Bill Maher decided to just absolutely go for it — it being defending Woody Allen to the hilt and calling Dylan Farrow’s accusations that the filmmaker sexually abused her when she was seven “very improbable.”
Maher delivered his full-throated defense during an interview with Katie Couric on his Club Random podcast. The conversation had turned to that specter of “cancel culture,” and Couric mentioned an article about the challenges of separating the art from the artist with regard to Allen and his new movie, Coup de Chance (a French film...

In 2021, Eva Hamilton – whose acting credits include roles in Death Kiss and the upcoming Mutilator 2 – co-founded a production company called The Mooncats, with Stacey Nelkin of Halloween III: Season of the Witch on board as a creative executive. The first project to come from The Mooncats is the short horror film The Shed, and the company reports that they have signed a non-exclusive distribution deal with Cinedigm! As part of this deal, The Shed will be featured in the next season of Bloody Bites, a collection of horror shorts that are released through the Screambox streaming service.
Described as “a grounded, anchored and suspenseful tribute to the 35mm Horror Films of the late 1970s and early 1980s”, The Shed stars Hamilton and Nelkin. The story of the 22 minute short follows Whitney, a struggling escort, as she mitigates the emotional and financial toll of Adult Service work. After seeing an...

She last graced the screens in 2002's "Manna from Heaven" as Detective Dubrinski. Now, a little over 20 years later, renowned scream queen Shelley Duvall has re-entered the chat in Scott Goldberg's "The Forest Hills," set to release this month. This feature film is a take on Goldberg's 2007 short film of the same name, but that appears to be the only similarity as of right now. The 2007 short, alternately titled "Danielle's Revenge," takes place in Kentucky and is centered around two horror website admins in search of an urban legend.
The highly-anticipated 2023 version is set in the serenity of New York's Catskill region, where our protagonist Rico (Chiko Mendez) is recovering from a head injury, with Shelley Duvall playing the role of his mother. The Shining‘s Shelley Duvall is making her return to acting after a twenty year hiatus in the upcoming creature feature The Forest Hills – and Michael and Jessica Kolence of the YouTube channel Grimm Life Collective happen to be producers on that movie, which opened the door to them getting the chance to spend the day with Duvall. As part of that day, they conducted an interview with Duvall, and the video of that interview can be seen at the bottom of this article. It’s a very nice, sweet interview, as the Kolences express a lot of love for Duvall’s work as they discuss projects like Popeye, Faerie Tale Theatre, and of course, The Shining.

Those posters can be seen at the bottom of this article.

‘Tis the season to cover the Halloween film franchise heavily, and we have been doing that here on JoBlo and Arrow in the Head this month. Not only have we been running articles and videos about the new film, Halloween Ends, but we’ve also looked into the making of Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, had a discussion about Halloween 5, deemed that sequel to be Awfully Good, looked at outlines for an alternative version of Halloween 5 and an unmade Halloween / Hellraiser crossover, and covered Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers with a Black Sheep video. Now it’s time for another episode in the Black Sheep video series, and this time we’re looking back at the biggest oddball of the Halloween franchise. The sequel that drifts away from the story of Michael Myers. It’s 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch (watch it Here), and you can...

Basically obligated to make another Halloween sequel but hoping to leave Michael Myers behind, producers John Carpenter and Debra Hill decided to try to turn the franchise into an anthology series, where each film would tell a different story set on Halloween. Nigel Kneale was hired to write the initial script for what became Halloween III: Season of the Witch (watch it Here), and Carpenter and Hill’s pal Tommy Lee Wallace was hired to direct the film. After watching his movie get rejected by viewers when it was released in 1982 and then gain cult classic status over the decades, Wallace has taken it upon himself to write a tell-all book about the production of his Halloween sequel. The book is titled Halloween 3: Where the Hell is Michael Myers? – The Definitive History of Horror’s Most Misunderstood Film, and is going to be available from Bear Manor Media this November.

