Exclusive: Netflix’s new feature Boss Dan Lin has tapped former DreamWorks Animation and Coyote Vs. Acme producer Chris deFaria to consult for the streamer’s animation department, we hear on very good authority.
Lin and deFaria worked together on the mega success of The Lego Movie when the duo were at Warners. Essentially, what is being sorted at Netflix is how to eventize their animation movies more. The streamer, together with Annapurna, saved the Blue Sky axed Disney LGBTQ+ movie Nimona, a casualty of the Disney-Fox merger; the pic wound up getting an Oscar nomination for Animated Feature.

Racing superstar Lewis Hamilton is opening up about the time he passed on an opportunity to work with Tom Cruise that he still regrets today.
The Formula One driver revealed in a recent interview with GQ magazine that he befriended Cruise after the actor invited him to the set of his 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow. The pair continued to keep in contact — which consisted of Cruise sending Hamilton encouraging messages during races — and the racer eventually asked the actor to cast him in a hypothetical Top Gun sequel, years before Top Gun: Maverick actually came to fruition.
I said, ‘Dude, if you ever do Top Gun 2, I will even be a janitor,’” Hamilton recalled telling Cruise at the time. “’Just let me be in it.'”

As everyone knows by now, Tom Cruise is a man of many talents and one who doesn’t shy away from taking huge risks to get what he wants. For example, he trained to base jump with a wingsuit and a parachute for his role as Ethan Hunt in the latest Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning.
But on the flip side, it’s not always that the star is seen taking a deadly gamble with his films, in fact, in his 1988 film Cocktail, the star wanted to learn the art of juggling for his role.

Back in 1967, The Beatles told us, “All You Need Is Love.” Back in 2004, writer Hiroshi Sakurazaka brought the world a novel called All You Need Is Kill, which served as the basis for the 2014 Tom Cruise sci-fi adventure Edge of Tomorrow… and I could understand why the title was changed for the movie, as All You Need Is Kill never sounded quite right to me. A better version would be All You Need Is Death – and that’s the title the makers of an upcoming folk horror movie have decided to use for their film, which is set to receive a VOD and limited theatrical release on April 11th. With that release date just a couple weeks away, a trailer for All You Need Is Death has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

In the wake of his Oscar win for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy has added another role to his increasingly busy slate – the period drama Blood Runs Coal.
With the odd exception, Oscar-winning actors don’t tend to be short of work in the wake of winning the coveted gong, and the same seems true for Cillian Murphy. In fairness, the actor’s schedule was already pretty busy, but he’s added another project to his slate that will see him produce and star in another take on a non-fiction story.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy has signed up to star in Blood Runs Coal, an adaptation of the book of the same name. Universal is backing the project, which has been penned by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth who previously co-wrote Edge Of Tomorrow together. No director has been named yet.

After its premiere at South by Southwest on March 8, 2024, “Road House” began streaming on Prime Video March 21 via Amazon MGM Studios. The reimagining of the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze stars Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
The film directed by Doug Liman was written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. Reviews of the film have been mixed, but it currently holds fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 68%. The critics consensus reads, “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.” Supporting players in the movie include Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen and Jessica Williams. I was never a fan of the original 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, and a recent rewatch didn’t change that feeling. Thus, this remake of Road House had several elements in its favor: a cast led by one of my favorite actors of today, Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), as well as the current greatest Portuguese actress, Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad); a narrative open to multiple changes for the better; and a significant cultural, technological evolution in the stunts department, which carries much more weight in today’s industry.
Road House follows the basic premise of the movie it’s based on: a former UFC fighter, Dalton (Gyllenhaal), is hired by the owner of a bar to control the constant violence and damage to this popular spot in the Florida Keys. The main difference lies in the fact that instead of Dalton bringing bigger problems due to firing the son of someone dangerous,...

It is fair to say that the line between sports and films is often blurred in Tinseltown. While athletes dabble in acting, actors often try their hand at sports. As an illustration, consider Conor McGregor, the Irish mixed martial arts fighter who just made his acting debut in the latest flick, Road House, helmed by Doug Liman.
His performance received high praise from moviegoers and critics alike, with some even suggesting he could be the next “Arnold Schwarzenegger”. Regardless, he may have stolen the show in the Jake Gyllenhaal starrer film, but he is far from ready to dethrone Dave Bautista. Not to be overlooked is the fact that the latter has an equally impressive acting resumé.

Tom Cruise’s romantic relationships have always been the talk of the town having dated some prominent names including Nicole Kidman and Sofia Vergara. Tom Cruise in a still from Edge of Tomorrow
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes decided to put an end to their marriage after six years of tying the knot. Now the question was, what would happen to Suri, their daughter? Well, Katie Holmes was granted full custody of their daughter and Tom Cruise allegedly hasn’t met his daughter for years. Despite this, the actor is paying a great amount of child support for Suri Cruise but now that she’s soon going to be turning eighteen, he no longer will have to do so.

The second act of the 2024 remake of Road House climaxes with a nasty knockdown fight between UFC fighter turned bouncer Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Knox (UFC fighter turned actor Conor McGregor). Squishy sounds of smacked meat mix with a thumping rock song, like a second rhythm track every time the two ruffians punch each other. Early in the fight, the camera switches to first-person view as Knox batters his opponent before swinging around as Dalton takes his turn. It’s all bathed in yellow light, with the sickly glow cut only by neon beer signs hanging on the walls.
In short, the Road House remake is trash.
But it is wonderful trash, full of cheeseball crowd-pleasing, gnarly action, and some genuine humor. Road House had me cheering and pumping my fist in the air. Well, it would have, had I been watching it in a movie theater full of fans...

