A rare flagship indie producer left on the French market, Bruno Nahon’s Paris-based company Unité is preparing to conquer international audiences with “Rematch,” a period psychological thriller chronicling the historical battle between world chess champion Garry Kasparov, and Ibm’s supercomputer Deep Blue in 1997.
The sprawling show, directed by Yan England (“The Red Band Society”) and co-created with Nahon and André Gulluni (“Sam”), was commissioned by Arte in France and has already been sold by Federation Studios to major outlets around the world, including HBO Europe for Spain, Portugal, the Nordics, Iceland, Baltics, Central Europe, Greece and the Netherlands. Disney+ has bought first-window rights for the U.K. and will air the show in France after the Arte broadcast.
Nahon, who created Unité a decade ago, has been making bold shows and movies exploring social, religious and political aspects of societies, and has often captured the zeitgeist in the process.

Sky has unleashed the full official trailer for the limited event series, ‘Mary & George,’ starring Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore alongside Nicholas Galitzine.
is inspired by the outrageous true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover.

And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.
Prepared to stop at nothing and armed with her ruthless political steel, Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, colluded with criminals and...

Their line-up includes Blade, Torch, Pinhead, and Tunneler… and in December, they’ll be releasing 7″ scale action figures based on the puppet characters Six-Shooter and Jester. An image of Neca’s Six-Shooter and Jester action figures can be seen at the bottom of this article, and more can be found on the Neca website.
The Jester puppet has been part of the Puppet Master franchise ever since the very first movie was released back in 1989. Six-Shooter entered the picture with Puppet Master III: Toulon’s Revenge in 1991 and quickly became one of the most popular puppets in the series. Spoiler Alert: This review contains details of Game of Thrones spinoff House of The Dragon, which debuts August 21 on HBO and HBO Max.
Besides being bawdy and fire spewing, HBO’s House of the Dragon is no Game of Thrones.
That dissimilarity actually might be the saving grace for the sword and regal struggle spectacle prequel inspired by George R.R. Martin’s writing. Yet, capturing lightening in a bottle twice is quite a rare feat, even with a return to King’s Landing and a massive built-in and braying fanbase.
Underneath all the wails of hype, if ever there was a series set up to fail no matter how much it succeeds, it is House of the Dragon. The series from showrunners Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik will only be gauged by one criteria openly or not, and GoT is a standard HoD can’t meet.
So, spoiler alert,...

There’s been so much mythology surrounding “The Mandalorian’s” Baby Yoda (The Child), thanks to co-star Werner Herzog’s outspoken support of the puppet, that it’s hard to determine what’s practical or CG about its performance. The truth is, the 50-year-old, 16-inch infant companion to bounty hunter Mando (Pedro Pascal) was always intended to be a hybrid character, though the original plan was to lean more heavily on animation whenever possible.
That is, until creator Jon Favreau and the rest of the team witnessed the full extent of the puppet’s charm and capabilities early on during the shooting of Season 1. “Initially, the puppet was going to be in a supporting role, and it was going to be a CG character,” said John Rosengrant, co-founder and special effects supervisor at Legacy Effects.

From Doom to Half-Life to World of Warcraft, few platforms have been as instrumental in the evolution of gaming as the powerful PC. In the early days, it brought us grand text-based adventures and the very first examples of dungeon crawlers. By the early ’90s, we were enjoying real-time strategy titles, role-playing games, and the very first shooters. In 1999, EverQuest, while not the first game to connect players around the world, sparked the era of the Mmorpg. All of this gaming history happened on the PC and Den of Geek is here to explore it.
Our History of PC Gaming series includes in-depth features, interviews, retrospectives, fun lists, and videos covering the people, games, and innovations from the earliest days of Tennis for Two and Commodore 64 to the hero shooters, MOBAs, and battle royale games we’re enjoying today.

The six-episode crime-drama will start principal photography later this spring. Stockholm-born actress-writer-director Pernilla August will direct the six episodes of a brand-new crime-drama series entitled Blackwater, commissioned by Sweden’s pubcaster Svt. August debuted as a director in 2005, with the short Time Bomb, which was followed by her successful first feature as a writer-director, Beyond (2010), a movie that starred Noomi and Ola Rapace in the lead roles and represented Sweden at the 2012 Academy Awards. Before working on her new effort, August directed a number of episodes of the TV series The Legacy (2014-2017) and her sophomore feature, A Serious Game (2016). Blackwater is based upon Kerstin Ekman’s 1993 best-selling crime novel of the same name. In the early days, it brought us grand text-based adventures and the very first examples of dungeon crawlers. By the early '90s, we were enjoying real-time strategy titles, role-playing games, and the very first shooters. In 1999, EverQuest, while not the first game to connect players around the world, sparked the era of the Mmorpg. All of this gaming history happened on the PC and Den of Geek is here to explore it.

Netflix has renewed Danish Original drama series The Rain for a third and final season.
The internet network announced the news Wednesday on Twitter.

