The Sopranos series finale is one of the most heavily-scrutinized bits of media ever produced. When Tony Soprano’s story abruptly cut to black mid-“Don’t Stop Believin'” viewers had no choice but to analyze what they just saw.
Did the Members Only jacket guy shoot Tony? Did he choke on a Holsten’s onion ring? Was this all a dream? Though creator David Chase has obliquely discussed the true nature of the final scene over the years, we’ll never know what actually happened by the finale’s own design. And that’s why people continue to watch it, consider it, and debate it even to this day.
And yet, even with all the ink already spilled trying to dissect The Sopranos finale, there’s one fascinating detail that everyone missed … everyone but one person at least. In a 2015 interview with fellow actor Alan Cumming for this Remember That Time series,...

Updated June 28: Max says the rollout of the updated credits will begin rolling out the week of June 28.
Previous: Max has responded to the controversy with the following statement: “We agree that the talent behind the content on Max deserve their work to be properly recognized. We will correct the credits, which were altered due to an oversight in the technical transition from HBO Max to Max and we apologize for this mistake.”
The decision to fix the credits comes as the writers and directors guild took a hard line against the Max grouping:
“For almost 90 years, the Directors Guild has fought fiercely to protect the credit and recognition deserved by Directors for the work they create. Warner Bros. "The Sopranos" was always a little controversial, and that controversy made things difficult for Ilene Landress, a producer and production manager for the show. Talking to Michael Imperioli (who played Christopher) and Steve Schirripa (who played Bobby) for their book "Woke Up This Morning: The Definitive Oral History of the Sopranos," Landress talked about the first time they had trouble securing a filming location for a scene.
The scene in question was one of the show's many, many funeral scenes, this one taking place in the middle of the penultimate episode of the first season, "Isabella." It was originally filmed in an Italian funeral home in Little Italy. They didn't get to finish filming the scene in that funeral home, however, because they were thrown out of the place halfway through. Why? Well, it might've had something to do with what Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) said in the middle of the funeral.

Production will begin on Part 2 of the first season of HBO’s “The Nevers” on Tuesday in the U.K., TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Season 1A of the Joss Whedon-created sci-fi series, which stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, was shot last year, with a pandemic-forced shutdown hitting after Episode 6 was completed. New showrunner Philippa Goslett, who took over for Whedon in January following his exit from the show last fall, mapped out the back half of the first season of “The Nevers” with her writers’ room while Part 1 was premiering on HBO this spring.
Donnelly, Skelly and the rest of “The Nevers” cast are all returning for Part 2, which consists of six episodes that will pick up where the final episode of Part 1 left off when it aired on May 16. (Need a refresher? Head over here to find TheWrap’s interview with Donnelly and Skelly about the finale.

HBO released the trailer for its Joss Whedon-created drama series “The Nevers” on Tuesday, featuring stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly as the leaders of a group of “touched” people in Victorian England who are feared by those without their abnormal gifts.
In the video, which you can view above, the mysterious Amalia True (Donnelly) and Penance Adair (Skelly) band together to protect their fellow supernatural people from those threatened by them. This includes the local authorities, who say they want “the wicked punished and the good protected” — but have a skewed idea of who is who.

Philippa Goslett, the British filmmaker behind features Mary Magdalene and How To Talk To Girls At Parties, has taken over showrunning duties for HBO sci-fi drama The Nevers.
She replaces Joss Whedon, who exited the series in November, after he said that the physical challenges of making such a “huge” show was more than he could handle “without the work beginning to suffer”.
It marks Goslett’s first major television gig, having previously developed projects for FX, the BBC and Channel 4. Other film credits include Robert Pattinson-fronted Little Ashes.
She will also exec produce alongside Jane Espenson, Doug Petrie, Ilene S. Landress, Bernadette Caulfield. Whedon remains credited as creator and exec producer.

There is an art to making comedy about irritating, self-involved, or even just flat-out terrible people. Sharp writing can make such characters wickedly funny, spitting jokes like acid that sting as hard as they land (see: “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”); it can peel back their defensive spiky layers to find surprising depth and tenderness hiding just underneath (see: “You’re the Worst”). But no matter what the approach, there has to be some dynamism in order to keep the story afloat, some glancing indication that the comedy’s got a little more to it than just showing off the depraved depths to which its characters could sink.
“Camping,” apparently, missed this memo.
The new HBO series — from “Girls” creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, based on a series by British comedian Julia Davis — strands a group of deeply irritating people out in the woods together for eight episodes worth of misery.

