Al's Top UNDERRATED Films of All Time

by pounds-alan | created - 30 Nov 2021 | updated - 3 months ago | Public

Below is a list of my favorite films that are rated TOO LOW (in my opinion) by users on IMDB. We all like what we like, so this list is highlighting nostalgic favorites and personal classics. It's pretty clear I'm an 80s baby reading through this list. I would suspect that other 80s babies will also find it entertaining. I only listed films where there was a large gap between my rating and the IMDB rating, then I listed them best to worst by my rating, then worst to best by IMDB rating to highlight the more underrated titles first. Enjoy!

1. Coneheads (1993)

PG | 88 min | Comedy, Sci-Fi

49 Metascore

Aliens with conical crania crash-land on Earth.

Director: Steve Barron | Stars: Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, Robert Knott, Jonathan Penner

Votes: 58,013 | Gross: $21.27M

Extremely underrated and hysterical sci-fi comedy, and my all-time favorite Saturday Night Live film. The story follows Beldar and his wife Prymatt, who are aliens from the planet Remulak. When the National Guard discovers their spaceship on their radar, they send fighter jets to take it down, and it crashes into the Atlantic ocean. They survive and learn it will take several years before Remulak will be able to send a rescue vessel to bring them home, and realize they must adapt to life on Earth. However, a determined agent from the immigration department named Gorman Seedling is hot on their heels for working in the country illegally, and exhausts his resources trying to track them down until they conceal their identities, have a daughter, and find a place to live a normal American life. But just as they feel life on Earth is perfect, they are summoned back to their home planet of Remulak while Seedling simultaneously locates where they've been hiding, which builds up to an explosive ending. I have no idea why this film is rated so low. It lived up to all the magic of the original SNL skits, and more. Excellent story with a perfect cast. Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin both deliver the best lead performances I've seen from either of them. They were both superb and had great chemistry. Michelle Burke, Chris Farley, and Michael McKean also had fantastic starring roles. David Spade, Sinbad, Michael Richards, Eddie Griffin, Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, Jason Alexander, Lisa Jane Persky, Jan Hooks, Dave Thomas, and several others had excellent supporting roles.

2. Beerfest (2006)

R | 110 min | Comedy

46 Metascore

Two brothers travel to Germany for Oktoberfest, only to stumble upon a secret, centuries-old competition described as a "Fight Club" with beer games.

Director: Jay Chandrasekhar | Stars: Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter

Votes: 71,422 | Gross: $19.19M

The Broken Lizard crew makes some of my all-time favorite comedies. Super Troopers may be their best, but this is my personal favorite. Great story about how two brothers travel to Germany for Oktoberfest to honor their grandfather by spreading his ashes among the remains of his elders, when they stumble upon a secret underground beer drinking competition called "Beerfest". After some choice words and family squabbles about their grandfather with the German beer drinking team, they return to the United States to form the ultimate team of beer drinkers and gamers to beat the Germans and the rest of the world in "Beerfest" the following yer. The Broken Lizard crew (Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme) are at their absolute best. The entire German beer drinking team (Will Forte, Nat Faxon, Eric Christian Olsen, Ralf Moeller, Gunter Schlierkamp) was also beyond hilarious. Other small roles from Jürgen Prochnow (especially considering is role in the epic WWII film "Das Boot"), Cloris Leachman, M.C. Gainey, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Bjorn Johnson, and Mo'Nique really add to the hilarity. Underrated classic.

3. Me, Myself & Irene (2000)

R | 116 min | Comedy

49 Metascore

A nice-guy cop with Dissociative Identity Disorder must protect a woman on the run from a corrupt ex-boyfriend and his associates.

Directors: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly | Stars: Jim Carrey, Renée Zellweger, Anthony Anderson, Mongo Brownlee

Votes: 251,331 | Gross: $90.57M

The most severely underrated comedy from 2000, and the last great golden-era film from Bobby Farrelly & Peter Farrelly (The Farrelly Brothers). Hilarious story about a wholesome Rhode Island state trooper (Charlie) who has 3 black sons that he accepts and loves after his wife cheated on him and left their lives. He's eventually diagnosed with multiple personalities because he hasn't confronted the issues with his wife and all the other townspeople who have no respect for him. Sometimes Charlie is charge, and sometimes "Hank" is in charge; which proves to be a hysterical challenge when he's tasked to protect an innocent woman who's on the run from her criminal ex-boyfriend, his associates, and crooked cops. Easily one of my favorite roles from Jim Carrey, as he expanded the range of his character beyond a lot of earlier slapstick comedy his was famous for (even though there's still plenty involved here). Renée Zellweger also delivered my favorite role of hers. Anthony Anderson, Mongo Brownlee, and Jerod Mixon were all absolutely hilarious as the kids. Robert Forster was great as Colonel Partington. Tony Cox had a short, but hilarious cameo. Chris Cooper, and Richard Jenkins played nice antagonists.

4. Half Baked (1998)

R | 82 min | Comedy, Crime

16 Metascore

The story of three not so bright men who come up with a series of crazy schemes to get a friend out of jail.

Director: Tamra Davis | Stars: Dave Chappelle, Guillermo Diaz, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams

Votes: 67,839 | Gross: $17.28M

One of my most watched and beloved comedies, and also the best marijuana inspired film ever in my book. Hilarious story about 3 buddies who try several comical tactics to raise enough money to get their friend out of jail after he fed all their nighty munchies to a cop's diabetic horse; accidentally killing him. Eventually they start stealing medical marijuana from the hospital and making big money off the sales, until a distinguished drug kingpin named Samson Simpson gets involved in their business. This was Dave Chappelle's very first lead movie role, and he hit star-status with it. He was phenomenal as Thurgood Jenkins and also the hilarious weed-smoking rapper, Sir Smoke-a-Lot. Guillermo Díaz, Jim Breuer, and Harland Williams also deliver the best and funniest lead performances of their careers. Rachel True, Clarence Williams III, Laura Silverman, and Tommy Chong all had nice supporting roles.

5. Rad (1986)

PG | 91 min | Drama, Sport

24 Metascore

The story of one young man, Cru Jones, who has the intensity and desire to win a BMX race called Helltrack.

Director: Hal Needham | Stars: Bart Conner, Lori Loughlin, Bill Allen, Talia Shire

Votes: 7,058 | Gross: $2.02M

Extraordinary sports drama from Hal Needham set in a small town during the engrossing boom of BMX and freestyle bicycles that influenced a whole generation of kids like myself. The story follows a teen named Cru Jones who loves nothing more than riding BMX bikes and attempting daring stunts with his best friends. When news hits that a massive professional BMX race sponsored by Mongoose Bicycles named "Helltrack" is coming to their small town, Cru decides he must find a way to compete at a chance to win $100,000, a new Chevrolet Corvette, and a career in BMX. With the help of his new girlfriend Christian and the support of the entire school, Cru must prove that he possesses the raw determination and talent to take down all the top pros at the Super Bowl of all BMX races. I was way into BMX bikes in the 90s, so this ended up being my most-watched film of all-time as a kid. It's literally the very best and most unique film of its kind, and there has never been anything that has come close to a BMX/Freestyle anthem like this. World famous stuntman Hal Needham handled the directing duties, and it's pure gold. I've never seen Bill Allen in any other roles besides this, and he delivered a fantastic lead performance as Cru. Bart Conner, Lori Loughlin, Jack Weston, Ray Walston, Alfie Wise, Marta Kober, Jamie Clarke, Laura Jacoby, H.B. Haggerty, Chad Hayes, Carey W. Hayes, Kellie McQuiggin, Beverley Hendry, Nancy MacDonald, and all the totally RAD BMX racers in this film were absolutely fantastic. It also has one of the best soundtracks of all time. Still a movie I watch and love today.

