I am so frustrated with the sci-fi shows hitting television these days. It seems that the Hollywood machine believes they can maximize viewers by mixing genres in an attempt to please everyone. Imho, this is unrealistic and rarely successful.
In short, like so many other shows, Extant suffers from multiple personality disorder. It shifts from drama to thriller to drama to action to drama to sci-fi to omg my head is spinning! Wait, did I say drama?
To be fair, it does do all of these genres well. The direction and performances are well done, and the premise is interesting.
Unfortunately, the over-the-top dramatic dominance has to be making someone at the SOAP channel feel bested.
