Recently Jack Wagner sat down with People Magazine to reflect on his impressive career, and what he has learned in Hollywood and in his personal life over the decades.

It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Netflix is pivoting to lower-budget filmmaking projects, moving away from the high-octane big-budget action flicks, the New York Times reports. That would be a piece of great news for filmmakers as it opens up more opportunities to screen your next project on the Netflix platform.
Netflix and independent filmmaker Enough with the mega-budget projects
The story begins with Mark Wahlberg. According to Bi in 2020, Netflix paid Wahlberg a whopping $30 million to star in “Spenser Confidential,” which clocks in at 24 on the highest-paid film roles of all time. Critics panned the action thriller, an adaptation of Robert P. Barker’s 2013 novel “Wonderland.” It scored a dismal 36% on Rotten Tomatoes despite the hefty investment. That caused some turbulence in the screening giant, in which Netflix’s previous film chief, Scott Stuber, left the company in January following clashes with bosses over what kinds of films to produce. Halle Berry became a big name after a string of supporting roles in the 90s with the superhero film X-Men in 2000. Berry played the iconic X-Men character Storm and it is arguably her most popular role. However, she would also be remembered for playing one of the most iconic Bond girls in 2002’s Die Another Day.
Halle Berry played Storm in multiple X-Men films
Berry starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film, and her role as Jinx was different from others in the past as she helped move the plot instead of being reduced to a damsel in distress. However, Berry faced an embarrassing moment during an intimate scene with Brosnan in the film.

At the turn of the millennium, humanity was brought face-to-face with the world of the apes, beginning with the Planet of the Apes. The Mark Wahlberg starrer created waves back in 2001, laying down the foundation for a franchise that would never turn back. Even more than two decades down the lane, fans still continue to love the story. And a big testament to this is the hype around the upcoming entry in the series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. There will be one notable absence though – the absence of Andy Serkis.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes immortalized Andy Serkis’s Caesar Andy Serkis nailed it as Caesar
The year is 2011. Rise of the Planet of the Apes has just hit the theatres. Another entrant in a story that already had a host of buyers, the flick would go on to amass over $480 million at the Box Office.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have, in less than 15 years, established themselves as the most exciting composers working in contemporary film.
Their first score was David Fincher’s masterpiece “The Social Network.” The score was a haunting, atmospheric triumph, and it won them Oscars, an even more impressive feat given the Academy’s historic anti-rock band bias. And what began as an exclusive collaboration with Fincher soon blossomed outward – they have worked with Pixar and Ken Burns, scored a prestige TV version of Alan Moore’s “Watchmen,” and an animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. They can do it all, while remaining uniquely them.
They are unstoppable, too. This week “Challengers,” from Luca Guadagnino, is released alongside their soundtrack album. And they have a pair of scores still coming this year – for the big-budget Apple movie “The Gorge” and for Guadagnino’s “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig.

Drew Barrymore went in a different direction in the ’90s, as the long-time star has now confirmed that she once opted to play Cinderella instead of a porn star. The actress recently shared on an episode of her eponymous talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via The Hollywood Reporter) that she did in fact turn down a role in “Boogie Nights.” Barrymore has long been rumored to have been considered for the Rollergirl part, which later went to Heather Graham.
“It’s so hard when you, like, are thinking of doing a film and then you don’t end up doing it,” Barrymore said. “I have so many of those experiences. I’ve never said this out loud, ‘Boogie Nights.’ There was a moment where we were talking about ‘Boogie Nights’ and I think it’s when I went and did ‘Ever After’ [‘A Cinderella Story’] and I went in a very different direction.

Over three days of testimony this week, Donald Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan has spawned subplots inside and outside the courtroom.
With a decision on one contempt motion pending, Judge Juan Merchan has scheduled a hearing on Thursday for prosecutors to argue that Trump has committed more violations of the judge’s gag order against disparaging or intimidating witnesses, jurors and other trial participants.
At the first contempt hearing on Tuesday, prosecutors sought fines for ten Trump online posts blasting witnesses Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen and calling prospective jurors “liberal activists.” Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Chris Conroy said that next week’s hearing will cover four more alleged gag-order violations.
The last was at a construction site in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday where Trump visited with workers before heading to court. There, Trump talked about the prosecution’s first witness, David Pecker, the former CEO of National Enquirer publisher American Media,...

