Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Silver Scream Con returned to the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Massachusetts on September 8-10 — ’cause let’s face it, baby, these days you gotta have a sequel!
Created by horror-inspired metalcore band Ice Nine Kills, Silver Scream Con has quickly established itself as a top-tier horror convention among celebrity guests and attendees alike. “Everybody’s been really nice, and I’m enjoying myself immensely,” said Tommy Lee Wallace, who created Michael Myers’ iconic mask for the original Halloween before going on to direct Halloween III: Season of the Witch. “I hope everyone gets the shit scared out of them!”
Not even severe thunderstorm alerts could stop the rabid fans, who traveled not just from all over North America but as far as Finland, Scotland, and England to attend. Ticket sales reportedly doubled from the previous year’s already-commendable showing,...

Ice Nine Kills & Z2 Return For More Meta Carnage in New Graphic Novel Sequel, Inked in Blood II: Once Upon A Crime: "New York City—Z2 is proud to announce Ice Nine Kills—Inked in Blood II: Once Upon A Crime, the sequel to last year’s slasher thriller. Rock and Shock served as New England’s premier horror convention for 16 wonderful years before its reign came to an unexpected end in 2019. While several other events admirably attempted to occupy the void left in the local horror community, none were quite able to fill Rock and Shock’s sizeable shoes.
If its debut is any indication, Silver Scream Con is, at long last, a worthy successor to the throne. Created by Massachusetts’ own horror-inspired metal band Ice Nine Kills, the first ever Silver Scream Con took place August 26-28 at the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Ma.
Rock and Shock catered to the intersection of music and horror, but with Ice Nine Kills’ rabid cult following behind it, Silver Scream Con brought in a new audience beyond die-hard genre fans. Informal polls conducted before each panel consistently showed that more than half of the attendees were at their first horror convention.

"The Dark Knight Rises" netted $160 million in its opening weekend — a strong showing indeed, but one that was certainly impacted by the tragic shooting of more than 70 moviegoers at an Aurora, Colorado theater last Friday. Box office experts are now predicting that "Rises" will earn at least $60 million in its second weekend in the wake of last week's horrific events, but even then, however, the future is uncertain.
"Theatrical exhibition has never witnessed a tragedy like this inside a movie theater, so it is extremely difficult to gauge the ramifications of this nightmare scenario," Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, told MTV News' Ryan J. Downey. "This was mindless violence at its worst. One thing is for certain: Families will be much more cautious about bringing their brood to the theaters [for a while]. Warner Bros. released two brand new clips from "The Dark Knight Rises" on Wednesday (just in time for Comic-Con!) and in one of them, we get a fuller picture of Hathaway's portrayal of Catwoman's alter-ego, Selina Kyle, whose charming menace (or menacing charm?) is on display as she (literally) dances with Bruce Wayne. It's that bit of dialog full of that Occupy Wall Street vibe many detected from previously seen footage.

It's a Comic-Con rite of passage to wander the convention hallways, mouth agape, trying to take in the vast array of characters on display. But we're not talking about those on the printed pages, the heroes configured as plastic poseables or the associated celebs and filmmakers. Those are cool, but we're talking about the fans who take their devotion to its highest level: Cosplay.
San Diego Comic-Con is nothing without the constant flow of eye candy, as folks wearing costumes of various degrees of quality (and obscurity) from all the realms of pop culture intermingle freely and giddily all week.
Where else can you see "Halo"'s Master Chief, a zombie and two Clone Troopers from Jedi General Plo Koon's "Wolfpack Squadron" all posing together at the same time? Don't worry, if you're not at Comic-Con this year, MTV's cameras have you covered. Heck, even if...

It's a bird, it's a plane… It's Henry Cavill at Comic-Con!
Superman himself will pay a surprise visit to Hall H alongside his "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder on Saturday (July 14), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. had previously announced that the "Watchmen" director would be on-hand to unveil footage from his big-budget reboot of the DC Universe's most well known character. But there was no mention of Cavill, who will don the red and blue in "Man of Steel," due in theaters next year.
"Henry Cavill was actually the first one we physically tested on film," Synder recently said in an interview. "We actually tested him in the Christopher Reeve Superman suit. And that was a big deal. That’s a hard suit to pull off." The "Man of Steel" panel will presumably offer an extremely anticipated first look at Cavill in...

