"Anyone But You" became a surprise hit when it arrived in theaters back in December 2023. In an age where everyone is used to superhero movies and the odd horror flick doing well at the box office, surely a rom-com starring two lesser-known stars whose careers are only just starting to get going wasn't going to hit? But hit, it did. "Anyone But You" passed box office milestones, making an impressive $216 million worldwide on just a $25 million budget. Oh, and it was also based on a William Shakespeare play.
It might seem strange to think that a loose adaptation of the Bard's "Much Ado About Nothing," could be so surprisingly popular, but perhaps "Anyone But You" is ushering in a new era of cool Shakespeare adaptations, á la Leonardo DiCaprio with "Romeo + Juliet" back in the mid-'90s. Either way, the film's success certainly went a long way to...

The ultra-charming and very handsome actor Glen Powell is having quite a run right now, but my dude is far from an overnight success. His first role was as "Long-fingered Boy" in Robert Rodriguez's "Spy Kids 3" more than 20 years ago, and since then, he's been steadily building his way to stardom. Small roles in "The Great Debaters," "The Dark Knight Rises," and "The Expendables 3" laid the groundwork for his star-making, charisma-filled performance in 2016's "Everybody Wants Some!!" In 2018, he helped resurrect the rom-com with the one-two punch of Netflix films "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" (a delightful and underrated gem) and the more popular "Set It Up" opposite Zoey Deutch, which launched him to Internet Boyfriend status.

Carla Gugino recently told BuzzFeed that her beloved role in Robert Rodriguez’s 2001 family action film “Spy Kids” was “physically totally impossible.” The actor was 27 years old when she filmed the movie and played Ingrid Cortes, the mother of two spies. By Gugino’s math, the character didn’t add up.
“It is so funny because I was 27,” Gugino recounted. “It was a really beautiful kind of double-edged sword because I love that movie so much. And the whole experience was incredible, and the movies continue.”
“I love Ingrid Cortes. But it was funny because I was 10 years, at least, too young for the role because I was a spy for 10 years and then somehow had children who were like 9 and 11,” she continued with a laugh. “So it was physically totally impossible.”

Expendables 4 or Expend4bles was the final nail in the coffin for the renowned Sylvester Stallone action franchise that made a name for bringing some iconic stars together on screen. The fourth and latest film in the franchise was a critical and commercial disaster. Adding more to its list of injuries, the film also gave Sylvester Stallone a Razzie for the Worst Supporting Actor.

With his latest Razzie for Expendables 4, Sylvester Stallone has made a record for most Razzie wins by an actor and an action icon. Even after being one of the greatest names in action and Hollywood, Stallone has been a recipient of a record 11 dishonoring Razzies in total. It does not look like any other action star would be able to break the record soon.

Glen Powell is the latest heartthrob of Hollywood after his hunky avatar in Top Gun: Maverick followed by the romantic comedy Anyone But You. His s*xy charm and chemistry with Sydney Sweeney was a defining factor in the film becoming a big success at the box office.
Glen Powell in Top Gun: Maverick
While female audiences are swooning over Powell at the moment, few keen-eyed fans discovered the actor’s nerdy side as a young star when he appeared in 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. Seeing the huge departure in his physical appearance, netizens found it extremely hard to believe that it was Powell in the film.

One of the most exciting movie releases of 2024 just got its first trailer. "Hit Man," the latest film by acclaimed indie director Richard Linklater (the man responsible for "School of Rock") received near-universal praise when it screened at film festivals in the fall of last year, and now audiences can finally get a taste of what the fuzz is about. Turns out, a lot of it may just be the chance to see Glen Powell dressing up in a lot of silly outfits. You know what, though? We're fully in.
"Hit Man" sees the latest collaboration between Powell and Linklater after "Everybody Wants Some!!" and "Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood," and this time they also co-wrote the script together, based on the 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth (who also wrote the article that inspired Linklater's "Bernie" as well as co-writing that screenplay...

