‘Skate Kitchen’ Film Review: Female Skateboarders Find Freedom on Four Wheels
At the end of Bruce Beresford’s 1981 coming-of-age film “Puberty Blues,” two teenage girls who had been relegated to surfer-groupie status grab their own boards and defiantly charge into the waves. More than 30 years later, young women are still fighting for their corner of extreme sports, and “Skate Kitchen” celebrates female skateboarders who demand their right to grind and pop and kickflip whether the boys like it or not. The narrative debut of documentarian Crystal Moselle (“The Wolfpack”), “Skate Kitchen” celebrates the liberation and the sisterhood that comes with skateboarding, with a mostly refreshing take on how teen girls...

Kylie Minogue and Guy Pearce reunite in Swinging Safari – trailer

Formerly titled Flammable Children, the upcoming comedy from writer/director Stephan Elliott (The Adventures of PriscillaQueen of the Desert and Welcome to Woop Woop) reunites Minogue with her former Neighbours co-star and takes a sepia-tinted look at 1970s Australia: the sun, the surf, the swimmers ... and the swinging. Filmed on the Gold Coast, and with more than a few traces of Puberty Blues, the coming-of-age film follows what happens to three neighbouring families on a quiet suburban cul-de-sac when an extraordinary event shakes up their lives. Swinging Safari's cast includes Asher Keddie, Julian McMahon, Radha Mitchell and Jeremy Sims, and will be released on 18 January 2018

David Wenham on why he changed his mind about TV's 'Wake in Fright'

David Wenham on set of his directorial feature debut, 'Ellipsis'..

In the second part of his interview with If, David Wenham chats about his recent roles in 'Wake in Fright', 'In Like Flynn' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'...

When David Wenham was offered the role of the police sergeant Jock Crawford in the miniseries Wake in Fright he initially recoiled at the idea.

As a passionate admirer of Canadian director Ted Kotcheff.s seminal 1971 movie based on the Kenneth Cook novel he thought the idea of a remake was ridiculous.

Wenham had watched the restored movie twice, at the Sydney Film Festival and at the Chauvel cinema, rating it as a visceral experience and an incredible piece of filmmaking.

However he changed his mind after reading Stephen M. Irwin.s script for the Network Ten two-parter directed by Kriv Stenders.

Inhumans: ABC's Complete Cast Of Royal Family Is Here! We Will Get Lockjaw!

We have learned the full character cast thanks to a report from THR, including the fact that yes, Lockjaw (the teleporting dog) will be a player in the show.

The Inhumans were introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (of course his hand was in this) in 1965, but recently they have come on strong in the comics as a major adversary to the X-Men, and have been featured in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but not the same Inhumans that will be explored in the upcoming ABC TV show. Instead, this show will focus on the Royal Family of the Inhumans, who have considerably greater powers than the ones that we have seen on S.H.I.E.L.D.

A very cool thing about this show is that the first two episodes will be shot and featured in IMAX theaters over Labor Day weekend, which is a great promotional technique. Roel Reine will direct these first two hours,

Claudia Karvan on playing a 40-something with authority in 'Newton's Law'

Claudia Karvan in 'Newton's Law'..

How did you get involved in Newton.s Law?.

I think they originally wrote it for Miriam Margolyes. She was originally devised as an old, fat Jewish woman (laughs). I've never worked with them before so I don't know how I came on their radar. I was a big admirer of the film Mallboy.that Fiona [Eagger] produced a long time ago. It's one of my favourite Australian films. It really packs a punch..

I've never heard of it.

It's really worth checking out. I loved it. And then, obviously, [I.m] a big fan of SeaChange and totally appreciate the extraordinary phenomena that is Miss Fisher, and what successful producers they are. They just approached me, I read it, we had a few conversations and then it was all happening. I really wanted to play a character who was emotionally intelligent and had authority and

Little Lunch: the mockumentary series for kids – and one of Australia’s best shows

Set in a primary school playground, the cross-generational series proves how much can be done with just 15 minutes

Since becoming a parent, I’ve been amazed by how repetitive children’s television can be. After a short amount of time The Wiggles start to feel like housemates, and I’ve considered taking out a restraining order on Giggle and Hoot – they’re mostly made up of bright colours and noise designed to distract, which underestimates the intelligence of little ones. I know a show is working when it holds up on the 98th viewing, and it’s a relief to find them – not just for my own sanity, but because something that is clever enough to entertain an adult is particularly nourishing for a kid.

There’s a great tradition of Australian kids television that doesn’t dumb things down, from The Ferals to Ship to Shore and Round the Twist.
