21st February 2024 from the ‘Dark & Twisted’ Imprint
The Barren Highways of the American West Become a Place of Terror
and Violence in a No-Holds-Barred Tale Not for the Squeamish

Written by Cullen Bunn and Heath Amodio, with artwork by Andrea Mutti (pencils), Gigi Baldassini (inks) and Valerio Alloro (colors), Long Haul is a sinister and violent tale of revenge rooted in the terrifying fact that there are more than 700 missing people along America’s interstate highways—hunted, taken and often killed by active serial killers.
Long Haul is available 21st February 2024, through direct sales, including at www.

If there’s a filmmaker whose legacy is synonymous with horror, it’s John Carpenter who created some of the most enduring horror movies in American cinema, with classics like Halloween, The Thing, and The Fog. Joining Carpenter is producer and writer Sandy King Carpenter, John’s wife, who has produced fan-favorite horror flicks In the Mouth of Madness, Village of the Damned, and Vampires. Sandy King and John Carpenter launched Storm King Comics through their production company Storm King Productions. The comic book publishing division has released a growing line of horror titles since 2012.
Featuring a whole roster of acclaimed writers and artists, Storm King Comics boasts several award-winning comic book titles, including the long-running anthology series John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight. Storm King Comics line publishes titles ranging from the decidedly macabre and mature to all-age friendly, such as young reader-oriented title John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids.

The times we live in are terrifying enough, so creators of horror stories across different media have a challenge to out-scare the headlines. Storm King Comics founder and horror legend Sandy King Carpenter will lead a panel discussion about the topic as part of New York Comic-Con, the comics publisher announced today.
In addition, King Carpenter will hold a special hourlong exploration of the origins, impact and future of Storm King Comics as the publishing house celebrates its first 10 years, sharing insight into her work with longtime partner and iconic horror director John Carpenter.
On Thursday, 12th October 2023 King Carpenter will host Creating Modern Horror: Scaring People in Scary Times (12:15 p.m., Room 406.1), joined by artist Cat Staggs and author Amanda Deibert, both of whom collaborated with King on Death Mask, the first graphic novel from Storm King’s “Dark & Twisted” imprint. Geralyn Marie Betzler worked on several movies throughout the ’80s and ’90s. On her first feature, 1985’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, she was credited by her full birth name, but as her screen acting career went on she would take credit as either Geri Betzler or Zoe Trilling – and it’s that second name that most fans seem to know her by. Among her credits are episodes of Guiding Light, 21 Jump Street, and Married… with Children, and the films Amityville Horror: The Evil Escapes, They Came from Outer Space, The Borrower, Dr. Giggles, Night Terrors, Hellbound, and Leprechaun 3 – but her most popular role may be in the 1994 horror comedy Night of the Demons 2, where she stole the show as bad girl Shirley Finnerty. Sadly, just as Night of the Demons 2 is reaching Blu-ray courtesy of Scream Factory, it has been confirmed that Betzler / Trilling passed away...

Happy #RobertEnglundDay!
About one third of the 150+ acting credits accumulated over the course of Robert Englund’s 50-year career fall under the horror genre. Screambox is streaming five of them, along with the all-new documentary, Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story.
Here are six Robert Englund movies you can watch on Screambox now…
Galaxy of Terror
Before moving to Elm Street, Englund went to space for 1981’s Galaxy of Terror, the first of two back-to-back Alien knock-offs produced by Roger Corman. The film follows a ragtag spaceship crew on a rescue mission to a barren planet, where they encounter a deadly creature. In a slight twist on Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror classic, Galaxy of Terror uses its victims’ own fears against them — which, incidentally, is similar to Freddy’s modus operandi.

Storm King Comics is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and Daily Dead reports that a brand new terror tale is on the way from the John Carpenter’s Night Terrors line.
The next volume in the anthology horror series is titled Usher Down, said to be a “chilling ghost story that’s set in perhaps history’s most fabled haunted house.”
John Carpenter’s Night Terrors: Usher Down is written by Jason Henderson and illustrated by Greg Scott, with colors by Felipe Sobreiro and letters by Ed Dukeshire.
In the seventh story from the Night Terrors series, “A young psychic joins a government expedition to explore the most legendary haunted house of all time, the fabled House of Usher. The house is real, frozen in time below ground-but what the explorers find there is demonic, alive, and may well have called them for its own dark purposes.”

Well, that was not the ending I expected for Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 Episode 4.
Up until the "we're-all-stranded-on-a-telepathic-planet-that-wants-to-eat-us" moment, it was a pretty fabulous romp for the fledgling crew.
Of course, leaving Gwyn unguarded is never a good idea, and I don't think they'll make that mistake again. If they get the chance to make it again, that is.
I have to wonder if the creators may feel hampered by the half-hour format they've chosen for the show.
Yes, it's a kids' show, and a half-hour would, logically, be the longest you'd expect most 7-12-year-olds to be able to sustain their attention, but the narratives the show looks to tell are so much bigger than can be told effectively in thirty minutes.
To be fair, this is a bit of a throwback to the multi-part episodes of my childhood where animated adventures often ended with the dreaded "To Be Continued.