Glen Powell is only 35 years old, but he’s been around the movie business since he was 10, with his first credit coming as a 14-year-old in “Spy Kids 3D: Game Over” as Long-Fingered Boy. That means, even though he’s only been a part of Hollywood’s A-List for the past few years, he has a much longer filmography to his name — and he’s confident in naming his favorite film experience to date. No, it’s not playing Long-Fingered Boy.
“I’m just trying to make movies that I’d want to see, and I think ‘Everybody Wants Some!!’ will be my favorite movie I’ve ever made in my whole life,” the actor told Vogue in a new interview. “There’s not going to be a more charmed, lovely experience. When that movie ended, I sobbed as I was shaving off my thin mustache.”

Who is Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone? Depending on your age, he's Rocky Balboa, John Rambo, Lieutenant Marion "Cobra" Cobretti, Lincoln Hawk, or maybe even The Toymaker in "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over." If you're a diehard film nut, he's the third person ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for writing and acting in the same year, following Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles. If you're Italian-American, he's a golden God to whom all our fathers pray. And if you're just Ken, he's the definitive measure of American masculinity. For nearly half a century, Sylvester Stallone has been a mainstay of U.S. cinema, and his genuine rags-to-riches underdog tale is one of the most inspirational and aspirational career stories in Hollywood history.
Now, Netflix is releasing a new documentary called "Sly" that chronicles Stallone's career and provides an intimate look at the Renaissance Man behind the multi-million dollar franchises.

The more things change, the more the Hollywood studios stay the same. Twenty years ago, we wrote a book, Open Wide, about a battle at the multiplex on the weekend of July 4, 2003, for the hearts, minds and dollars of the American public. In some respects, nothing has changed. The showdown that July weekend two decades ago pitted pink against black, and a sparkly self-actualized blonde heroine against a grim avatar of thermonuclear war.

Carmen, Juni, and the rest of the Cortez family are back for another butt-kicking spy adventure. In April, Netflix announced that Robert Rodriguez, the original director of the 2000s action films, signed on to write and direct an upcoming "Spy Kids" reboot movie. Skydance Media optioned the film rights to Netflix with the intention of reimagining the spy thriller for a modern audience, according to Variety.
Officially titled "Spy Kids: Armageddon," the new project will be the fifth installment in the "Spy Kids" franchise, following the original 2001 "Spy Kids" and it's three sequels: "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams," "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over," and "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World." If you've ever stared off into the distance pondering the complexities of Steve Buscemi's deeply existential quote in "Spy Kids 2," or if you're still waiting on that instant Happy Meal microwave to hit the market,...

The "Avatar" movies are responsible for some stunning world-building. The franchise's best quality is how it transports you to an alien world that feels real, to the point where you might get depressed after watching. The film has landscapes you would want to visit, flora you want to touch, animals you want to run away from after they try to kill you, and cultures that feel rich in detail. Never mind that the scripts aren't the best or the most original, because the movies are not about that, they are about experiencing something you can only experience in the theater watching the film, and about the world of Pandora.
A big part of why Pandora feels so lived-in is the VFX artistry involved, from the environments and the mind-blowing water simulations of "The Way of Water," to the varied creatures that inhabit the world, and the performance capture that bring the Na'vi to life.

For Hallmark's A Paris Proposal, Alexa PenaVega returned to the city of lights to film for the first time since she starred in Spy Kids 3.
The movie isn't filmed in its entirety in Paris, but just enough to lend it the authentic flavor necessary to bring it to life.
Alexa stars as Anna, an advertising executive who travels to Paris with her coworker Sebastian (Nicholas Bishop) to land an important account.
When the client, who owns the famed Durant Diamonds, mistakenly believes they are a happy couple, Anna and Sebastian believe they have no choice but to go along with it to make the deal.
Alexa was thrilled to return to Paris. "It's amazing. Paris is such a special place. The last time I was there, I was so much younger, and I didn't really get to appreciate it the way you do when you go back as an adult.

Sylvester Stallone is no stranger to churning out sequels having played Rocky Balboa eight times as well as headlining six Rambo movies and three Expendables, and that’s without even mentioning his appearances in follow-ups to franchises he wasn’t originally involved in like Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
One of his lesser-known endeavors though is the Escape Plan series, with a lot of people probably unaware that the 2013 original would go on to spawn two direct-to-video sequels. Despite the action icon admitting that 2018’s second installment Hades was the worst movie he’s ever been a part of, which is a damning indictment from someone with 34 Razzie nominations under their belt, he still went ahead and made third entry The Extractors the very next year.

