Maya Rudolph is teaming up once again with Bridesmaids co-star Melissa McCarthy in The Happytime Murders. The comedy is set in Los Angeles where puppets and humans co-exist.
The story follows "two clashing detectives, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together to figure out who is brutally murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang, a beloved classic puppet show."
Brian Henson will direct in conjunction with Jim Henson Company’s Henson Alternative banner. The story is by Todd Berger & Dee Robertson; the script was written by Berger, Robertson, Erich & Jon Hoeber and McCarthy.
Rudolph and McCarthy were in the same cast together in 2011's comedy Bridesmaids. Jamie Fox was supposed to join the project at one point but things didn't work out with that.

Baby Driver is a fun movie that does not disappoint. Ansel Elgort stars as Baby, and he is captivating. The character is very eccentric, having been in a car accident that resulted in both his mother and father’s death, he is left with a ringing in his ears that forces him to constantly listen to music with earbuds. He develops an almost savant-like accuracy as a driver with the help of his noise-cancelling music. Doc (Kevin Spacey) is blackmailing Baby, as he was caught robbing Doc a few years earlier, by having him drive for heist after heist. Doc gives Baby only a small portion of the loot following each job, promising that his debt will soon be paid off. Unfortunately, this is simply not true. When Baby meets the love of his life one night at a diner – her name is Deborah and she is played by Lily James...

Vroom! Vroom! Ansel Elgort, the cute-as-cute-can-be lead of the cancer romance, The Fault in Our Stars, bops around Baby Driver like Saturday Night Fever’s Tony Manero, with his ear buds semi-glued in. You keep expecting a few disco balls to pop into view while the Bee Gees let loose on the soundtrack.
Sadly, no balls. No white suit. And not much of a credible plot in this frenetic crime/coming-of-age hybrid.
What we do get is a rhythmic youth delivering coffee and pizza, driving getaway cars, caring for a deaf, mute, disabled older gent, and falling in love with Debora (Lily James), a singing waitress, to the throbbing beats of Queen’s "Brighton Rock," The Champs' "Tequila," and Barry White's "Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up." Imagine Derek Hough in Pulp Fiction.
A masterwork??? Some media folks have been raving over Baby Driver weeks before its release date.

Jamie Fox is in negotiations to star in The Jim Henson Company’s upcoming film The Happytime Murders. The movie is described as a raucous R-rated comedy that will combine live-action characters with puppets.
The project is set to be directed by Brian Henson, and the “story follows puppet stars of an iconic TV show The Happytime Gang who are some of the biggest celebrities around. But off-camera, the family-friendly cast leads the kinds of lives that would make a tabloid writer blush. When the Happytime Gang stars begin to be mysteriously murdered, two mismatched detectives – one a type-a, take-no-prisoners human with a secret and the other a crass, hard-drinking puppet with a connection to one of the victims – must put aside their differences to stop the killings and catch the culprit, all the while trying to resist the temptation to murder each other.”

As Will Gluck's new film version of "Annie" opens, an adorable red-haired moppet stands in front of her class reading a plucky book report. As she finishes, her teacher rolls his eyes and calls on the next student, Annie B. With that very post-modern move, things are handed over to Quvenzhane Wallis, who approaches her first scene the way she approaches literally every single second of the film: big smile in place, bouncing rather than dancing, and sing-talking her way through songs that demand a much better singer. Harsh, perhaps, but from start to finish, "Annie" feels like a movie made by people who are deeply embarrassed to be working on a musical, and that's a problem. Wallis, who is an appealing young performer, simply doesn't have the chops for what has traditionally been one of the more demanding leads in a musical for a young performer, and Gluck,...

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
Jump starting today's mini late night roundup is Ed Sheeran, who cruised on over to "Jimmy Kimmel Live" not just to serenade us with his dulcet tones, but also to give fans a sneak peek at his performance as Little Orphan Annie in the forthcoming live production of "Annie." Spoiler alert: he's flawless. Ed also told Jimmy about the time he randomly had a sleepover at Courtney Cox's house. Oh, and the time he even more randomly ended up living at Jamie Fox's digs. Apparently he's Hollywood's resident couch surfer. Former "Breaking Bad" star, Aaron Paul, also stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and told the riveting story of his birth.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel of the comic book movie reboot that stars Andrew Garfield as the latex-clad superhero, premieres this weekend across the country.
In the sequel, Spider-Man, alter-ego of geeky high school student Peter Parker, faces a pair of dangerous villains. The one is the Green Goblin, the new and improved Harry Osbourne (Dean DeHaan); the other is Electro – the electrified, awkward Oscorp employee Max Dillon, played by Jamie Fox. While trying to eradicate New York City of the evil forces at work, Peter also struggles to maintain his relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

After beguiling Spider-Man as Gwen Stacy, Emma Stone may be romancing the king of the Jungle next. Stone’s name has been mentioned as a favorite for the part of Jane in the proposed Tarzan film.
The iconic jungle hero may be returning to the screen, despite the near-cancellation of his big-screen comeback. Director David Yates (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 & 2) has been trying to bring Edgar Rice Burroughs’ literary hero to the screen for a year. The project seemed on the verge of being green-lit earlier this year, with True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård as Tarzan and Jessica Chastain as Jane. However, the production slipped into a development crisis zone and seemed dead in the water, but now it looks like the film may actually see the light of day after all.