6. Kingpin (1996)

PG-13 | 114 min | Comedy, Sport

43 Metascore

A star bowler whose career was prematurely "cut off" hopes to ride a new prodigy to success and riches.

Directors: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly | Stars: Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, Bill Murray, Vanessa Angel

Votes: 91,096 | Gross: $24.94M

This is my all-time favorite film from Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly (The Farrelly Brothers). I'd also have say it's the all-time greatest bowling movie. Excellent story about Roy Munson, who was raised to be a great bowler by his father. After some early success, his career is "cut short" after gambling with the wrong bowlers. 17 years later, he's trying to make a living as a washed-up bowling supplies salesman when he meets a promising Amish bowler named Ishmael, and convinces him to enter the $1 million winner-take-all bowling tournament in Reno, Nevada, as he trains him and runs into plenty of comical characters and situations along the journey. Woody Harrelson delivers my all-time favorite character of his as Roy Munson. I'd have to say the same about Randy Quaid playing the Amish blowing prodigy, Ishmael, and Bill Murray's hilarious role as the crooked superstar bowling sensation, Ernie McCracken. Vanessa Angel, Lin Shaye, and Rob Moran all had great supporting roles.

7. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

PG | 90 min | Adventure, Comedy, Music

50 Metascore

Two rock-'n-rolling teens, on the verge of failing their class, set out on a quest to make the ultimate school history report after being presented with a time machine.

Director: Stephen Herek | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, George Carlin, Terry Camilleri

Votes: 141,720 | Gross: $40.49M

Bodacious music-inspired comedy adventure from Stephen Herek set in 1988 San Dimas, California, and follows two underachieving heavy metal loving high school seniors named Ted 'Theodore' Logan and Bill S. Preston 'Esquire', who must pass their oral history exam or else they won't graduate high-school. While cramming for their exam the night before, a phone booth-shaped time machine lands from the sky and a man named Rufus informs them that they are extremely important to the survival and well-being of the future as long as they graduate high school and aren't separated, and that he's there to help them complete their history report with the help of the time machine. Bill & Ted embark on a most excellent adventure as they travel throughout time and collect important historical figures to help them pass their exam and save the future. Bill & Ted are one of my favorite duos in cinema history. They just have those fun, kind, innocent personalities, and have great comedic chemistry together. I'd have to say it's my favorite film from Keanu Reeves (Ted), Alex Winter (Bill), and the great George Carlin (Rufus). And don't get me started on the soundtrack—one of my all-time favorites with cuts from Robbie Robb, Big Pig, and Shark Island (among others). The historical figures also all put on great performances: Terry Camilleri (Napoleon), Dan Shor (Billy the Kid), Tony Steedman (Socrates), Rod Loomis (Sigmund Freud), Al Leong (Genghis Khan), Jane Wiedlin (Joan of Arc), Robert V. Barron (Abraham Lincoln), Clifford David (Beethoven) were all great. Hal Landon Jr., Bernie Casey, Amy Stoch, J. Patrick McNamara, Diane Franklin, Kimberley Kates, and many others also had great supporting roles.

8. The Color of Money (1986)

R | 119 min | Drama, Sport

Fast Eddie Felson teaches a cocky but immensely talented protégé the ropes of pool hustling, which in turn inspires him to make an unlikely comeback.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Paul Newman, Tom Cruise, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Helen Shaver

Votes: 93,311 | Gross: $52.29M

Outstanding sports drama and Martin Scorsese's most underrated picture. It's also my favorite in his his entire filmography. Scorsese resurrects Paul Newman's quintessential pool hall hustling performance as "Fast Eddie Felson" from the timeless billiard inspired 1961 classic, "The Hustler". Now middle-aged and a successful liquor salesman, Eddie recruits a young, cocky and extremely talented pool player named Vincent to hit the road and score huge dough in different pool halls across the country as they work their way to a big money tournament in Atlantic City. They encounter many dramatic and comical situations along the way as Eddie teaches Vincent and his girlfriend/manager Carmen the art of the hustle. But as time moves on, Eddie starts to remember that "money won is twice as sweet as money earned," and decides to pursue his own path as a competitor. Fantastic sequel and easily Newman's best later career lead performance. I'd also have to say this is one of my favorite Tom Cruise roles as well. His innocent turned arrogant personality fit the role beautifully. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was also excellent as his girlfriend, Carmen. Helen Shaver, John Turturro, and Forest Whitaker have smaller, but excellent and memorable supporting roles. The score and soundtrack is also absolutely superb.

9. There's Something About Mary (1998)

R | 119 min | Comedy, Romance

69 Metascore

A man gets a chance to meet up with his dream girl from high school, even though his date with her back then was a complete disaster.

Directors: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly | Stars: Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Ben Stiller, Lee Evans

Votes: 329,012 | Gross: $176.48M

Bobby Farrelly & Peter Farrelly (The Farrelly Brothers) are couple of my all-time favorite movie makers. This is their 2nd best film in my book (behind Kingpin). Excellent story about a man who tracks down his dream girl from high-school 13 years after a hilariously unfortunate accident that occurred the day they were supposed to go to prom. Things seem to be going great as they rekindle their relationship, until he finds out the private investigator, a pizza boy, his best friend, and Brett Favre are all in love and completely obsessed with Mary as well. I had a huge crush on Cameron Diaz upon this film's release, and I still love her as Mary to this day. Definitely the finest lead role of her career. I'd also have to say Ben Stiller and Matt Dillon fit their roles perfectly, and also deliver their best roles. Lee Evans, Chris Elliott, Lin Shaye, Jeffrey Tambor, Markie Post, and Keith David all had nice roles among the supporting cast. Also another great soundtrack, like all The Farrelly Brothers films.

10. Super Troopers (2001)

R | 100 min | Comedy, Crime, Mystery

48 Metascore

Five Vermont state troopers, avid pranksters with a knack for screwing up, try to save their jobs and out-do the local police department by solving a crime.

Director: Jay Chandrasekhar | Stars: Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, André Vippolis, Joey Kern

Votes: 113,001 | Gross: $18.49M

The whole Broken Lizard comedy team is on fire in this hilarious crime comedy. They are easily one of my favorite comedy collectives, and I hope they keep making movies. Excellent story about a bunch of Vermont state troopers who are hilariously bad at their jobs, and must resort to doing some actual police work to save their jobs when budget cuts threaten to wipe out the whole department, and from a team of cold-hearted local cops that are sabotaging them at every turn. When they find the local cops are actually involved in crime involving drugs and a couple murders, they spring into action to serve justice and save their jobs. Erik Stolhanske, Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Paul Soter, Marisa Coughlan, Daniel von Bargen, and Brian Cox all deliver excellent lead performances. Marisa Coughlan, Daniel von Bargen, Michael Weaver, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Maria Tornberg, and plenty others had great supporting roles.

11. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)

R | 90 min | Comedy, Drama

61 Metascore

A group of Southern California high school students are enjoying their most important subjects: sex, drugs and rock n' roll.

Director: Amy Heckerling | Stars: Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Robert Romanus

Votes: 115,823 | Gross: $27.09M

Hysterical coming-of-age comedy from Amy Heckerling and Cameron Crowe that ranks as my all-time favorite high-school film. The story revolves around several characters; including a sexually curious 15-year-old girl named Stacy Hamilton who's torn between the nerdy and kind Mark Ratner or his wise cracking best friend Mike Damone; a carefree and fun-loving stoner named Jeff Spicoli who battles with his hilariously intolerant history teacher Mr. Hand; and Brad Hamilton's fast-food career driven mishaps as he tries to finish high-school with a bang. There are several other memorable and correlating stories that revolve around these main plot points. The cast may be one of the best I've ever seen constructed in any film, and they all have so much great chemistry together, and all deliver incredibly strong performances. Sean Penn (Jeff Spicoli), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Stacy Hamilton), Brian Backer (Mark 'Rat' Ratner), Robert Romanus (Mike Damone), Judge Reinhold (Brad Hamilton), and Phoebe Cates (Linda Barrett) all deliver superb lead performances. Ray Walston (Mr. Hand), Forest Whitaker (Charles Jefferson), Scott Thomson, Vincent Schiavelli, Amanda Wyss, D.W. Brown, Tom Nolan, Eric Stoltz, Anthony Edwards, Nicolas Cage, Stuart Cornfeld, and others also had excellent roles among the supporting cast.

Director: Hoite C. Caston | Stars: Peter Billingsley, Stuart Pankin, Anne Bloom, Patrick Collins

Votes: 1,426

Severely Underrated fantasy-driven family comedy that follows a young teenager named Jack Simmons who lives with his working class single mother and is obsessed with motocross and dirt bikes. One day his mom gives him their last $50 to buy the groceries while she goes out for a job interview. Jack takes the money and heads out to the local motocross track, where he ends up trading his BMX bike and the $50 for a beat-up dirt bike. While his mom is very upset, he soon discovers the dirt bike possesses a mind of its own, along with magical powers that include flying. When he and his friends learn that a greedy bank executive named Mr. Hodgkins plans to build his new bank branch on the location of a local hotdog shop and hangout their baseball coach and friend Mike owns, they do everything they can to save the shop; and the dirt bike proves to be a handy tool in the process. This is one of my most watched films growing up since I was so big into BMX bikes and extreme sports. Surprisingly, I still really love this film today, and am quite happy they released it on a remastered blu-ray. Peter Billingsley arguably delivers his best lead performance of his young career (A Christmas Story is also one of my favorites). Stuart Pankin (Mr. Hodgkins) also had an excellent starring role. Patrick Collins, Anne Bloom, Patrick Collins, Sage Parker, Chad Sheets, Gavin Allen, Danny Breen, Weasel Forshaw, John William Galt, and others also had great supporting roles.

13. Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)

PG-13 | 91 min | Adventure, Comedy, Music

65 Metascore

Once told they'd save the universe during a time-traveling adventure, two would-be rockers from San Dimas, California find themselves as middle-aged dads still trying to crank out a hit song and fulfill their destiny.

Director: Dean Parisot | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, Kristen Schaal, Samara Weaving

Votes: 53,063

Being a huge fan of Bill & Ted since 1989, this movie is everything I hoped it would be. Excellent story which finds Bill & Ted all grown up with teenage daughters of their own, and they are still struggling to write the song that will unite the world, which future beings said they would do 30 years earlier. When it seems they will never accomplish their dreams, an egg-shaped time machine appears out of nowhere, and Rufus' daughter Kelly steps out, and they travel to the future where they find out they must write their world-changing song in less than 80 minutes, or reality is doomed forever. Struggling to do so, they decide to travel into the future in the classic phone booth to obtain the song from their future selves, while their daughters hijack the egg-shaped time machine to collect historical figures with musical backgrounds, to help create the song. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves bring Bill & Ted to life just as we've always known them. They were both superb. Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine also delivered excellent lead performances as their daughters. William Sadler was great as Death once again. Anthony Carrigan playing the Dennis Caleb McCoy was hilarious. Kristen Schaal, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Hal Landon Jr., Jillian Bell, Jeremiah Craft, and DazMann Still all delivered great supporting roles. Overall, no characters or historical figures seemed out of place at all. This is a most non-heinous finale to the Bill & Ted trilogy.

14. The Karate Kid Part II (1986)

PG | 113 min | Action, Family, Sport

55 Metascore

Director: John G. Avildsen | Stars: Pat Morita, Ralph Macchio, Pat E. Johnson, Bruce Malmuth

Votes: 98,925 | Gross: $115.10M

This has always been an underrated sequel to John G. Avildsen's classic 1986 coming-of-age underdog tale. The story follows Mr. Miyagi after receiving a letter from Okinawa informing him that his father had passed away, and that he needs to return to settle his family affairs. Daniel decides to join Mr. Miyagi to learn about Okinawa and his upbringing. Upon arriving, they run into his old friend and former karate student of his father's, Sato, and his nephew Chozen. Sato immediately threatens to kill Miyagi due to the way he left Okinawa decades ago, which sets off a boiling conflict between the two, and also between Daniel and Chozen. Meanwhile, Miyagi rekindles his relationship with a former sweetheart Yukie, and things heat up with Daniel and beautiful young woman named Kumiko. Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita prove to be a fantastic duo once again, and both deliver excellent lead performances. Danny Kamekona, Yuji Okumoto, Tamlyn Tomita, and Nobu McCarthy also have excellent starring roles. Martin Kove, William Zabka, Charlie Tanimoto, BD Wong, Traci Toguchi, and others also had great supporting roles.

15. The Waterboy (1998)

PG-13 | 90 min | Comedy, Sport

41 Metascore

A waterboy for a college football team discovers he has a unique tackling ability and becomes a member of the team.

Director: Frank Coraci | Stars: Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler, Fairuza Balk

Votes: 178,456 | Gross: $161.49M

Hilarious sports comedy about a simple and socially inept waterboy who's constantly being bullied by the University of Louisiana Cougars football team, and gets fired for "distracting" the players. When he starts working as waterboy for the South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs, they discover he is a savagely fierce tackler, and becomes the star player of the worst college team in the league. Along with Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, this rounds out my favorite trio of Adam Sandler movies. He was superb throughout. I'd have to say it's probably my favorite football movie as well. Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler, and Fairuza Balk, Jerry Reed, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Blake Clark, Jonathan Loughran, and Peter Dante all had great supporting roles.