The Creative Death sub-sub-genre took flight in the ‘70s with The Omen (1976), as that little imp Damien (and his dad) dispatched the cast in different macabre and entertaining ways. (Variety is the spice, and all that.) The ’78 sequel continued the burgeoning tradition, leading us up to The Legacy (1978) - a film that takes its own stab at variety by marrying The Old Dark House to The Dark Underlord and delivering a fun, wicked (albeit goofy) little offspring.
Released in September in the U.K. (and the following September stateside) by Columbia-emi-Warner (and Universal in the U.S.), The Legacy brought in $11 million against its $2.5 million budget, making it a commercial if not critical success. That this British/American co-production manages to combine their unique aesthetics into something coherent is and of itself some kind of horror miracle.

You may not directly recall the name of director Richard Marquand, though in many ways he’s a notable director from the 1980s thanks to items like the pulpy Glenn Close courtroom drama Jagged Edge (1985), and a Ken Follett adaptation Eye of the Needle (1981). Oh, and he happened to helm Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in 1983. The British director died of a stroke at the age of forty nine, which explains the abrupt end of a flourishing filmography. He made the jump from documentary and television series to feature with the forgotten 1978 British horror film The Legacy, which starred notable American stars (and real life couple) Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott. Based on a story by Jimmy Sangster, a writer of many Hammer Studio films, the screenplay was also co-written by Patrick Tilley (his last credit) and Paul Wheeler (who would exclusively work in television afterwards). The...

Although best known for his work as both a writer, director and producer with Hammer Films, Jimmy Sangster actually relocated to Hollywood during the early 1970s, where he worked very successfully in both film and television. Whilst there he wrote a supernatural script set in a run- down hospital in downtown Detroit. Much to his chagrin, the script was altered to more closely resemble the Hammer movies that were, to him at least, ancient history. Although keeping the American protagonists, events were manipulated to allow the story instead to take place in an English country estate featuring a collection of stereotypical butlers, chauffeurs and curtseying maids. The film is essentially Agatha Christie meets Dennis Wheatley through the filter of Dario Argento.

The unstoppable philistine known as Death claims another Trailers From Hell patron saint.
Horror legend Jimmy Sangster has died, which should — in your exploration of genre classics (or just watching through the numerous trailers for films that feature his name) — mean something to you. If it doesn’t, Tim Lucas has an all-encompassing reminder of why it should:
After his first screenwriting credit (Joseph Losey’s A Man On The Beach, 1955), Sangster’s list of screenplay credentials form an impressive overview of Britain’s contribution to fantastic cinema over four decades:
X – The Unknown (1956), Blood Of The Vampire (1958), The Mummy (1959), The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959), The Hellfire Club (1959), Jack The Ripper (1960), The Terror Of The Tongs (1960), Taste Of Fear (aka Scream Of Fear, 1961), The Pirates Of Blood River (1961), Maniac (1963), Paranoiac (1963), Hysteria (1964), The Devil-ship Pirates (1964), The Nanny (1965, his personal favorite), the Bulldog Drummond adventure Deadlier Than The Male (1967), The Anniversary...

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.
So farewell fight fans and remember,...

The Legacy has all the makings of a typical 70s pedigree horror film: marquee stars (Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott), a competent director (Return of the Jedi’s Richard Marquand), and lavish production values. At first glance, it’s the kind of movie that looks like it might easily play on a double bill with The Omen, The Other or even The Sentinel. But, like the sprawling estate in which this film is set, looks are often deceiving and The Legacy not only becomes something incredibly difficult to recommend but, also, amazingly difficult to resist.
It beings well enough. Decorators Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott are hired for an odd gig in England: All they’re told is that they have to show up and do a job. With a fifty thousand dollar payday in their pocket (and check number ending in 666), they pack their bags and head overseas for...

Sundance Channel has acquired Peter Bogdanovich's four-hour documentary Runnin' Down a Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers along with 20 films that made their debuts at January's Sundance Film Festival.
Dream, which is set to have its world premiere Oct. 14 at the New York Film Festival, will debut on Sundance at 7 p.m. Oct. 29. It examines three decades in the history of the Grammy-winning rock band, featuring interviews as well as archival and concert footage. The docu also follows Petty's solo career and his time with the Traveling Wilburys.
"This deeply rich portrait of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers by film legend Peter Bogdanovich is a perfect fit for Sundance Channel viewers, who are devoted fans of cinema and music," said Laura Michalchyshyn, executive vp and GM, programming and creative affairs.
In addition, Sundance has acquired rights to 20 films out of the Sundance fest, including features, docus and shorts. The titles include the features Four Sheets to the Wind, The Legacy, Noise and Red Road and the docus Autism Every Day, Manda Bala and Manufactured Landscapes.
The acquisition continues the channel's annual practice of scouting the festival for new titles, which resulted in the acquisition of 12 films from the 2005 festival and 32 from last year's.
