Just like “Iron Chef,” Alton Brown is synonymous with Food Network. But now, both the beloved show and the celebrity chef have moved to Netflix for a new version of the competition series that will be co-hosted by Brown.
With Netflix’s “Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend,” which premiered this week, Brown has officially departed from his long tenure at Food Network, where he was a staple for 21 years.
Brown first joined Food Network in the late ’90s, and was the host and creator of “Good Eats,” as well as the host of “Iron Chef America,” “Cutthroat Kitchen” and a slew of other series at Food Network and the Cooking Channel.
Though his exit was never formally announced, Brown’s last deal with Food Network took him through 2020, and since, he has quietly left their airwaves. In 2021, new episodes of his shows have aired — “Good Eats: The Return,...

Exclusive: Iron Chef is back in the kitchen after Netflix cooked up a deal to bring back the classic food format.
The streamer has ordered Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, a reboot of the series that had a couple of incarnations in the U.S. including a Food Network series that featured the likes of Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Wolfgang Puck.
Netflix has had previous success rebooting linear formats – arguably its biggest non-scripted hit has been Queer Eye, which is based on the Bravo series.
The series, which is expected to be dished up later this year, is based on a Japanese format from Fuji Television Network. It has been handed an eight-episode order.

Alfonso Cuarón has triumphed at the Directors Guild of America Awards, making the “Roma” auteur the official frontrunner as we near the Academy Awards in just a few weeks. Cuarón previously won the award for “Gravity,” for which he also won the Oscar.

The 71st Annual Directors Guild of America Awards will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, with awards to be given out in 11 categories across film and television.
Alfonso Cuaron is the runaway favorite to take home his second feature film DGA Award for “Roma,” which would set him up for the corresponding Oscar since the two bodies have only ever disagreed seven times in 70 years. He previously won both for “Gravity” (2013). Spike Lee (“BlacKkKlansman”) is in second place in our odds and would be the first black winner in DGA history.
Last year, Cuaron’s friend Guillermo del Toro took home the DGA and Oscar for “The Shape of Water.”
See DGA Awards: Alfonso Cuaron all but certain to win key Oscar precursor
On the TV side, “The Americans” is predicted to bag another farewell prize, while it’s a tight one between “Atlanta” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” for comedy honors.

Comedy series creators dominate this year’s roster of Directors Guild of America TV awards nominees. Donald Glover is contending for an episode in the sophomore season of “Atlanta,” which also reaped a bid for Hiro Murai. Both Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino vie for installments in the second edition of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” And Bill Hader is nominated for the pilot of “Barry.”
Among the TV drama helmers is Adam McKay for an episode of “Succession.” He could well be a nominee for his film “Vice” as well. He contends here against “Ozark” star Jason Bateman, long-time “Homeland” helmer Lesli Linka Glatter, Chris Long for “The Americans” series finale and Daina Reid for a second season episode of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

The Director’s Guild of America gave its stamp of approval to a number of actors-turned-directors Monday afternoon, nominating a slew of famous faces for its 2019 DGA Awards.
Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Bill Hader (“Barry”), Sacha Baron Cohen (“Who Is America?”), and Ben Stiller (“Escape at Dannemora”) all landed their first DGA nominations, while Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) scored his second nomination for the series.
“Atlanta” was one of a few projects scoring multiple nominations, as Hiro Murai was also selected for his work on “Teddy Perkins” (IndieWire’s pick for the best TV episode of 2019). Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino were both nominated for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and three directors were honored from “A Series of Unfortunate Events”: Barry Sonnenfeld, Bo Welch, and Allan Arkush were all chosen in the Children’s Programs category.

"The King's Speech" continues to reign supreme over awards season - filmmaker Tom Hooper was honored with the top prize at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) awards on Saturday, January 29. Hooper was presented with the outstanding directorial achievement by his peers for his story of stuttering British monarch King George VI.
The DGA prizegiving is thought to be the best indicator for the Oscars, with all but six recipients going on to pick up the Best Director honor at the Academy Awards since 1948. Tom Hooper of "The King's Speech" has been named the best film director of 2010 by his peers.
Hooper won the Directors Guild of America Award for best feature-film director at the awards Saturday night (Jan. 29), beating out Darren Aronofsky ("Black Swan"), Christopher Nolan ("Inception"), David O. Russell ("The Fighter") and David Fincher ("The Social Network"). And if history holds, Hooper may now be the front-runner to win the Academy Award for best director as well.
Only six times since the DGA began its awards in 1948 has the guild's winner not won the Oscar for best director that year; the last time was in 2002, when Roman Polanski ("The Pianist') beat out DGA winner Rob Marshall of "Chicago." Fincher, Russell, Aronofsky and "True Grit's" Joel and Ethan Coen are the other Oscar nominees for best director.