Amazon Prime’s new releases in June 2020 is fairly lacking in original material. That’s to be expected for a streaming service that focuses on quality over quantity to begin with now going through a pandemic content crunch.
Standup special Gina Brillon: The Floor Is Lava, Joseph Gordon-Levitt film 7500, and Pete the Cat season 2 are the only originals arriving this month. And that’s fine as Amazon is about to be home to one of 2019’s most fun films. That’s right – Knives Out makes its debut on June 12. It might be awhile before we get to see the next Benoit Blanc mystery so hopefully this will tide us over.
June 1 also sees the arrival of Dirty Dancing, Kingpin, and the tragically underrated Sex Drive. It’s not the most impressive month Amazon has ever had, but at least you still get free shipping.

The Spy Kids are all grown up!
Nearly 20 years after starring in the 2001 Robert Rodriguez film, Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega came together on Monday for a special remote reunion thanks to Sabara’s wife, Meghan Trainor!
Trainor, 26, staged the virtual get-together during an Instagram Live on her account. She and her husband had just rewatched the original movie — one of four Spy Kids films Sabara and PenaVega starred in together — and were answering questions for about 40 minutes before PenaVega appeared as a surprise special guest.
Buzzfeed’s Jen Abidor captured the reunion, sharing video of it on Twitter.

Robert Rodriguez has come a long way from his micro-budget breakout feature — a landmark of American independent cinema — in terms of scope and technology, but his interest in genre storytelling and satirical sensibilities have prevailed regardless of the resources at his disposal. The Mexican-American director has dabbled in ultra-violent homages to B-movies, family-friendly adventures, and graphic novel adaptations, as well as their respective and numerous sequels. Results vary in success, but his movie-loving imprint is always indelible. Are his films better when working with untested material and less financial certainty? A look at his filmography might reveal the answer:
18. “Four Rooms” (1995)
In an atrocious performance as a neurotic bellhop, Tim Roth binds together the quartet of farcical hotel-set short stories that form this ill-conceived anthology. Rodriguez’s segment, “The Misbehavers,” sees unsupervised minors getting their chaperone in trouble. It’s not utterly insufferable, as it comes across like an R-rated...

With Robert Rodriguez behind the camera, at least.
Everyone hates remakes. As film-critic people, we are obligated to hate remakes and reboots ever more. Remember Ben-Hur with Morgan Freeman? Remember Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes (2001)? But I’m can’t help but get excited about the remake of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York (1981) that 20th Century Fox is starting to get the ball actually rolling on. For one, Carpenter remains on hand as executive producer, which kind of makes the director and now-prolific rock star look like a father watching kid’s play with his old toys. Carpenter hasn’t done anything, movie-wise, in almost decade so it’s nice to see that he’ll be somewhere behind a camera sometime soon. Last year, he announced that he’d be also be on hand to help helm currently-hip Blumhouse Production’s first take on the ninth Halloween movie. So...

Maybe you knew a guy like Finnegan in high school or college: smart, charming, funny and irritatingly good at everything from nabbing pop flys on the baseball diamond to picking up young women at a night club. He's a jock, for sure, but not the kind of bro that turned house parties into an instant toxic dump of Xy-chromosome douchery. He could get away with faux-worldly affectations like a pipe or quoting Kerouac at keggers. Even among alpha males, this guy was admired as a cut above the rest. If...

Peter Marquardt, who played the white-suited drug lord Moco in Robert Rodriguez's 1992 classic El Mariachi and its first sequel, has died, a funeral home in Austin confirmed Sunday. He was 50. Marquardt died July 19, a spokeswoman at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park said. No cause of death was immediately available. In addition to showing up in flashback in Desperado (1995), the middle film in Rodriguez's stylishly violent "Mexico Trilogy," Marquardt appeared in the writer-director's 2003 film Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003) and in the 2011 film The Shadow People.

It's finally happening. Twenty years after people stopped asking for it, the first movie headlined by both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone arrives in theaters today. A decade ago, seeing both of their names on the same theater marquee seemed like an impossible dream. Ah-nuld was about to become the governor of California. Stallone was about to win a Razzie for Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. One was moving away from acting, while the other was fading into obscurity. But like Rocky Balboa and the Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Series 800, both actors refused to go away for good. Sure, in Escape Plan, Arnie and Sly look like melting wax figures of their formerly sculpted selves, but make no mistake: This is a momentous day in Hollywood history. To see what it took to get here, Vulture put together a timeline tracking the cantankerous, spiteful, jokey, and now cuddly relationship between Hollywood's...

