After the humongous hit and accolades he received from Barbie last year, Ryan Gosling is back on the big screen with The Fall Guy. The film interestingly pairs him with Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt whose film was part of the Barbenheimer hype train last year. Their hilarious banter about the phenomenon and their films attracted fans to see their chemistry in The Fall Guy.

The film was released on May 3, and audiences generally loved the David Leitch-directed film. On its opening day, the film collected an underwhelming box office collection of $10.4 million, a relatively low opening compared to its budget. The summer movie season has unfortunately started on a dull note.

Gone are the days of Ryan Gosling beating goons to a pulp in elevators in films like “Drive” or drinking a marriage into dissolution in “Blue Valentine”. At least for right now. In a recent Wall Street Journal Magazine interview, Gosling admitted that the softer, more fun roles he’s taken on lately are largely a result of looking out for his wife, Eva Mendes, and their children. The actor says that his decision to step back from more intense roles with came after preparing for his role in the Oscar-winning musical “La La Land”.
“I think ‘La La Land’ was the first,” Gosling said when asked about his practice of factoring his children into the roles he chooses. “It was just sort of like, ‘Oh, this will be fun for them, too, because even though they’re not coming to set, we’re practicing piano every day or we...

Exclusive: As they open The Fall Guy, a TV series-turned-feature, director David Leitch and his 87North producing partner Kelly McCormick are eyeing a beloved graphic novel for a TV series.
Fifth Season has acquired Button Man, an adaptation of the graphic novel by John Wagner, who co-created Judge Dredd and created A History of Violence, latter of which was turned into a terrific action film by David Cronenberg. The graphic novel was illustrated by Arthur Ranson.
Deals are making, but the plan is for Leitch to direct, and he and McCormick will be executive producers alongside Alex Jackson, Roger Kass, Dan Seligmann, and Wagner and Ranson.
While The Fall Guy plays as comedy, Button Man shapes up closer in tone to John Wick, the first installment of which Leitch co-directed with Chad Stahelski.

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Snakes on a Plane was Written and Narrated by Mike Holtz, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When you go back and take a look at the movies that were released in 2006, you might think we were all high. I mean some of us were but regardless, everything was so over the top. Eli Roth’s Hostel was tearing off tourists’ clothes while slashing their Achilles’, The Hills Have Eyes remake was gnarly in every way and does anybody remember that really cool but super weird Paul Walker flick Running Scared? We were on some dark stuff back in the mid-2000s. It wasn’t just the horror and action genres, either. Comedies like Grandma’s Boy had a level of wildness to them that you don’t see these days.

Ryan Gosling is living his best life these days. Or certainly his funniest. After earning an Academy Award nomination purely based on his ability to persuasively turn “Kenergy” into a noun in last summer’s Barbie, he brought that pure, uncut Ken stuff to the Oscar stage. No, not by winning the prize, but by taking home the hearts and minds of the internet with an epic performance of “I’m Just Ken.”
In hindsight, the spectacle of it all might be viewed as a turning point in his career as audiences embrace the guy who seemed so stoic and tortured in the 2010s—with his understated leading roles in Drive, Blade Runner 2049, Blue Valentine, and First Man—as actually a great comedy talent. His next studio vehicle, The Fall Guy, is in theaters now, and we can vouch for it being a breezy, lighthearted entertainment given life by...

The 16 Best Ryan Gosling Movies, from ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Drive’ to ‘Barbie’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2023, and has since been updated.]
Ryan Gosling has that Ken-ergy. He’s Ken out of Ken. He’s Kendlessly Kentertaining. He’s the Kend all, be all. He’s the Kenvy of other actors. He’s impossible to not Kenjoy. He’s more, much more, than Kenough.
Gosling has had a long, fruitful career, but it’s safe to say that he’s never committed to a role as hard as he’s committed to the bit that was the “Barbie” press tour. Every interview and soundbite the Canadian actor gave in the publicity run for Greta Gerwig’s take on the iconic Mattel toy line has launched meme after meme, as he’s spoken about the importance of telling the tragic story of Barbie’s beau Ken. It’s a commitment that’s only seconded by his performance in the film itself, where he goes for broke with a hilarious, oblivious, and often sweet...

