We've been hearing rumours for months that Wesley Snipes will return as Blade, and it was earlier this week that we learned the actor has indeed signed up for a future MCU appearance.
While X-Men and Spider-Man typically get the lion's share of credit for bringing superheroes back to theaters, Blade and Blade II arguably kickstarted the genre's return to prominence in the early 2000s. With that in mind, we find it easy to imagine Marvel Studios being keen to give Snipes the chance to bid farewell to the Daywalker after the disaster that was Blade: Trinity.
According to a rumour shared by scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Snipes has agreed to reprise his role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine.
This makes more sense than the next Avengers movies as Mahershala Ali should have appeared in the Blade reboot by then. It's also worth remembering that Snipes and Ryan Reynolds have a history on screen.

As the world awaits Marvel’s verdict on the upcoming Phases Five and Six of its interconnected universe, a more urgent matter lies in the hands of Wesley Snipes, Mahershala Ali, and the common thread that binds the actors with the same fate – Blade.

Film Factory has picked up rights to Luis Gabriel Beristáin’s revenge action thriller “The Gentleman,” a Spain-Mexico co-production starring an international cast led by Golden Globe-winner Ron Pearlman.
Produced by Spanish company Esto También Pasará and Mexican outfit Sdb Films (“The Deal”), shooting on “The Gentleman” is already underway in San Sebastián, Spain, and will run for six weeks. The film is scheduled to be released by Universal in Spain in 2025.
Uruguay’s Juma Fodde penned the film’s screenplay, which is adapted from Carlos Augusto Casas’ Spanish novel “Ya no quedan junglas adodnde regresar.”
“The Gentleman” turns on an aging former U.S. soldier named Theo (Perlman), who spends his days dreaming about better times that are now years behind him. Each week, Theo meets with Olga, a prostitute he pays to talk with him about who he once was and what he might have been under different circumstances.

Guillermo del Toro’s affable smile can win anyone’s heart. Not to mention, his movies as well. The Mexican filmmaker has given us a sleuth of cult classics over the years. Though not one of the most dominating personalities out there, del Toro has quietly sneaked in quite a number of remarkable works over the span of his illustrious career. With three Academy Awards and just as many Golden Globes, there can be no doubt about his impact on the industry. But things could have turned out better if he had chosen another movie over Hellboy 2.

Hollywood has yet to find a filmmaker who can do what Guillermo del Toro can. With films like Cronos and Pan’s Labyrinth, he has time and again proven why he is simply the best of the best. However, when it was time to unveil the first look of his 2013 film, Pacific Rim, even he couldn’t keep his nerves under control. While it is now considered to be one of the best films to have paid appropriate tribute to Japan’s anime and kaiju culture, Guillermo del Toro was not too confident about the film.

As the filmmaker prepared himself for the release of the film’s trailer to a live crowd, he simply couldn’t keep his calm. Just moments before the fans, who love him so dearly, could see what Guillermo del Toro had in store for him, the filmmaker voiced his fears to his wife.

Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" remains one of the very best live-action films inspired by anime that wasn't actually based on anime (though it eventually became one). The 2013 movie is essentially about giant robots fighting kaiju. Its influences are many, from kaiju movies like "Godzilla" and the work of Ray Harryhausen, but also clearly tokusatsu like del Toro's beloved "Ultraman" and even mecha anime like "Gunbuster," "Getter Robo," and "Mazinger Z."
"Pacific Rim," arguably more so than "The Matrix," feels like the biggest American movie inspired by anime, a movie made by someone who loves the medium, at a time when anime was starting to enter the mainstream. But if you asked Guillermo del Toro that question shortly before the release of the film, it seems he would have been a nervous wreck.

Marvel’s Morbius has utterly disappointed its fans, while the film built immense hype when its trailers were dropped, promising a fresh take in the vampire genre, taking place in the superhero universe. However, when the film was released on the big screens, it became evident that the film was far from the lofty expectations set by the fans and the critics. The film is incohesive and fails to leave any lasting impact on its viewers.

