Macbeth will begin performances on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, with an official opening on Thursday, April 28, 2022.

Spike Jonze’s philosophical sci-fi love story Her, and Billy Ray’s harrowing true-life hostage saga Captain Phillips earned best original and adapted screenplays, respectively, from the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday.
In the original category, Her was facing its four rivals for the Oscar: American Hustle, Blue Jasmine, Dallas Buyers Club, and Nebraska, so its victory can be seen as a strong harbinger of where the Academy Award could go on March 2. In anecdotal sampling of Academy members, EW’s Prize Fighter has also determined that Her is far and away the front-runner for this category.

Tonight, the Writers Guild of America presented their awards for excellence in film and television for 2013. All eyes were on their top two categories, Original Screenplay and Adapted Screenplay, and while the former went to Spike Jonze’s incredible Her as expected, the latter went to Billy Ray’s Captain Phillips, which was completely out of the blue.
Her was widely expected to win due to its immense popularity throughout awards season, taking 20 screenplay wins from groups such as the HFPA and Bfca. However, Captain Phillips was a complete surprise given that it had not managed to win a single screenplay award prior to tonight, but as I’ve said before, it was going to be hard to tell which nominee was the favorite given the fact that the disqualified 12 Years a Slave has been the clear frontrunner throughout the season. Science fiction is a genre that is ripe with storytelling possibilities. One avenue that has established itself over the years has been the examination of technology advancement, and the downsides it can have. It is in this category that the latest science fiction show falls into. Titled Helix, the show comes from Syfy, and made its series debut with two episodes that open up a lot of potentially compelling avenues for the show to go down in its first season.
Dr. Walker’s presence in the facility is an intriguing aspect of the show, particularly in light of Dr. Ataki’s fascination with her. While she is clearly a skilled scientist,...

Chicago — Before he became a famous TV star on "Friends," actor and director David Schwimmer helped start a theater company in Chicago with a group of his Northwestern University classmates.
Twenty-five years later, Lookingglass Theatre Company has gone from producing small storefront productions to a Tony Award-winning player in the city's arts community. And Schwimmer has returned to direct the company's summer offering, a crime comedy called "Big Lake, Big City" written by Keith Huff of TV's "Mad Men" and Broadway's "A Steady Rain."
Chicago is where Schwimmer comes to be creative.
"For me, it is my artistic home because of the company ... more so than anywhere," Schwimmer said, wearing a baseball cap and eating sushi during his dinner break while working on "Big Lake, Big City," which runs through Aug. 25.

Hugh Jackman Conjures Up Broadway Return In Aaron Sorkin-Penned Musical ‘Houdini’ For 2013-14 Season
Breaking: Hugh Jackman has sealed his return to Broadway for the 2013-2014 season in Houdini, which marks the librettist debut of Aaron Sorkin, with music by Stephen Schwartz. Jack O’Brien has been set to direct the production, which will be presented by producer Scott Sanders and David Rockwell, the latter of whom will design the sets. The musical has been long in the works — at one time Danny Elfman was working on the music — and the creatives say they’ve now got a version that will bring an original and contemporary feel to the life and death of America’s first superstar. Jackman, whose Broadway turns include the musical The Boy From Oz and a run of the Keith Huff play A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig, most recently finished a sold-out run of Hugh Jackman: Back On Broadway. Jackman’s about to start the movie musical Les Miserables,...

In late 2009, the Broadway production A Steady Rain, written by Keith Huff and starring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, was released and played for twelve weeks to a great reception. Now, Jackman says that Steven Spielberg is interested in bringing the story to movie theaters.
The synopsis, courtesy of ComingSoon:
“A Steady Rain focuses on two Chicago policemen who inadvertently return a Vietnamese boy to a cannibalistic serial killer who claims to be the child’s uncle. When he later becomes the man’s latest victim, the lifelong friendship of the two men is threatened when it becomes clear someone must bear responsibility for their egregious failure to assess the situation accurately.”
Not only is the plot is very intriguing, but the Chicago setting could lend itself to some beautiful cinematography. Craig and Jackman have yet to confirm whether or not they will be reprising their roles, but they were...

