All the 2012 films I've seen, with a short review for each one.

9/10 Very good to excellent 8/10 Good 7/10 Has its qualities 6/10 Has its moments but dispensable 5/10 Blah

I try to be as objective as possible when rating.

I'm not going to give 1 or 2 stars to plenty of films or to indulge in mindless ranting ;-)

1. Les Misérables (2012)

PG-13 | 158 min | Drama, Musical, Romance

63 Metascore

In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. The decision changes their lives forever.

Director: Tom Hooper | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried

Votes: 346,125 | Gross: $148.81M

Stellar performances in this risky musical adaptation where EVERYTHING is sung. At first you think it's going to be a long and annoying watch, but very rapidly you are engrossed, or at least I was, and don't really notice there are no normal dialogues. The sets and cinematography are truly beautiful. The timeless story is, of course, very moving. Excellent and unusual.

2. Agneepath (2012)

Not Rated | 174 min | Action, Crime, Drama

A young boy's father is lynched before his eyes; fifteen years later he returns home for revenge.

Director: Karan Malhotra | Stars: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor

Votes: 26,882 | Gross: $1.98M

This comes really close to the appellation "masterpiece". This phenomenal movie has amazing actors (Sanjay Dutt is incredible here!), a stunning cinematography, a beautiful soundtrack, but most of all, a dramatic story whose intensity cannot leave the viewer unfazed. I didn't see the 3 hours go by.

9/10

3. OMG: Oh My God! (2012)

Not Rated | 125 min | Comedy, Drama, Fantasy

A shopkeeper takes God to court when his shop is destroyed by an earthquake.

Director: Umesh Shukla | Stars: Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Mahesh Manjrekar

Votes: 65,407 | Gross: $0.92M

A very VERY intelligent movie about the way men use and abuse of religion. The dialogues are top notch, the message smart and subtle. A movie denouncing religion could have easily become a promoter of atheism, which is not the case. I thought the ending was perfect. And let's not forget that watching Akshay Kumar play God is brilliant! ;) One of the best film of the year, for sure.

9/10

4. Eega (2012)

Not Rated | 145 min | Action, Comedy, Drama

A murdered man is reincarnated as a housefly and seeks to avenge his death.

Director: S.S. Rajamouli | Stars: Sudeep, Nani, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Hamsa Nandini

Votes: 27,216

Eega is a mind-blowing film that will make you laugh, cry, and stare in amazement in front of so much inventivity. The direction is superb, and the visuals very well done. The story is touching, creative and full of suspense and the actors do it honour. The most original film I've seen in ages.

9/10

5. Django Unchained (2012)

R | 165 min | Comedy, Drama, Western

81 Metascore

With the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.

Director: Quentin Tarantino | Stars: Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington

Votes: 1,696,309 | Gross: $162.81M

Great entertainment. Waltz and DiCaprio are totally stealing the show with their brilliant performances in a story that has suspense, humour and also a social conscience. But really, they are definitely the main attraction here. They bring the movie to a new height. The direction is, obviously, top quality. I thought the movie lost some steam towards the end, but that's forgivable. Special mention to the soundtrack, that brings more fun to the film.

9/10

6. Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012)

Not Rated | 140 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

65 Metascore

Inspector Surjan Shekhawat, who is dealing with a depressing past, has to investigate a high profile murder case, deal with his crumbling marriage and use the help and solace of a prostitute by the name of Rosie.

Directors: Reema Kagti, Priyamvada Narayanan | Stars: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Votes: 45,099 | Gross: $2.71M

Great watch!! I deeply enjoyed this movie. The police inquiry is interesting, the drama part is moving, you're immediately taken into the story, and the way the characters' personal lives blend with the general plot is cleverly done. The various flash-back scenes are perfectly integrated throughout the movie, which also benefits from a very good direction and an excellent editing. The actors, main and secondary, are all well chosen, and the talented trio Aamir-Rani-Kareena is simply awesome.

Highly recommended.

9/10

7. Kahaani (2012)

Not Rated | 122 min | Mystery, Thriller

A pregnant woman's search for her missing husband takes her from London to Kolkata, but everyone she questions denies having ever met him.

Director: Sujoy Ghosh | Stars: Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Indraneil Sengupta, Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Votes: 65,912 | Gross: $1.04M

A very good and unusual thriller, Kahaani is also another way for Vidya Balan to show all her acting abilities. The movie has an intelligent screenplay, a well executed direction and a nice and original OST.