Stephen Daldry's last big movie included New York City as a central part of its story. Now the "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" director is in talks to direct the big screen version of one of the biggest musicals to rock Broadway in recent memory. According to Deadline, Universal wants the English filmmaker to helm the movie adaptation of "Wicked," the "Wizard of Oz" prequel that began as a book before it exploded as a top-grossing musical.
Gregory Maguire's "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" fills in the blanks about the titular "Oz" villain's backstory. The Broadway musical averages $1.4 million per week. Universal was also responsible for the big-screen version of the Broadway hit "Mamma Mia!."

Superheroes take on many forms at San Diego Comic Con, from the printed page, to the costumed masses, to the actors who've donned capes and cowls on screens big and small. No Sdcc would be complete without these heroes plastic counterparts. Our buddies at MTV Geek sifted through the variety of exclusive figures making their multiple-points-of-articulation-fueled debuts this year and came up with a list of the 10 Best.
Last year was all about Mattel's delicious looking Stay Puft and a Swamp Thing so killer it could even make Alan Moore crack a smile.
So which exclusive figures will be emptying MTV's wallets this year? MTV Geek's list includes a certain winged mutant corrupted by the villainous Apocalypse; a chainsaw wielding hero with a very well defined chin; a certain caped crusader and his most well-known nemesis; a hero in a half shell whose origin story hasn't...

Film becomes 13th consecutive Pixar film to debut at #1.

There's nothing unlucky about the number 13 for Disney/Pixar. Over the weekend, "Brave" became the 13th consecutive film from the animation unit behind "Toy Story" and "Wall-e" to debut at #1. The animated archery adventure hit a box-office bull's-eye to the tune of $66.7 million, according to estimates. And cartoons dominated the weekend box office as DreamWorks' "Madagascar 3" landed at #2.Unfortunately for Fox, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" was not so lucky. The $69 million-budget historical/ fantasy mash-up opened at #3 with just $16.5 million.
"Brave" opened stronger than last year's "Cars 2," which bears the distinction of being the only Pixar film with a "rotten" critical average on Rotten Tomatoes. While reviews for "Brave" weren't as overwhelmingly enthusiastic as those for flicks like "Toy Story 3" and "Wall-e," the studio's latest still boasts a 74 percent score on the film-review-aggregator site.

Experts predict animated film will hit #1 just as all 12 previous Pixar films have done.

By most accounts, "Brave" is expected to hit a box-office bull's-eye this weekend.Industry watchers have predicted the latest from Disney/Pixar will continue the studio's tradition of claiming the top spot. All 12 previous Pixar films hit #1 in wide release. The 3-D animated story of a free-spirited Scottish princess possessed of major bow-and-arrow prowess is set to debut in an estimated 4,000 locations. "The goodwill people feel for Pixar gets it to $62 million this weekend, even in the face of middling reviews," IMDb's Keith Simanton told MTV News.
Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, and HitFix.com co-founder/ editor in chief Gregory Ellwood predicted an opening in the $60 million range for "Brave" as well, although NextMovie.com editor Kevin Polowy put the movie's bow closer to $50 million.

Animated ensemble beats out '80s metal flick 'Rock of Ages' and 'That's My Boy.'

'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted'

Neither nostalgia for '80s hair metal nor a team-up of former "SNL" castmembers could overcome a bunch of homesick zoo animals at the box office over the weekend."Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" was the #1 movie in America for a second weekend in a row, as families celebrated Father's Day with the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schwimmer to the tune of another $35.5 million. But both of the weekend's big new studio pics, "Rock of Ages" and "That's My Boy," underperformed, leaving the #2 slot for "Prometheus" to claim for a second consecutive week. The (sort of) "Alien" prequel took in another $20.2 million.