Hugh Jackman announced today that Steven Spielberg is considering adapting A Steady Rain, the Broadway play written by Keith Huff into a film, according to Comingsoon. The play starred Jackman and Daniel Craig and ran on Broadway for 12 weeks.
Here is a description of the play:
"A Steady Rain" focuses on two Chicago policemen who inadvertently return a Vietnamese boy to a cannibalistic serial killer who claims to be the child's uncle. When he later becomes the man's latest victim, the lifelong friendship of the two men is threatened when it becomes clear someone must bear responsibility for their egregious failure to assess the situation accurately."
The project reportedly already has a writer on board and it's assumed that Spielberg will have both Jackman and Craig star in the film version. I am not familiar with this play, but am a huge fan of Spielberg, Craig and Jackman. What are your thoughts on this news?...

Steven Spielberg is reportedly looking at adapting Keith Huff's Broadway play "A Steady Rain" into a film reports ComingSoon.net.

Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig played the roles on stage for 12 weeks and it's likely they would reprise the parts for the film adaptation. Jackman let slip the news today at Comic Con and claims a writer is on board. No word in what capacity Spielberg himself would serve (ie. producer only, director, etc.).

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

It was only a matter of time before Peggy Olson found the counter-culture. Or, one supposes, the counter-culture of the mid-1960s found Peggy Olson. Rejection seemed to be on the minds of everyone in this week's "swell-egant" episode of Mad Men ("The Rejected"), written by Keith Huff and Matthew Weiner and directed by John Slattery, which revolved around the generational gap and in the transition of old ideas to new ones. Is it that young women want to find themselves beautiful, to partake in rituals of feminine beauty, or is that they're only looking to snag a husband? Is matrimony the expected outcome of any encounter? The rejections experienced weren't just romantic ones--though they threaded through this week's installment--but also intellectual ones, that Peggy could chose to align herself not with the aged men in the lobby of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce but with the vibrancy of youth, with a generation of forward-thinking individuals--artists,...

Chicago – Chicago Dramatists’ playwright Will Cooper isn’t interested in the simple answers. Rather, his new production, “Jade Heart”, has every intention to ask the hard-hitting questions of racial identity in a post-melting pot America, a topic as potentially layered as it is controversial. Having previously penned Book of Leaves, Cooper caught up with Hollywood Chicago to discuss the process of curating new stories, the importance of the fresh literary voice, and how he hopes Jade Heart will start to tackle the uglier- but ultimately more fulfilling- truths of identity.

Jess Platt refers to them as "da boys." He's speaking about Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig, who raked in mucho money on Broadway earlier this season in a limited run of "A Steady Rain," for which the Brooklyn-born, Los Angeles–based Platt served as dialect coach. Having worked with Jackman on several movies, Platt was requested by the sometime Wolverine to help him and the sometime James Bond master Chicago accents for the Second City cops they played in Keith Huff's drama. So here was Platt—who admits, "I'm not cheap"—assigned to make an Englishman and an Australian sound like geographically specific Middle Americans. And note that his technique is applicable to any situation in which an actor from one place must acquire the sounds of a distinctive other place. As Platt says, "There is no such thing as not having an accent. Everybody has an accent."Platt,...

A stellar week of previews for Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig's new Broadway show has failed to sway theatre critics - they have dubbed the pair's performances in A Steady Rain "clunky".
Jackman and Craig co-star in the production as police officers in Chicago, Illinois who have been friends since childhood.
The pair helped set a record for the highest weekly ticket sales of a non-musical play, with the show taking $1,167,954 (£778,636) during a week of preview performances.
But New York's notoriously tough theatre critics weren't so kind, following a star-studded premiere on Tuesday night, attended by Jerry Seinfeld, Matthew Broderick, Jeff Goldblum, Woody Harrelson, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber.
A reviewer from the New York Times summarises: "A Steady Rain... is probably best regarded as a small, wobbly pedestal on which two gods of the screen may stand in order to be worshipped."
Other critics praised the pair's performances but suggested the play, written by Keith Huff and produced by James Bond boss Barbara Broccoli, was an awkward choice for the duo.
A critic from the New York Post writes, "Jackman is vastly appealing, as usual, but he's also miscast... (and) not entirely convincing as a troublemaker with an appetite for self-destruction. (Craig) fares better and single-handedly lifts up the show... Craig and Jackman were clearly eager to appear onstage together. Too bad they picked a clunky squad car for a vehicle."
Craig and Jackman's limited run ends on 6 December.