4K is about to get a lot darker, as director Guillermo del Toro teased over the weekend that four more of his films will be hitting the format within “the next year or so”. They are: his 1993 debut Cronos, 1997 follow-up Mimic, 2002’s Hellboy, and 2015’s Crimson Peak, which is one of del Toro’s most visually striking features.
In an X post from yesterday, Guillermo del Toro wrote, “4 new 4K transfers coming up: Crimson Peak, then Cronos, Blade II and finally Mimic all in the next year or so. I am done with the color timing of 3 out of the 4.” Note that these releases will not be coming out simultaneously or in chronological order.

Marvel has apparently been having a very, very hard time rebooting Blade into the MCU, which is kind of strange when you think about it. I mean, how hard is it to crack Blade? The character is pretty simple! He looks cool, he has cool weapons, and he kills vampires. That's it, really. It's not that complicated. And yet, Kevin Feige and company continue to struggle with the project, which is set to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role of the Daywalker. The project, along with Ali's casting, was first announced in 2019, and it's apparently been all downhill since then.
Stacy Osei-Kuffour was initially tapped to write the film, with Bassam Tariq directing. But Tariq left the project due to constant shuffling of the production and creative differences. Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.

Though Huluween is almost officially over, Hulu is not slowing down at all as the new month approaches! The streamer will head into November with plenty of new additions to un-spook yourself and keep warm, including the new Awkwafina and Sandra Oh-led “Quiz Lady”; Christmas classics like “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation” and “The Polar Express,” and much more.
On the TV side, Hulu will have the exclusive two-episode premiere of FX’s limited murder mystery series “A Murder at the End of the World” starring Emma Corrin. “Fargo” fans can also catch the next-day streaming premiere of Season/Year 5, which will star Jon Hamm, Juno Temple, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. There could be a contest as to whether there are more unmade Guillermo del Toro projects or more unmade “Star Wars” movies. So it’s not illogical that the two briefly intersected. The filmmaker himself noted, during a Q&a sponsored by Collider, that he was once working on a “Star Wars” movie with screenwriter David S. Goyer set on Tatooine. The project was indeed a would-be “Star Wars Story” centered on the crime lord Jabba the Hutt.
Goyer previously confirmed the project in the abstract on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he stated that “There was just a lot of behind [the scenes] stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time. But it’s a cool script.”

There isn’t another filmmaker quite like Guillermo del Toro.
While he’s been working since 1993, he’s only made 12 films. But each one of those films is so singularly well-crafted and emotionally resonant, that they stand out as being unlike any other films being made today (or really at any other time). Del Toro stuffs these bejeweled treasures, made with clockwork intricacy, full of ghosts and ghouls and phantasmagorical creatures. But they are also populated with human characters who sport actual and psychic scars, made whole or irreparably damaged by their encounter with the unknown. Whether in English or Spanish, with the tiniest budget or the most expansive, del Toro maintains his creative vision through it all.
It’s with this in mind that we look back at his entire filmography, from the least to most mind-altering.

Guillermo del Toro has been one of the most beloved filmmakers in all of fandom, and perhaps all of cinema, for the past 30 years. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, del Toro was fascinated with the fantastical at an early age, turning his childhood obsessions into a long creative career that has celebrated the monstrous, the grotesque, and the otherworldly. His is an aesthetic that gives the macabre with a sense of beauty and poetry.
From the start, del Toro’s passion for horror, science fiction, and fantasy in all their myriad forms—movies, TV, literature, comics, art—came through unapologetically, making him not just seem like he was one of us, a fan, but an uber fan; one of us who got to realize the visions and dreams that sparked inside his imagination. He even owns a house that is stuffed to the brim with all the tangible objects of his obsession,...

Back in 2013, Guillermo del Toro revealed that Lucasfilm had approached him about directing the new entry in the Star Wars franchise (which turned out to be Star Wars: The Force Awakens), but he had to pass on it because he was too busy working on other projects. Four years later, he confirmed there had been further talks about him doing something in the Star Wars universe. Now, during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, screenwriter David Goyer (who worked with del Toro on Blade II) said that he and del Toro had been collaborating on a Star Wars project, but it ended up being shelved. Like several other Star Wars projects have been in recent years.

