2023 marked the 35th anniversary of the release of the 1988 film Pumpkinhead (watch it Here), which was the feature directorial debut of legendary special effects artist Stan Winston. Scream Factory celebrated the anniversary by giving the film a new 4K and Blu-ray release and now, soon after ’23 came to an end, Trick or Treat Studios is celebrating Pumpkinhead with an awesome 8″ scale figure! An image of the figure can be seen at the bottom of this article, and more can be found on the Trick or Treat Studios website, where the figure is available for pre-order. Pre-ordered figures are expected to start shipping out on February 29th. The figure goes for the price of $59.99.

One of this writer’s favorite films of all time, Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) is getting the 4K treatment from Kino Lorber this Tuesday, and Arrow Video is resurrecting both The Snake Girl and the Silver Haired Witch and Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge on Blu-ray as well (this is also very exciting news in my world). Arrow is also re-releasing a handful of other titles—The Cat O’ Nine Tails, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, and C.H.U.D.—and the first season of Rod Serling’s Night Gallery is headed to Blu-ray as well.

Happy Monday, dear readers! We have a brand new slate of home media releases to look forward to as we head into a new month, and there are some great films coming out on Tuesday that genre fans will definitely want to pick up. Rlje Films is finally releasing Horror Noire on both Blu-ray and DVD this week, and they’re also bringing home arguably the most talked-about horror film of 2020 as well: Rob Savage’s Host. Kino Lorber is showing some love to Dark Intruder with their new 2K Blu, and Code Red is giving us more reasons to fear the water with their Blu-ray for The Great Alligator.

Billy Goldenberg, a two-time Emmy-winning composer and 21-time nominee who was musical director for Elvis Presley’s 1968 “Comeback Special” and worked on scores of shows ranging from Night Gallery and The Young and the Restless to Columbo, Kojak, Rhoda and Steven Spielberg’s Duel, has died. He was 84.

The news was confirmed on social media by Goldenberg’s friends Leonard Slatkin and Gary Gerani, but no cause of death was given. Read their tributes below.

Goldenberg worked on hundreds of films and TV programs — mostly the latter — during a career that spanned four decades. His early work included 1960s TV specials from Barbra Streisand and Ann-Margret and serving as music coordinator for the pop music series Hullabaloo.

In 1968, he was set as musical director for NBC’s Presley program that would come to be known as the ’68 Comeback Special. A few years later, Goldenberg would work his another showbiz legend,...

Goldenberg wrote the themes for such 1970s TV series as “Kojak,” “Harry O” and “Rhoda,” composed the pilot scores for “Night Gallery” and “Columbo,” and won Emmys for the TV-movie “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” and miniseries “The Lives of Benjamin Franklin,” “King” and “Rage of Angels.”

He expanded his 1975 “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” song score, with lyricists Marilyn and Alan Bergman, into the score of the 1978 Broadway musical “Ballroom,” directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett of “A Chorus Line” fame. It earned eight Tony nominations including Best Musical.

As everyone here in the States prepares for the grand feast later this week, we have a new round of horror and sci-fi home media releases to indulge in before it’s time for turkey and stuffing. Scream Factory is doing the dark lord’s work this Tuesday with their Collector’s Edition releases of both Candyman and Urban Legend, and they’re even showing Urban Legends: Final Cut some love as well. Season 2 of The Outer Limits comes home this week, the recent sci-fi actioner Kin arrives on multiple formats, and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is getting a 4K upgrade to boot.

Last summer, Kino Lorber had horror and sci-fi fans making sure there there was nothing wrong with their computer screens when they made the big announcement that the entire Outer Limits TV series was heading to Blu-ray and DVD, and now they've revealed the box set packaging, release date, and special features for the first season of the beloved anthology series.

Featuring new HD masters, Kino Lorber's Blu-ray and DVD release of The Outer Limits Season 1 will arrive on March 27th. All 32 episodes of the first season (which originally aired from September of 1963 to May of 1964) will be included, along with a 40-page booklet and 24 audio commentaries from notable film historians and creative minds such as David J. Schow and Reba Wissner.

Ambi will introduce racing drama to buyers in Toronto.

Principal photography is now underway in Alabama on the father-son stock car racing film Trading Paint directed by Karzan Kader. The film will shoot through mid-September.

Ambi and Paradox Studios are fully financing and producing the film. Ambi Distribution, the worldwide sales arm of Ambi Group, is handling worldwide sales.

Trading Paint, written by Craig Welch and Gary Gerani, centres on a down and out dirt track racing legend, who is drawn back into the winners circle after his son, an aspiring driver, joins a competitor’s racing team and incites an intense and dangerous competition between father and son.

First of all, the single most important thing we learned from comics and media coverage in general in 2013 is that people will read anything if it’s organized into a numbered list of bullet points.

1. Science is both awesome and terrifying.

The comic book reading public really discovered the joys of science this year, and the results have been fantastic. From Vertigo’s Federal Bureau Of Physics, a scattered adventure in anti-gravity and bubble universes, to the Discovery Channel-esque explorations of The Wake (Vertigo), physics and biology and chemistry have absolutely become “cool”—even the basis, once again, for science fiction stories about actual science. Rick Remender and Matteo Scalera recently floored us with the intense and no-holds-barred Black Science (Image), a kind of cautionary tale of multiple dimensions involving frog aliens and robot Indians and...

This was the first week in a while where I found myself wondering what the hell I’m supposed to be reviewing. I looked back at all the stuff I’d been doing for the column and realized that there aren’t a lot of books still surviving. On the one hand, I feel like I’ve accomplished something. Dinosaurs Attack! is about as silly as a horror comic can get, and I mean that in the best way. The first issue was fun but also was weighed down with sci-fi melodrama intended to set up the absurd premise of malevolent dinosaurs literally teleporting on Earth’s surface and wreaking carnage. With this issue, the intriguing though convoluted exposition takes a backseat to what this whole series is really about: dino-driven ultraviolence.

Welcome back, fellow sentinels of the sequential sublime, to Comic Execution, where I look at the big new releases of the week and either eviscerate them or shelter them tenderly beneath my black wings of hard earned love. Comics, man. You know how that saying goes; “It’s those you’re closest to that you feel strongest about.” Ain’t nothing gets me going like a magnificent story told through a medium as potentially robust as this one. Discounting a similarly titled Death Ship (1980), which bears no relation to the recent graphic novel of the same name, at least this tale may be the inspiration for a coming film, Last Voyage of the Demeter. News of this film broke early 2011 and as of late, David Slate (30 Days of Night) is to direct, and Bragi F. Schut (Season of the Witch) to write the screenplay. Until this film goes into production, UK residents have the treat of BBC Radio 4's version to tide them over. They provided a chilling version that was last broadcasted in '09, which is now hard to come by.