Janet Jackson and Drew Barrymore are looking back at their acting careers and revealing some iconic movies they passed on.
The singer made a surprise appearance on Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, and in a preview clip, Jackson shared which legendary superhero she almost played.
After being asked if she was supposed to star in The Matrix, she responded, “No.” Jackson added that she couldn’t remember the film’s name but knew who got the role when she turned it down.
“It was…this is horrible,” the Good Times alum said. “I can’t remember the film, but Halle Berry played Storm.” Barrymore exclaimed in response, “X-Men?”
“I couldn’t because I was just embarking on the Janet tour,” Jackson continued. “But I think that’s what you’re confusing it with. It wasn’t The Matrix.”

Forty years ago, author William Gibson brought the world a cyberpunk novel called Neuromancer – and an adaptation of that story has been trudging its way through development hell pretty much ever since. Versions of a feature film adaptation have passed through the hands of director like music video maker Chris Cunningham, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob‘s Chuck Russell, Torque‘s Joseph Kahn, Cube‘s Vincenzo Natali, and Deadpool‘s Tim Miller. While these projects were being put together (and while they fell apart), Neuromancer fans always wondered who would end up playing the lead character, Henry Dorsett Case. Hayden Christensen was rumored to be the top contender when Kahn was going to direct (with Liv Tyler rumored to co-star). Liam Neeson and Mark Wahlberg were said to be in the running for Natali’s version, although it wasn’t said who they might be playing.

Remaking a 2002 Hong Kong hit and setting the story in Irish-Catholic Boston, Martin Scorsese seemed to be out of his element with The Departed—if not, that is, for the fact that the film marked a return to the director’s bread-and-butter mean streets, and that his source material, Wai Keung Lau and Siu Fai Mak’s Infernal Affairs, was itself heavily influenced by his iconic gangster films. Something of a genre homecoming after recent detours into the arenas of the historical epic (Gangs of New York) and the period biopic (The Aviator), The Departed again found him trawling a gritty, brutal urban underbelly where racial epithets spit from roughnecks’ mouths, class divisions are as sharp as a switchblade, and allegiances to others and one’s self are always tenuous at best.

The biggest name in the music industry is back in the news again as Taylor Swift has some words for her critics.
For those of you who aren’t aware, the 34-year-old singer dropped her studio album recently titled The Tortured Poets Department which has 16 songs.
Since it’s a Taylor Swift album, it was bound to get all the attention in the world and it did, and the critics have mixed reactions on the album. Some critics have some really good words for it while others are simply too harsh, among the latter includes Paste Magazine which has simply said it’s Taylor’s worst album to date.
The New York Times also kept the album in the not-so-good category. Top critic Dan Cairns gave a thumbs-up to the album, calling it a rich and concise collection of short stories.

What’s the Whole Story of David Beckham and Mark Wahlberg’s Legal Spat?

For those who aren’t aware, Mark has a 36% stake in the company while he also serves as its chief branding officer. F45 was started in 2011 in Australia, and it offers services in health, gym, and fitness in across 60 countries.
The company saw exponential growth and back in 2021, it was also the fastest-growing fitness brand in the US. In 2019, Mark Wahlberg’s investment company bought majority shares in the company and two years later it went public with a valuation of US$1.4 billion.

The former Manchester United footballer David Beckham is sueing Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg who is the Chief Brand Officer of fitness brand Functional 45 aka F45 for allegedly “duping” him into becoming a brand ambassador for the fitness brand.

Soccer star David Beckham is suing Hollywood A-lister Mark Wahlberg over a fitness deal that left Beckham with a $10 million out-of-pocket loss.
Beckham’s firm, Db Ventures, claims Wahlberg “duped” him into a brand deal with F45 Training that grants Wahlberg 36% interest. Wahlberg is also the chief branding officer. Beckham also claims he was given his share of the brand’s stocks when its price had plummeted, resulting in a significant financial loss for Beckham.
F45 Training is a fitness brand with training centers in 60 countries, including the United States. Beckham became the brand’s global ambassador in 2021 after he moved to Los Angeles and befriended Wahlberg. Beckham and F45 shared several photos of the soccer player endorsing the brand on social media, but those photos have now been removed.
Along with Wahlberg and his investment firm, Mark Wahlberg Investment Group, Beckham is also suing F45 founders Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsch.