With another Spider-Man movie on the distant horizon I felt it was time I cleared up a few things.
This morning, as I was engaging some friends about the new pics from the set of Amazing Spider-Man 2 of Jamie Fox as Electro (I’m a fan btw!), the conversation turned toward the flaws in The Amazing Spider-Man. Yes, there are many people out there who feel like The Amazing Spider-Man was a poor representation of our favorite wall crawler. They feel like Garfield was wrong for the role and they feel like the tone was off the mark; “Spider-Man for kids,” is a phrase I’ve heard often when describing this last film.
Full disclosure, up front: Spider-Man is one of my favorite comic book characters ever, and the only Marvel character I follow religiously. I had a Spidey big wheel when I was 6, I’ve read the comics since I could read comics,...

Once there was Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, then there was Armageddon and Deep Impact, and last year we had the dueling Snow White films with Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsmen. It is the mirror movie syndrome when two films released relatively close to one another share a very similar theme or plot device. This year’s entry into that phenomenon is the case of the sparring White House invasion films with Olympus has Fallen and Roland Emmerich’s White House Down. These two films share many similar qualities, but tonally they differ a great deal. Olympus has Fallen is a rather hardnosed action thriller. White House Down on the other hand, takes things a tad less seriously. It is much more Lethal Weapon than Rambo.

The ‘White House Down’ actor showed his support for slain teenager Trayvon Martin, 17, with a T-shirt screen printed with Trayvon’s face in a hoodie. How touching.
More than a year after Trayvon Martin, 17, was tragically shot and killed by George Zimmerman 29, near his Florida neighborhood, actor Jamie Foxx, 45, showed support once again for the murdered teenager. The Django Unchained actor wore a Trayvon T-shirt to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, and sported one again at the 2013 Bet Awards on June 30.

Jamie attended the Bet Awards in a white T-shirt screen printed with an outline of Trayvon’s face in a hooded sweatshirt. Trayvon was famously wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head when he was shot and killed by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman on Feb. 26 2012.
George Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder, and has pleaded not guilty, claiming self defense.

Paul Giamatti has done many fine film performances, in a variety of genres. Now he is in talks to play his most atypical role yet…The super-villain Rhino in the sequel to the Amazing Spider-Man. If he does officially get the role, he’ll round out an already excellent cast.
Paul Giamatti seems like an unusual choice to play the Rhino in the Spider-Man sequel. The comic book villain was conceived as a big thug from the Soviet Union who wore an exo-skeleton covered in something that looked like rhino-hide, which made him nearly invulnerable, while also giving him super-strength and super-speed. If that wasn’t enough, he also had a deadly horn on top of his head, which could pierce almost anything. The character first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #41 in 1966 but then switched into being an enemy for the Incredible Hulk for a time, before he eventually became a...

When Jamie Fox posted that he had dressed as Spider-Man villain Electro on his Twitter last night, nobody seemed to pay much attention. But today when Variety revealed that the Django Unchained actor was in talks to play the character in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, that was a different story! Although thsi hasn't been offcially confirmed, and is definitely an outside the box casting choice, nobody should have any reason to doubt Variety's sources. That being said, something official from someone actually involved in the production would be nice - how about director Marc Webb? While speaking to Fandango about the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Tasm, Webb was quizzed about the casting. Here is an excerpt from their report.. “What?!” Webb replied when I asked him about the casting news. The director made it clear he was feigning ignorance, and followed up with a very political...

A 22-year-old graduate has been recruited by a farmer from Norfolk to act as a human scarecrow . Jamie Fox, who recently finished a degree in music at Bangor University, uses a ukulele, accordion and cowbell to frighten away partridges. The Daily Telegraph reports that Fox will earn £250 a week patrolling the ten-acre field, wearing a bright orange coat and playing his musical instruments. His employer William Youngs said he resorted to employing a human scarecrow after birds in his oilseed rape field were not put off by more traditional methods of scaring them off. (more)...

What in the world is going on with Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”? If you’ve seen the film’s trailers (both of them), you might think that the film was done and in the can. Not so, as it turns out, because the latest word on the film has Jonah Hill signing on to play a role in the Western. There is no clue about who Hill will be playing at this late date, just that he was once up for a role in the Western, but had to initially turn it down. Now that his schedule has opened up, he’s taken a role in the movie, though it’s not the original role he was offered. Since Hill is no longer the fat, chubby kid he once was, maybe he can be a fearsome outlaw cowboy or something. Just a thought. “Django Unchained” unchains its fury on...

