There will be spoilers for the "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire," episode "The Path of Anger," so beware.
In "Star Wars Rebels" we were introduced to a new prototype Tie Fighter that was far superior to the standard Tie Fighter in use by the Imperial fleet. Unlike the common Tie Fighters seen across "Star Wars" media, Tie Defenders had shields and hyperdrives, and they were deadly and far less disposable than the usual fleet. Grand Admiral Thrawn spent time lobbying the Empire to allocate resources to further develop the Tie Defender program and put them in use for battlefield superiority.
Unfortunately, Grand Moff Tarkin and Director Krennic worked to funnel every credit they could into developing the Death Star, putting all of their eggs in one basket. As the crew of the Ghost found out on "Star Wars Rebels", Tie Defenders were some of the most deadly ships the...

First announced in 2023, the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s classic novel Blood Meridian is still in the works, with John Logan announced as its screenwriter.
Announced last year, the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s bracing western novel Blood Meridian: Or The Evening Redness In The West is still quietly moving ahead.
In the works at production company New Regency, the movie will be written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan, who’s produced some remarkably varied scripts across his career, ranging from Alien: Covenant to Skyfall to Gladiator.
Logan’s adapted screenplay will be directed by John Hillcoat, who has form when it comes to making films based on McCarthy’s poetic, witheringly harsh work – he previously made post-apocalyptic mood piece The Road in 2009, starring Viggo Mortensen. That film was also produced by New Regency.
“Blood Meridian has been one of my favorite novels since first reading it in 1985,” Logan said in a statement to Deadline.

Considered by many to be the magnum opus of author Cormac McCarthy – whose works include No Country for Old Men, The Road, All the Pretty Horses, and Child of God, among others – the violent Western Blood Meridian (you can pick up a copy Here) was published in 1985… and in the years since, several filmmakers have made unsuccessful attempts to bring the story to the screen. Adaptations have passed through the hands of Tommy Lee Jones, Ridley Scott, and James Franco, with Franco getting the furthest with it, shooting 25 minutes of test footage before the producer shut down the project. With unrelenting violence and a dark tone, Blood Meridian has been said to be unfilmable. But director John Hillcoat, who previously helmed the feature based on The Road (pictured below), is pushing an adaptation forward at New Regency, and Deadline reports that John Logan, who received Oscar nominations for his work on the scripts for Hugo,...

Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian” has been one of the trickiest classic novels to adapt for the screen, but it now has a three-time Oscar nominee who may finally crack it.
John Logan, the writer of “Gladiator,” “The Aviator,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Skyfall,” and the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” has been tapped to adapt “Blood Meridian” into a feature film.
Last year, New Regency announced it was developing a feature film based on the 1985 Western novel, and the studio attached John Hillcoat — who previously directed McCarthy’s “The Road” — to direct the film. Hillcoat is also directing and producing “Blood Meridian” alongside Keith Redmon for New Regency.
Cormac McCarthy is getting a posthumous executive producer credit on the film, and his son John Francis McCarthy is also serving as an EP.

John Logan — the writer behind Aviator and James Bond movie Skyfall — has been tapped to adapt Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian for New Regency.
The synopsis for the Western, known for its descriptive violence, reads: “Based on historical conflicts along the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, the story follows the journey of the Kid, a 14-year-old from Tennessee, as he navigates the brutal and harrowing landscape of this new era.”
As previously announced, John Hillcoat, who directed McCarthy adaptation The Road, will helm. Hillcoat will produce along with Keith Redmon for New Regency. McCarthy’s son, John Francis McCarthy, will serve as executive producer with McCarthy receiving a posthumous credit.
Said Morgan, “Blood Meridian has been one of my favorite novels since first reading it in 1985. It’s a majestic, beautiful and uncompromising book and I’m thrilled to be able to help bring Cormac McCarthy’s dark masterpiece to the screen.