Director Paul Thomas Anderson had not considered Heather Graham for the part as it required nudity. However, her agent called him and asked if she could audition. The rest is history; she has received critical praise for her performance.

Apple TV+ officially launched on November 1, 2019, the same month as Disney+ and about six months before HBO Max (now Max.)
The launch of Apple's original content efforts came when all of the major players were staking out their claims on the streaming economy following the success of Netflix.
Four and a half years into its existence, Apple has much to be proud of regarding Apple TV+
It has produced some global hits, led by Ted Lasso, and it became the first and so far only streaming service to make a movie that won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Apple TV+ likely does not draw the eyeballs that Netflix and some of its other competitors do. But in Apple's case, that doesn't quite matter.

Hollywood stars Halle Berry and Bruce Willis have joined forces in various movies like Perfect Stranger and The Last Boy Scout. However, the actress has shared that she did not have a very pleasant experience working with the action star in their first film together, Tony Scott’s The Last Boy Scout.

The film follows Willis as a washed-up private investigator who teams up with a disgraced football star to uncover a potential conspiracy. Berry, who was still carving her path in the industry, portrayed the role of a stripper, Cory. And she later expressed feeling overlooked and unnoticed by her co-star.

Mark Wahlberg is inevitably widely recognized as one of the most talented actors in all of Hollywood’s entertainment industry. From his immaculate acting skills to his absolutely breathtaking physique, the 52-year-old actor continues to charm his fans from all across the globe to the core. But many years before he attained this respectable feat, Wahlberg wasn’t as confident as he is now.

After a decades-long wait, it was 2006’s The Departed that earned Martin Scorsese his first Oscar win for Best Director, presented by the iconic trio of Coppola, Spielberg, and Lucas. Apart from Scorsese’s deserved victory, the thriller, based on the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, further swooped four accolades in the 79th Academy Award, including Best Picture.
But while Scorsese intended it to be a one-off thing, Mark Wahlberg, who starred as Sergeant Dignam, had ideas about continuing the story with a sequel, starring Brad Pitt and Robert De Niro.

Martin Scorsese’s history with the Academy Awards hasn’t always been cheerful, but the veteran filmmaker managed to grab one for The Departed in 2007. The Boston-set crime thriller exposed the many institutional problems with crime fighting. By the end of the film, all the ‘rats’ end up dead, sending a clear message about the film’s themes to the viewers. However, Warner Bros. wasn’t exactly thrilled that Scorsese killed off the stars of the film.

In the film, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Billy Costigan and Matt Damon’s Colin Sullivan were working as moles in the Irish mob and the Massachusetts State Police respectively. Both stars were assets to WB if the movie were ever made into a franchise, but Scorsese had very different plans for them.

Movies like Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy have proved that the harsh opinions of critics cannot be entirely trusted. The difference in opinion between critics and audiences may occur due to different factors. Some themes in films would pique the interest of movie lovers no matter what the critics say about its lack of originality. Burt Reynolds passed away five years ago, yet the legend of the actor, sex symbol, and famous mustache-wearer continues to grow even now. The most recent Reynolds anecdote to circulate comes courtesy of "Boogie Nights," where the "Smokey and the Bandit" star infamously clashed with a then 27-year-old Paul Thomas Anderson.
Stories of Reynolds' displeasure with the filming experience on the 1997 porn-centric comedic drama are widely known by now, and The Washington Post even reported once that he fired his agent after doing the film. In an interview with GQ in 2015, Reynolds admitted that he'd be hesitant to work with Anderson -- who earned a Best Writing Oscar nomination for "Boogie Nights," and 10 additional nominations since -- again. As Reynolds put it, "Personality-wise, we didn't fit." At the time, the actor didn't mince words, saying that during the "Boogie Nights" shoot he found Anderson "young and full of himself" and...

