Alistair Maclean wrote the book and screen play on this movie. there were no women in the book and there are two in the movie. the sequel he wrote later fallowed the movie not his first book. Force Ten From Navarone. Which was made in to a movie as well. Starring a young Harrison Ford

I did not like this movie compared to the book but the author, Alistair Maclean, wrote the screen play as well

the book had such a lack of hope for happiness. Dark and despair. they were defeated in the book. Rebecca won.

People could argue that the acting was over done in this move, but I know why. the Producer, Selznick, re-shot and cut the movie. At Oscar time Selznick took home the Oscar as best director.