Three time Oscar-nominated scribe John Logan is adapting National Book Award-winning author Cormac McCarthy’s novel Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West for the big screen for New Regency.
John Hillcoat, who previously adapted McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road, will direct and produce along with Keith Redmon for New Regency.
The sprawling novel is widely considered one of the greatest works of American literature. Published in 1985, Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West is an epic tale of the violence and depravity that attended America’s westward expansion which brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the Wild West. Based on historical events that took place on the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, it traces the fortunes of a 14-year-old Tennesseean who stumbles into a nightmarish world where Indians are being murdered and the market for their scalps is thriving.

Jeff Nichols is reportedly looking to adapt Cormac McCarthy’s final two novels for what may be his follow-up project to The Bikeriders.
Cormac McCarthy was a legendary American writer and his works have led to a number of films that have varied in quality. From out and out brilliance, such as The Road or No Country For Old Men to projects that deserve a second look such as Ridley Scott’s The Counselor (for which McCarthy penned the script), there’s always something to admire about the writer’s work.
One filmmaker who seems particularly engaged with McCarthy’s work is Jeff Nichols. Nichols has his first film in seven years due out soon, The Bikeriders. That film is a period drama which boasts an impressive ensemble cast that saw its release delayed due to last year’s strikes meaning that said cast couldn’t promote it.

Who are we to disagree Danielle Harris? When looking for a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, nothing in our completely mad up rules that say a movie can’t be well received at the time of release. It can win awards including one from the audiences that saw it at TIFF and the kind of go away. There are a ton of movies that are great and original films in a genre that is nearly as obsessed with sequels and movie universes as DC and Marvel are today. Stake Land (watch it Here) is an original piece of media that is one part Walking Dead, one part The Road, and all together one of the Best Horror Movies you Never Saw.

Nick Cave and his longtime collaborator Warren Ellis have teamed up to score the forthcoming Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black.
Cave and Ellis composed “about 20-30 minutes” of music for the film’s score. Additionally, Cave has contributed a new song called “Song for Amy” that will appear on the soundtrack.
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black,” said director Sam Taylor-Johnson in a statement. “Over the years I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realize the dream of working together. Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score.”
The soundtrack also includes six songs from Winehouse, as well a five songs from artists who inspired her, including Billie Holliday and The Shangri-Las. It will be released on May 17th.

There are some key differences between the Dalton of Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 cult classic Road House and the Dalton of Doug Liman’s equally boisterous remake. To start, the stoic bouncer’s first name is now Elwood instead of John. He rolls into town — the Florida Keys, not Kansas City — on a Greyhound bus instead of in a new car. This Dalton walks everywhere, wearing down the soles of his cigar brown combat boots with each mile. His swagger is enhanced by a mellow kindness — at one point, a character compares him to Mr. Rogers (with a violent edge, of course).
What hasn’t changed all that much are Dalton’s motivations and his notoriety. When we meet the infamous man, played here with compelling restraint by Jake Gyllenhaal, his face is shrouded by his black hoodie. He saunters into an underground fight club with a menacing determination. The camera trails him,...

Coming off his big Prime Video debut in Lulu Wang’s Expats, Brian Tee is joining the cast of the streamer’s action series Reacher for Season 3 as a series regular. Production is currently underway in Toronto.
Tee will portray Quinn who is described as a physically imposing and intimidating character. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army whom Reacher (Alan RItchson) investigated ten years ago when he sold military secrets to hostile nations.
Additionally, Johnny Berchtold and Roberto Montesinos have joined the cast as series regulars with Daniel David Stewart set to recur.
Berchtold plays Richard Beck, a sensitive and artistic college student who lost his mother when he was young and is the only son of businessman Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall). Five years ago, he was the victim of a traumatic kidnapping that left him mutilated.