Spoilers for the "Halloween" franchise, including "Halloween Ends," follow.
"Halloween Ends," the latest (and possibly last?) entry in the "Halloween" franchise, goes to unexpected places. It takes big swings, introduces new characters, and unfolds in a fairly unpredictable manner. Some have taken issue with such drastic changes, but here's the thing: big, weird swings are nothing new for the "Halloween" series. Indeed, part of what makes the "Halloween" franchise so memorable is its flexibility — Michael Myers' never-ending murder quest has been shaped and reshaped in different ways through a score of films.
And that's part of the fun. If you're a fan who only wants these films to play the hits — The Shape stalking teens through Haddonfield — there are multiple movies that offer that. But there's something to be said for the out-there, unconventional, big-swing "Halloween" movies. Movies that take that familiar formula and smash it to bites, asking if...

In the modern era of movie making, where the franchise is king, sequels haven’t just become a byproduct of box office success, they’ve become an inevitability.
Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the world of horror. Deliver 90 minutes plus of scares to large swathes of the cinema-going public and the chances are an order for seconds will be up before the original movie has even left multiplexes.
Blame it on market forces and the fact movie-making is fundamentally a money-making enterprise, but the results have proven gruesome for fans, in every sense of the word.
While critically-lauded sequels like The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back were the result of careful planning and expert execution, horror sequels have, by and large, been about studios striking while the iron is hot.
The result is a series of largely repetitive follow-ups that crank up the gore to...

"Halloween" as we know it comes to a close when "Halloween Ends" hits theaters and Peacock on October 14. Over the last 44 years, the Michael Myers saga has bestowed fans with plenty of tricks and treats and numerous characters we've come to cherish. What started as a low-budget indie film helmed by John Carpenter, Debra Hill, and a scrappy team of actors and crew ignited a slasher phenomenon.
After 14 films, including Rob Zombie's 2007 remake and its sequel, the most well-known horror franchise is finally burying the Boogeyman — at least according to the original mastermind, John Carpenter. Although, Carpenter has said recently he wouldn't be surprised if the franchise carried on. "I guarantee you if 'Halloween Ends' makes a lot of money, guess what? Just guess what," he told a crowd at Pennsylvania's Steel City Convention.
We're celebrating the end of an era with a ranking of the franchise's 12 best characters.

Halloween Kills has freed itself from the burning basement of pandemic delays to tease the further rebooted rampages of masked maniac Michael Myers. While the sequel’s war waged against the killer by Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Strode—joined by her daughter and granddaughter—is its driving force, the trailer notably showcases masks grotesquely familiar to those who saw divergent 1982 sequel Halloween III: Season of the Witch. However, an odd meta moment from that film makes those masks more than mere nostalgia.
Michael Myers isn’t exactly known for indulgently ostentatious displays of his victims, and typically kills with silent efficiency before moving on to find further opportunities. However, the trailer for director David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills has the archetypal slasher in unique form, since we are shown a trio of his latest victims carefully displayed on a playground merry-go-round, each adorned with macabre masks of a skull,...

With Halloween nearly two weeks away now, we have another great new batch of horror and sci-fi Blu-rays and DVDs coming out this week that genre fans are undoubtedly going to want to add to their home media collections, as they are not only perfect to enjoy for the remainder of October, but pretty much any time of year. The two biggest highlights for me personally are Scream Factory’s absolutely stunning Steelbook editions of Halloween II (1981) and Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Kino Lorber has also put together a brilliant Blu-ray presentation of Trilogy of Terror as well.

It’s no secret that the death of Michael Myers at the end of 1981’s Halloween II was meant to be permanent, allowing the Halloween franchise to spread its wings, leaving behind its iconic masked killer to head out into new territory and become an anthology series that could tell all sorts of new tales wrapped up in the spirit of the season. For John Carpenter and Debra Hill, the Myers story was done, and thus Halloween III: Season of the Witch was born, hitting theaters just a year after Halloween II with the two series creators stepping back purely into producer roles so that Tommy Lee Wallace – a frequent Carpenter collaborator at the time – could take on writing and directing duties.

