Warner Bros. Pictures dropped the official red band trailer for the film “House Party,” a raunchy, genre-bending comedy adventure co-produced by basketball legend LeBron James.
Starring actors Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole, the trailer gives glimpses at some of the hilarity and mayhem to come in the upcoming release, including a scene where the duo find themselves in James’ house, talking to a hologram the athlete created to shower him in words of affirmation.
“He got a hologram of himself, just to give him compliments?” Latimore quips in the trailer.
The feature is a remake of a 1990 comedy by the same title, though the plot has been adapted for a new, modern audience. As opposed to the two leads being high-schoolers in search of a fun night, Latimore and Cole play two aspiring club promoters who decide to host a massive party to distract from their financial troubles after being...

Karen Westerfield has been elected business representative of Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild, IATSE Local 706, becoming the first woman — and the first Asian-American — to hold the guild’s top post since it was chartered in 1937. She previously served as the guild’s vice president, recording-secretary and sergeant-at-arms.
Westerfield, a three-time Emmy-winning makeup effects artist who worked for 12 years on the Star Trek TV franchise, defeated incumbent Randy Sayer by a vote of 422-349. More than a third of the guild’s 2,215 eligible members cast ballots in the race. Financial reports filed with the Department of Labor show that Sayer was paid 247,313 last year.
The election was a rerun of one held in January, when the guild’s elections committee found that the ballots had not been secured properly before counting. In that race, Sayer beat Westerfield by just 18 votes. All of the guild’s other officer, board and trustee races also were run again.

IATSE president Matthew Loeb and the presidents 13 Hollywood locals, saying that “now is the time to change the culture of our work places,” issued a joint statement Tuesday urging members to authorize a nationwide strike against film and TV production companies.
The union leaders said that the strike-authorization vote, which will be held October 1-3, “will empower our negotiators to secure a fair deal.”
“We each have witnessed first-hand the physical and emotional suffering our members and their loved ones endure as a result of punishing and unrealistic schedules, and lack of rest or meal breaks,” they said. “We have repeatedly seen the economic impact of inadequate rates for members who do not make a living wage, and the discounted ‘New Media’ pay rates that subsidize mature and profitable streaming businesses.

As Hollywood commits to featuring more Black actors on camera, another question arises: What is being done about the support staff around them — and particularly in the hair and makeup trailers?
When “The Bold Type” star Aisha Dee posted a letter on Instagram on July 15 detailing her experience as a biracial woman in Hollywood — using the moment to “demand better and more authentic representation both in-front-of and behind the camera” — she joined a chorus of voices speaking out about the lack of diversity in a specific part of the industry: the hair and makeup department.

Rowdy boos were followed by triumphant cheers at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles, as the Hollywood union touched on a week of controversy over a reversed decision to hand out four Oscars during the show’s commercial breaks.
Hair and makeup was one of the four categories that would have been relegated to commercials, edited down and aired later on in the ABC event. After intense backlash from the creative community, the Academy stood down and declared it would air all categories on the live show.
“We’re in good company with the cinematography and the editing folks because they’re vital to making movies. Can you imagine if they didn’t have hair and make up for the movies?” joked Loni Love, a host on “The Real” and the emcee of the guild’s Saturday ceremony held at Dtla’s Novo Theater.

The Academy’s move, made official Monday, was made in order to bring the telecast in at under three hours.