When you think of horror movie icons, a few names come to mind. Jason, Michael Myers and Jigsaw are just a few. But perhaps the best of all of them is Freddy Krueger. He certainly has more personality than all of the other killers I just mentioned and he might just be the most iconic, too. Of course, the man responsible for Krueger’s lasting legacy is Robert Englund, who’s played the role eight times, and today he’s celebrating his 73rd birthday.
The actor has a special relationship with horror and it goes all the way back to when he was a child, with Englund once saying:
“When I was 9, I went to a birthday party. We were supposed to see a cowboy movie, but the programming got screwed up and we saw The Bad Seed instead. Horrifying. For years I was frightened of girls with pigtails.”

Director Daniel Mark Young, whom you may remember for the horror shorts Stranger, Night Terrors, and Run, is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to complete his latest ambitious project, the werewolf short Werehouse. Like most of Young’s films, it will be penned by his frequent writing partner James Craigie. As its name suggests, Werehouse will […]

Unfortunately, none are on Netflix. But they can be found elsewhere. Where you can watch Night Terrors? How about Eggshells, the early Tobe Hooper film that predates even The Texas Chain Saw Massacre? In the wake of Hooper’s passing over the weekend, the horror community has been mourning the loss of another legend by revisiting his […]...

It's with a heavy heart that I have to tell you director Tobe Hooper has passed away at the age of 74. Hooper was a pioneer in the horror genre and started his career directing a little film called The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That movie was one of the most disturbing and terrifying horror movies that I saw when I was growing up. I remember the first time I watched the movie on an old VHS tape at a friends house when I was about 13-years old. I'll never forget that night because all of us were too scared to go to sleep! In my mind, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the truly great horror films in cinema.
Poltergeist was another classic horror film that he is credited for directing. We all know Steven Spielberg played a heavy role in helping direct the film, but Hooper was the acting...

As the summer continues to roll on, that means we have another great week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases to look forward to. The folks at Scream Factory are keeping themselves plenty busy this Tuesday, as they’re resurrecting both The Lawnmower Man and Island of Terror on Blu-ray, as well as their high-def The Paul Naschy Collection, and Arrow Video has put together an incredible two-disc limited Blu-ray set of Dario Argento’s directorial debut, The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, that any fan of the Master of Horror will want to add to their collections. And, if you missed it in theaters, the horror/sci-fi thriller Life will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats, too.
Other notable releases for June 20th include the Hack-o-Lantern limited edition Blu-ray, Patchwork, Under the Dome: The Complete Series, Ten Little Indians,...

Doctor Who series 10 strikes gold with Knock Knock - and there were some interesting references in it, too...
This article contains lots of spoilers for Doctor Who.
See related Power Rangers, boob armour, and impractical costumes
Knock, Knock is a real treat - a spooky, atmospheric tale with an emotional core and some brilliant guest performances. And in a sense it’s a real treat for this writer too, as it’s one of those Doctor Who episodes that’s so fresh and unlike anything the series has done before in its 54-year history (intentionally or otherwise) that this article is significantly shorter than usual; we hope that’s okay. But as ever, if you think you’ve spotted something we’ve missed, please do leave it in the comments below...

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I can often spend hours upon hours trawling through iTunes looking for new movies to buy… Usually I’ll randomly come across a title I haven’t seen in years and use the “Cast & Crew” links to make my way down the rabbit hole to the more obscure side of Apple’s digital movie service.
Now whilst many will decry that iTunes is a terrible VOD service due to Apple’s desire to lock its audience to their platforms, if you have an Apple TV or iPad be aware – there are some truly obscure films hidden away in the depths of the vast collection of movies. Some of which have been made available in the UK for the first time since VHS and a Lot that have been added to the service in their original uncut form!

Directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch aren’t just successful horror filmmakers and best friends—they’re dog lovers, too. They’ll be putting their mouths where your money is for a live, three-day podcast to raise money for a dog rescue that’s near and dear to the heart of The Movie Crypt, the successful podcast Green and Lynch co-host weekly on GeekNation.
No lineup or list of guests have been made official yet, but The Movie Crypt has played host to countless actors, directors, and writers from the horror community since it launched in 2013, from Sid Haig and Kane Hodder, to Danielle Harris and Mick Garris, to Joe Dante and Leigh Whannell, to James Gunn and on and on and on. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these friends of the podcast stop by the “Save the Yorkies” marathon, which will raise money for Save a Yorkie Resuce,...

Like a lot of folks, my movie watching is heading more towards a digital future rather than a physical one – and that’s despite my love of Blu-ray and all the cult movies the format has brought us thanks to the likes of Olive Films, Kino Lorber/Scorpion Releasing, Scream Factory, Vinegar Syndrome et al.
Whilst many will decry abandoning discs for digital files there are some bonuses, especially for genre fans here in the UK. The advent of iTunes has brought with it, in a lot of cases, a dropping of the borders. Movies are hitting Apple’s stores that haven’t seen the light of day since the VHS era – there’s even some films available digitally that have never previously been made available to rent or buy on these shores. Ever.

