrineau possibly returning to the Emmy-winning adventure series, but sources said the sides could not reach an agreement.
Perrineau will next be seen in the features 28 Weeks, Gardens of the Night and Your Name Here. He is repped by APA.
