Carla Gugino has been able to sustain a lengthy career with a wide array of projects. From her early days, she made a mark co-starring with Pauly Shore in Son-In-Law and continued with indies such as Electra Luxx and Women in Trouble. Over her forty years on screen, starting way back in an episode of Webster when she was 17, Carla Gugino was able to bring an ability to play comedy, drama, sci-fi, and action with equal measure. She starred in sitcoms like when she acted opposite Michael J. Fox on Spin City. Recently, she’s been able to parlay a collaboration with Mike Flanagan on projects like The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, as well as her recent turn in The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix.

The 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel "It" may be best known for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise, who made an entire generation seriously terrified of clowns, but it would be nothing without the heart and soul of the Loser's Club. In the 1950s, a group of misfit kids growing up in Derry, Maine are brought together, partially because they don't belong anywhere else, but also because they happen to be targeted by the malevolent force that haunts their town, stealing and murdering its local children. Together, they have to face off against Pennywise to stop the killing once and for all. That's what they think, anyway. But despite defeating Pennywise as children, they're forced to return to Derry as adults and once again confront the terrors of their youth.

Carla Gugino is amazing. From her early days co-starring with Pauly Shore in Son-In-Law to indies with her partner Sebastian Gutierrez, including Electra Luxx and Women in Trouble, Gugino has shirked the traditional path many Hollywood actresses have taken. The result is a career full of unique work on the big screen and small including work with filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez, Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game), Zack Snyder, Ridley Scott (American Gangster), and more. Her series work with Mike Flanagan has included an array of roles in The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, as well as her recent turn in The Fall of the House of Usher, which garnered Gugino her first Critics Choice nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

I got my nose in around about 4th grade. Before then, I had more of a little button nose. Adorable. But from the time I was 10, the pointy chin I had pretty much since I could crawl was joined by what I think of as a prominent, somewhat regal, nose in the style of what is called a “Roman” nose. (I even saw what looked an awful lot like my exact nose on an ancient statue the first time I went to Rome as a teenager!)
I was an outgoing child who had trouble not talking to other kids during class or flirting with boys. I loved making other kids laugh with jokes and impressions. I didn’t think of myself as unattractive, but I also knew that most boys who I liked didn’t like loud, quirky girls like me who had calluses on their hands from too much time on the monkey bars.

Following appearances on “Cagney & Lacey,” “Thirtysomething,” and “Webster,” 22-year-old Faith Ford landed her first regular TV series role on the CBS sitcom “Murphy Brown.” As one of seven original cast members, she played Corky Sherwood, a young news reporter whose cheerful personality often clashed with that of the titular Brown (Candice Bergen), her older, much more cynical colleague. Over the course of 10 seasons, the role brought Ford five Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy nominations.
Ford’s first bid was one of 11 that the show earned in 1989 for its inaugural season. At 24, she was the ninth youngest actress to ever compete in her category, and she now ranks just one spot lower. Including Ford, all 10 of the women on the list were added to it prior to 1994, with three having been under 20 and one having received her bid before turning 10.

There are few directors better qualified to helm every episode of WandaVision than Matt Shakman. As a kid in the Eighties, he was a working sitcom actor, appearing in multicam hits of the day like The Facts of Life, Webster, and three seasons as a regular on the Growing Pains spin-off Just the Ten of Us. As an adult director, he’s worked on psychologically intricate dramas like Mad Men and Six Feet Under, epic action like Game of Thrones, and self-aware single-cam comedies like You’re the Worst and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

These days, director William Dieterle is best remembered for his dreamy, stylized melodramas of the mid-to-late 1940s, but in his own time his greatest successes were mostly sturdy prestige biopics like The Story of Louis Pasteur and The Life of Emile Zola. Mac Davis, the singer-songwriter who parlayed pop and country hits into a network TV variety show and acting career, has died. He was 78.
His manager of nearly four decades, Jim Morey, announced Davis’ death on Facebook Tuesday night. “He was a music legend but his most important work was that as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend,” Morey wrote. “I will miss laughing about our many adventures on the road and his insightful sense of humor.” The Country Music Association later confirmed the news.
Country superstar Kenny Chesney offered his tribute to Davis, saying, “I met Mac as a young artist just starting out on my journey, when he was already a legend and a songwriting hero to me. After three decades in Hollywood, Carla Gugino has been in nearly everything—the Spy Kids movies, a Bon Jovi video, a BBC adaptation of The Buccaneers and the disaster flick San Andreas, to start. But strangers still stop her on the street to talk about her early turn as poor little rich girl Chica Barnfell in the 1989 cult classic Troop Beverly Hills.
“Troop Beverly Hills was very key for me. It was the first job that allowed me to make enough money that I was going to be able to support myself and continue acting,” Gugino, 46, tells People. Up until landing Troop Beverly Hills,...