Sam Taylor-Johnson’s upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black” may have access to the late singer’s globally recognized back catalog, but another legendary musician is lending his talents to the project.
Nick Cave, alongside his long-time collaborator Warren Ellis, is scoring the StudioCanal and Focus Features film, which sees “Industry” star Marisa Abela play Winehouse. Abela is joined by a cast including Jack O’Connell (playing Blake Fielder-Civil), Eddie Marsan (Mitch Winehouse), Juliet Cowan (Janis Winehouse) and Lesley Manville.
Variety has been given an exclusive photo taken of Cave, Ellis and Taylor-Johnson recording in the studio earlier this week.
While Winehouse’s own songs, such as “Back to Black” (which featured in the recent trailer), “Valerie” and “Rehab” will undoubtedly take center stage in the film (with most recorded and performed by Abela), Cave and Ellis are understood to have composed about 20-30 minutes of music.

The 2024 Netflix film The Kitchen seems to have taken inspiration from movies like A Bronx Tale but added a completely new flavor to it by setting itself in a dystopian world. Fatherhood is explored in a very intimate way, but there are some unsettling themes of abandonment that the film doesn’t shy away from. It is because of its fearless approach that the film becomes an important one. The viewers might be disappointed because there aren’t a lot of action scenes, something one would associate with dystopian dramas, but there are films like The Road that help movies like The Kitchen as they set a precedent for an emotionally grueling drama. The Kitchen is quite tender because of the way the characters are placed in the story and the way the conflict emerges between the father and son after the mother passes away. Kano (credited as Kane Robinson) plays Isaac,...

Comer plays a young woman whose baby arrives just as environmental crisis begins to break the society around her
Here is a post-apocalyptic drama of survival, a fiercely acted and unnerving real-time demonstration of law and order breaking down. It is all the more disturbing, credible and immediate in that, unlike other examples of genre, the narrative isn’t heading for an abyss of unknowable chaos. Rather, it envisions society’s grim normalisation of disaster and loss, an evolutionary leap downwards but one in which a kind of rebirth is not ruled out.
In contrast to the American post-apocalypse of John Hillcoat’s The Road, or the European apocalypse of Michael Haneke’s Time of the Wolf, this film is a very British world-ending – because the populace are unarmed, or mostly. Kerry Howley, a screenwriter, author and essayist, has signed with Black Bear for representation. The news comes as Howley is about to make waves at Sundance, where “Winner,” a comedic coming-of-age story that she wrote, is going to debut. The film is directed by Susanna Fogel (“Cat Person”). It stars Emilia Jones, Connie Britton and Zach Galifianakis. “Winner” will debut in Sundance’s Premieres section.

Hollywood has never really accepted that you can’t recapture lightning in a bottle. No matter how context-specific a blockbuster’s success was, you can always count on an executive to insist on making a follow-up even if that doesn’t make sense for the story. That being said, sequels aren’t always doomed to failure, and one of the most famous examples of this is James Cameron’s Terminator 2, a film that refused to do the same thing twice and became just as iconic as the original.
Naturally, Hollywood learned all of the wrong lessons from the success of T2, as most of its sequels would be repetitive cash-grabs simply reiterating on the same tired ideas of fate, time travel and robot assassins. The only real exception to this curse would be 2009’s controversial Terminator Salvation, a post-apocalyptic thriller that genuinely expands on the world of its source...

The intent of THR‘s annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Showrunners is to provide an accurate state of the TV union — a rundown of the writer-producers selling in an increasingly fraught media climate, making culturally relevant and awards-friendly shows and serving the masses at a time when consensus entertainment has all but vanished. It’s also a great opportunity to pick some brains.
Those showrunners who made the 2023 list were polled on a variety of subjects. If Suits can become a streaming hit years after ending, what other shows deserve a similar fate? What IP are they dying to get their hands on? What’s already a pressing issue for the next WGA contract negotiation with the studios? And if they found themselves with a burner social media account, what would they do with it?
Here are some of the best answers to those and more questions.

Actor Mansoor Ali Khan, amid his highly controversial comments over actress Trisha Krishnan, has penned an apology which appears rather condescending.
According to Ramesh Bala, he went to a press conference and gave a statement in Tamil to the police in which he gave a rather cryptic-worded “apology”.
The actor said: “Trisha is my co-star. Forgive me!”
“May God give me the blessing of blessing when your blessings crawl on the coconut plate in the house!! Amen.”
The actor, known for doing mainly negative roles in Tamil films, had co-starred with Trisha in ‘Leo’. The controversy erupted when Mansoor said: “When I heard that I was acting with Trisha, I thought there would be a bedroom scene in the film.