“The Fall Guy” costume designer Sarah Evelyn received the script long before Oscar nominee Emily Blunt was on board to play Jody, an aspiring film director. As Evelyn thumbed through the pages, she was attracted to the idea of how it felt like a classic movie with a prototypical underdog.
In putting Jody’s looks together, Evelyn began looking at ‘80s icons like Lauren Hutton and Brooke Shields. Then, she took stock of some famous female directors’ wardrobes.
“I looked at Kathryn Bigelow and Patty Jenkins, women who direct action. I took a good look at Greta Gerwig because she’s very of the moment,” says Evelyn. Other directors including Agnes Varda also popped into mind, and when Blunt signed on, she too came up with ideas. “She was really well researched and is costume-forward.”
In the end, they landed on a little bit of everyone, including the men and...

As a film star, Ryan Gosling is the recipient of multiple titles, such as Gangster Squad and Drive. Even so, the actor, 43, has not yet made an appearance in the superhero genre, despite having received a few role offers from Marvel and DC Studios.
Have you ever been astounded by the fortunate decisions that Hollywood’s best actors make to shape their careers? Consider the Barbie star, a strategic mastermind, when it comes to career-defining decisions. The actor made an especially wise decision when he graciously stepped aside from donning the character of Green Lantern in Martin Campbell’s 2011 flick.

Normally, the summer movie season would kick off with a Marvel superhero movie, but this May, we’re doing things a little differently. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Two of the Oscar-nominated stars from last year’s blockbuster “Barbenheimer” phenom unite for this new action rom-com from filmmaker David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Those stars, of course, are Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who were nominated for Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture-winning “Oppenheimer,” respectively, two of the biggest movies of 2023. “The Fall Guy” premiered at the SXSW Film and TV Festival and even played at the annual exhibitors’ convention, CinemaCon,...

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are ready to leap into action later this week when The Fall Guy races into theaters. As the blistery winter winds blow away and the summer heat increases in certain parts of the world, the duo’s new action-packed homage to stunt performers arrives to take the box office (and your wallet) by storm! Analysts expect The Fall Guy to reach $30M+ in its opening gambit, with some studio execs saying the film could reach $35-40 million.
While a box office opening in the 30s would be solid for an original action film, The Fall Guy cost a reported $130 million to produce. If you like the film, be sure to sing its praises from the rafters. Word of mouth goes a long way with films like this, regardless of the fact that two of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters lead the charge. Meanwhile, The Fall Guy...

On Saturday, WeAreMovieGeeks.com got a sneak peek at the Fall Guy Stuntacular at Universal Studios Hollywood. Based on the upcoming reboot of the 80’s classic TV series, The Fall Guy Stuntacular is a limited running show at the popular movie theme park. Presented just before the Water World stunt show at Universal, this new show features many of the big stunts from the movie. And as if that wasn’t enough, Ryan Gosling, star of the new film was on hand to treat the invited audience to the first look at the stunts and the stunt men and women who make it all possible. Gosling called the film, “a love letter to the stunt community” that has been overshadowed for years. Laughs were also abound, as Gosling doubled down on his likeability and comic chops, joking with the crowd and director of the film David Leitch who was also in attendance.

Traditionally, movie theater walkouts are usually associated with the horror genre, with infamous cases ranging from 1973’s The Exorcist (particularly during the crucifix masturbation scene) and even Lars Von Trier’s controversial serial killer memoir, The House That Jack Built.
That being said, there are exceptions to this rule, as some movies manage to terrorize audiences into leaving the theater regardless of genre. One memorable example of this is Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2013 revenge thriller Only God Forgives, a film so brutal and inaccessible that quite a few critics ended up treating it like a snuff film from hell back when it was first released. However, I’ve come to learn that horror fans have a knack for seeing beyond the blood and guts when judging the value of a story, and that’s why I’d like to make a case for Winding’s near-impenetrable experiment as an excellent horror-adjacent experience.

And the light-hearted rivalry between the two actors appears poised to persist, at least that’s what it seems from the Barbie star’s reaction to a reporter sharing his preference for the Christopher Nolan film over the Oscar-nominated movie.