If indeed Girls does end after six seasons, Lena Dunham already has her next move figured out: Variety reports that HBO has ordered a new half-hour pilot from Dunham about second-wave feminism in the 1960s. Max will be a comedy set in the Mad Men era (Mad Max?), except instead of the misogynistic advertising world, its undervalued Peggy-type will be a writer who hopes to rise in the ranks of the misogynistic magazine world while also "stumbling her way into the women’s movement," as one does. Lisa Joyce (Billy & Billie) will star and Dunham along with her Girls cohort — Murray Miller, Jenni Konner, and Ilene Landress —will executive-produce. Dunham, who recently launched the feminist newsletter Lenny with Konner, is also expected to direct the pilot. Your move, Matthew Weiner.

Lena Dunham has been involved in a big way with the f-word today: feminism. It was in her newsletter Lenny that Jennifer Lawrence shared her feelings on the gender wage gap in Hollywood, and now the multi-talented Dunham has a new project coming to HBO, that also has the f-word linked to it, and it arrives perhaps just in time since "Girls" might end after season six.... HBO has ordered up a pilot for the comedy "Max," which Dunham will direct and produce. "Girls" writer and executive producer Murray Miller has penned the debut episode, set in 1963, which will follow a magazine writer who finds herself drawn into the rise of second-wave feminism. That sounds like a pretty great concept, and certainly a different outlook an era than something like the "Mad Men." Lisa Joyce (“Billy & Billie”) will lead the show (if it goes to series), with "Girls" team Jenni Konner...

If you're of the mind that there's already too much "Girls" in the world, well, take heed: The following just may send you over the edge.
During an event at the Television Academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif. on Thursday (March 13), "Girls" executive producer Ilene S. Landress, alongside the cast of the HBO series, teased a sold-out crowd with the possibility of a future film adaptation.
With the premiere of the "Veronica Mars" film on everyone's mind and the "Entourage" movie in production, the "Girls" team was asked if the polarizing comedy might ever see its own theatrical release, to which Landress responded, "Sure. Why not?"
Of course, her answer came with a caveat: "...if Lena [Dunham] and Jenni [Konner] and Judd [Apatow] have something left to say."
Somehow, it's hard to imagine a time may ever come when Dunham doesn't have anything to say.

Could six seasons and a movie be in the cards for HBO's lightning-rod comedy "Girls"?
At a Television Academy panel last night, the cast and crew -- creator/star Lena Dunham; actors Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke, and Andrew Rannells; and executive producer Ilene S. Landress -- talked about their buzzed-about series, including whether there might be a big-screen version someday. If "Veronica Mars" can make the leap, why not "Girls"?
"Sure. Why not?" Landress said, adding, "if Lena and Jenni [Konner] and Judd [Apatow] have something left to say."
Ok, so let's not buy our advance tickets just yet.
Other tidbits from the panel: Allison Williams is "obsessed with 'Frozen'" and would star as Anna in a Broadway musical version of the movie -- if she isn't too old by the time it happens. The sex scenes on "Girls" all smell different (ew). On a scale of 1-10, Dunham says,...

HBO has tapped Topher Grace, Sarah Silverman and Patti Lupone for People In New Jersey, its half-hour comedy pilot written by Bruce Eric Kaplan, directed by Paul Feig and executive produced by Lorne Michaels. The project is described as a hilarious, poignant look at life today as seen through the prism of an adult brother and sister (Grace, Silverman) living in New Jersey. Carl Levin (Grace) is an affable locksmith who has a definite idea of how things and people should be and when the world doesn’t conform to his vision, he resists mightily. His sister Melanie (Silverman) is a former management consultant and a closet optimist who now works part-time at a department store. Sunday, April 15 is a momentous day on the calendar this year. Not because of taxes. Not because we appear to be trembling on the precipice of spring. Because a program called Girls premieres on HBO that night at 10:30 p.m. written, directed by, and starring Lena Dunham, that tells the honest truth about female friendship when we're in our 20s; a truly unvarnished look at all the blood, sweat, and tears incumbent in such relationships. Make no mistake -- all three bodily fluids are there.

Self-aware writing and wincingly brave performances served up with deadpan delivery, HBO's "Girls" flashes with moments of keen insight and wry humor, but a "laffer," to borrow some hackneyed Variety speak, it's not. In the premiere, Hannah, played by creator/star Lena Dunham, faces off with incredulous parents as she lobbies for more dough, only to be laughed off and given the reality check: Grow up girl, get a job. The Producers Guild of America has announced their nominations for the PGA Awards and it's hard not to agree with every movie on the list. All of the ones I've seen are great films, and the ones I haven't seen I've heard are amazing. The only two on the list I haven't watched are The Artist and The Descendants, both of which I'm looking forward to seeing. I'd love Hugo or War Horse to take home the top prize though. Those were my two favorite movies of 2011. The winners will be announced on January 21st, 2012; check out the full press released with the list of nominations below and tell us what you think! What would you like to see win?