Written by Rebecca Cutter based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, The Hunting Wives tells the story of Sophie O’Neil (Snow) and her family’s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo Bank’s (Åkerman) irresistible charms – and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction and murder.
Metz plays Starr. Abby’s mother, a proud working-class woman and staunch Christian. Although she’s active at church and her daughter dates the star point guard Brad, she is not welcomed in the high-society world of the Hunting Wives.

On the movie screen, Jennifer Lopez is known for being a romantic comedy queen in films like "Maid in Manhattan," "Monster-in-Law," and "Marry Me." However, on Netflix, she appears to be pursuing a wholly different crown and going after action movie and genre glory. Sure, Lopez has made her share of genre thrillers, especially early in her career: "Money Train," "Anaconda," "U Turn," and "Out of Sight," most notably. Yet it's her turn in 2023's "The Mother" that marked her debut as a fully-fledged action star and now she's following that up with a lead performance in a big-budget sci-fi shoot 'em up, if the new trailer for Netflix's "Atlas" is any indication.
As a co-producer as well as star of "Atlas," Lopez has put together a pretty promising team to bring her next Netflix-distributed action venture to life. Alongside co-stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong, the...

Director Doug Liman has always understood the power of a leading man maximized to his fullest potential. He saw the action hero beneath Matt Damon's baby fat with "The Bourne Identity" and the untapped comedic possibilities of an unshackled Tom Cruise in "Edge of Tomorrow." Now, with "Road House," his remake of the 1989 action classic of the same name, exquisite use is made of Jake Gyllenhaal, who is ferocious and ferociously funny, allowing menace and humor to lurk beneath the actor's disconcertingly chiseled frame. Gyllenhaal is an actor with boyish good looks, but eyes capable of portraying an infinite black hole of moral degradation. His take on Dalton, a desperate ex-UFC fighter who finds himself yanked into action to defend a bar from crooks in Key West, Florida, is Mr. Rogers biding his time until he turns into the Hulk. It's a hell of a performance from one hell of an actor.

Paramount+’s spy thriller The Department is starting to fill out its ranks.
The drama series, based on the French hit Le Bureau des Legendes, has tapped Joe Wright (Atonement, 2005’s Pride & Prejudice) as director of the first two episodes and Jez and John-Henry Butterworth (Ford v. Ferrari, Edge of Tomorrow) to write all 10 installments. The series, which comes from Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, is aiming for a premiere date later this year on Paramount+ With Showtime.

At the time, George Clooney was announced as director, but he has ceded those duties to Wright. It was almost 10 years ago when Warner Bros. Pictures released Edge of Tomorrow, a sci-fi thriller from director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) that starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Edge of Tomorrow was acclaimed at the time of its release as a more intelligent than usual, character-driven and kinetic sci-fi action movie. Yet the studio, producers, and director ended up fighting over the movie’s title before it was even released, a classic Hollywood marketing conundrum that may have hurt the film’s chances.

South by Southwest is a festival like none other. Spread across the bustling streets of Downtown Austin, the convergence event truly has something for everyone.
South by Southwest, better known as SxSw, is a tech conference meets music festival meets film festival. With hundreds of films, bands, startups, and established brands all over the city, the energy is unrivaled.
This year is no different as thousands prepare to arrive at the Texas capitol this week.
I will be lucky enough to attend this year’s festival for a whole week and the film lineup is one of the strongest in years. SxSw is a great combination of established, anticipated films mixed with independent films with massive potential to be the next big thing.
In the past some of the competition films that have premiered at the festival have been Short Term 12, Peanut Butter Falcon, Tiny Furniture. Krisha, and more.

Apple TV+ has added more than 50 licensed movies included in the price of the subscription service — the streamer’s biggest collection of back-catalog studio content to date. But the third-party titles will only be available for a limited time.
Apple TV+’s lineup has mostly comprised original series, movies and specials commissioned for the platform (as well as a smattering of live MLB games). Now it has added a bouquet of older film favorites to the mix, including popular and award-winning movies like “Titanic,” “300,” “Argo,” “Black Hawk Down,” “The Bodyguard,” “Jurassic World,” “Gravity,” “Fast & Furious 6,” “Kill Bill” Volume 1 and 2, “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the original 2004 “Mean Girls” and “Zoolander.”
The movies are listed in a new section on the service labeled “Great Movies on Apple TV+” — however, the service notes, these are available for a “limited time.

Amazon Prime Video is releasing a remake of the '80s classic "Road House" this year, one that will star Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role (stepping in for the late Patrick Swayze). Director Doug Liman's new take on the film will be changing things up in several ways. For one, Gyllenhaal's version of Dalton will be an ex-UFC fighter. Whether or not he does any throat-ripping remains to be seen. But it sounds like the filmmakers really upped the ante in the action department as well. How so? By implementing, er, very fancy, high-tech pillow fights.

The move could signal a shift in strategy by Apple to finally incorporate more library titles into its catalog.
Is Apple TV+ finally getting non-original titles in its streaming library? Yes, at least temporarily, at any rate, as the streamer has added a total of 51 movies to its streaming catalog, spanning every genre and including some true blockbusters. Apple stresses that these titles will only be available for a limited time, but it could be providing a glimpse into its own future with the additions. Having long focused on high-quality originals without the studio archives or licensing library of its competitors, Apple V+ has been a somewhat different type of streamer since it launched in November 2019.

The spice must flow, and take over most theaters. Fresh on the heels of Cruise forging a “strategic partnership” with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, Warner Bros. and Legendary are in negotiations to acquire a new film from Alejandro González Iñárritu that will star Cruise, sources told IndieWire.
The untitled project marks “The Revenant” auteur’s latest collaboration with his “Birdman” co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, with Sabina Berman also sharing a screenwriting credit. Cruise is set to produce along with Legendary.