9/10

8. Argo (2012)

R | 120 min | Biography, Drama, History

86 Metascore

Acting under the cover of a Hollywood producer scouting a location for a science fiction film, a CIA agent launches a dangerous operation to rescue six Americans in Tehran during the U.S. hostage crisis in Iran in 1979.

Director: Ben Affleck | Stars: Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin

Votes: 639,304 | Gross: $136.03M

Great watch!! I feel like punching people accusing the film of racism or propaganda. Some people can't even enjoy a good film anymore because they see evil everywhere. A shame. Argo is an anti-conformist political thriller that is actually more about a lonely man's crazy project for a rescue mission than about the politics in itself. It is also a marginal, more than once funny tribute to the power of films. It has suspense and that ideal old school look. Recommanded!

9/10

9. English Vinglish (2012)

Not Rated | 134 min | Comedy, Drama, Family

A quiet, sweet tempered housewife endures small slights from her well-educated husband and daughter every day because of her inability to speak and understand English.

Director: Gauri Shinde | Stars: Sridevi, Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand

Votes: 39,607 | Gross: $1.67M

Adorable movie! Sridevi delivers an admirable, very touching performance. The story is cute, delicate, funny, moving and inspiring. The rest of the cast is really cool, special mention to that French actor! :)

9/10

10. Bachelorette (2012)

R | 87 min | Comedy, Romance

53 Metascore

Three friends are asked to be bridesmaids at a wedding of a woman they used to ridicule back in high school.

Director: Leslye Headland | Stars: Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden

Votes: 48,873 | Gross: $0.45M

Well that was a pleasant surprise too. I watched it first for the cast, and then because I tend to like female oriented movies of this kind. However I was afraid this might turn out as just another vulgar, not-that-funny comedy. At first, well it seems the case. But quite rapidly you see that the characters are deeper than in most comedies and their psychology keeps getting revealed throughout the movie, until at the end you realize it was not just a comedy about stoned and drunk women who messed up the wedding dress of their friend and have to get it fixed in just a few hours (by the way THAT is the theme of the film, I don't know who wrote the one-line summary here on IMDb but it is NEVER about the 3 of them having ridiculed the 4th one), it is also and more deeply about unhappy, broken girls who actually have good hearts and are always there for their friends. I thought it was fun, and I loved the message :)

9/10

11. John Carter (2012)

PG-13 | 132 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

51 Metascore

Transported to Barsoom, a Civil War vet discovers a barren planet seemingly inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Woola and a princess in desperate need of a savior.

Director: Andrew Stanton | Stars: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton

Votes: 286,300 | Gross: $73.08M

A very pleasant surprise. This film got me hooked from start to finish, the rhythm never decreased and it never was cliché. The world created is interesting and has everything you can look for in fantasy: creatures, different peoples and cultures, magic (in this case the magic comes close to sci-fi), new landscapes. The plot is well developped and the non linear story telling well handled. I haven't read the novel from which it is adapted so I don't know how loosely the story was brought to the big screen, but what is sure is that the film's screenplay has depth and suspense, and leaves the viewer wondering until the very end. The film also has a great cast. I particularly appreciated Ciaran Hinds and James purefoy in secondary roles. I thought this was a very good watch.

9/10

12. Pitch Perfect (2012)

PG-13 | 112 min | Comedy, Music, Romance

66 Metascore

Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.

Director: Jason Moore | Stars: Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp

Votes: 330,859 | Gross: $65.00M

I hadn't any specific expectations for Pitch Perfect, and I have to say this is a very engaging movie. There is nothing new in the general plot, but the writers compensated for it by adding some comical eccentricities here and there; and, of course, the real interest of the film lies in the musical numbers. They are simply awesome, and their energy is communicative. From Simple Minds to Miley Cyrus, from Bruno Mars to Blackstreet, the songs chosen make it hard for viewers to restrain from singing along. The actors gave very good performances, but if Anna Kendrick's characters supposedly is the heroine, Anna Camp and Brittany Snow (gorgeous as a red-hair) totally steal the show. Special mention too to Skylar Astin for an engaging performance. Yeah, I know, it's the second time I use the word "engaging" in this short review. But this word really describes Pitch Perfect best!