This is why we can't have nice things. Even though Guillermo del Toro has created some of the most indelible movies we've ever seen, there's an even longer list of unmade projects that the famed Mexican filmmaker has been attached to at one point or another over the decades ... but was never able to bring over the finish line. Sadly, most (if not all) of these will never come to fruition, leaving the rest of us to endlessly daydream about the possibilities. Actor Norman Reedus has been in the spotlight for nearly three decades. Reedus began his career on screen in the 1990s, landing his first major film role in Guillermo Del Toro's 1997 film "Mimic." Over the course of the late 1990s and 2000s, Reedus built his résumé, starring in TV shows like "Charmed" and "Law & Order: Svu" and box-office hits like "Blade II" and "American Gangster." By 2010, the actor quickly became a household name for his role as Daryl Dixon in "The Walking Dead," which he appeared in for the show's 11 seasons. Most recently, Reedus is reprising his role as Daryl Dixon in the AMC spinoff series, "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon," set to premiere on Sept. 10.

I'll never forget watching the series premiere of AMC's The Walking Dead with my family on Halloween night back in 2010 (the premiere aired directly after Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake), so it's hard to believe that nearly 13 years later, the entire series is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate. Featuring 54 discs and a 42-minute making-of documentary, The Walking Dead: The Complete Collection will be released on October 17th, and we have a look at the full release details and cover art:

This weekend's major new release in theaters is "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," which has finally made its way to the big screen after spending literal decades stuck in development hell. Unfortunately, it feels a little bit like Universal Pictures isn't giving the big horror flick the push one might expect for a Dracula movie with an A-list cast. But a couple of cinematic icons in the form of Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro are out here spreading the gospel, as they've both had very nice things to say about the film.
King, one of the most prolific authors of our time whose works have inspired movies like "It" and this year's "The Boogeyman," took to Twitter recently to share his thoughts on director André Øvredal's latest. King admitted his skepticism, but the film ended up winning him over. "I was doubtful about 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter,...

Long before I discovered the joys of horror movies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a formative obsession of mine. I often wonder if Tmnt and its variety of imaginative creatures served as a gateway to the genre of sorts. Living up to its title, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has the potential to do the same for a new generation.
Whether you’re a genre veteran interested in revisiting thematically similar offerings or a newcomer looking to branch out into some of Tmnt’s inspirations, here are six horror movies to watch after you see Mutant Mayhem.
1. The Fly
Mutant Mayhem villain Superfly is a fresh spin on the classic Tmnt character Baxter Stockman, who debuted in the original Mirage comics and has appeared in many other iterations since, from animated to live action. As a brilliant but mad scientist turned mutant human-fly hybrid, the character was clearly inspired by The Fly.

While much of the initial fanbase that helped turn Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into a pop culture phenomenon aged out following the original cartoon (1987-1996) and live action movies (1990-1993), the property has continued to flourish with reboots in TV, film, and comics every few years.
If the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has you interested in exploring various versions of Tmnt, there’s no better place for a horror fan to start than Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series that aired for five seasons between 2012 and 2017.
While there’s an inherent connection to horror in the various mutants and monsters that pop up throughout the franchise, no rendition embraces the genre nearly as much as this one. In addition to references to classics like Alien, Friday the 13th, and The Evil Dead, the series employed several notable horror actors throughout its 124-episode run.