Back when interracial marriage was a shady topic (are those dark days coming back?) the U.S. military had some adjustment issues. Full integration of the ranks didn’t remove the anti- Japanese bigotry. James Michener’s novel has been transformed into a big-scale romance, with Marlon Brando coming to terms with a split in loyalty between the flag and his private life. The big shock is that the Paul Osborn’s screenplay doesn’t let the military off easy.

In an announcement today by his family’s attorney, Aaron Hernandez was added to the growing list of athletes who have been diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or Cte.
The degenerative brain disease is linked to repeated head trauma or concussions. Its symptoms depression, short-term memory loss, impulsive behavior and confusion — and these symptoms can begin to appear long after a player’s career. Evidence is mounting suggesting a link between playing football and the disease.

Making a beloved Christmas special can be a daunting task. But the basics for a decent holiday special are simple: a happy moral lesson, some winter cheer, and absolutely no death, kidnapping, or insanity.
Really, during the holidays, all people want to do is relax, sit down with their families, and watch wholesome entertainment that won't leave anyone psychologically scarred or emotionally confused for years to come. That is why it is absolutely inexplicable that these totally bonkers holiday specials ever made it onto TV.

This depressing Christmas special takes place during the days of the Roman Empire, and tells the story of a donkey with freakishly long ears that is disliked and made fun of by all the other animals in the stable.

As pop-culture obsessives and children of the 1990s mourn the passing of James Avery, aka Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it's important to remember that Avery was the soul of another iconic '90s character. He was the voice of Shredder on the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, and we can never, ever forget that. Avery should have won The Sixth Man award for '80s television (an award we just made up). He guested on a wide swath of the decade's most iconic TV shows, including Webster, The Dukes of Hazzard, St. Elsewhere, Moonlighting, L.A. Law,...

We've featured plenty of editions of Zach Galifianakis' ongoing talk show Between Two Ferns, including last year's two-part Oscar specials (here and here), which we hope will return when the Academy Awards roll around in 2014. This time the comedian and star of The Hangover franchise is back with a holiday special, sitting down with Samuel L. Jackson (star of the third Die Hard movie ever) and Tobey Maguire of this year's The Great Gatsby. It's exactly as awkwardly hilarious as you'd expect, and there's even a special guest for some holiday music with the band Arcade Fire showing up at the end. Watch it! Here's Zach Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns Holiday Special from Funny or Die: We'd like to point out how awesome that reference to Emmanuel Lewis, star of "Webster" is, if only because he was used in the Oscar special as a mistake while trying to book Daniel Day-Lewis,...

Exclusive: The team behind Tom Hardy drama Locke talk about how they quickly put the project together and shot in only eight nights.
Eight nights, one star, one car. That’s the formula behind Locke, Steven Knight’s UK drama that has its world premiere in Venice tonight [Sept 2].
Tom Hardy stars as Ivan Locke, an ordinary guy with a loving family and burgeoning career, whose life changes during the course of 85 minutes – the time of one single car journey.
“He’s the most ordinary guy in the world, a construction director working on a huge skyscraper,” says Shoebox Films director Paul Webster. “The film takes place on the eve of the biggest moment of his career. He’s got a home a wife, two kids, a perfect job. By the end of the movie he has none of these things.”

As I've mentioned in the past, I am a huge Batman fan. Whether it be movies, comics, or TV shows, I love the Bat in all forms of media. The whole reason I ever got involved with Batman is because of Saturday morning cartoons, most notably, Batman: The Animated Series. I remember waking up to the orchestrated theme, watching the giant "WB" form into a blimp, and seeing Batman punch the blackened outline of two thugs who had just robbed a Gotham City bank. If that doesn't bring up the feeling of nostalgia, I'm not sure what will, folks.