The Directors Guild of America announced its award winners for achievement in 2010 last night, and the big winner was Tom Hooper, director of The King's Speech. That, in conjunction with the film's victory [1] at the Producers Guild awards, puts the movie as the odds-on favorite to win the Best Picture Oscar, and makes Mr. Hooper a likely win for Best Director as well. The DGA and Academy have gone different ways for Best Director only six times in the past six decades, and I'm not certain this year will make it seven. In Contention [2] points to the difference at the 2003 Oscars, where the relatively young Rob Marshall won the DGA award for Chicago over directors like Martin Scorsese and Roman Polanski. But the Academy went with Roman Polanski as Best Director for The Pianist, even as Chicago won Best Picture. So will a more experienced director like Darren Aronofsky, David O. Russell...

Los Angeles — Tom Hooper pulled off an upset win Saturday for the top film honor at the Directors Guild of America Awards for his British monarchy tale "The King's Speech."
Hooper won out over David Fincher for "The Social Network," who had been considered the favorite for Hollywood's main directing prizes, including the Academy Award on Feb. 27.
The guild win for Hooper sets up a showdown between him and Fincher at the Oscars, where "The King's Speech" leads with 12 nominations. The film relates the struggles of Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, to overcome a debilitating stammer as he took the throne in the years leading to World War II.
"To be back here a second time is extraordinary," said Hooper, an Emmy winner for the miniseries "Elizabeth I" and a previous Directors Guild nominee for the miniseries "John Adams."
The Directors Guild honor is one of the most-accurate forecasts for the Oscars.

Not as much a stunner, but it's definitely an upset win as last year's winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) awarded Tom Hooper the top prize at tonight's 63rd Annual Directors Guild of America Awards for his work on The King's Speech. Hooper beat out the predicted front-runner David Fincher (The Social Network) along with fellow nominees Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Christopher Nolan (Inception) and David O. Russell (The Fighter).
How did David Fincher take the news? "New York Times" columnist Melena Ryzik posted to Twitter saying, "David Fincher split the second after Tom Hooper's name was announced."
This news comes on the heels of The King's Speech racking up 12 Oscar nominations this past Tuesday and Hooper's win at the DGA tonight has pretty much swung all award season momentum its way. Should the film take home the Screen Actors Guild Best Ensemble award tomorrow night I have a pretty...

"Modern Family" E.P. Steve Levitan is amongst the just-announced Director's Guild Award nominees for his the first episode of the series he directed himself -- last season's "Hawaii." (Which basically means that he got a trip to Hawaii and a nom out of the deal. Not bad.)
Also nominated in the Comedy Series category are seven-time nominee Beth McCarthy Miller, for the live episode of "30 Rock," Ryan Murphy for "Glee's" Madonna episode, Michael Spiller for "Modern Family's" Halloween-themed episode, and David Nutter for "Entourage's" "Lose Yourself."
Nutter also finds himself nominated in the TV Movie and Miniseries category with Jeremy Podeswa for "The Pacific's" "Basilone." (Podeswa is nominated on his own for the episode "Home," too.) Also nominated: Mick Jackson for "Temple Grandin," Barry Levinson for "You Don't Know Jack," and Tim Van Patten for "The Pacific's" "Okinawa."

The DGA revealed their nominees for the best direction of 2010 today and for the most part, they were pretty expected. Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire, and The Pacific all had multiple episodes/installments nominated in their respective categories, but joining them in being nominated (though not necessarily in the same category) were an episode from The Hills, an episode of Glee that wasn't received terribly well, and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. You can read the full list of nominees below in the press release.

"Mad Men" crew prove themselves that they work with the best. The AMC drama has just received three nominations at 2010 Directors Guild Awards. Three episodic directors, Jennifer Getzinger, Lesli Linka Glatter and Matthew Weiner, will compete against each other in Dramatic Series category.
The domination by "Mad Men" is almost being toppled by Fox's new series, "Glee", which nabs two under the category of Comedy Series. Similarly, HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" also has two candidates under Comedy, Jeff Schaffer and Larry Charles, who are both known as executive producers as well.
"Television directors play a crucial role in eliciting performance, advancing the story and establishing the look and feel in all genres of television," said DGA President Taylor Hackford. "The DGA Awards highlight the most outstanding examples of excellence in television each year, and our 41 nominees in eight categories have distinguished themselves with creative, compelling projects that entertained and informed a diverse worldwide audience.
