The 2023 Emmys ceremony celebrated 75 years of television by staging reunions of some of your favorite shows, including FX’s long-running comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Cast members Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito came out on stage and poked fun at the Emmy Awards for never nominating them throughout their 16 seasons (and counting), but is that factually correct? Let’s consult the history books!
While it’s true that “Sunny” has never been nominated for any of the main Primetime categories — i.e. series, acting, writing and directing — the half-hour show did actually receive three bids in the little-known category of Best Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program. “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” lost those three races to Nickelodeon’s “Supah Ninjas” in 2013 and to Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in 2014 and 2015.

While doing press for the recent Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman, star Sophie Thatcher (who is also known for playing the role of teen Natalie on the survival thriller series Yellowjackets) let it be known that she is a major fan of the horror genre. Now she’s continuing to prove it with her career choices, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that she’s following up The Boogeyman by signing on to star in the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian.
Thatcher’s Companion co-stars will include Jack Quaid (Scream 2022), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), Lukas Gage (You), and Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever).

Megan Suri, who will soon be seen in both the final season of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and the horror film It Lives Inside, has signed on to join Jack Quaid (Scream 2022) in the cast of the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team that was behind the horror hit Barbarian. At the start of this year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. They signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them. And they gave a greenlight to the sci-fi thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger, putting the film on the fast track to production. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Jack Quaid of The Boys and last year’s Scream has signed on to star in Companion.

The executives at New Line Cinema were clearly blown away by last year’s horror release Barbarian (watch it Here) – which was distributed by 20th Century Studios – as they have made it very clear over the last week that they are eager to be in business with the creative team behind that film. They made an eight figure deal with writer/director Zach Cregger to ensure that his next movie – something called Weapons – will be a New Line Cinema project. They signed a first look deal with Barbarian producers BoulderLight Pictures so they will develop high concept genre properties for the company. And now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that New Line Cinema has put a thriller called Companion on the fast track to production, with Cregger producing alongside BoulderLight and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

I remember when I became the showrunner of my first live-action series, “Supah Ninjas,” I thought I had arrived.
Somehow, against all odds, this show I created with my partner Eric S. Garcia was shooting on the Paramount lot. On the same stage as “Family Ties.” I was officially a part of Hollywood history. When I set foot on stage, I was surprisingly whisked away by an A.D. “Surely,” I thought, “I was being taken to my fancy director’s chair that would make a killer humble-post on my socials.” But instead, I found myself in the holding area with the extras. I learned two things that day. I did not look like someone’s idea of a showrunner. And the holding area is hard to leave.
It was a good reminder that perception shapes reality – and you can literally be trapped by someone else’s perception. It’s...

A few days ago, we told you that a TV show adaptation of the immensely popular Kingdom Hearts video game series is headed to Disney Plus. And while it’s still early days for the project, we’ve now heard that the Mouse House has already begun to look into possible casting, with the studio said to be interested in a Titans star for the role of Sora.
According to sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who told us a Percy Jackson show is in development and that Disney is making a third National Treasure movie, both of which were correct – the House of Mouse has their eye on Titans star Ryan Potter for the part. He’s not the only actor on their list, but he’s certainly one name that they’re interested in at this stage.

Exclusive: As the Asian and Asian American community in Hollywood continues to bask in the awards season victories of Lulu Wang’s The Farewell and Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (Cape) looks to add to Asian representation with the eighth annual Cape New Writers Fellowship. Partnering with major industry partners, Cape will launch the professional development program which trains emerging writers to succeed in Hollywood.
“As reflected by the Asian and Pacific Islander sweep of the Oscars screenwriting awards last night (original and adapted), it is clear stories written by our community have mainstream appeal,” said Michelle K. Sugihara, Cape Executive Director. “Pipeline programs like the Cape New Writers Fellowship are critical to provide a springboard into the industry and to elevate authentic storytelling.”
Led by top industry writers, producers, agents and executives, the Fellowship was co-founded and is co-chaired by Steve Tao and Leo Chu (Creator/Showrunner of Supah Ninjas and Afro Samurai; Batman Ninja screenwriter).

YouTube Premium’s hit original series “Cobra Kai” has never shied away from fight scenes despite being a comedy. But in the second season of the continuation of the “Karate Kid” story, Emmy-winning stunt coordinator Hiro Koda took things to the next level, including working on a showdown in the high school.
How are the stunts in Season 2 different from the stunts in Season 1?
It’s way more action in Season 2 than there was in the first season. We have a ton of new cast members this season so there’s more action, more fights. The kids continued to train after the first season. They took their break and then got back into training early before the season started. Ryan Potter starred as Hiro Hamada in Disney's Big Hero 6 but now he's vying for a DC superhero role in a big way. Check out the choreographed fight scene he just posted to audition to play Ben Affleck's Robin. Tim Drake is my favorite Robin. There. I said it. So I'm a bit partial to Potter aiming to play him alongside Affleck's Batman. Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman featured a Robin, the already deceased Jason Todd, and Dick Grayson has yet to make an appearance in the current universe. Take a look at the brief choreographed fight Potter participated in to get Affleck's attention... Comic book fans of the world - were you planning on spending your spare cash on anything other than cinema visits and DVD box-sets for the next six years? Well tough, because Hollywood has other ideas.
Ever since Bryan Singer’s X-Men movie jump-started the comic book movie trend in 2000 (building on the stellar work of Richard Donner and Tim Burton in the decades prior), Fox, Sony, Warner Bros., Disney and Marvel Studios have all been repeatedly cashing-in on the resurgent popularity of capes, cowls and anything ending in ‘Man’.

