This list is not what I deem are the best Japanese films, so much as the ones that have stayed with me or films that I want to share with others.

My first Shunji Iwai film was "All About Lily Chou Chou". I saw it recommended several times online, so I gave it a go. Despite the assumptions that come with the film's title, this is a touching and intriguing character study. I try to see more independent films from around the world to get an impression of less-mainstream filmmaking internationally. Not necessarily a favourite film, but one of the ones I have seen recently that has stuck with me. Hard to find, but if you have a chance to see it, I recommend it.
