HBO’s anthology series “True Detective” is back after five years with a new season that will compete at the 2024 Emmy Awards. This latest installment that premiered in January comes with the subtitle “True Detective: Night Country” and, while still part of the franchise, it’s the first to not have the involvement of creator Nic Pizzolato – other than his executive producer credit. It was instead developed by Issa Lopez who wrote (or co-wrote) and directed all six episodes, and stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as detectives in an Alaskan town investigating the disappearance of eight scientists. Let’s re-examine the three previous seasons of “True Detective” at the Emmys – which garnered a combined total of 22 nominations and five wins – to determine possible nominations in categories for the current season.
Here is the complete Emmys history for the first three seasons of “True Detective”:

When it comes to Ryan Murphy productions, you can always count on a glitzy cast, but the ensemble for Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans are especially so. But how did it all come together? “The process is sort of your map to creating this tapestry,” casting director Alexa L. Fogel tells TV Insider. “Ryan’s really good at casting. I think he’s very good at figuring out which projects he and I are good at doing together, what interests us together, and what kinds of things we excel at. And I think he’s been right every time.” Fogel has previously teamed with Murphy for Pose, The Prom, and The Politician, but this is her first time working on a season of Feud. One of the aspects of Capote Vs. The Swans that particularly appealed to Fogel was the fact that “this is a very East Coast story from a very particular age.

When you think of HBO's classic mid-'00s series "The Wire," it's the characters that come to mind first -- people like McNulty (Dominic West), D'Angelo, Kima (Sonja Sohn), or Stringer Bell (Idris Elba). All of them have their place in the show's vast tapestry, but their stories never feel manufactured or inauthentic. Their major failures and small triumphs echo and clash against those of others, comprising the major drama of the show. And Stringer, the ambitious climber at the top of the show's Barksdale criminal empire, had some of the show's most engaging material. Of course, it helped that he was played by a future movie star.
While you can now see him on the big screen fighting monstrous lions in "Beast" or playing a romantic Djinn in a George Miller film, Idris Elba's work in "The Wire" some 20 years earlier was much more low-key. Stringer is nothing like the typical fantasy gangster.

This story about Chris Mundy and his series “Ozark” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Drama issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
After four seasons of weaving and bobbing their way through money laundering, evading the watchful eye of the FBI and keeping a scary Mexican drug cartel’s deadlier impulses at bay — all while maintaining a dinner-on-the-table nuclear family unit — the Byrde family (led by Emmy nominees Jason Bateman and Laura Linney) finally seemed ready fly the coop in style in the final season of “Ozark.” Or did they? In a recent interview, showrunner Chris Mundy (who is also nominated for best drama and writing) explained. (Spoilers within!)

Life is a series of trials and errors — where, if you’re lucky, you can follow your passions from one interest to the next until you’ve amassed a wealth of experiences. Dennis Lehane, an award-winning novelist, playwright, producer, and screenwriter, has done just that, carving out an enviable career across a wide swath of the entertainment industry. His novels have been adapted into movies; his movies have gone on to critical acclaim; his TV work elevated some of this century’s best shows.
But for years, the next item on Lehane’s to-do list was showrunning. The writer behind episodes of “The Wire” and “Boardwalk Empire” had tried, multiple times, to develop and run his own series, but greater forces kept his dream at a distance.
Now, with the Apple TV+ six-part limited series “Black Bird,” Lehane can add that key credit to his resume — and better yet, even as a first-time showrunner,...

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” was the big winner on the opening night of the 2021 BAFTA Film Awards, taking home two golden masks from a possible two.
Night 1, hosted virtually by radio and TV presenter Clara Amfo, was a mostly craft-centered affair which also yielded wins for “Mank,” “Tenet” and “Sound of Metal.”
The first show was originally scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. local time, but according to sources the BBC made a late decision to push the broadcast by an hour. Amfo opened the show by reading a tribute to Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, who died Friday at the age of 99.
“On behalf of BAFTA, we are extremely saddened by the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on Friday. The Duke was BAFTA’s very first president over 60 years ago and was the first of a line of royal patronage all...

From HBO’s evolution into the home of appointment Sunday night television, and through the rise of basic cable and streaming originals feeding a newfound demand for adventurous niche series, there is one casting director whose extraordinary career is playing a vital role in shaping Peak TV. In 1997, after Alexa Fogel cut her teeth in the casting department of Steven Bochco and David Milch’s “NYPD Blue” — bringing gritty realism and censor-defying characters to a police procedural — she was a natural fit for Tom Fontana’s “Oz,” an empathetic, brutally unvarnished look at the American prison system, which opened the door for another realistic view of America’s systemic approach to the war on drugs, “The Wire.” Both series upended what kinds of stories could be told on TV, forever changing the course of HBO, and neither would have worked without the incredible and, at the time, unique ensembles Fogel gathered.

David Corenswet studied acting at Juilliard, but not even the most meticulous research into the history of showbiz could prepare him for Netflix’s “Hollywood.” Ryan Murphy’s miniseries is set in the 1940s golden age of moviemaking, pulling back the curtain on the repressed desires of the executives and stars who ruled Tinseltown.
But it is done with some major liberties. On the show, Corenswet plays Jack Castello, a World War II veteran who dreams of making it big on screen. While the character is not based on a real actor, he’s a composite — borrowing from James Dean and Montgomery Clift, among others. As the series opens, Castello is a gas station attendant who moonlights as a male gigolo (a story line plucked from the 2012 memoir “Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Lives of the Stars” by Scotty Bowers). ‘The Deuce’ Showrunner David Simon Tells Jack Dorsey To “Drop Dead” In Wake Of Twitter Lockout – Atx
David Simon and his producing partner Nina K. Noble are known for groundbreaking dramas that shed light on institutional dysfunction and pressing social issues in very different areas of the country. That being said, he has some opinions about the Donald Trump administration.

At the Atx Television Festival, Simon had some choice words for Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. During a panel titled “Politically Minded” he was joined by The Good Fight creators Robert King and Michelle King and he did not mince words about his temporary ban.