Amy Adams has been tapped to star in At the Sea, a new drama from Kornel Mundruczó and Kata Wéber — the director and writer of such acclaimed films as Pieces of a Woman and White God — as well as Hammerstone Studios, Ryder Picture Company and Ar Content.
Set to enter production in Boston in June, the film follows the life of Laura (Adams) after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Pic will be produced by Alexander Rodnyansky of Ar Content, Stuart Manashil, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company, Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici and Jon Oakes, and Viktória Petrányi and Mundruczó. Exec producers are Paul J. Diaz, Maria Breese of 3:33 Creative, Lee Broda of Lb Entertainment, Jeff Rice of Jeff Rice Films, and Michael Kupisk. Zsofi Oblath and Rachel Rubin will co-produce.
Ar Content, Paul J. Diaz, and Hammerstone Studios will finance the film, with WME Independent to rep domestic rights, Capstone Pictures handling international, and Sacker Law to oversee production legal.
A six-time Academy Award nominee, Adams most recently wrapped production on 3000 Pictures’ Klara and the Sun, the next film from Oscar winner Taika Waititi, which adapts the dystopian sci-fi story from Kazuo Ishiguro. Up next, she’ll be seen starring in Searchlight Pictures’ Nightbitch from filmmaker Marielle Heller, a dark comedy she also produced through her production company Bond Group Entertainment that hits theaters December 6.
A married director-writer pair out of Hungary, Mundruczó and Wéber are perhaps best known for their 2020 pregnancy drama Pieces of a Woman, which premiered in Venice and brought star Vanessa Kirby her first Oscar nomination following its release on Netflix. Prior to that, the duo collaborated on White God, which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2014; Jupiter’s Moon, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or; and Evolution, which also played the French festival. Separately, Mundruczó directed the pilot of the Apple TV+ limited series, The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
Most recently, Hammerstone produced the action thriller Boy Kills World starring Bill Skarsgård, which will release wide on April 26, and the horror-thriller Don’t Move, starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, for Netflix.
Ryder Picture Company has produced acclaimed titles like Dumb Money and Bruiser.
Ar Content is known for Cannes prize winners like 2019’s Beanpole, from filmmaker Kantemir Balagov, and 2021’s Unclenching the Fists from Kira Kovalenko.
Adams is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Mundruczó and Wéber are repped by United Agents and Novo.

Francis Ford Coppola’s risky, largely self-financed passion project Megalopolis has finally found one distributor – Le Pacte in France.
Hollywood studio reps didn’t seem massively upbeat about Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic, but the $120m film has at least found a valuable backer in France.
French outlet Le Point (as picked up by World of Reel) reports that the independent company Le Pacte will put Megalopolis in the country’s cinemas, with its release scheduled for the end of September.
Le Pacte has good taste when it comes to distributing indie films on French screens; other movies it’s taken under its wing include Snowpiercer, Drive and last year’s Oscar-winning Anatomy Of A Fall.

Superman has always been the most hopeful and powerful hero, whether it is about DC, or Marvel. With the many adaptations of the Kryptonian hero, some get regarded as masterpieces while others die before they can even reach the surface. Adaptations find key elements that please the audiences and the DC Animated Universe is by far excelling the most in that.
All-Star Superman
All-Star Superman is a film that came and went by with powerful performances and a gripping story. Adapted from the comic book series of the same name, it had various voice actors who gave their very best. Veteran star Jack Nicholson has redefined the art of acting in Hollywood. With a wide variety of challenging roles in his impressive filmography, the Oscar winner has proved that he is the yardstick for any aspiring actor in terms of how to approach a performance on screen. The Shining actor has also been known to involve himself deeply in the filmmaking process.
Jack Nicholson in The Shining
The quintessential perfectionist, Nicholson has vouched for the way his roles have been perceived or edited in films, and has carried this passion to directing as well. In his directorial debut in Drive, He Said, the actor had a heated confrontation with the British censors over one particular scene in the film which was originally going to be cut out.

When 9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear signed up on Twitter (now known as X), he chose a telling handle to denote his legacy as a screenwriter and director: @Cancelledagain. “I was sort of infamous for all of my thundering failures over the years,” explains Minear. “Firefly lasted one season, Terriers one season, The Inside one season, Drive went for six episodes. Everything was canceled, so I just called myself ‘cancelled again,’ which actually worked out for me because these are all beloved little cult shows now.”
With the seventh season of 9-1-1, which he created with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, underway and a milestone 100th episode premiering April 4, Minear now has a big, long-running show on his hands, plus a successful spinoff in 9-1-1: Lone Star, which will debut its fifth season in the fall. So much so that he’s considering a name change if he returns to the social media platform.