What a face! The adorable (and beautiful) Selena Gomez gained wide fame on the hit Disney show "Wizards of Waverly Place," but has grown into a bonafide movie star and recording artist. Oh yeah, she has the most famous boyfriend in the world -- some kid named Justin Bieber. To help us celebrate the young (and rising) star’s 20th birthday, our friends at Snakkle.com take a look back at Selena’s rise to fame, starting from her earliest pics. There is cute, and there is made-for-fame cute. Selena is the latter, showing an impish grin in a family pic. Though she has success today, she didn’t have an easy early childhood. Her mom had her at age 16 and they “lived paycheck to paycheck” using quarters for gas. Things turned around for Selena after she was cast on "Barney and Friends."Click to see all the pre-fame photos of Selena Gomez at Snakkle.

It’s been almost a decade since Robert Rodriquez seemed to conclude his Spy Kids trilogy with Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, with the stories of Juni and Carmen Cortez (Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega) reaching their conclusion in a star-studded adventure presented in crude anaglyphic 3-D – pre-dating the current craze. Yet following the recent Avatar-led 3D boom, the series has returned for a fourth time, the result being Spy Kids: All the Time in the World - marketed as the first “4D” film, with scratch and sniff cards (dubbed “aroma-scope”) providing the fourth dimension.
However the fourth dimension is not smell at all but time – and that is what the film is all about: how little time we have, how precious it is and what we should really do with it.
With the old spy kids all grown up it’s time for Rodriquez to introduce a new pre-teen crime-fighting double-act,...

Studio: The Weinstein Company/Anchor Bay Home Entertainment
The fourth movie in Robert Rodriguez’s (Machete) action franchise, Spy Kids: All the Time In the World didn’t wow fans at the box office. The family film grossed only $36 million, a far cry from the $111.8 million Spy Kids 3: Game Over earned in theaters.
But Spy Kids 4 has plenty of pedigree. Written and directed by Rodriguez, the movie stars Jessica Alba (Little Fockers) as a retired secret agent who’s called back to stop the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven, TV’s Entourage). But Alba also has to deal with a baby and her two intelligent twin step-children (Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook). They get help, of course, from the two former spy kids (Alexa Vega of From Prada to Nada and Daryl Sabara, Machete), as well as their dog Argonaut (Ricky Gervais,...

It’s hard to believe it’s been eight years since the last Spy Kids adventure, 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. In that respect, director Robert Rodriguez is a victim of his success. Between subsequent Hollywood attempts to create a new kiddie super-spy franchise (see: Agent Cody Banks) and Spy Kids-style kids’ films from Rodriguez like The Adventures Of Shark Boy And Lavagirl and Shorts, pint-sized special agents have been only slightly less ubiquitous on the big screen than their adult counterparts. How are we supposed to miss the Spy Kids franchise when it feels like it ...

There's a bad smell emanating from Robert Rodriguez's return to a moribund franchise – and it's not just the Aroma-scope
It looked so final. In 2003 Robert Rodriguez appeared to call time on his Spy Kids franchise with the definitively titled Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over – credibility intact after a trio of genuinely funny, non-icky children's movies. Now he's back with a fourth, and sadly it's all fart jokes and smart-alec preteens – the stuff that can make taking kids to the pictures a chore. Jessica Alba stars as a retired spook recalled to the service with her baby and stepkids in tow. Ricky Gervais is particularly irritating as the voice of a robot dog, and the whole thing really is miserably unfunny. Presumably as a distraction (and borrowing from the William Castle school of gimmickry) it's presented in Aroma-scope. So, along with 3D specs, audiences will be given scratch'n'sniff cards with...

Spy Kids 4-d director Robert Rodriguez raised eyebrows when he announced his plans to borrow the inspiration of John Waters and his 1981 comedy Polyster with its Odorama scratch and sniff cards. After reintroducing the 3D format in 2003 with Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter he wanted to make the fourth installment in the family film franchise as interactive as possible. Adding AromaScope and allowing kids in the theaters to smell what the characters smell felt like the perfect update. “4D was because we really pushed the envelope with 3D back like eight years ago and reintroduced 3D to audiences,” Rodriguez said.