Hollywood decamped for Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon, looking to reassure movie theater owners and executives that they had what it takes to keep audiences flocking to cinemas through 2024 and beyond. And despite odes to the magic of the big screen experience, there was a whiff of desperation in the artificially-oxygenated, cigarette-perfumed air of Caesars Palace, where the annual exhibition trade show takes place.
That’s because the box office hasn’t recaptured its pre-pandemic stride — studios estimate that roughly 15% to 20% of frequent moviegoers have yet to resume their old entertainment habits now that Covid has dissipated. We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.
Writing from the panel, Lance said attendees were told this version of The Crow is “a complete re-imagining that is not meant to compete with the original. The Lionsgate rep made mention how the original graphic novel is different than the beloved movie and made a point that the trailer was divisive, but they want to tell this story for a new generation.” As for what was shown in the new trailer, Lance writes, “An afterlife way-station...

Mark Wahlberg promised that he gets to show a very different side of himself in “Flight Risk,” a new thriller from Mel Gibson. And based on the trailer that Lionsgate shared at CinemaCon on Thursday, that’s no exaggeration. Wahlberg, who specializes in square-jawed heroes, is balding and psychotic, playing a mob hit man who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant out of a remote area.
Scenery is chewed as Wahlberg sports a faux Southern accent and flashes a sociopathic glint in his eye. Gibson, no stranger to controversies over the years, is presented in the trailer as the Oscar-winning director of “Braveheart” and “Apocalypto.” Gibson also earned an Oscar nomination for “Hacksaw Ridge.” He and Wahlberg have worked together in the past on “Father Stu” and “Daddy’s Home 2.” “Flight Risk” is different from those films (think aviation thrillers like “Executive Decision...

Exclusive: In recent years, comedian Tom Segura has taken to both his podcasts and the press to tease a pilot that he self-financed, produced and sold. And now, he’s revealed Netflix as the destination for the project, a six-episode dark comedy series that he’ll star in and produce.
This is just Segura’s latest deal with the streamer, which has previously put out each of his five chart-topping comedy specials. The untitled series, for which he also serves as narrator, will see him take the viewer through a series of vignettes in each episode. The twisted comedic sensibility of his stand-up is the core DNA of this series, where every story will unfold in a in a hilariously disturbing way only he could imagine.

April began with showers, plus a tiny regional earthquake on the East Coast, but that didn’t keep anyone away from theaters, even if it was a slower weekend than much of March. Read on for the weekend box office report.
There was little surprise that Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” would win its second weekend at #1. Despite dropping 60% from its fantastic opening weekend, it still was able to take first place with an estimated $31.7 million to bring its total to $135 million after crossing the $100 million mark in its first week. It also passed the $361 million mark globally, with another $59.3 million grossed overseas this weekend.
The weekend offered two new wide releases in Dev Patel‘s directorial debut, the action-thriller “Monkey Man,” and 20th Century’s horror prequel “The First Omen,” the former released into 3,029 theaters vs. “The First Omen’s” 3,375 theaters. “Monkey Man” came into the...

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire easily took the top spot this weekend at the box office, posting a much stronger-than-expected $31.7 million second weekend. We predicted about $25 million, so this is a significantly more extensive haul than expected for the MonsterVerse sequel, with it falling about 60% in week 2. That’s decent for a tentpole blockbuster like this. Everyone assumed the movie would be front-loaded, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, with it now on its way to at least a $200 million domestic haul – maybe more.
However, Godzilla and Kong’s good fortune at the multiplex spelled doom for two new genre titles – Monkey Man and The First Omen, both of which were gunning for some of that movie’s audience. Of the two, Monkey Man’s $10.1 million haul isn’t half bad if you consider that Universal picked it up for only about $10 million after Netflix opted to dump it.

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy films of the 2000s won fans’ hearts across the globe. While the story was already popular among readers of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy adventure books, the films introduced the epic Middle Earth saga to millions more.
They also made director Peter Jackson and lead actor Elijah Wood, household names. However, many are unaware that at a point, the trilogy’s visionary director had almost been cut out of the project. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was almost doomed when Harvey Weinstein’s Miramax held its film rights.