9/10

13. Barfi! (2012)

Not Rated | 151 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

Three young people learn that love can neither be defined nor contained by society's definition of normal and abnormal.

Director: Anurag Basu | Stars: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Ileana D'Cruz, Saurabh Shukla

Votes: 86,826 | Gross: $2.80M

A truly beautiful film that has everything for being considered a GREAT movie or a classic: 3 wonderful acting performances: Priyanka proving once again that her acting talent has no boundaries, Ranbir admirably carrying the movie with what was a tricky role to play, and Ileana being revealed to a wider audience; but also an inventive and poetic direction and cinematography, and of course a great story with very unusual characters.

9/10

14. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012)

Not Rated | 110 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

A few drinks too many leads an uptight architect and quick-witted hairstylist to marry in Las Vegas. Can a mistake lead to friendship and love?

Director: Shakun Batra | Stars: Kareena Kapoor, Zenobia Shroff, Imran Khan, Boman Irani

Votes: 7,214 | Gross: $1.15M

Very nice film, often sold as a rom-com, when it's actually more a "slice of life" film. The two main actors are great. Even if you're not a Kareena or Imran fan, you can just love them there. The characters are well written, realistic, touching and funny. I spent a very good moment with this movie; It's fun, entertaining, without the need for you to turn off your brain. I'll see this again with pleasure.

This film is highly UNDERrated here. Most journalists gave 4/5 to the movie, I don't get how it can have a 5.something here... O_o

9/10

15. Looper (2012)

R | 119 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

84 Metascore

In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent into the past, where a hired gun awaits - someone like Joe - who one day learns the mob wants to 'close the loop' by sending back Joe's future self for assassination.

Director: Rian Johnson | Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano

Votes: 603,148 | Gross: $66.49M

Very original screenplay, solid cast (the kid is amazing!), suspense until the very end, sharp editing and a strong work on the cinematography... Looper is a powerful futuristic thriller that will make you think.

9/10

16. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)

Not Rated | 176 min | Drama, Romance

An uncompromising film on true love from the legendary and unforgettable director Yash Chopra which is fascinatingly distinctive and contemporary.

Director: Yash Chopra | Stars: Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Anupam Kher

Votes: 59,152 | Gross: $3.05M

A very solid movie, JTHJ is never boring (2 periods separated by 10 years collide at several points in the movie, which gives a well balanced rhythm, avoids flatness and gives an interesting contrast before/after for SRK's role) and always classy. It's a love triangle, but not a deja-vu one. I found the story touching and managing to be original. SRK, Katrina and Anushka are perfect in their roles. And, last but not least, the music is AWESOME. From one song to the other it's touching, fun, or exhilarating. The picturisations are amazing too. Katrina really is one of the best dancers of Bollywood!

But... Yes, there is a but. The film had many possible endings, and I thought maybe the one chosen was not the best. Obviously I won't detail to avoid spoiling.

More generally, JTHJ is not ground-breaking, but it is undoubtedly a good movie.

8.5/10

17. Rowdy Rathore (2012)

Not Rated | 140 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

A con man uncovers a deadly secret and must save his lady love, the small-town locals and the little girl who insists she's his daughter, from the mob.

Director: Prabhu Deva | Stars: Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Nassar, Yashpal Sharma

Votes: 23,870 | Gross: $0.78M

I enjoyed a lot this film. It has humour, action, romance, the masala package. But it's not what I especially appreciated. I loved the unexpected plot that kept you wondering for a good part of the movie, the technicality of the direction, the amazing music and as amazing choreographies, and the performances by Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. The humour, espacially in the beginning, was a bit goofy, but other than that (and even that is not really a failure, some people love goofiness) it's a very good movie.

8.5/10

18. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

PG-13 | 103 min | Drama

67 Metascore

Charlie, a 15-year-old introvert, enters high school and is nervous about his new life. When he befriends his seniors, he learns to cope with his friend's suicide and his tumultuous past.

Director: Stephen Chbosky | Stars: Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Paul Rudd

Votes: 548,238 | Gross: $17.74M

Lovely film with good performances and a very emotional coming-of-age story. The final twist was very moving and well brought. I really liked the development of the plot (this is the type of films that only gets its meaning at the very end) as well as the hushed, sweet atmosphere present all through the film. Really worth watching. Besides, this is really Emma Watson's first major role after Hermione and she pulls it off.