Director: Peter Hewitt | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, William Sadler, Joss Ackland

Votes: 81,084 | Gross: $38.04M

Fantastic sequel to the bodacious music-inspired comedy adventure classic, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989). Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon are back writing the story, which has a totally unique vibe and plot compared to the first film, making it a most triumphant follow-up. The story follows a most heinous and oppressive leader from the the year 2691 named Chuck De Nomolos who creates evil robot replicas of Bill and Ted to travel back in time to 1991 and kill the real Bill and Ted and take their places, and intend to carry out evil plans laid out by De Nomolos. When the evil robots complete their initial mission, Bill and Ted are sent to Hell where they must duel the Grim Reaper to a contest of board games to get to heaven, then eventually back to earth where they work to destroy the evil Bill and Ted robots, save the babes, and perform a most spectacular set at the Battle of the Bands contest to secure their future legacy. Fantastic film all around, and a great change of pace from the first film. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter both deliver excellent lead performances and have the same great chemistry from the first film. William Sadler (Death/Grim Reaper) also delivered a great starring role. Joss Ackland, George Carlin, Annette Azcuy, Sarah Trigger, Chelcie Ross, Pam Grier, Hal Landon Jr., Amy Stoch, Brendan Ryan, William Thorne, Frank Welker, and others also had great supporting roles.

The Broken Lizard crew is back! Hilarious comedy that follows the former boxing heavyweight and owner of a high-end seafood restaurant, "The Slammin' Salmon". When he loses a bet, he needs to restaurant to earn $20,000 in one night to cover his bets, otherwise he'll lose the restaurant. At the same time, he promises a $10,000 bonus to the top waiter of the evening, and the loser will have their spine used as a jump rope by the champ. It's a silly premise, but the hysterical dialogue and development of all the characters makes this film a personal classic for myself. Kevin Heffernan, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Jay Chandrasekhar, April Bowlby, Cobie Smulders, Steve Lemme, and Michael Clarke Duncan all deliver excellent lead performances. Will Forte, Nat Faxon, Jeff Chase, Carla Gallo, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Olivia Munn, Vivica A. Fox, Morgan Fairchild, Lance Henriksen, and others had great supporting roles.

Director: Tamra Davis | Stars: Adam Sandler, Darren McGavin, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Bradley Whitford

Votes: 156,664 | Gross: $25.59M

Hilarious comedy from Tamra Davis. While this may be the goofiest of the trio, this is probably my favorite Adam Sandler flick alongside Happy Gilmore (1996) and The Waterboy (1998). My love for 90s Saturday Night Live humor wins me over every time. Hysterical story about a 27-year-old man (boy, actually) that must repeat grades 1–12 all over again to prove to his father he isn't an idiot, and is capable of running his Madison Hotel empire when he retires. Adam Sandler delivered an excellent lead performance. Darren McGavin, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Bradley Whitford, Norm MacDonald, Mark Beltzman, Josh Mostel, Larry Hankin, and Chris Farley all had great roles among the great supporting cast.

Hilarious and underrated sports comedy from hysterical film director David Zucker and South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Great story about two best friends and slackers who invent a sport that's a hybrid of baseball and basketball, called "BASEketball". When the sport goes national and there is serious money to be made, a greedy businessman tries to take control and make changes to the sport for his and the stockholders' benefit. Trey Parker and Matt Stone both deliver hilarious and excellent lead performances. Dian Bachar, Ernest Borgnine, Yasmine Bleeth, Robert Vaughn, Jenny McCarthy, Trevor Einhorn, and many others had great supporting roles.

"Rambo" parody in which Topper Harley leads a rescue team into Iraq to save Iraqi war prisoners and all of their previous rescue teams.

Director: Jim Abrahams | Stars: Charlie Sheen, Lloyd Bridges, Valeria Golino, Richard Crenna

Votes: 97,427 | Gross: $38.91M

Hilariously underrated action-packed comedy from Jim Abrahams, and even better than the first Hot Shots film from 1991. This time the story sets up a "Rambo" parody which follows retired Navy pilot Topper Harley jumping back into active duty, and leading a rescue mission into Iraq to rescue the last rescue team, who went in to rescue the rescue team before that, who who went in to rescue hostages left behind after Desert Storm. One of the hostages he must rescue is the husband of his past love, Ramada, who he's never gotten over. Excellent story, and fantastic satire and spoof comedy for similarly clichéd 80s action flicks. Superbly done from start to finish, and it is still a hysterical film today. This is my all-time favorite lead performance from Charlie Sheen. He was phenomenal throughout. Lloyd Bridges, Valeria Golino, Richard Crenna, Brenda Bakke, Miguel Ferrer, Jerry Haleva, Jerry Haleva, Rowan Atkinson, David Wohl, Ryan Stiles, Martin Sheen, and so many others has great roles among the supporting cast.

Votes: 142,040 | Gross: $38.09M

I loved this first Harold & Kumar film and this one may be even better! John Cho & Kal Penn are a great duo just like Bill & Ted or Jay & Silent Bob. Neil Patrick Harris was great again, as was Danneel Ackles, and Roger Bart. Rob Corddry was one of my favorites as the lead police investigator.

Hysterical comedy from Alan Metter that follows a wealthy and heavyset middle-aged businessman named Thorton Melon who owns a large chain of clothing stores for overweight people. When his son Jason informs him that he wants to drop out of the prestigious college he attends because he doesn't fit in, Thorton informs his nasty and cheating wife that he wants a divorce, and decides it's a great time for a life change, and heads out to attend college alongside his son Jason to help him succeed. And many things hilariously go wrong. Rodney Dangerfield was absolutely fantastic. I'd have to say it's his best lead performance of all time. Hilarious writing and a great story keeps this film in rotation at least once per year for me. It never fails to deliver laughs. Keith Gordon, Sally Kellerman, and Paxton Whitehead also have excellent starring roles. Burt Young, Terry Farrell, Robert Downey Jr., M. Emmet Walsh, Adrienne Barbeau, William Zabka, Ned Beatty, Sam Kinison, and many others had excellent supporting roles.

Fantastic family adventure from Walter Murch. The original Wizard of Oz (1939) is clearly the best in the franchise, but I've always enjoyed this movie a bit more for its thrilling horror appeal, and also because it's not a musical. The story is set in 1899 rural Kansas, and follows Dorothy being admitted to a mental hospital to electronically remove her past troubling memories of Oz, which has given her a severe case of insomnia. After arriving in the hospital, she learns they want to perform dangerous and experimental electroshock treatment to remove her memories. Thanks to a power outage, she escapes from the hospital with help from a mysterious ghostly girl, and is magically swept away to the land of Oz once again. But when she gets there, Oz looks like a wasteland, and she soon learns that the evil woman named Mombi and the Nome King have destroyed the otherworldly land. Dorothy teams up an army robot named Tik-Tok, Jack Pumpkinhead, and Gump, and they travel to the Nome King's palace to reverse their actions, and restore her friends Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Tin Man to their normal selves, along with the rest of Oz. This was Fairuza Balk's first movie, and she delivered a fantastic lead performance as Dorothy. Nicol Williamson, Jean Marsh, Piper Laurie, Sean Barrett, Denise Bryer, Brian Henson, Lyle Conway, Justin Case, Emma Ridley, Sophie Ward, Fiona Victory, Pons Maar, and others also had great supporting roles.

Soon the Nazi brainwashing and special privileges exceptional Nazi youths receive put the group of young friends add serious odds that has them all questioning what's right and wrong. Robert Sean Leonard delivers one of his all-time best performances, and Christian Bale also has a superb lead role. Frank Whaley, Barbara Hershey, Tushka Bergen, David Tom, Jayce Bartok, and plenty others have great supporting roles. Superb swinging jazz soundtrack/score included as well.

