In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

Ultimately, it was Hart’s family-friendly image that led to some issues down the road. Most notably, Hart faced some serious repercussions after she opted to pose for the men’s magazine Maxim when the young star was at the height of her success.

Melissa Joan Hart is revealing one of the “worst days” of her life was when she says she was nearly fired from Sabrina the Teenage Witch after doing a Maxim photo shoot.
During a recent episode of the Pod Meets World podcast, hosts Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong showed a photo of Hart with Britney Spears at the New York premiere of the 1999 rom-com Drive Me Crazy. The actress proceeded to recall quite the chaotic 24 hours surrounding that photo, saying, “If you look at my eyes [in the photo], I’d been crying all evening.”
The day started off rough, Hart said, because she not only was planning to break up with her boyfriend at the time, who was also in the movie, but she had also “been up since 4 a.m.” doing press. Then, once she got to the movie premiere, she remembered being told she couldn’t leave her car until Spears arrived.

Alongside his co-stars, Grenier did a phenomenal job of bringing these vivid and realistic characters to life. Inspired by Mark Wahlberg‘s arrival in Hollywood, the show is, to this day, one of the most impactful in television history. While the role of Vincent Chase certainly defined Grenier’s career, he’s also done many other impressive projects on the side. He starred in Entourage Movie, Drive Me Crazy, The Devil...

Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Prime Video will continue rolling out its summer slate in the month of August, releasing new original series, as well as a mix of suspenseful films, action movies and more.
Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.

Little Big Town’s just-released ninth album Nightfall opens with the atmospheric, gently rolling “Next to You.” It’s a song that’s tailor-made for late-night listening by a warm winter fire. Although the tune eventually builds to a more dramatic, powerful conclusion, the quartet’s performance during their Wednesday night appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers comes off as somewhat subdued due to the audio mix. In effect, it makes them sound a bit distant, yet their enchanting harmonies shine through and remain at the forefront of the group’s most engaging qualities.

Life is messy, but especially so when you're coming to terms with your sexuality while running a sex clinic for your classmates. The first season of Netflix's Sex Education introduced fans to a group of English teenagers, led by mild-mannered virgin Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), his vivacious best friend Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), and misunderstood bad girl Maeve (Emma Mackey), who are just trying to get through the trials and tribulations of romance in high school. And from the looks of the first trailer of season two, things are only going to get more complicated.
Sure, it looks like Otis is now happily dating Ola (Patricia Allison), but things won't be smooth sailing for long thanks to their parents also happily dating. It's Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier in Drive Me Crazy all over again but way more R-rated. Then there's Eric, who seems to have found himself...

Britney Spears was clearly shaken up when her Las Vegas show came to an abrupt halt.
While Spears was performing "(You Drive Me) Crazy" on Wednesday night during her concert at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, a man rushed the stage and was immediately apprehended by security. In a video taken from a concertgoer, the security guard can be seen wrestling with the man before body slamming him on the side of the stage. The man is then seen hopping up with his arms flailing, and this time, some of Spears' male backup dancers jump in to help hold him down.

Is July really almost over?! How did the summer escape us so fast? Probably because we've been inside for three months binge watching Netflix. Summer may be almost over, but the good news is, it's almost the start of August, which means...new Netflix additions! Last month brought gems like Mean Girls and Back to the Future but forced us to say bye to Drive Me Crazy and Reading Rainbow. Tears still haven't dried. Will this month compare? We'll start with the painful goodbyes first to get them out of the way. The number one heartbreaker? The Sandlot is leaving Netflix on August 1. What are we supposed to watch when we're feeling nostalgic now? Teen Witch? Charlies Angeles? The Wild...

It's our favorite time of the month! Netflix just announced which shows and films we can expect to see come and go for July, and the picks are pretty great, to say the least. If you're a Netflix Original Series kinda person, this month is your month. Documentary enthusiasts, anime lovers and even the kids (or your inner kid) will also appreciate all of the additions this month. Not to ruin the mood, but some pretty great pieces are disappearing this month as well. Underrated teen gems like Drive Me Crazy with Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier, and even our childhood fave, Reading Rainbow, will be ghosting on us pretty soon. You have until the first day of the month to watch them, along with Ice Age:...