8.5/10

19. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

PG-13 | 136 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

After Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.

Director: Marc Webb | Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Irrfan Khan

Votes: 702,669 | Gross: $262.03M

A solid film that may be not surprising (if you've seen Sam Raimi's version a few years ago) but that fulfills its role. It is entertainment with substance, visual feast without forgetting character depth, fantasy with realism. The film managed to keep my interest even though I know the general story, and the actors definitely delivered. Andrew Garfield reminds me of a young Scott Bakula, Emma Stone is good as usual, and many well known faces interpret the secondary characters. Concerning the direction, which is fine, special mention for those short action scenes seen through Spider Man's point of view. It was an original idea and there should have been more of it in the film. Overall, this reboot may not really stand out, but it is more than quality entertainment.

8.5/10

20. Cocktail (2012)

Not Rated | 146 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

A love triangle between a guy and two girls, who are best friends but the complete opposite of one another.

Director: Homi Adajania | Stars: Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty, Dimple Kapadia

Votes: 15,260 | Gross: $1.03M

I really enjoyed this film. The music is great. The picturisations of the songs are really nice, especially during the opening credits (Angreji Beat) and the club scene (Tera Naam Japdi Phiran), where the editing is simply excellent. The direction shows a strong technique too. Deepika is stunning and delivers her best performance to date. And the plot is fun, fresh and modern. Many complained that the second part of the movie didn't work, but the drama part was needed to give a dramatic knot to the movie and to counter balance the beginning. Sure, it could have been more original, but the first half and the very end have so much charm that it fills in the light hollow of the second half. A solid film.

8.5/10

21. The Hunger Games (2012)

PG-13 | 142 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

68 Metascore

Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games: a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death.

Director: Gary Ross | Stars: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci

Votes: 1,004,130 | Gross: $408.01M

Besides a very original - and disturbing - plot taken from the famous novel of the same name, this film has a very nice cast and a wonderful lead actress. She will undoubtedly go very, very far. The themes of politics, dictatorship, slavery, misery and cruelty are well integrated in the film, though some parts may have been dwelled on a bit more, especially in the epilogue.

I've rapidly seen some non professional reviews here or elsewhere and it is crazy that some people think this is just for teens or that "nothing happens" (as if a movie needed TONS of action to be good -__-)...

8.5/10

22. Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

PG-13 | 127 min | Action, Adventure, Biography

57 Metascore

In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.

Director: Rupert Sanders | Stars: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin

Votes: 302,500 | Gross: $155.33M

It's true that the dialogues are a bit blah and that the story of Snow White is not made any deeper in this adaptation, but it remains a nice story and it is given here an amazing visual treatment. Of course, if you don't like bleak, dark atmospheres, then you won't like this. Otherwise, like me you'll probably find the cinematography stunningly beautiful. I thought the acting was quite nice too. A good re-telling of the tale.

8.5/10

23. Ishaqzaade (2012)

Not Rated | 120 min | Action, Drama, Romance

A love story of a passion ignited by hatred. Of two people. Born to hate. Destined to love.

Director: Habib Faisal | Stars: Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Gauahar Khan, Anil Rastogi

Votes: 8,330

This film was a good surprise. A very intense love story, a screenplay well crafted, two good actors, and probably one of the best soundtracks of the year. Plus, the picturisation of the songs does them honour. Definitely a good watch.

8/10

24. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

R | 122 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

81 Metascore

After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.

Director: David O. Russell | Stars: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver

Votes: 742,986 | Gross: $132.09M

An nice rom com about two unusual characters, cute and funny in their weird ways, and incredibly well played by Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. It mixes craziness and sweetness, family drama, love and mental health, but takes a positive view even on the most difficult moments our characters encounter. More than a feel-good movie, it's like an embrace-your-weirdness movie.

8/10

25. The Vow (2012)

PG-13 | 104 min | Drama, Romance

43 Metascore

A car accident puts Paige in a coma, and when she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo works to win her heart again.

Director: Michael Sucsy | Stars: Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum, Sam Neill, Jessica Lange

Votes: 205,027 | Gross: $125.01M

Nice, different romance, portrayed by two lovely actors (Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams). The characters are original but believable (after all they're based on real people, now that I think of it), the writers didn't try too much and delivered a coherent, touching and realistic story that manages to avoid the clichés of the genre.