“Infinity Pool” actress Mia Goth has joined the cast of Mahershala Ali’s “Blade,” according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Yann Demange, a French-Algerian filmmaker whose previous credits include Jack O’Connell’s “71” and Matthew McConaughey’s “White Boy Rick,” is attached to direct the vampire-killing actioner.
Michael Starrbury, who has penned episodes of Netflix and Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” and “Colin in Black and White,” wrote the latest draft of the screenplay.
Assuming all goes well from here, production will begin in Atlanta in early 2023. While the film will reportedly be darker than a stereotypical Marvel romp, the extent this film will straddle the line between the safely PG-13 MCU entries and New Line Cinema’s original hard-r trilogy with Wesley Snipes remains to be seen.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is finally giving Donnie Yen some immense exposure in the U.S. The martial arts cinema legend is nearing 60 years old and has been in the business since the 80s. He has previously been seen in American productions such as Blade II, Shanghai Knights, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, John Wick is the first time he’s been given a significant supporting character role as Caine, the blind assassin who is tasked to hunt down the titular character. Audiences are pretty unanimous in thinking that Yen steals the movie, and the Ip Man star speaks with Variety on where Caine might go from here.
If you’ve already seen Chapter 4, you’ve witnessed the glory that is Yen. He hasn’t slowed down one iota, which is immensely impressive for a 59-year-old. The film’s director, Chad Stahelski,...

On a chilly Oscars eve, Donnie Yen has just returned from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where he was rehearsing for the Academy Awards along with a slew of fellow global superstar presenters like Spain’s Antonio Banderas and India’s Deepika Padukone. The “John Wick: Chapter 4” scene-stealer, who hails from southern China, feels good about how the following night might unfold, namely for his friend and Hong Kong neighbor Michelle Yeoh. Her victory and that of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” would be a landmark moment for Asian representation, he says.
“I’ve known her for more than 20 years, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here — to support her and share in a possible historical moment,” he says of his “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny” co-star. “And ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ has a lot of Chinese language and it talks about the Chinese heritage,...

With his presence in John Wick: Chapter 4, Donnie Yen is finally getting the English-language, international showcase he’s always deserved. Yen is a huge star in his motherland of China and is about to become a very bright draw for international audiences, finding himself new fans every time he’s seen in an American film. With this new one, he should no longer be “oh I know that guy from somewhere” and be quite well known as the badass that he is. To you get to know his work, here are ten of the best Donnie Yen movies (in no particular order):
Dragon (aka Wu Xia) (2011)
A big part of Yen’s career has been filled with period pieces in which martial arts have an important place (the Wuxia genre). Dragon is no different. Here, Yen plays a family man who is hiding a dark past, when this past catches up with him,...

Donnie Yen is one of the last great martial arts legends still doing his thing. Jackie Chan is currently exploring different types of projects, with a new comedy involving a horse and voicing Splinter in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie Mutant Mayhem, and Jet Li is pretty much retired due to his health issues. However, Donnie is the one of the three who hasn’t truly headlined a film in the American market.
Perhaps this is due to Yen’s mixed experiences working on American films early in his career. As he explained to GQ, “when I did Blade II I had a horrible time, man. Really one of the worst times in my career. Guillermo was a total gentleman. He’s totally cool, and he loves martial arts movies. But the producer walked by me, and wouldn’t even talk to me.” Donnie would work on the...

Soon, two of the biggest and most committed action stars will face off in "John Wick: Chapter 4." Hong Kong martial arts legend Donnie Yen is set to go up against Keanu Reeves' seemingly invincible hitman in a showdown that promises to be a highlight in a movie full of meticulously-crafted action. And despite being nearly 60 years old, Yen is as popular and limber as ever. He's also still passionate about his roles, maintaining a determination to go above and beyond, a trait he's possessed since his days spent working for Hong Kong kung fu director/choreographer Yuen Woo-ping.
The actor, perhaps best known for portraying the titular Wing Chun grandmaster in the "Ip Man" franchise, has always pushed himself. When you're watching Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio," the dazzling stop-motion animation will be what first captures your attention. But the film's sound is what accentuates those pictures. "Pinocchio" is del Toro's first musical and his first animated film, so crafting sounds was extra vital.
I spoke with Scott Martin Gershin, the film's sound designer and supervisor. Gershin has previously designed sound for del Toro's films "Blade II" and "Pacific Rim." His résumé also includes "American Beauty," "Nightcrawler," the mini-series "Mrs. America," and video games such as "Gears of War 2" and "Devil May Cry 5." His work on "Pinocchio" has been shortlisted for a Best Sound nomination at the 95th Academy Awards.
During our conversation, we discussed how Gershin and his team developed signature sounds for each of the film's colorful characters. To do so, they had to look at some unexpected sources. He also discussed his goals for the audience...