Anyone who still needs convincing that we live in a fractured world may be startled by the futuristic nightmare drama Leave the World Behind, which had its world premiere at AFI Fest. Others might find something a bit stale in its portrait of racial suspicion and environmental catastrophe. Fine performances help to bolster a problematic picture written and directed by Sam Esmail, adapted from Rumaan Alam’s best-selling novel. The film will take its bow via Netflix in December, the streamer’s second release this year (after Rustin) that counts Barack and Michelle Obama among its executive producers.
The story starts with a New York family (Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and, as their teenage children, Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans) leaving the city for a vacation in a Long Island rental home that advertised with the line “Leave the world behind.” The house and the grounds are indeed enticing, and...

After "The Last of Us" video game became one of the most acclaimed games of the past decade and was lauded as a game-changer, this year saw its live-action TV adaptation heralded as one of the best video game adaptations, ever. Both are not only fantastic horror stories but gripping dramas with a focus on characters.
The "Last of Us" franchise has become such a game-changing addition to the zombie genre that instead of spawning cheap competitors that cash in on its success, it is actually scaring the competition away. At least one big zombie movie is reportedly no longer happening, in part due to "The Last of Us." Speaking with GQ for the release of "The Killer," David Fincher addressed his long-awaited sequel to "World War Z."
"It was a little like 'The Last of Us,'" Fincher said about his ideas for the canned sequel. "I'm glad...

Gwyneth Paltrow is used to doing love scenes in films. But her A Perfect Murder co-star Viggo Mortensen took certain unexpected liberties with their love scene to put Paltrow at ease. Unfortunately for Mortensen, however, a few suspected that this love scene had a negative impact on Paltrow’s relationship with Affleck.

Mortensen and Paltrow worked together for the first time in the 1998 drama A Perfect Murder. The feature focused on an affair Paltrow was having with Mortensen’s character, which ignited rumors about their hypothetical affair in real life. Details that Mortensen spilled about their sex scene, like singing for Paltrow off script, only fueled the gossip.

Viggo Mortensen is a three-time Oscar nominated performer who has been very picky with his projects, appearing only in a handful of movies in a 30-plus year career. But how many of his titles hold up as classics? Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1958 in New York City, Mortensen made his big screen debut with a brief performance as an Amish farmer in “Witness” (1985). Supporting roles in “Carlito’s Way” (1993), “Crimson Tide” (1995), “G.I. Jane” (1997) and many others quickly followed. He achieved stardom in middle age playing the warrior Aragorn in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, released in 2001, 2002 and 2003. His first Oscar bid as Best Actor came shortly thereafter for David Cronenberg‘s thriller “Eastern Promises” (2007), followed by nominations for “Captain Fantastic” (2016) and the Best Picture-winning “Green Book” (2018).

Above: first US teaser poster for Poor Things. Design by Vasilis Marmatakis.I don’t know whether it’s because of the power of Yorgos Lanthimos, or the popularity of Emma Stone, or the sheer genius of designer Vasilis Marmatakis, or a combination of all of them, but three out of the four most liked posters on my Movie Poster of the Day Instagram over the past six months have all been posters for Lanthimos’s latest, Poor Things. The teaser above is now the most liked poster ever on my feed.Breaking up the Poor Things monopoly at number two is Polish designer Maks Bereski’s fan-art design for Ridley Scott’s yet-to-be-released Napoleon, which also went through the roof with over 4,000 likes when I posted it in June in conjunction with my article on Bereski and his favorite movie posters. Kylie Jenner is taking Paris Fashion Week by storm, and her latest look stunned in all the right ways.
The 26-year-old reality star stepped out for Schiaparelli’s spring/summer 2024 runway show wearing a custom, crystal-encrusted halter-neck gown from the French brand that looked as if it were molded to the Kylie Cosmetics founder’s body. The sequin-covered cream, Marilyn Monroe-esque dress featured a backless design, a scooped neckline leading to a keyhole-shaped cutout at the chest, along with subtle corset detailing to accent the mother of two’s figure.
The Schiaparelli gown hugged Jenner’s frame, fanning out at the bottom in a slight train. Jenner paired her gorgeous dress with dazzling earrings, a matching cream-coloured pair of the fashion house’s signature toe heels and a luminously tanned glow from Dolce Glow by Isabel Alysa.