My personal opinion as to why Batman is the most interesting character in DC, or maybe the comics universe in general, is because of the villains. The villains are the reason for Batman's being; they are the reason he has a job to do. So for Batman: The Animated Series,...

Veteran TV actor Henry Polic, who played Jerry Silver on ABC’s Webster and voiced Dr. Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow on Batman: The Animated Series, has died. He was 68. The longtime character actor, game show personality and host, and stage and TV thesp had fought a long battle with cancer, per his agent Brad Lemack. His first TV credit as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Mel Brooks’ 1975 comedy When Things Were Rotten was another of his career highlights; Polic also earned fame for his appearances on game shows Super Password, The $25,000 Pyramid, and The $100,000 Pyramid and hosted ABC’s Celebrity Double Talk in 1986. Polic played Dracula on the 1976 series Monster Squad and guest starred on shows including Alice, Mork & Mindy, Eight is Enough, Murder She Wrote, Sheena, and Saved By the Bell. Either I am in the minority or my comedic sensibilities are so vastly different from that of the general public I can't even see the folks on the other side because I simply don't get what is so funny about Zach Galifianakis' ignorant shlub schtick in these "Between Two Ferns" videos. Clearly others find some fascination in it considering Part 1 in the latest "Oscar Buzz" installments has been viewed more than 1.1 million times since being released 24 hours ago. In the two most recent videos Galifianakis, playing what may as well be his character from either The Hangover or Due Date, "interviews" Oscar hopefuls including Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Lining Playbook), Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Naomi Watts (The Impossible), Amy Adams (The Master), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Sally Field (Lincoln), Emmanuel Lewis ("Webster") pretending to be Daniel Day-Lewis and Bradley Cooper (Silver Lining Playbook). For the second day in a row, Funny Or Die released a new episode of "Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis" featuring some of this year's crop of Oscar nominees. Jessica Chastain, Sally Field and Bradley Cooper show up in this episode to get the full, deadpan Galifianakis treatment.
After ribbing Chastain and Field (he asked Field about gaining weight for "Lincoln": "How'd you do it? Eat Anne Hathaway?"), he was excited to interview the "Lincoln" star himself, before he realized his producers had booked not Daniel Day-Lewis, but Emmanuel Lewis of "Webster."
But the real highlight of the episode was Zach's interview with his "Hangover" co-star Bradley Cooper, who's nominated for "Silver Linings Playbook." After Zach reveals that he wrote an Oscar speech for Cooper, which was actually a concession speech to Daniel Day-Lewis, Cooper let his annoyance with his fellow Wolf Packer get the best of him...

If you’re a child of the 1980’s, you’ll likely remember Ami Dolenz for her roles on films like Can’t Buy Me Love, She’s Out of Control, and Miracle Beach and guest spots on Silver Spoons, Webster, and Saved by the Bell: The College Years. She even played Sloan in the short-lived TV adaptation of Ferris Bueller. The actress, however, is no stranger to the horror genre as she’s had parts in films from Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings to the greatest (and quite possibly only) movie ever made about giant killer ticks, Ticks. Tony Randel’s 1993 flick is an absolute blast and an obvious time capsule of early 90’s movie clichés, in the very best way possible.
With Olive Films’ new Blu-ray of Ticks recently hitting stores, FEARnet sat down with Dolenz to discuss her memories of the film, Seth Green’s hair, and creepy crawlies.

From the silent movie era into the early 1930s, the standard aspect ratio of Hollywood films was 1.33:1, a ratio developed by cinema pioneer Thomas Edison. Early in the “talkie” era, when the soundtrack was added to the side of the film frame, the width of the image was reduced even more, creating a more square-shaped picture. Since the early 1950s, most movies have been filmed in a process where the width of the visual frame is between 1.85 to 2.4 times greater than the height. This means that for every inch of visual height, the frame as projected on the screen is between 1.85 to 2.4 times as wide. This results in a panoramic view that can add a greater breadth and perception of the environment and mood of a movie. The rise in popularity of television is credited with inciting the motion picture’s move to the widescreen systems that flourished throughout the 50s,...

Actor, wrestler and American football star whose hardman roles included Mongo in Blazing Saddles