8/10

26. The Avengers (2012)

PG-13 | 143 min | Action, Sci-Fi

69 Metascore

Earth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.

Director: Joss Whedon | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner

Votes: 1,459,887 | Gross: $623.28M

Obviously a good, solid super-hero movie, but does it really deserve all the hype around it? I love Joss Whedon, and I don't have any complains concerning the direction or visual effects. But the plot is kind of deja vu. I thought the story and the relationships between the characters were too simplistic are lacked originality or depth. Okay, it's great to combine the franchises and have this great cast, but beyond that the film is generic. The final battle is just like the final battle in the 1st Transformers. I know Marvel invented the Avengers way before Transformers existed, what I'm saying is that... Well the movie Transformers was released years ago, and the final battle in The Avengers is pretty much deja vu; I'm sure with a bit more research some new, original aspects could have been brought.

Personally, I think the Spider-man reboot is at least as good as The Avengers, and the same goes for Transformers (first installment). So, nice super-hero movie but a tad overrated IMO. I really don't think it deserves to be called the "greatest superhero movie".

27. This Means War (2012)

PG-13 | 103 min | Action, Comedy, Romance

31 Metascore

C.I.A. operatives wage an epic battle on each other when they discover they are dating the same woman.

Director: McG | Stars: Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, Til Schweiger

Votes: 194,268 | Gross: $54.76M

Funny and entertaining rom-com, with a touch of action and spy thematic. It's different from other rom-coms, it's lively, it's a very good pop-corn movie in front of which I spent a good relaxed moment. I didn't know the 2 male actors and I thought they were fine. Reese Witherspoon good heroine as always.

28. Vicky Donor (2012)

Not Rated | 126 min | Comedy, Romance

A man is brought in by an infertility doctor to supply him with his sperm, where he becomes the biggest sperm donor for his clinic.

Director: Shoojit Sircar | Stars: Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam, Annu Kapoor, Dolly Ahluwalia

Votes: 45,345 | Gross: $0.17M

A very different and fresh comedy/slice of life film about a man giving his sperm. The main actor really delivers, but I also loved the performance of Annu Kapoor, and Yami Gautam was fine for her hindi film debut.

8/10

29. Bel Ami (2012)

R | 102 min | Crime, Drama, History

42 Metascore

A chronicle of a young man's rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city's wealthiest and most influential women.

Directors: Declan Donnellan, Nick Ormerod | Stars: Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci

Votes: 19,281 | Gross: $0.12M

A good and faithful adaption of Maupassant's novel, this film combines a good cast (Pattinson is excellent in the main role and very true to the book character), a good story and a good cinematography. The film may not be outstanding, nor mind-blowing, but it has a solid plot and execution.

From what I've read here and there, some really disliked the movie. Well it means they would dislike the novel too, which is a French literature classic. The movie couldn't have been more faithful to it, and there definitely is nothing wrong with neither of them. Mmmh, I'm thinking that Twilight haters must be the ones disliking that much the movie...

30. Shanghai (2012)

Not Rated | 120 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

Prime leader of a campaign against a big government project is killed in what appears to be a road accident. An IAS officer is ordered to probe the incident and the veils of falsehood begin to drop.

Director: Dibakar Banerjee | Stars: Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Prasenjit Chatterjee

Votes: 10,522

A powerful film about political and industrial corruption in India, adapted from the novel Z (by Vassilis Vassilikos). Great cast, strong cinematography, interesting plot... It's a raw movie that will deplease viewers looking for 1st degree action, but if you have more than a 12-year-old mentality, then you'll find this movie suspenseful and quite gripping.

31. Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

Not Rated | 132 min | Action, Adventure, Romance

India's top spy Tiger and his love Zoya battle the dark world of intelligence and espionage that forbids its soldiers from loving the enemy.

Director: Kabir Khan | Stars: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Girish Karnad, Ranvir Shorey

Votes: 38,703 | Gross: $2.35M

A fun and entertaining action packed romance. It's rather well shot (not surprising when Kabir Khan is behind the camera), it's well acted and it's well written. It IS pop corn entertainment, and some people hate the movie on that purpose. Well these people should get off the stick they have up their arses, excuse my language. Ek That Tiger is a fun ride without being brainless or outrageously stupid like some films in the pop-corn genre are. And that's coming from someone who normally don't care much about Salman's films. Like it or not, but hating on it is ridiculous.