Earlier this week, we all experienced the first day of spring 2024. We're now fully in the season of rejuvenation, of tossing out the old and bringing in the new, and literally nothing -- not the most intense spring cleaning session, or even the most spectacular miracles of nature itself -- better represents that than the churn of films and TV shows leaving the Netflix streaming service as its rotating library is partially shaken out and replenished with a fresh round of titles.
We know what movies and shows are arriving in April, but what about the projects that are getting the boot and being scattered into the digital ether, potentially disappearing for a while or perhaps popping up on some other streaming service altogether? Thankfully, we have that information at our fingertips as well. And with just a few days left in the month, consider this a ticking clock reminder...

Strap in for the new trailer for David Leitch’s The Fall Guy. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s upcoming action comedy is getting immense praise for its action and comedy, as well as being a loving tribute to the world of stunt performers — a world Leitch knows very intimately. The film recently had its premiere at SXSW, where people took to social media to rave about it. And Gosling himself would get one of the industry’s biggest compliments with none other than Steven Spielberg told him how much he loved the movie. The upcoming The Fall Guy, in theaters on May 3rd, and a salute to stunt people, had it’s premiere at SXSW earlier this week.
AP reported:
The SXSW premiere of “The Fall Guy” came with some of its own stunts. A pair of motorcycles sped through the crowds milling outside the Paramount Theater before Blunt and Gosling arrived in the back of a pick-up. Blunt and Gosling weren’t the only ones fresh from the Academy Awards. Leitch and his wife, Kelly McCormick, (a producer on “The Fall Guy”) produced a clip reel of stunts for the telecast. Though stunt performance isn’t an Oscar category (a sore point that comes up in “The Fall Guy”), Leitch thinks it will happen soon.

Robert Kirkman is Desperate to Hire Bryan Cranston for Invincible and Only 1 Role is Perfect for Him
Bryan Cranston is one of the most distinguished actors in Hollywood at present. He has brought to life iconic roles such as Walter White in Breaking Bad and Hal in Malcolm in the Middle, among others. With every role, Cranston has always pushed the envelope of his skills on screen, and in the process, he has set the benchmark for versatility.
In addition to being a wonderful actor with a magnetic screen presence, Cranston has also lent his voice to different characters. During the early days of his career, the Drive actor took to dubbing various cartoons and even anime, interestingly.
With a wealth of experience and talent behind him, Cranston is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the industry. The creator of the show Invincible, Robert Kirkman, has been desperately trying to woo the actor to join his cast, and there is one role that is absolutely perfect for him.

Ryan Gosling is probably one of the best physical comedians of his generation. Writing these words a handful of days after the Oscars where, even though he didn’t take home a prize, Gosling won the night by belting “I’m Just Ken” in Margot Robbie’s ear, is to state the obvious. But it wasn’t that long ago when the actor was mostly renowned for playing remote and aloof characters. Think First Man’s Neil Armstrong, Blade Runner 2049’s K, and Drive’s, um, Driver. It’s thus satisfying to see audiences finally come around to recognizing the star’s stealthily hilarious comic timing.
Well, the cat’s out of the bag now, and with The Fall Guy following Barbie, it’s safe to say Gosling has transitioned to the groovy himbo stage of his career. Long may it last if it inspires movies as frothy and...

At this year’s Academy Awards, “The Fall Guy” stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt presented a video tribute to stunt performers that included clips ranging from the silent era up through recent action juggernauts like “Rrr” and the “Fast & Furious” series. It was a step forward for a group whose contributions are frequently undervalued despite, as Blunt put it, “risk[ing] life and limb” for cinema. And yet, the segment didn’t come with an award attached.

“Love Lies Bleeding” director Rose Glass can’t speak to the very online debate over movie sex scenes in the 21st century — whether audiences want to see them, and whether they’re necessary to films at all.
“In terms of speaking to the wider conversations about cinema, sex, and audiences, I don’t feel qualified to know. I know I’ve sort of read that people are saying that younger audiences are more sex-averse or sex-scene-cynical, but I’ve only read that in articles. I don’t know how true it is,” Glass told IndieWire over Zoom.