Barclay! Super-brains! Walks around the arboretum! Here's our latest look-back at Star Trek: The Next Generation season four...
This review contains spoilers.
4.19 Nth Degree
The episode opens as Lt. Reg Barclay and Dr. Crusher perform some AmDram in front of the crew, whose enlightened 24th Century dispositions allow them to appreciate even the most stilted and awkward performance. And that’s just from the D-list ensigns they have to shove into every episode now that Wesley’s gone. Everyone congratulates Barclay’s progress even though he’s terrible, and Data even learns a pithy lesson about being polite (and with that box ticked, he basically disappears for the rest of the episode.)
Barclay still isn’t feeling confident, but is happy when Geordi picks him to go on a mission to examine a probe that has disabled the Argus Array, a subspace telescope that has been disabled and needs to be fixed.

Another Enterprise B-lister is in the spotlight in this week's Tng look-back as La Forge begins to transform...
This review contains spoilers.
4.18 Identity Crisis
In the observation lounge, Picard, Riker and La Forge are sitting around watching La Forge’s old away missions as presented by his former crewmate, Susanna Leijten. The mission involved investigating the disappearance of 49 colleagues, and while they ultimately came up short (probably because they didn’t have a telepath or a robot on their team) the other members of the away mission have themselves disappeared. Spooky!
Tracking one of the team members who stole a shuttle after deserting her post, the Enterprise find the ship but watch helplessly as it burns up in the atmosphere of the planet Geordi’s team originally investigated. Well, you can’t save everyone. Apparently.
On the surface they find two more stolen shuttles and a bunch of torn starfleet uniforms.

This article contains lots and lots of spoilers for Before The Flood.
The Doctor and his friends may have gone back to before the flood in this episode, but even the 1980s aren’t safe from echoes of the past; if anything, there’s more of them there, on account of it being the past. So here are our geeky viewing notes for this week’s episode...

The Doctor seemingly opens the episode by addressing the audience. There have been a handful of occasions in the past on which the Doctor speaks straight into the camera and could possibly be talking to the viewers - Tom Baker’s glib “Even the sonic screwdriver won’t get me out of this one” in The Invasion Of Time,...

James' weekly Star Trek: Tng look-backs reach Night Terrors, feat. Deanna Troi in a series of unconvincing dream sequences...
This review contains spoilers.
4.17 Night Terrors
The Enterprise encounters the Brattain, a small Starfleet science vessel which went missing a few weeks ago adrift in orbit around a binary star. Upon entering the ship, they find that everyone on board is dead, many of them having managed to die right at their stations. Although they’re clearly freaked out by this grim parody of their day-to-day lives, the Enterprise’s crew manages to find one crew member alive: a catatonic Betazoid named Hagan.
Back on the Enterprise, things start to get a bit twitchy. Troi spends a lot of time trying to speak to Hagan telepathically, but he’s just repeating nonsense words. The Enterprise’s top nerds try to figure out why the Brattain’s engines don’t work, but can’t.

Night Terrors Film Festival is a new genre festival opening up in Denmark and celebrating its first event in February 2016 - it is for short films; horror, thriller, supernatural, absurd - anything you can think of! Yes, comedies and dramas are welcome too, as long as it can somehow be justified to fit into the theme. Films selected will have two screenings each, one in Denmarks capital Copenhagen and one in the second biggest city, Aarhus, the following day. It is a great opportunity to have your short films screened for a Scandinavian audience that might not have other ways to experience your work. Do you like horror movies but hate the fact that they're just movies aren't interactive enough? And do you like horror games, but are annoyed by the fact that they don't take place in your own house? Well, congratulations there's something on the way that can solve both of your oddly specific, and very first-world-y problems. It's called Night Terrors and it promises to turn your own house into an interactive horror movie. Here's the basic gist of it. You wait for night fall, strap on a pair of headphones, turn off all the lights, and open up Night Terrors on your phone. The game uses the camera to make a map of your entire house, and then it uses augmented reality to insert things into your house. It can make virtual copies of the paintings you have on...

From the Queen Vic to the Tardis. As Eastenders prepares to mark its 30th anniversary, we look back at its encounters with Doctor Who...
Back in the mid-eighties an actor who played "Third Assistant" in a Doctor Who story called The Savages (1966) and the director of another Doctor Who adventure, The Underwater Menace (1967), came together to create one of the BBC’s most successful television shows.
And when they got together, it was murder. Well, not quite. (Though the first episode did feature a victim who would later die, fact fans.) But what they did create was Eastenders.
Broadcast on February the 19th 1985 (in between episodes one and two of The Two Doctors), this creation of Who alumni would go on to share numerous links with the long-running science-fiction for years to come. Even its time-slot owes much to the adventures of everyone’s favourite Gallifreyan.
