'Boss Baby' and 'Ghost in the Shell' Debut as 'Beauty and the Beast' Eyes Third Week at #1

5 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

After a stellar hold last weekend on the heels of a record-breaking March opening, Disney's Beauty and the Beast will need to top a pair of incoming wide releases if it's to become the second 2017 release after Split to top the weekend box office three weeks in a row. Stepping into the spotlight, the week's two new wide releases are Paramount's Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson and Fox's animated feature The Boss Baby, both of which looking to make splash over the weekend. Last weekend Disney's Beauty and the Beast dropped a mere 48.3%, resulting in the fourth largest second weekend of all-time. This weekend we're expecting a relatively similar drop for a $48.8 million three-day, which is looking like it should be enough for a third weekend atop the box office and should push the film over $400 million domestically. As for the weekend's two new releases, industry expectations project »

Exclusive: Dave Franco Says Secret Wedding to Alison Brie Was 'Really Special'

22 hours ago | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Dave Franco is continuing to keep (mostly) mum about his under-the-radar wedding to actress Alison Brie.

The Now You See Me star did spill a few subtle details to Et while promoting The Lego Ninjago Movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday, admitting that the pair absolutely aimed to keep the ceremony "low-profile."

"It was great, it was really special," Dave, 31, shared with Et. "It was intimate, and it was really fun."

Alison's reps confirmed the nuptials to Et in early March, with any other details remaining under wraps. Since announcing their engagement in 2015, the couple has remained non-committal about divulging any wedding plans.

"We're pretty lax about the whole thing," Dave told Et last June. "It'll happen when it happens."

When asked if either of his older brothers, James and Tom, would stand by his side during the ceremony, Dave confessed, "I don't know »

Why China’s Box Office May Not Save the Film Industry After All — CinemaCon 2017

27 March 2017 4:52 PM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Back in October, Dalian Wanda Group chairman Wang Jianlin had to admit that, after years of exponential growth, the China box office was slowing. The numbers proved him right: 2016’s worldwide box office of $38.6 billion rose just 1 percent, mostly because of a drop in China. While 71% of the global box office is international, it’s now North America that’s growing.

Ouch.

If those are our bragging rights, they come at a very high cost. After several years of massive, 30 percent-40 percent growth, China seemed like the answer to the nagging problem of North America’s thoroughly mature theatrical market. DVDs might be dead, theater chains aren’t growing, admissions are stagnant — but hey, China has more than 1.3 billion people! And suddenly, “Now You See Me” was a global franchise.

Now, the 2016 box office decline in China ($6.6 billion, down from $6.8 billion in 2015) may not bode well for the studios’ current »

Jay Baruchel praises Batman v Superman as “the world’s most expensive indie film”

20 March 2017 4:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Actor and comedian Jay Baruchel is currently doing interviews to promote his upcoming sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers, which is a project he directs and stars in.

During an interview with Joblo, Baruchel was put on the spot to discuss some recent films he has really enjoyed. In addition to mentioning Tom Ford’s noirish thriller Nocturnal Animals (which he described as “gorgeous and compelling”), he bravely brought up the critically destroyed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Baruchel praised the blockbuster, saying: “I’ve watched it about seven times… even when I saw the theatrical one and didn’t love it. In its weakest moment, it has more choice, style and commitment to it than the best moment in Captain America: Civil War. I can’t tell you what it’s about or who made it. Breaking Down the Numbers of the Biggest Movie Heists of All-Time

16 March 2017 1:00 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Movies about big-time heists have been around for nearly 100 years.   You’ve got classics like The Sting, Gambit and The Italian Job up on through some of the bigger films like the Ocean’s franchise, Die Hard,  Now You See me, and plenty of others.   It’s tough to pick a favorite heist movie but I’d probably go with Heat even though they technically didn’t get away with it.   Amazingly the take from the movie Heat was only $1 million  Though there are just so many good movies to choose from in this sub genre of films. Speaking of the take,
