A version of this story about Bryan Cranston, “Your Honor” and “Better Call Saul” first ran in the Drama Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
The last time Bryan Cranston was nominated for an Emmy for lead actor in a drama series, it was 2014, for the final season of AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” in which he starred as high school chemistry teacher turned crystal meth drug lord Walter White. He won that year (as well as three previous times) and now he’s back in contention with Showtime’s “Your Honor,” another series that explores human beings’ darker impulses. He plays Michael Desiato, an upstanding judge who falls into corruption and crime to protect his son from the mob, only to watch him die in his arms.

One of the most memorable scenes in Lee Sung Jin’s “Beef” is not of the escalating psychological warfare between Danny (Steven Yeun) and Amy (Ali Wong). It’s a subtle, wordless scene (except for lyrics) in Episode 3 where Danny is moved to tears in a church, the reasons for this display known only to him and never revealed to the audience.

Episode 3 is one of six directed by Jake Schreier, who spoke paired with Yeun as part of IndieWire’s Awards Spotlight. Director Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is now playing in select theaters in “glorious 70mm” (including St. Louis) and will open nationwide on December 31, 2015.
Of this ensemble cast, which includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Channing Tatum, the one standout is the performance by Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Leigh comments on her character’s place among the eight: “Daisy is a gutsy girl, and she’s a bit of an animal in her own way. But all of these people have their values, and they all have their soft spots.”
“Jennifer Jason Leigh is fearless,” producer Stacey Sher says. “She’ll go anywhere, she’ll try anything, she’ll push it all the way, and as a result her character is constantly surprising throughout the entire journey.”

Kurt Russell, stuck in the snow with eight strangers, uttering the line “One of them fellas is not what he says he is.” But it’s not The Thing – it’s the trailer for The Hateful Eight and it had me at “Got room for one more?” This long-awaited trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film is exactly how a trailer should be cut, showing us just a basic synopsis of the movie and who’s in it. It’s not like so many others that show us the best parts of the movie, then show what happens at the end so we really don’t need to bother seeing the film. The Hateful Eight looks to have eight unique and interesting characters and I can’t wait until Christmas!
In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape.

Director Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction opens in theaters this Friday, June 27th and it’s poised to have a mega-opening weekend.
Here’s what the early reviews are saying about the return of the colossal titans:
Variety -
“As the sine qua non of the franchise, it’s the robots — endowed here with character-rich physicality and almost human-scaled facial features — who give the film its emotional heft. Optimus Prime’s charismatic leadership of his team, as well as his unwavering compassion for the humans, again makes him the movie’s moral anchor. Drift, with his samurai getup and Watanabe’s dignified line readings, strikes a neat balance with Goodman’s cigar-chewing, wisecracking Hound. Still, the character most likely to be beloved by audiences, especially tykes, remains Bumblebee.”

Anyone who reads this site is familiar with my love of Dario Argento - even some of his later stuff. So I'm very much looking forward to another thoughtful dissection of his work. So much has already been written on the subject, but I feel like there's plenty more to talk about.

No Robert Pattinson Edward, Kristen Stewart Bella or Mackenzie Foy Renesmee, but there is a whole mob of others here in this Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 still. This image actually has been around and circulating for at least a couple of weeks, but it was a pretty poor quality (looked like a a photo of a magazine page or something of the like) image that has now been rectified with this very hi-rez picture.

Taylor Lautner, Breaking Dawn 2 Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black — not shirtless, sorry — gives you The (Were)Wolf Look in this The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 photo released earlier today. Another just-released Breaking Dawn 2 image shows Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen and Bella Swan-Cullen wearing vampire contacts while looking into the distance. In Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight, Lautner had a minor supporting role as a teenager infatuated with Bella Swan (then still a human). He became a full-fledged leading man in Chris Weitz’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon and David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, in which he and Pattinson’s vampire fight for Bella’s hand, body, love, and life. (It’s really all that.) In Breaking Dawn 2, things are different because Bella is no longer human. As a vampire, she’s out of Jacob’s reach; but then again, he seems to have lost interest.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Breaking Dawn 2 Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, both sporting what looks like golden contacts, are seen in one of the two The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 photos released earlier today. [Check out the Breaking Dawn 2 teaser poster.] The other one features Taylor Lautner sporting a black shirt but no contacts. Directed by Kinsey / Dreamgirls‘ Bill Condon from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg (based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel), Breaking Dawn 2 is the final installment of the Twilight movie series. In Breaking Dawn 2, Bella Swan-Cullen (Stewart) has become a vampire. Her husband, Edward Cullen (Pattinson), has been a vampire for a long time; something like nine decades or so. But if you’re a vampire you don’t grow old, you don’t become impotent, and that means you can still procreate. The result of all those evolutionary traits is Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy), a hybrid human-vampire baby who, like so many creatures...