32. Paan Singh Tomar (2012)

Votes: 37,875 | Gross: $0.04M

Interesting drama about a sportsman who became a bandit. Paan Singh Tomar lived an unconventional life and it serves well this well executed film. Irrfan delievered there a very good performance.

Director: Kunal Deshmukh | Stars: Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda, Esha Gupta, Borde Abhijeet

Votes: 6,052

Better than Jannat 1, this film, which isn't a sequel, delivers drama and suspense. Randeep Hooda gives a very good performance as a tortured policeman. The particular strength of Jannat 2 is its unconventional and moving ending. A good watch.

A good classic spy movie. It has well shot action, the right dose of suspense, glamour and locations. The story is coherent, easy to follow and does not go haywire. Music and actors are more than okay. Nothing new, but nice! It delivers exactly what it's supposed to deliver.

Cute animated film with an important message about the respect of nature and animals. It that respect, it manages in several scenes to be quite moving. The larger plot is nice though not original, and the songs were not indispensable. The film's real achievement is in its ecological stance and the way it is presented.

Director: Vivek Agnihotri | Stars: Nikhil Dwivedi, Gulshan Devaiah, Paoli Dam, Mohan Kapur

A very good story from start to finish, undermined by a rather cheap direction that makes the movie look like a second-grade TV film. But the content being more important than the shell, the film still deserves a good rating.

38. Housefull 2 (2012)

Not Rated | 145 min | Action, Comedy, Drama

A comedy of errors wherein four men help each other to fool their prospective father-in-laws creating a cascade of confusion and mayhem.

Director: Sajid Khan | Stars: Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Asin Thottumkal, Jacqueline Fernandez

Votes: 15,840 | Gross: $1.50M

Not a sequel, Housefull 2 is however just like Housefull 1. Overall funny, some even very funny moments, but here and there spoiled by some clumsy, heavy scenes. It has too a rather enjoyable vaudeville plot, though this one is more far fatched than the previous one. In a few words, an okay comedy.

39. Ekk Deewana Tha (2012)

PG | 136 min | Drama, Romance

An aspiring filmmaker from Mumbai falls in love with a woman from a strict orthodox Christian family.

Director: Gautham Vasudev Menon | Stars: Prateik Patil Babbar, Amy Jackson, Sachin Khedekar, Manu Rishi Chadha

Nice romantic film, it takes a rather realistic approach to the genre. Not too much drama, just enough to maintain the viewer's interest. The mise en abyme (film in the film) towards the end was a good idea and is well done. Overall, a fine movie, but I think not that memorable, but this is of course very subjective.

40. Heroine (2012)

Not Rated | 149 min | Drama

A female superstar struggles through the trials and tribulations of being a Bollywood actress.

Director: Madhur Bhandarkar | Stars: Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda, Shahana Goswami

Votes: 4,610 | Gross: $0.59M

The problem with this film is that it lacks a plot line. It's about the ups and downs of an actress, but there's no consistence... The story seems to be a variety of moments in her life without dramatic progression, which is problematic in terms of narration. On the other hand, you cannot ignore that Kareena gives a wonderful performance, and that Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda are good. Besides, if the movie is not exciting, itisn't really flat either.

So to me it's a 6, the movie being saved by the powerful interpretation.

Directors: Karan Johar, Abhishek Varman | Stars: Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Rishi Kapoor

Big deception of 2012 :/ Coming from Karan Johar, I had high hopes for this movie. But unfortunately I really think it fails to leave a mark. The story, or more exactly the way it's developed makes it really flat. Some scenes could have been better written (the screenplay is NOT from Karan Johar), some scenes lack subtlety, the songs, with the exception of Radha, are not exceptional... But, it's true that some scenes work just fine, that you can feel the possibilities the story had but never truly used... And that the 3 newcomers are GREAT. They really save the film from being bland. Alia Bhat gives a solid performance for a first role, but the two guys, Varun and Sidharth, were IMO big revelations. I don't doubt we'll see a lot of them in the years to come.

PG-13 | 100 min | Romance

Director: Anu Menon | Stars: Ali Zafar, Aditi Rao Hydari, Candice Pereira, Scherrikar Bell

Votes: 3,837

A nice little rom-com, not annoying to watch (it has 2 cute actors, a rather stylish cinematography for such a small budget), yet I think it fails at leaving a mark on the viewer. Actually, I keep forgetting that I've seen this movie! ^^ The story is coherent yet very simplistic. It's an OK one time watch if nothing more.