Severely underrated coming-of-age comedy from Amy Heckerling. Great 90s time capsule about a rich, popular, and beautiful high-school girl who's trying to make the best of her adolescent life. From leading her clique of friends, to transforming the new girl into an admired addition to the school, to playing matchmaker with her teachers to improve her grades, to fashion, boys, partying, drugs, and other typical challenges teenagers face. I had a huge crush on Alicia Silverstone back in the day, and she is absolutely perfect in for this role. Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, Donald Faison, and Dan Hedaya all had great roles among the supporting cast.

Hilarious comedy about a totally weird and screwy detective who specialized in finding a rescuing lost pets. He's in for the case of his life when the Miami Dolphins mascot "Snowflake" has been stolen to plague the team with superstition to ensure they'll lose the Super Bowl. Things get even hairier when Dan Marino is kidnapped. This is my favorite performance and character in Jim Carrey's entire filmography. It fits his animated personality perfectly. Courteney Cox, Sean Young, Tone Loc, Dan Marino, Troy Evans, and plenty others had great supporting roles.

Fantastic fantasy adventure from Randal Kleiser that follows a 12-year-old boy named David Freeman who mysteriously goes missing in 1978 when he's walking through the woods and accidentally knocks himself out by falling into a ravine. When he wakes up to walk out of the ravine, the year is 1986. He hasn't aged, nor does he have any memories from the past 8 years. NASA scientists work tirelessly to figure out a link between David and a mysterious spaceship they know very little about. When the spaceship starts to communicate with David telepathically, David is drawn to board the ship that's run by an alien robot, and decides to escape and take the magical ship on an adventure back home. Big nostalgic pick for me, and it's still a great film today. Joey Cramer delivered an excellent lead performance as David, and Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) was superb as the ship's intelligent alien pilot, Max. One of the better of its genre in the 80s. I still enjoy this movie to this day. Cliff De Young, Veronica Cartwright, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Adler, and Howard Hesseman all had very nice supporting roles.

Definitely my favorite Dwayne Johnson flick. Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all presented at their best as well. Great movie and worthy of multiple viewings.

Excellent action-packed drama from Tony Scott that follows US Navy Lieutenant and skilled fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and his RIO Lieutenant Nicholas "Goose" Bradshaw after earning a spot at the prestigious elite flying school "Top Gun" to be trained as the best of the best aviators in the world. Maverick is known for his cocky and daring brand of flying, which catches the attention and concern of his peers and superiors. When tragedy strikes during a dogfighting training exercise, it derails Maverick's life as he attempts pick up the pieces and pursue his dream as a top pilot in his class. I loved this movie growing up, and still do. It absolutely screams "1980s" and has a charm and flair that still makes it wildly entertaining today. Also notable is the soundtrack, which I is arguably the best movie soundtrack ever created. From the opening anthem, to Kenny Loggins, Cheap Trick, Teena Marie, Berlin, Miami Sound Machine, Otis Redding, The Righteous Brothers...it's perfection through and through. Tom Cruise delivers my all-time favorite performance of his. Even if it isn't critically his best, he was perfect for the role. Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis, Tom Skerritt, and Val Kilmer also had great starring roles. Meg Ryan, James Tolkan, Michael Ironside, Barry Tubb, Rick Rossovich, John Stockwell, Tim Robbins, Whip Hubley, and others also had great supporting roles.

Hilarious action-packed comedy adventure/western from Richard Donner loosely based on the 1950s TV show, which follows a charming and quick-witted gambler named Maverick who's traveling across country to enter a winner-take-all poker tournament, and comically runs into many obstacles as he gambles his way to his destination to earn enough money for his entry fee. Mel Gibson as Maverick is one of my favorite characters in cinema. He was superb. Jodie Foster delivers a similarly breath-taking performance as Annabelle Bransford. James Garner (Maverick from the original 1950s TV show) was also excellent. Graham Greene, Alfred Molina, James Coburn, and Max Perlich all had excellent supporting roles.

Unique, action-packed, and underrated Quentin Tarantino crime thriller that sets up two very different correlating stories in which a group of beautiful young women are stalked by a former Hollywood stuntman, who uses his reinforced 1969 Dodge Charger to lure, frighten, and kill his victims. I Love the low budget Grindhouse feel. The dialogue and feel of the film is very different, with lots of unexpected turns and an absolutely superb ending. Kurt Russell delivers one of his best performances in my book. He was awesome. Zoë Bell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Tracie Thoms, and Rose McGowan all has great roles among a solid supporting cast.

However, the greedy and corrupt head of VHF network Channel 8 takes action to buy and destroy Channel 62 after they start beating them in the ratings. Fantastic writing and spoofs at every turn. It's right up there with slapstick greats like Airplane (1980) and The Naked Gun (1988). The story is unique and well laid out throughout the film. 'Weird Al' Yankovic delivers a fantastic lead performance. David Bowe, Michael Richards, and Kevin McCarthy also had excellent starring roles. But plans go haywire this year when he befriends a lonely and troubled kid, and has a change of heart about his way of life. Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, Bernie Mac, and John Ritter are all superb. Hilarious sports comedy about an aspiring hockey player named Happy Gilmore that has a massively powerful slap shot, but really can't skate, and his "goon" like behavior keeps him off the ice. After his grandmother's house goes into foreclosure, he decides to join the PGA Tour thanks to a veteran golf pro/trainer, to use that massive power shot to win enough money to buy his grandma's house back. Many hilarious iconic characters and situations present themselves along the way. I'd have to say this is the best golf film since "Caddyshack" (1980). Being an 80s baby and obsessed with 90s era SNL as a kid, early Adam Sandler flicks are some of my favorites. One of his best performances. I still love this movie today. Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin), Carl Weathers (Chubbs), Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, Allen Covert, Bob Barker, and Richard Kiel all have great supporting roles.

Excellent music-inspired comedy from Penelope Spheeris and Mike Myers. Since I'm an 80s baby and grew up with Saturday Night Live in the 1990s, this is probably my all-time favorite Saturday Night Live film. The story follows a fun-loving and hard-rocking underachiever named Wayne Campbell who lives with his parents and has a blast running his public-access cable TV show "Wayne's World" with his like-minded best friend, Garth Algar. The show has made them local celebrities in local concert venues, Stan Mikita Donuts cafe, and elsewhere around the city. Their popularity catches the attention of a television producer named Benjamin, who has corrupt plans to exploit the show and steal Wayne's girlfriend in the process. Excellent story and cast all around. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey both arguably deliver their all-time best lead performances. Tia Carrere and Rob Lowe also had excellent starring roles. Many things comically go wrong with the ship, and Captain Ron is far from an expert sailor—let alone a competent one. But through all the heartache and catastrophes, the family grows closer than they've ever been before. Hilarious story with a great cast. I'm often puzzled why this movie is rated so low, since Kurt Russell delivers one of his funniest and best lead performances. I'd have to say the same for Martin Short. Mary Kay Place, Benjamin Salisbury, and Meadow Sisto also had great starring roles among a solid supporting cast.