Kristen Stewart as the vampire Bella Swan, Breaking Dawn Part 2 The previously announced The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 "reshoots" should actually be called "additional photography" or "pickup shots," according to Jack Morrissey, director Bill Condon's companion. (One site explains: "Condon is openly guy [sic].") In the Twilight Examiner, Amanda Bell has transcribed much of a Morrissey podcast on the upcoming Breaking Dawn 2 shoot. Among the key points discussed by Morrissey is that filming — involving Condon, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Michael Sheen (who plays one of the Volturi vampires) — should take place in Vancouver within the next two weeks and that this additional work should last about four days. Morrissey adds that the issue wasn't anything done — or not done — by Condon ("Nothing that he directed has been reshot or will be reshot…"), placing the blame squarely on the second unit crew. "The coming additional photography is stuff that was conceived,...

Condon (or someone writing for him) posted the news earlier today on the Breaking Dawn 2 Facebook page. (Please scroll down.) [Bella kissing Edward in Breaking Dawn 2.] According to online rumors, the Breaking Dawn 2 pick-up scenes will be shot April 30-May 3. If so, it'll not interfere with the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on May 16 and will quite likely feature films starring both Kristen Stewart (Walter Salles' On the Road) and Robert Pattinson (David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis). Bill Condon's announcement follows. Note that although Condon makes no mention of Taylor Lautner, that doesn't necessarily mean Lautner won't be needed for the pick-up shots.

Although Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is supposed to be the final film in the Twilight movie franchise, Lions Gate Entertainment, currently in the process of acquiring Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million, may want to stretch things out quite a bit further. Much like Warner Bros. with the last Harry Potter book — which became David Yates' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Part 2 — Summit was no slouch in when it came to milking as much as possible out of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books: though split into two parts at the movies, Breaking Dawn is one single book. [Photo: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart in Breaking Dawn 1.] As reported in the Los Angeles Times, when asked if Twilight could linger even after Breaking Dawn 2, Lions Gate chief executive Jon Feltheimer responded: "It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value. Chicago – Opening on Christmas Day is a film about a boy, his horse and war, brought to the screen by America’s most popular living director. “War Horse” is the most critic proof film ever realized. Kidding. This equine epic is Steven Spielberg’s latest, taking advantage of precise filmmaking, emotion and cinematography to deliver a decent holiday package.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
“War Horse” relies on the tugging of the heart strings, which depending on your mood will either bring out the handkerchiefs or get a nice cynical round of jokes going. But the film’s emotional state is in the right place, looking to bridge the gap between the factions in World War One, and hoping like Spielberg’s previous hero “E.T.” to bring War Horse home where he belongs. If that’s not the Holiday Spirit, then we all deserve to be visited by the three ghosts.

David Slade's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse passed $250 million also on Day 16 in mid-July 2010. Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight cumed at $192.76 million in early 2009. Now, on the positive side Breaking Dawn has been losing steam at a slower pace than New Moon, which fell below the $1m-per-day mark (inflation adjusted) on Day 20. Unless Thursday (Dec. 8) turns out to be an unusually slow day,...

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1: Bella and Edward's honeymoon in Brazil (click on the photo to enlarge it) Directed by Dreamgirls and Kinsey's Bill Condon, and starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 either has already passed or is about to pass — sometime today, at the latest — the $600 million mark worldwide. According to Box Office Mojo, Breaking Dawn had collected an estimated $344.8 million internationally as of December 4, in addition to $249.38 million in the United States and Canada as of Dec. 6 for a grand total of $594.18 million. In North America alone, Breaking Dawn added another $1.31 million on Tuesday; last weekend, the latest Twilight movie added $40.4 million internationally (vs. $15.36 million in the Us/Canada). For comparison's sake, both Chris Weitz' The Twilight Saga: New Moon, though substantially ahead of Breaking Dawn in the (currently depressed) domestic market,...

Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Breaking Dawn As reported in a previous article, Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, starring young movie icons Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, topped the North American box-office chart for the third weekend in a row after collecting an estimated $16.9 million. Breaking Dawn is now the first Twilight movie at the no. 1 spot for three weekends (consecutive or otherwise). Now, in the last hour or so, several people have sent us messages asking what that means in terms of the film's ultimate domestic box-office gross. Well, as mentioned in one my previous posts, Breaking Dawn earned more on its third weekend than any of the other Twilight Saga movies: David Slade's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse earned $13.42m in July 2010, Chris Weitz's The Twilight Saga: New Moon earned $15.42m (about $16m today*) on the first weekend in December 2009; and Catherine Hardwicke...

Edward and Bella honeynoon: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart in Breaking Dawn This may have been the slowest weekend at the domestic box office in 2011 — estimates range from $79 to $82 million — but one star continues to shine (even if steadily losing its brilliance): despite an estimated 60% drop-off rate, Bill Condon's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, topped the North American box-office chart for the third weekend in a row. Breaking Dawn has now become the very first Twilight movie at the no. 1 spot on three weekends (consecutive or otherwise). According to Box Office Mojo, Breaking Dawn earned an estimated $16.9 million, easily beating The Muppets' $11.2 million at no. 2. Even Martin Scorsese's well-received Hugo, which collected $7.62 million at no. 3, was left behind in terms of per-theater average: at 4,046 locations, Breaking Dawn averaged $4,177 per site; Hugo, despite 3D surcharges, averaged only $4,144 at 1,840. Remember, all things being equal,...