The zombieverse was a much different place when AMC’s The Walking Dead jerked and growled to life back in 2010 at what seemed like the crest of a wave for the genre. There was still ample room to grow, with takes both serious (28 Weeks Later) and comedic (Zombieland) in the recent rearview mirror and World War Z still on the horizon. The Last of Us had not yet set the storytelling standard for the zombie apocalypse on TV. The time was right for a hit series with twitching legs,...

Ever since Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes typed that question mark after the words "The End" in 2011's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," we've all been expecting him to return for another round of sleuthing. In the years following that sequel's half a billion dollar success at the box office, we kept hearing about plans for a follow-up that never actually materialized.
In 2018, Dr. John Watson actor Jude Law revealed that the "Sherlock Holmes 3" plot was supposed to "propel the story forward," and "play up the fact that [Holmes and Watson] haven't seen each other for a long time." That made sense, since the second movie released all the way back in 2011, so there would need to be some acknowledgement of time passing between stories. But since then, even more time has passed, bringing only more delays.

Now that Taylor Sheridan has won the TV Western revival with “Yellowstone” and its universe of prequels, he’s pivoting to the Middle East. “Special Ops: Lioness” is a female-driven contemporary espionage thriller where the white hats are CIA special forces, and the black hats are Middle Eastern terrorists. Helicopters and heavy artillery have replaced horses and shotguns.
Setting aside Sheridan’s recent inexplicable Emmy nomination snubs, the multi-hyphenate can tell an engrossing story that entwines flat-out action and interpersonal drama. Here, as showrunner and sole writer, he’s created an eight-part series that recalls movies like Kathryn Bigelow’s breathless yet intimate “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Hurt Locker.” We’ve got the fog of war, and the way that warps reality when the warrior returns stateside.

Five years ago seems aeons in an era so disrupted by Covid. So it comes as a surprise to realize that the original screen “Bird Box” arrived a full 14 months or so in advance of pandemic restrictions — becoming an early Netflix pop-culture phenomenon before lockdown made that sort of thing a regular occurrence. Susanne Bier’s film of Josh Malerman’s sci-fi horror novel was intriguing and suspenseful enough, even if its emphasis on psychological drama over thrills made for a somewhat unlikely breakout hit.
Inevitably, if belatedly, there’s now a follow-up — but not an adaptation of Malerman’s own print sequel, which continued the travails of the character played by Sandra Bullock. Instead, “Bird Box Barcelona” is a “parallel story” set on another continent entirely. Written and directed by Alex and David Pastor, whose prior genre efforts “The Last Days” (2013) and “Carriers” (2009) both had similar basic premises, it...

For a writer who spent most of his career outside the limelight, the outpouring of public admiration in the wake of Cormac McCarthy’s death on June 13 at 89 testified to the power of his work. An obscure figure with a cultish following for much of his writing life, McCarthy had long been esteemed by members of the literati. In the early days of pre-Netflix Black Mirror, there was a thrill (for some of us at least) that came along with easily being able to rattle off one’s favorite episodes.
There were only six at the time so it was easy to gather them all up in your brain and spit them out in the order you preferred.
Now Netflix has stepped in to start mass producing Black Mirror‘s as fast as creator Charlie Brooker can produce them. The episode number (now at 28 with season 6) has become a bit more unwieldy so it’s finally time to put some pen to paper on this bad boy.
What follows is our official list of every Black Mirror episode from worst to best. You will disagree with it because how could you not? Just be sure to let us know how foolish we are in the comments.