But soon after, they discover the Sasquatch is a kind, caring, and loving creature that they nickname "Harry", and decide to help keep him safe and out of sight. But when some local hunters and a Bigfoot hunter named Jacques Lafleur learn about his location, Harry's life is in danger, and it's up to the Henderson family to save him. Underrated story all around with a great cast of actors. John Lithgow, Melinda Dillon, Kevin Peter Hall (Harry), Margaret Langrick, and Joshua Rudoy all have excellent lead performances. David Suchet, Don Ameche, and M. Emmet Walsh also had great supporting roles.

The equally strait-laced and "by-the-book" nephew of Joe Friday must work with his more laid-back partner to solve a mystery.

Director: Tom Mankiewicz | Stars: Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks, Christopher Plummer, Harry Morgan

Votes: 37,458 | Gross: $57.39M

Hilarious crime comedy/mystery from Tom Mankiewicz. I've never seen the original Dragnet TV series, but I've always loved this comical rendition of what I understand is a serious over-the-top no-nonsense crime drama series from the 1950s. Friday is a serious strait-laced detective who does everything by the book, while Streebek has a wisecracking care-free personality. They must team up to bust open a case involving mysterious ritual killings surrounding a cult run by a corrupt man named Whirley. The dialogue and situations are hilarious and full of satire. The film still holds strong today. Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks both delivered excellent lead performances. Christopher Plummer and Alexandra Paul also had great starring roles. Harry Morgan, Jack O'Halloran, Dabney Coleman, Kathleen Freeman, and plenty others all have very nice supporting roles.

One of my favorite under-the-radar music inspired crime comedies. Perfect for the alternative rock/grunge fans of the 90s. Great story about 3 metal-heads who break into the most popular rock station in town in hopes of getting their demo played live on the air. When their initial plans go awry, they hold everyone hostage with real-looking water guns as many things comically go wrong with their demands and attempts to get their music to the people. Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Sandler all deliver fantastic lead performances as The Lone Rangers. Joe Mantegna, Michael McKean, Judd Nelson, Michael Richards, Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, Amy Locane, Nina Siemaszko, and Marshall Bell all had great supporting roles.

Votes: 16,559 | Gross: $14.28M

Underrated comedy drama/adventure from Todd Holland and easily the best 1980s video game inspired film of all-time. The story follows a troubled boy named Corey and his 9-year-old half-brother Jimmy who suffers from a mental disorder after his sister drowned years earlier. After a family quarrel, they decide to run away to California where they have great memories of the past. They run into a nomadic girl named Haley along the way, and they soon learn Jimmy is a video game "wizard". After seeing advertisement for a huge video game tournament in California with a $50,000 grand prize, they work to get him to the tournament as they run into all sorts of comedic and drama-filled debacles along their adventure. Anyone who grew up with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) would find this movie extremely nostalgic. There really isn't a single movie out there quite like it. While it isn't the best film ever, I still love this movie to this day. It also has a great soundtrack. Fred Savage, Luke Edwards, and Jenny Lewis all deliver excellent lead performances and have great chemistry together. Beau Bridges, Christian Slater, and Will Seltzer also had great starring roles. Jackey Vinson, Frank McRae, Wendy Phillips, Sam McMurray, and Steven Grives also had great supporting roles.

Excellent take on the classic 1970s TV series with a hilarious and modern twist. The concept of these good-natured and cheesy characters entering the clashing alternative era of the 90s made for a great story as we follow the Brady's doing everything they can to raise $20,000 to pay overdue property taxes before the house is sold. Underrated comedy with repeat watching value. Shelley Long (Carol), Gary Cole (Mike), Christine Taylor (Marcia), Christopher Daniel Barnes (Greg), Jennifer Elise Cox (Jan), Paul Sutera (Peter), Olivia Hack (Cindy), Jesse Lee Soffer (Bobby), Henriette Mantel (Alice), Florence Henderson (Grandma), Michael McKean, and several others have excellent performances.

Fascinating sci-fi comedy drama from Jonathan Kaplan that's based on a true story, which follows an American Air Force pilot named Jimmy Garrett who's been assigned to care for chimpanzees that are being used in mysterious flying experiments in a program named "Project X". An extremely intelligent chimp named Virgil is sent into the program. Jimmy ends up forming an unlikely bond for Virgil, and really begins to enjoy his work there. However, tension comes in the play when Jimmy finds out something terrible is happening to these chimps during and after experiments, and works to expose the project's secrets and free the chimps. Underrated film all around, and great for animal lovers. Matthew Broderick delivers an excellent lead performance along with Willie the chimp (as Virgil). Helen Hunt and William Sadler also had great starring roles. Johnny Ray McGhee, Stephen Lang, Jean Smart, and all the superbly trained chimps gave great supporting roles.

Great family comedy and sequel to one of the most overlooked TV film trilogies in Disney's collection. The story follows the curious and clueless teenage android Chip after evolving so much from the first film. Now he's on his way to college! All sorts of comical situations and awkward dealings with students and teachers present themselves. From struggling to fit in with the cool crowd, to fighting a relentless computer virus he accidentally intakes, to meeting another human-like android, Roberta, it's a fun and entertaining ride throughout. Jay Underwood, Alan Thicke, Robyn Lively, and Katie Barberi all deliver great lead performances. Greg Mullavey, Dey Young, and Scott Nell also delivered very nice supporting roles.

Director: Stephen Sommers | Stars: Elijah Wood, Courtney B. Vance, Robbie Coltrane, Jason Robards

Votes: 9,248 | Gross: $24.10M

Underrated family adventure from Stephen Sommers, and an excellent adaptation of Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel. The story is set in 1840s Missouri, and follows an independent and mischievous boy named Huck Finn who escapes from his violently drunk ex-con father that kidnapped him and toyed with the idea of killing him and collecting the insurance money. After Huck fakes his own death to ensure nobody will come after him, he embarks on a great journey down the Mississippi river when he comes across his friend Jim, who is a slave that his guardians own. After finding out that he ran away to keep from being sold to different owners, they team up to find their way to freedom where Jim can buy his family back. A great adventure of drama, mishaps, racial discrimination, and near-death experiences awaits their journey to freedom. Elijah Wood delivered a fantastic lead performance as Huck Finn. He was perfect for the role. Courtney B. Vance also delivered one of his best and most memorable starring roles as Jim. Robbie Coltrane, Jason Robards, Ron Perlman, Anne Heche, Paxton Whitehead, Dana Ivey, James Gammon, Paxton Whitehead, Tom Aldredge, Mary Louise Wilson, and several others had great supporting roles.

Underrated and hilarious crime comedy from Ivan Reitman that follows a burly and highly skilled Los Angeles police detective named John Kimble who goes undercover as a Kindergarten teacher at a suburban Oregon elementary school in order to locate a drug dealer's son and ex-wife who have been successfully hiding from him for years until he finally learns of their whereabouts. He's helped by his comical sidekick Phoebe O'Hara, and pursues a relationship with a beautiful mother named Joyce who he believes is his target. Things heat up as the boy's drug dealing father finds his exact location. This is one of my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger films because it combines his superb action star skills with very clever comedy. It still stands a hilarious and effective blend that entertains today. Penelope Ann Miller, Pamela Reed, and Richard Tyson also deliver excellent starring roles. Linda Hunt, Carroll Baker, Christian Cousins, and several other kindergartners had excellent supporting roles.