We love teen movies. We’ve seen everything from Say Anything to Whatever It Takes, Pretty In Pink to Drive Me Crazy. Name a teen movie that was in theaters and chances are we’ve seen it twice. But while we love these films we were always taken aback by the lack of diversity. Though Kid and Play and films like House Party and Class Act shook things up by adding some brown faces to the teen movie mix, it is still bleak out there. Let's party like it's 1999, shall we? In a successful attempt to give fans major nostalgia, Melissa Joan Hart took to Instagram earlier today to share one epic throwback picture (because it's Thursday, duh), and the amazing snapshot included one very familiar face—Britney Spears! Their photograph was taken over 15 years ago (Omg) when the actress and her Drive Me Crazy co-star Adrian Grenier appeared in Spears' music video for her hit song "Crazy." Yeah, you know, the one where she starts off as a retro waitress with the perfectly crimped pigtails and then transforms into a sexy dancer in a metallic green crop top and black jazz pants? So great. "#tbt with...

It's hard to believe it's been 11 years since we first met big screen heartthrob Vincent Chase (Adrien Grenier) and his boys, Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon), Eric "E" Murphy (Kevin Connolly) and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) on HBO's "Entourage." And, who can forget our favorite hot-headed agent, Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven)?! The eight-season series was filled to the brim with celebrity cameos, hot Hollywood nightclubs and a whole lot of partying -- and we loved every minute of it. While we finally get to see these boys back together on-screen in the "Entourage" movie on June 5, toofab is taking a look at what Vinny and his pack-mates have been up to since the show premiered over a decade ago in 2004. Grenier was probably best known for starring in the movie "Drive Me Crazy" before he nabbed his "Entourage" role. He later co-starred with Anne Hathaway in "The Devil Wears Prada" and directed two documentaries,...

After Spears' performance, the longtime pals caught up backstage. In a pic from their reunion, the blond beauties flash giant smiles. The two stars were clearly happy and excited to reconnect almost 15 years after they first met on set. The 90s revival can’t be ignored any longer. The nostalgia is in full bloom right now: walk down the high street and you’ll see 90s-inspired crop tops and stonewashed denim in every shop window, while current cool kids Iggy Azalea and Charli Xcx (neither of whom were old enough to see the film at the time) have paid slavish tribute to Clueless in the video for their current single Fancy. We’ve already pillaged the ‘80s for all they were worth and now, apparently, it’s time to start excavating the 90s. No matter how old that makes us feel.

It was a sad day for '90s teen-sitcom star Melissa Joan Hart, whose Kickstarter campaign for the movie "Darci's Walk of Shame" was canceled Monday.
Hart's crowdfunding effort hoped to raise $2 million for the project, but after about a month it had collected only $51,605 from a measly 315 supporters. The synopsis for "Darci" describes it as the story of what happens after "an impulsive act has Darci face enormous hurdles to get back to her sister’s wedding and avoid her family witness her first walk of shame."
Hart must have known the project was a bit of a gamble, as her personal message to donors asked them "to do what Hollywood won't, and that is to take a chance on me as the lead of a romantic comedy film." The actress called the movie a "leap of faith" and promised it would remain similar to the same comedy she's served up in "Sabrina,...

Last week, the Internet went crazy expressing either support or ennui after Zach Braff announced he'd be seeking $2 milllion on Kickstarter for his follow-up to "Garden State." But few noticed that Melissa Joan Hart, the actress famous for teenage roles in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," "Clarissa Explains it All," and the movie "Drive Me Crazy" (the one best known for its Britney Spears theme), launched a Kickstarter campaign for her new star vehicle "Darci's Walk of Shame." She's described the film as a "Funny, sexy, screwball, adult, romantic comedy. No magic. No black cat. Enormous fun." Those wishing to point out the flaws of celebrities on Kickstarter would do well to direct their attention away from Zach Braff (though his Kickstarter distribution plan has its flaws as I wrote about last week), and take a closer look at Hart's campaign. First, the pitch is bad. This has nothing to do...

As you can see above, the one-time Sabrina the Teenage Witch wants to reunite with director Tibor for Darci's Walk of Shame, a romantic-comedy in line with Hart.s Drive Me Crazy that needs some Kickstarter love to get going. Here.s the plot synopsis, spelled out by Hart in her Kickstarter letter to fans: .Darci.s Walk of Shame. is the story of a woman who can.t seem to find the right guy. She.s stuck in a pattern of bad relationships and is constantly under the scrutiny of her entire extended family. When she takes a trip to a tropical resort to attend her sister.s wedding.alone, she makes a snap decision to take a risk and step outside the box and wakes up alone in a stranger.s bed, left...