HollywoodNews.com: A close friend of mine put this up, so thank goodness I actually liked it… It mashes a Tron: Legacy trailer, fashioned off the first terrific teaser and uses Spy Kids 3: Game Over footage. Aside from a bit of awkward George Clooney as Bruce Boxleitner dubbing, it’s pretty successful. More importantly, as someone who really hated Tron: Legacy, this made me laugh my ass off.
Considering that Rodriguez’s 2003 sequel cost just $39 million, it’s almost offensive how much more exciting, colorful and imaginative the film was than the $200 million would-be franchise reboot that was positioned as ‘the next big thing’. Spy Kids 3D has some issues (too little of our adult stars for one), but it’s a stunningly exciting bit of family-friendly action filmmaking and it’s ahead-of-its-time 3D work still holds up, even if it is the last of the old-fashioned red-and-blue technique.

The best thing on the board this week isn't one of the top featured titles, instead it's The Godfather and The Godfather Part II in a Two-Pack Blu-ray release for only $19.99. It's in the "Even More" section following the first two titles or you can click here and just buy it now. Unless you own them already... why wouldn't you? That's a solid deal and you don't even have to justify buying the trilogy, which is comparatively priced at $48.89. Is The Godfather Part III really worth $28.90? I don't think so.
Rio I look at the 72% RottenTomatoes rating for this film and am just baffled. Rio is a half-rate Finding Nemo meets Madagascar (the latter of which I truly dislike) and when it does attempt to be something special it comes up lacking. You can read my full theatrical review right here,...

Chicago – Before you spend your hard-earned cash taking the entire family to see “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World,” you might as well catch up with the original “trilogy,” the very-popular series of films that most of us assumed were the end of this mediocre franchise. Don’t get me wrong — the first “Spy Kids” is actually a very fun movie and totally worth owning for Blu-ray buyers with kids of the right age but the two sequels are mediocre and annoying, respectively. Still, kids like to have complete collections and all of the films are hitting Blu-ray this week extras-packed HD editions with digital copies. Now you can take these precocious mini-Bonds anywhere.

If you had to sit through Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, there's a good chance you will be forced to see the fourth installment of the Spy Kids franchise when it premieres Aug. 19. Unfortunately for you, Sylvester Stallone will not be reprising his role as the unintentionally hilarious villain toymaker, and even more unfortunately, not even Jessica Alba, Joel McHale, Ricky Gervais and the movie's Aromascope feature will be able to save the latest Spy Kids movie All the Time in the World from kid-approved ridiculousness. At least, that's what the latest trailer makes it seem like.

This is something that I’m pretty sure we won’t get to see in the UK but if you’re in the Us, you should definitely give it a go!
Dimension Films have just sent over new information along with five new posters from their movie, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4d with ‘Aromascope’.
What the heck is that I hear you cry?! Well, it would appear to be smellovision! I’ll let the official press release do the talking below the images but essentially it’s a new way to watch a movie where the smells from the film come out into the theatre! Nuts eh!
Spy Kids: All the Time in the World is directed by Robert Rodriguez and stars Jessica Alba, Joel McHale , Jeremy Piven, Ricky Gervais, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Rowan Blanchard, Mason Cook, Danny Trejo, Antonio Banderas and is...

Well, just over a year after Avatar encouraged the Hollywood machine to overhype 3-D movies to the point where the fad is already fading fast, the hunt is on for the next great thing. Dimension Films thinks they have the solution, announcing that this summer’s fourth installment of the Spy Kids franchise will introduce the fourth dimension with Aromascope.
Of course, adding smells to movie (as opposed to movies that just smell) is nothing new, dating back to 1906 when canny filmmakers scented cotton wool and placed them in front of ventilators. Much as is happening now, after 3-D faded in the 1950s, people sought new gimmicks ot keep people away from the television and flocking to the theater. Italian director Carlo Lizzani called his process “AromaRama” and used it to screen Behind the Great Wall, a travelogue through China.
Hans Laube created Smell-o-Vision used in 1960’s Scent of Mystery.