43. LOL (2012)

PG-13 | 97 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

Director: Lisa Azuelos | Stars: Miley Cyrus, Douglas Booth, Ashley Greene, Demi Moore

So much hate around this movie! It's really funny, because it's the exact same thing than the original French version (same writer/director), and the French version had received quite a lot of good reviews when it was released, but this one, which I repeat is THE SAME has very mixed to bad reviews.

The only different thing is of course the actors. And I'm sorry, but Miley here gives a good performance, and definitely as good as her French predecessor (Christa something, oops forgot the family name).

So, just like the French version, this is a well directed/edited movie about 21st century teens, first love, sex, breakups. Yes, it's shallow. Because a lot of teens are kind of shallow. There is nothing deep in "first kisses", "first boyfriend", etc. You can make something deep out of it, but if like the writer you want to make something socially realistic and a portrayl of the vast majority of teens out there, well then you get this. It is well written, because it is a very representative social capture, but of course the story won't take you aback, of course it won't linger in your brain for very long.

So, I'll give a 6. The acting and technique are fine, the story is well written but its theme unfortunately makes it too superficial.

But the rating here (thanks Miley haters!) and all the hate is very stupid. And definitely stupider than this movie supposedly is.

PG-13 | 101 min | Drama, Mystery, Romance

A Marine travels to Louisiana after serving three tours in Iraq and searches for the unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war.

Director: Scott Hicks | Stars: Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling, Blythe Danner, Riley Thomas Stewart

It had the potential: the plot in the beginning was interesting and promising. But if the beginning is okay, in spite of a lack of cohesion between the scenes, it rapidly evolves in a collection of clichés. The cool grandma (who could by no means by the heroine's grandma but rather her mother, that's another story), the shy heroine, the nasty ex husband, the mysterious handsome stanger, etc. It gets annoying. To top it all, the climax in the end was, I thought, completely useless, besides being a cliché and not fitting the storyline. It's a shame, because you sense what the film could have been. Zac Efron delievers a good performance. The main actress was however, in my opinion, utterly bland (something I very rarely think, that's saying something).

It has its funny moments but I found the plot too convoluted and going around in circles instead of evolving, leading to an unsufferable climax that almost gave me a headache.

It begins well, the first hour is really funny, even if quite deja vu and a bit oafish at times. Then, it begins to fall apart, some scenes are definitely underachieving comedy-wise (the party they throw for instance), and the climax is just blah. 2 completely useless cameos (they could have been great, they turned out to be ridiculous) and an "action scene" neither suspenseful nor funny.

Not Rated | 117 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

The true love between a couple in 1910, 1960 and 2012. Their love is so strong that even destiny wants to bring them together.

Director: Kunal Kohli | Stars: Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Prachi Desai, Neha Sharma

Votes: 4,257 | Gross: $0.67M

The problem with this movie is that it doesn't have dramatic knots. The thing every movie must have, is a dramatic knot. It's a shame, because Teri Meri Kahaani has a beautiful artistic direction, the film has a great look, a real work on the visuals and costumes. It has 2 nice actors. But it never really clicks, even though it's definitely watchable, because there's no knot. It's like absolutely nothing happens. They meet, they split, 3 times in different eras, okay, but it remains highly superficial, you never really care for the characters and and the drama is ultra light. Frustrating given the possibilities the film had.

The enduring friendship between the Walling and Ostroff families is tested when Nina, the prodigal Ostroff daughter, returns home for the holidays after a five-year absence and enters into an affair with David, head of the Walling family.

Director: Julian Farino | Stars: Leighton Meester, Hugh Laurie, Catherine Keener, Allison Janney

Votes: 13,533 | Gross: $0.36M

The plot was enticing: Dr House and the girl from Gossip Girl are in love! However, the film didn't really deliver despite its very good cast (not just Laurie and Meester). The story begins well but rapidly it seems stuck and I felt like it actually went backwards instead of forwards. The characterization never deepens and remains quite poor. We never really get the characters. The choice of the narrator was also strange. But most of all, the ending was absolutely unclimactic. I felt like saying: "all that for that?!" It has its (few) moments and an interesting cast. Other than that, nothing much to remember.