Totally underrated (and lost?) Disney TV family comedy that follows a scientist named Dr. Jonas Carson who invents an android teenager named Chip and ends up adopting him as his son. He experiments with Chip by sending him to school alongside his daughter and Chip's new sister, Becky. Jonas also lands a job as a science teacher so he can keep a close eye on him. Many hilarious situations come up with Chip's lack of knowledge about people and the world, and finds him overcoming several challenges. Tensions come into play when Jonas' former employer discovers their secret, and tries to steal Chip to make a profit. Great story, and an excellent way to kick off the trilogy. Jay Underwood was perfect for the role, and arguably delivers his best lead performance. Alan Thicke, Robyn Lively, and Joseph Bologna also deliver great starring roles among a solid supporting cast.

Hilarious comedy from the Wayans Brothers that perfectly spoofs teen horror flicks like "Scream" (1996) and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (1997). Great plot, which follows a group of half-baked high-schoolers who are being stalked by a serial killer after accidentally killing a man a year earlier in a car accident. It's so well done, that I'd rather watch this over all the films they're spoofing. Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, returns from a spiritual quest to investigate the disappearance of a rare white bat, the sacred animal of a tribe in Africa.

Director: Steve Oedekerk | Stars: Jim Carrey, Ian McNeice, Simon Callow, Maynard Eziashi

Votes: 233,631 | Gross: $108.39M

Excellent sequel with a bit more over-the-top antics than the first Ace Ventura film. Hilarious story about Ace traveling to Africa to track down a lost sacred white bat which keeps between peace between two African tribes that would normally go to war without its presence. Jim Carrey delivered another excellent performance with his wildly animated silliness. Ian McNeice, Simon Callow, Maynard Eziashi, Bob Gunton, Sophie Okonedo, and Tommy Davidson all had very nice supporting roles.

Director: Alan Rafkin | Stars: Don Knotts, Barbara Rhoades, Jackie Coogan, Don 'Red' Barry

Votes: 3,021

Very funny comedy western from Alan Rafkin set in 1870, and follows a jumpy and naive Philadelphia dentist named Jesse W. Haywood who decides to travel west for work, and "to fight oral ignorance". He ends up meeting and marrying a strong and beautiful stagecoach robbing gunslinger named Penelope "Bad Penny" Cushing, who initially has selfish ulterior motives for entering into the relationship with Haywood. If you like westerns and Don Knotts, this should be a no-brainer. Very funny and light-hearted comedy western. He delivered a great lead performance as he usually does. Barbara Rhoades was also great. Jackie Coogan, Don 'Red' Barry, Ruth McDevitt, Frank McGrath, Pat Morita, and others also had great supporting roles.

Three actors accept an invitation to a Mexican village to perform their onscreen bandit fighter roles, unaware that it is the real thing.

Director: John Landis | Stars: Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short, Alfonso Arau

Votes: 83,732 | Gross: $39.25M

Hilarious comedy western from John Landis set in 1916, and follows three washed up out-of-work silent western film stars named Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms and Ned Nederlander. After getting fired from their jobs, they receive a telegram from the small impoverished Mexican village of Santo Poco, who has mistaken them for actual gunfighting heroes like they have seen in their movies. The Amigos believe they are being paid for a movie role, but they are actually being paid to stop the evil and infamous El Guapo and his band of vandals who are taking over their land and killing their people. Great story and definitely one of my childhood favorites. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short all deliver possibly my favorite lead performances from each of them. They had fantastic chemistry together throughout the film. Alfonso Arau also delivered a fantastic starring role as El Guapo. Patrice Martinez, Tony Plana, Kai Wulff, Joe Mantegna, Fred Asparagus, Benita Andre, Dyana Ortelli, Loyda Ramos, Rebecca Ferratti, and others also had great supporting roles.

81. Dutch (1991)

PG-13 | 107 min | Comedy, Drama

To get to know his girlfriend's son, a working-class good guy volunteers to pick him up from his prep school, only to learn that he isn't the nicest young man.

Director: Peter Faiman | Stars: Ed O'Neill, Ethan Embry, JoBeth Williams, Christopher McDonald

Votes: 14,371 | Gross: $4.60M

Underrated comedy drama from John Hughes that follows an honest working-class man named Dutch Dooley who offers to pick up his girlfriend's crude and snobbish son Doyle Standish from the extravagant Georgia boarding school he attends, and drive him to his Mom's home in Chicago for Thanksgiving. From the moment they meet, they are at total war with each other. Dutch could easily throw in the towel and quit, but he loves Doyle's mom so much, that he's determined to get him back for the holiday. Hilarious antics take place early on with Dutch's methods of "tough love", but they do start to make a connection as the grueling road trip moves along. This is one of John Hughes' finest films, and I never understood why it wasn't a huge hit. Ed O'Neill and Ethan Embry do a great job of antagonizing each other throughout the film, and delivered excellent lead performances. JoBeth Williams, Christopher McDonald, Ari Meyers, and Elizabeth Daily all had nice roles among the supporting cast.

Great sequel that upholds the quality of the first two Naked Gun films. This time we find Frank Drebin happily coming out of retirement and going undercover to stop a dangerous terrorist from bombing the Academy Awards ceremony. Leslie Nielsen (Frank), Priscilla Presley (Jane), George Kennedy (Ed), and O.J. Simpson (Nordberg) all return and deliver great lead performances. Director: Michael Schultz | Stars: Sheila E., Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, Jam Master Jay

Votes: 3,553 | Gross: $11.05M

Great 80s hip-hop inspired comedy drama from Michael Schultz that's based on the early days of the highly influential hip-hop and R&B label, Def Jam Recordings. The story follows manager Russell Walker as he's signing all the early rap artists like Run-D.M.C., Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and Kurtis Blow, with Rick Rubin handling the production. Being in the early stages of business, trouble comes into play when Russell doesn't have money to press the records, and instead borrows the money from a local street hustler. Sheila E., LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, New Edition, The Fat Boys, Chaka Khan, Debbie Harry, The Gap Band, and Full Force also make appearances. Great material for old-school hip-hop fans. Blair Underwood, Russell Simmons, Lisa Gay Hamilton, and Richard Gant all had great performances along with the aforementioned musical acts/artists.

Director: Rick Rosenthal | Stars: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers, Jeffrey Kramer

Votes: 101,749 | Gross: $25.53M

Great sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic. This time Carpenter and Debra Hill write the screenplay, while Rick Rosenthal handles the direction. The story picks up right where the first movie left off, which blends so well, you could consider the 2 movies one story. After Michael Myers was not killed by Sam Loomis' gun shots from the first film, it immediately finds him terrorizing Laurie Strode in the hospital where she is recovering from the injuries she incurred in the first film. While the film doesn't hold up to the magic of the first film, it is still a solid sequel, and one of the better films in the Halloween franchise. Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence deliver great lead roles once again. Lance Guest, Pamela Susan Shoop, Dick Warlock, Gloria Gifford, and Tawny Moyer also had great starring roles. Ana Alicia, Leo Rossi, Hunter von Leer, Jeffrey Kramer, Charles Cyphers, Ford Rainey, Cliff Emmich, Nancy Stephens, and many others had very nice supporting roles.