His work on "Pinocchio" has been shortlisted for a Best Sound nomination at the 95th Academy Awards.
During our conversation, we discussed how Gershin and his team developed signature sounds for each of the film's colorful characters. To do so, they had to look at some unexpected sources. He also discussed his goals for the audience...

Guillermo del Toro is as busy as ever. His latest movie, a stop-motion animated take on Pinocchio, is set to be released through the Netflix streaming service this Friday. He’s considering making his long-awaited H.P. Lovecraft adaptation At the Mountains of Madness as a stop-motion feature. He’s hoping to produce another season of the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix (if Netflix decides to renew the show). And during an interview with the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, he revealed that he’s currently developing a monster movie… which may end up being his next directing project.
Del Toro said (with thanks to The Playlist for the transcript), “I’m working on a monster movie; I cannot say the title because it may change, and I could end up making something else. But right now, I’m writing and designing. And we have...

20th Century Studios and Disney have entered the television spot phase of their “Avatar: The Way of Water” marketing campaign. With many tentpole promotional campaigns, the shorter, more targeted television spots tend to be less grandiose and more comical than the theatrical trailers. This first TV spot seems to fit the bill, selling not soaring vistas or enchanting fantasy but conflict and action.
The key imagery this time out is that of Jake, Neytiri and the kids reacting with fear, horror and concern as armed humans advance by speedboat to do them harm. The second half of the clip of course shows Jake rallying his tribe(s) to action and promising to make their stand as the Na’vi proceed to team up with the creatures of Pandora to kick righteous ass. Those dudes who get flipper-flipped into the air by a giant whale-type creature probably aren’t going to be in “Avatar 3.

Just under two months after losing original helmer Bassam Tariq, Marvel Studios has hired both a new director and a new screenwriter for its upcoming “Blade” reboot with Mahershala Ali.
Yann Demange, a French-Algerian filmmaker whose previous credits include Jack O’Connell’s “71” and Matthew McConaughey’s “White Boy Rick,” has signed on to direct the vampire-killing actioner. Michael Starrbury, who has penned episodes of Netflix and Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” and “Colin in Black and White,” will write a new screenplay.
While the film has already been pushed from Nov. 6, 2023 to Sept. 6, 2024, Marvel Studios did not rush to find a replacement filmmaker. Sources confirm that Marvel was taking their time to find the right candidate. Assuming all goes well from here, production will begin in Atlanta in early 2023. While the film will reportedly be darker than a stereotypical Marvel romp, the extent this film will straddle...

“Blade” has found a new director. Yann Demange, best known for directing the pilot of HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” and the films “’71” and “White Boy Rick,” has joined the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe vampire film. THR first reported the news. IndieWire has reached out to Marvel representatives.
In addition, Michael Starrbury has been hired to pen a new script for the feature, which stars Mahershala Ali as the Marvel Comics vampire character. Starrbury was nominated for an Emmy in 2019 for his work on Ava DuVernay’s Netflix limited series “When They See Us.”
The news comes after the original director, Bassam Tariq, left the film in September, parting ways with the project just two months before production began in November in Atlanta.
“Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of ‘Blade’ but will remain an executive producer on the film,...

Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy" is indicative of where the filmmaker was at in his career when he made it. Released in 2004, it was the first movie del Toro directed after the financial success of "Blade II" in 2002 but only his third Hollywood project after that film and his 1997 box office flop "Mimic." Because of this, he had yet to gain the creative control he would later come to wield the first time he brought the agents of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense to the big screen.
Perhaps that's why "Hellboy" doesn't feel like an undiluted del Toro joint in the vein of its sequel, 2008's "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Make no mistake, it's an imaginative, director-driven superhero movie, mixing quirky horror with del Toro's soulful monsters and fun nods to the fantasy films of Ray Harryhausen. But at the same time, del Toro's weirdness seems buttoned down.