A classic YouTube car channel is shifting back into high gear. On February 29, The Drive uploaded its first new video in more than two years and pledged to launch several new programs related to automotive culture.
The Drive, originally known as /Drive, was one of the success stories from the YouTube Original Channels Initiative, a $100 million investment in premium programming that kicked off in 2012. With its blend of editorial content and high-quality videos, The Drive became a hit, picking up nearly two million subscribers and (eventually) more than 470 million views.
Things changed in 2016, when Time Inc. (now part of Warner Bros. Discovery) acquired /Drive and several other YouTube-based car properties, which it merged with its in-house automotive brands. As The Drive editor-in-chief Kyle Cheromcha explained in a recent YouTube video, Time Inc. struggled to understand the properties it has bought. “They had this half-baked scheme to turn the brand into...

Carey Mulligan has more than lived up to her promise. The English actor was an obvious, stand-out talent early in her career, whether she was playing one of the Bennett sisters in Joe Wright’s “Pride & Prejudice” adaptation or in an acclaimed one-episode appearance in BBC’s “Doctor Who.” When 2009 saw her receive a Best Actress nomination for her role in the acclaimed drama “An Education,” it seemed to mark the emergence of a great new young actor.
And since that breakthrough, Mulligan has only continued to go from strength to strength. An actor’s actor with the ability to fully embody the complicated women she’s often cast as, Mulligan consistently picks interesting, juicy parts, in films as varied as “Never Let Me Go,” “Drive,” “Shame,” “Far from the Madding Crowd,” and “Mudbound.” As she’s gotten a little older and aged out of the young ingenue parts...

Superstar Japanese auteur Hamaguchi Ryusuke will unveil “Gift,” a companion piece to his recent “Evil Does Not Exist” as a one-off live performance at next month’s Hong Kong International Film Festival.
Following the success of his breakout “Drive My Car,” which won the Oscar for best international feature film, Hamaguchi initially made “Gift” as a silent film project to accompany the live performance of Ishibashi Eiko, the music composer of both “Drive” and later “Evil.”
From the same project, Hamaguchi also derived “Evil Does Not Exist,” which then went on to win the Grand Jury Prize at last year’s Venice International Film Festival. With a similar narrative, both are eco-political thrillers that revolve around a man and his daughter whose peaceful rural lives are about to be disrupted by the construction of a glamping site.
A piece of highly-controlled filmmaking, “Evil” became a major talking point with its baffling and enigmatic ending.

Nicolas Winding Refn’s next project will mark his first feature film since 2016’s The Neon Demon. More here.
Nicolas Winding Refn is one of those provocative directors who seems to revel in controversy. After wowing the world with the incredibly stylish Drive in 2011, the director follow it with two projects that foregrounded violence and other shocking elements such as necrophilia and cannibalism in his next two films: Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon.
Then Refn all but disappeared from feature filmmaking, choosing instead to dabble in a seres of left-field short films and focus on TV work, including the slow-moving crime drama series Too Old To Die Young for Amazon Prime Video in 2019. He also recently produced an adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five for the BBC.
Whatever he’s dabbled in, Refn has seemed keen to avoid Hollywood, claiming back in 2022 on a Deadline podcast...

There will be more wide releases at the box office this weekend –three, in fact– but they’re not expected to make a dent before Legendary/Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two brings everybody back on March 1 with a hopeful $80M start.
Focus Features’ Ethan Coen-directed femme comedy caper Drive-Away Dolls, Sony/Crunchyroll’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba -To The Hashira Training and Lionsgate/Kingdom Story’s Ordinary Angels hit marquees on Friday but Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love will smoke them all with a second weekend of $15M, about -45% down from the biopic’s 3-day of $28.6M.
The second weekend of Sony/Marvel’s Madame Web could possibly ease -55% for around $6.8M. How the heck is that? The Dakota Johnson-Sydney Sweeney thriller pic posted a Tuesday of $1.75M that was -30% off of Monday’s $2.5M. Bob Marley: One Love saw $2.9M yesterday,...