Super fun action/adventure comedy about two surfer brothers who learn they are heirs to the throne of Patusan and work to overthrow the current corrupt monarchy. This movie was a ton of fun when I discovered it at 12 years old. Lots of great action, pop culture references, and a nice soundtrack to heighten the fun. Ernie Reyes Sr. and Nicolas Cowan had great lead performances. Rob Schneider and Leslie Nielsen were also nice additions.

Director: David S. Ward | Stars: John Goodman, Peter O'Toole, John Hurt, Camille Coduri

Votes: 16,955 | Gross: $34.00M

Hilarious and underrated comedy from David S. Ward that follows a tacky Las Vegas lounge singer named Ralph Jones who becomes King of the United Kingdom after an electrical accident wipes out the entire British Royal Family, and it's found Ralph is the only surviving heir to the throne. Many comical situations present themselves as Ralph adjusts to a life of responsibility and sophistication, and things really heat up when he meets an exotic dancer named Miranda, which greatly embarrasses the royal family and the country. This film is poorly rated, but I've always liked it, and always felt it was one of John Goodman's best lead performances. Peter O'Toole, John Hurt, and Camille Coduri also had great starring roles. Richard Griffiths, Leslie Phillips, James Villiers, Joely Richardson, Julian Glover, Rudolph Walker, and others also had very nice supporting roles.

Great action-packed family comedy from Jon Turteltaub that follows a master in ninjutsu and grandfather to three brothers who spend their summer training to be skilled ninjas. When they are completed with their training, he gives them all names: Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum. When their father and F.B.I. agent gets too close to a dangerous criminal who's connected to their family, their skills are put to the ultimate test as they help their grandfather take the crime ring down. While there is nothing groundbreaking about this film, it's super entertaining, and I find myself watching it almost once per year even as an adult. Victor Wong, Michael Treanor, Max Elliott Slade, and Chad Power all deliver great lead performances. Rand Kingsley, Alan McRae, Jessica Douglas, ands the the trio of stoner kidnappers (Patrick Labyorteaux, Race Nelson, D.J. Harder) had great supporting roles, among others.

Ostracised villain John Kreese attempts to gain revenge on Daniel and Miyagi, with the help of a Vietnam War comrade, the wealthy owner of a toxic waste disposal business.

Director: John G. Avildsen | Stars: Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Robyn Lively, Thomas Ian Griffith

Votes: 69,194 | Gross: $38.96M

Solid and entertaining sequel in the Karate Kid universe from John G. Avildsen. While this is the weakest film in the franchise (with Ralph Macchio), it still has its shining moments, and maps out a large portion of the story that makes up the Cobra Kai (2018–2024) Netflix series. After John Kreese and Cobra Kai were defeated in the previous films, Kreese contacts his now rich and successful Vietnam War buddy Terry Silver to help take revenge against Daniel and Miyagi. And they do so in the most brutal fashion! Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita both deliver very nice lead performances, but neither are their best. Thomas Ian Griffith, Martin Kove, and Sean Kanan (Mike Barnes) had the best performances, and really amped up the Cobra Kai storyline, which is heavily referenced in season 5. Robyn Lively, Jonathan Avildsen, William Christopher Ford, Pat E. Johnson, Gabriel Jarret, and others had solid supporting roles.

Director: Gary Goddard | Stars: Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Meg Foster, Billy Barty

Votes: 44,330 | Gross: $17.34M

Wildly entertaining action-packed sci-fi fantasy adventure from Gary Goddard that follows a courageous and powerful warrior named He-Man who's mission is to stop the evil lord Skeletor from attaining massive power with the help of an invention called the Cosmic Key, which has the ability to open portals to travel anywhere in the galaxy. Soon He-Man and his team find themselves on Earth after the key was transported to California, which turns to full-on war as some local teenagers get involved in the debacle. This flick generally gets poor reviews all around, but it has some charming qualities that I've always liked. I watched this one a ton growing up, and remains a childhood nostalgic favorite. Dolph Lundgren delivered a great lead performance as He-Man, but it was Frank Langella's performance as Skeletor that was the major standout in the cast. Courteney Cox, Billy Barty, Robert Duncan McNeill, Jon Cypher, Chelsea Field, and Meg Foster also had great starring roles. James Tolkan, Christina Pickles, Tony Carroll, Pons Maar, Anthony De Longis, and Robert Towers also had very nice supporting roles.

Very funny family comedy from Dennis Dugan that follows an orphaned 7-year-old troublemaker named Junior who's adopted by a devoted, caring, and loving man named Ben Healy and his selfish, demanding, gold-digging wife Flo. Junior puts on a good front to get adopted, but the poor nuns at the orphanage he's been staying at can't wait to be rid of him. He ends up causing total havoc among their home and family as he pushes them past their breaking points. When the boy teams up with his bow-tie wearing idol, pen pal, and notorious serial killer named Martin Beck who just escaped from prison, Ben has a change of heart and fights to get Junior back. This wacky comedy was always a childhood favorite of mine. Michael Oliver delivers an excellent lead performance as Junior. John Ritter, Michael Richards, Amy Yasbeck, and Jack Warden also delivered great starring roles. Gilbert Gottfried, Peter Jurasik, John William Galt, Melody Jones, and others also had very nice supporting roles.

They replaced director Tim Burton with Joel Schumacher for this film, and the results aren't quite as good. That said, I still enjoyed Val Kilmer as Batman, Jim Carrey as Riddler, and Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face. It's still a very entertaining flick overall. Chris O'Donnell (Robin), Michael Gough (Alfred), Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, and Debi Mazar all had solid roles.

Votes: 12,464 | Gross: $23.51M

Great family comedy from John R. Cherry III, which is essentially the first of 10 films featuring Jim Varney's most popular character of his career—Ernest P. Worrell. Ernest is a simpleminded handyman who works at the Kamp Kikakee summer camp, and aspires to help kids as a guidance councilor. However, he has his work cut out for them when a group of juvenile delinquents are sent to the camp. Meanwhile, the future of the camp is in jeopardy at the hands of a greedy mining corporation. While the Ernest movies are nothing groundbreaking, I've always enjoyed them, and it's because Jim Varney always delivers such a likable character and solid lead performance. This film is my favorite of all the Ernest films. John Vernon, Victoria Racimo, Iron Eyes Cody, Gailard Sartain, and many others also had very nice supporting roles.

Great family comedy and the first Jetsons film since the show started in 1962. His wife Jane, daughter Judy, son Elroy, and robot maid Rosie all move so George can complete Mr. Spacely's goal of manufacturing 1,000,000 space sprockets. Many hilarious situations present themselves as the family adjusts to their new life, and George runs into big troubles with the sprocket factory. I was surprised to see how low rated this film was since it was one of my favorite cartoon movies growing up. Still a solid viewing today. George O'Hanlon, Mel Blanc, Penny Singleton, Tiffany, and Patric Zimmerman all deliver great starring roles. Don Messick, Jean Vander Pyl, Ronnie Schell, Patti Deutsch, Dana Hill, and others also had nice supporting roles.

Jack climbs up the beanstalk to save a beautiful princess that a dreadful giant has kidnapped, and is holding hostage in his castle. This was surprisingly one of my favorite films throughout my childhood. Abbott & Costello are fantastic, and made the film a ton of fun. Easily my favorite rendition of the story. Shaye Cogan, James Alexander, Buddy Baer, Dorothy Ford, David Stollery, Barbara Brown, and others also had excellent supporting roles.