No matter how undeniably great a film Halloween was, by the middle of Halloween II some of us - seven or eight of us anyway - were already pretty bored with the idea of watching Michael Myers carving up even more teens. That’s why for that small handful, Halloween III: Season Of The Witch - no matter how different and unexpected and strange it was - came as a blessed relief.

There's straight-to-video shame, then there's straight to TV shame. The following small screen follow-ups, then, are the most shameful of the lot.
Please note, however: all of the following first aired on the small screen. They may have ended up on DVD later, but they're telly specials through and through...
1. Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist (2012)
Original film: Home Alone (1990)
Returning cast members: None
Stars: Christian Martyn, Jodelle Ferland, Malcolm McDowell
You'll remember the first two, and might have a dim recollection of the third - new kid, new goons - and the fourth will, hopefully, mean nothing to you (old kid, new actor playing kid, old goons, new actors playing goons, shot in South Africa).
The fifth, however, is the biggest stinker of the lot, a schmaltzy Christmas edition with a new kid, new family and new goons. Also, Malcolm McDowell - of Clockwork Orange fame - is in it,...

In just a few days, Flashback Weekend Horror Convention will be celebrating Halloween in August with their Michael Myers-related revelry (and more), and we now have a look at the final schedule for this weekend’s convention, which runs at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare from Friday, August 7th through Sunday, August 9th.
Flashback Weekend has been a longstanding tradition for me, as both a fan and as one of the co-hosts, and this year looks to be yet another incredible time for horror lovers, featuring tons of great panels, movie screenings, events, and legendary composer Alan Howarth will even be performing a special concert for attendees on Friday night.
Take a look at Flashback’s full schedule below and be sure to say hi if you happen to see me during all the festivities over the course of the weekend. For ticket information or any further details,...

Everyone knows Woody Allen. At least, everyone thinks they know Woody Allen. His plumage is easily identifiable: horn-rimmed glasses, baggy suit, wispy hair, kvetching demeanor, ironic sense of humor, acute fear of death. As is his habitat: New York City, though recently he has flown as far afield as London, Barcelona, and Paris. His likes are well known: Bergman, Dostoevsky, New Orleans jazz. So too his dislikes: spiders, cars, nature, Wagner records, the entire city of Los Angeles. Whether or not these traits represent the true Allen, who’s to say? It is impossible to tell, with Allen, where cinema ends and life begins, an obfuscation he readily encourages. In the late nineteen-seventies, disillusioned with the comedic success he’d found making such films as Sleeper (1973), Love and Death (1975), and Annie Hall (1977), he turned for darker territory with Stardust Memories (1980), a film in which, none too surprisingly, he plays a...

Welcome to a Halloween special gues column of A Brew To A Kill, hosted by myself, Christopher Melkus, in collaboration with Jeremy. Let me just give a heart-felt thank you to Jeremy for letting me take over his beloved column this season. Originally this was intended as a collaborative piece but things fell through and what you’re getting is my discussion of the merits of beer and horror movies. Don’t be too disappointed.
Halloween means a lot to me and I’d imagine it means a lot to the other writers of Destroy The Brain. Halloween means more than just costumes and jack o’ lanterns to us. It means horror movies, mostly. The holy grail of Halloween horror movies is, of course, Halloween and, perhaps less so, its sequels. There’s always discussion around this time of year as to whether those sequels are worth a watch. Obviously,...

So the big question everyone has been wondering since the announcement of the next Halloween film was whether or not it would continue on in the universe set up by Rob Zombie. Recently Collider caught up with Malek Akkad at the Saturn Awards, who shed some light on the subject.
“I can’t talk about it too much right now," says Akkad. "It will definitely keep elements and bring in new elements. But I really want to bring it back to kind of like, the classic – because the last one got a little dark – I want to bring it back to the classic Friday night horror film that people will really like.”
When asked about the ill-fated Halloween 3D, which was announced a couple of years back...
"Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier did a script. The next day after the last one came out, we were back in production for Halloween 3D.