“Django Unchained” star Jamie Fox wants to add President to his resume. The actor, currently blasting away fools with a six-shooter in Quentin Tarantino’s Western, is currently in talks to play the young President in James Vanderbilt’s “White House Down”, the “Die Hard in the White House” script that sold oodles of money, and has already nabbed a big-time director in Roland Emmerich. If he does sign on the dotted line, Foxx would join Channing Tatum as a Secret Service agent who ends up trapped in the White House during a paramilitary takeover. Foxx’s President, a youngish but capable Commander in Chief, ends up tagging along with Tatum’s agent as he battles to take back the people’s house. Vanderbilt’s “White House Down” script raised a lot of eyebrows when it recently sold for $3 million to Sony. In today’s economy, getting a cool $3 million...

Just a quick drive-by post for those of you who are going to go watch Ridley Scott’s Prometheus in a couple of weeks (opens June 8th). Stuart Oldham of Variety, via twitter, shared that a source told him that the Prometheus audience may get to witness a teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s latest, Django Unchained, a film that’s getting rather good buzz from the preview that was shown at Cannes over the last week (not that that’s completely surprising though Tarantino’s previous film Inglourious Basterds had a bit of a more bumpy ride through the Cannes process and build-up – though eventually kicked a lot of ass on release).

It’s Sunday, so it’s time for our new regular feature – the poster round-up, and yet again it’s another busy week for poster releases including posters for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, The Host, The Dictator and Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.
Django Unchained
Django Unchained follows Django (Jamie Fox), a freed slave, who, under the protection and care of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife (Kerry Washington) and liberating her from an evil plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).
The Host
The Host is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact.

Here's our first look at some poster art for Quntin Tarantino's new movie Django Unchained. The poster comes from the twitter feed of Sony Pictures Spanish division. I love the minimalist design, and it awesomely conveys that classic spaghetti western tone.
As a fan of Tarantino I can't wait to see what he's got in store for us with this movie. It sounds like it's going to be pretty amazing. The story follows the character Django (Jamie Fox), a freed slave, who, under the protection and care of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a hardcore bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some villains for profit, Waltz's character helps him track down his slave wife and liberate her from a villainous plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). One of the thing's I'm looking forward to most about this movie is DiCaprio playing a bad guy, I think...

With the Academy Awards just weeks away, we popped 100 bags of popcorn and spent some quality time ruining our eyes in front of the computer, tracking down the most memorable Oscar acceptance speeches of the past 25 years. From the heartfelt to the sentimental to the downright weird, there are plenty that stand out from the pack. We also took to the red carpet and asked celebs what they think makes a perfect acceptance speech. Bryan Cranston, Allyson Hannigan and a slew of hilarious celebrities-turned-awards-show-critics offered up their advice.
But some trophy recipients might learn better by example, so to help them out, we present in no particular order, the nominees for the Most Memorable Oscar Acceptance Speeches of the Past 25 Years:
1. James Cameron, Best Director – Titanic, 1998
Burned in our brains because: Cameron actually shouts “I’m the king of the world!

It seems that Hollywood is finally starting to wise up to a little fact that moviegoers have known for quite a while; Gary Oldman is simply put, a badass.
Oldman has already taken up some iconic roles with films like The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional, and Nolan’s Batman flicks to name a few. However it seems like his newest role as an M16 espionage specialist in Thomas Alfredson’s new Cold War drama, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, is generating quite a bit of awards buzz, as well as putting him in high demand for some studios.
According to Deadline one such studios, Warner Bros., is now linking Oldman to two of their upcoming 2013 releases. The first, will be alongside Helena Bonham Carter and Garrett Hedlund as the rugged Colonel Shikishima in the perhaps inescapably Americanized retelling of the classic Anime/Manga, Akira. More recently, Oldman has also signed...

Scheduling conflicts have forced Kevin Costner to bow out of Quentin Tarantino's western, but his loss has prompted something of a Death Proof reunion: Django Unchained now looks set to welcome Kurt Russell to the recently vacated role of Ace Woody.Russell played the murderous Stuntman Mike in Tarantino's muscle car exploitation slasher shocker, and will inhabit an almost equally unpleasant character if he signs on to Django. Woody is a sadistic plantation manager who relishes punishing slaves. He forms part of a villainous triumvirate with plantation owner Leonardo DiCaprio (who runs death-matches among his slaves), and Samuel L Jackson as the "head slave" loyal to DiCaprio.Meanwhile, Laura Cayouette, who played Rocket in Kill Bill Vol. 2, has joined the cast as DiCaprio's widowed sister: a "Southern belle" who co-owns the plantation. As you'll be well aware if you've been following so far, Django Unchained stars Jamie Fox as...

I'm actually kind of bummed out to tell you that Kevin Costner has had to drop out of Quentin Tarantion's Spaghetti Southern Django Unchained. I was actually really looking forward to seeing Costner in the film, this seems like the kind of role that would help his career.
Costner would have played a character named Ace Woody, a "sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the "mandingo" fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don't measure up."
The news of Costner's departure came from a tweet from Variety reporter Justin Kroll who said, "And in another interesting piece of casting news, Kevin Costner...