Walt Disney Animation Studios today announced the star voice cast to their upcoming film Big Hero Six and surprisingly, there appears to be no standout A-list star in any major role. On top of all that new information, there's a brand new movie trailer for you to feast your eyes on as well!
[Editor's Update: Disney/Marvel have now revealed an all new trailer for the film, so we figured we'd go ahead and post these all together!
Original article and all the cast information follows below.]
This is not to say any of the actors or actresses are inexperienced as much as it appears the studio is selling the characters themselves over the people who voice them. Most of the performers appear to be up and comers but with an impressive track record of working on big budget projects. However, the list does show James Cromwell and SNL alum Miya Rudolph in supporting roles to round out the cast.
Director Don Hall said of the cast: We’re so impressed with what these performers...

After a few years of hit-or-miss quality films, Disney's animation studio has been on a roll lately with flicks like "Wreck-It Ralph" and "Frozen." It's looking to keep the magic alive with its newest film, "Big Hero 6," the first to feature characters from the Marvel universe.
Disney announced the voice cast behind the titular gang this week, and it's full of faces both familiar and fresh. The "6" are:
- Ryan Potter (of Nickelodeon martial arts comedy "Supah Ninjas" fame), who's playing main character Hiro Hamada, a 14-year-old genius who builds battle-bots.
- Scott Adsit (who played sad-sack producer Pete on "30 Rock"), who will voice Baymax, a plus-size robot built by Hiro who becomes the boy's best friend.
- T.J. Miller ("Silicon Valley," "Transformers: Age of Extinction"), who's voicing Fred, a laidback fanboy with a fire-breathing alter ego.

In an effort to make their D23 Expo the place to find out about all of Disney's latest projects, the studio doesn't have a presence at Comic-Con this summer with the exception of letting Marvel Studios do their thing as usual. But thankfully, the studio has just announced their voice cast. As we already heard T.J. Miller, Jamie Chung and Maya Rudolph are on board, and they'll be joined by Scott Adsit, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, James Cromwell, Alan Tudyk, Daniel Tenney and Ryan Potter. And we also have a first look at our superheroes as well! Look below! Mike and his friends can put their Ninja suits away. Nickelodeon has cancelled Supah Ninjas, opting not to order season three.
Supah Ninjas follows a young man named Mike (Ryan Potter) who, after the death of his grandfather (George Takei), discovers that he comes from a long line of vigilante ninjas. With his best friends (Carlos Knight and Gracie Dzienny), Mike forms a crime-fighting team and they are tutored by a hologram of his late grandfather.
The series began in January 2011. The ratings weren't great but it was renewed for a second season. Those episodes finished airing a couple months ago, on April 27th.
The 38th and final episode ended on a cliffhanger -- Mike is kidnapped by his grandfather's twin brother, Kagema (Takei). Unfortunately, viewers won't get to see what happens next.

Patrick Duffy says he'd like to participate in a Step by Step reunion movie and that it would be interesting to see how the Lambert family grew up. I just hope such a series spawns a serious topical drama that desperately adds a laugh track when ratings tank, giving the Tgif generation a The Bradys of their own.
You've seen me complain that the dark side of a golden age of television is a too-full DVR that make it challenging to keep up with all the good shows (as well as the guilty pleasures and hate watching) available. It also means that shows like Southland and Switched at Birth don't quite get the attention they deserve. I'm still looking for time to get caught up on Game of Thrones, much less time to get to that third episode of Top of the Lake.

Well you don't have to tell me twice, after Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash were awarded the USC Libraries Scripter Award on Saturday I got a feeling the Writers Guild would be going the same way, and just that has happened. Last night the WGA awarded The Descendants for Best Adapted Screenplay while also awarding Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris for Best Original Screenplay. As a result I have had to change my Oscar predictions in the Best Adapted Screenplay category as it would appear all heat was on the adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings's novel and not on Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian's script for Moneyball. You can see those updated predictions right here. In the Original category I have had Allen's script at the top since the beginning and I see no reason to change that now. Granted, The Artist is expected to...

Leven Rambin will star opposite Gerard Butler in the surfing biopic Mavericks. The movie tells the success story of the late big wave soul surfer Jay Moriarty (played by Jonny Weston whom you might know as "Spyder" on "Supah Ninjas"). The 21-year old actress, who played Justin's evil girlfriend Rosie on "Wizards of Waverly Place" and Chloe on "One Tree Hill," will play Moriarty's best friend/crush. Butler (How to Train Your Dragon) will play Rick "Frosty" Hesson who trains Moriarty to surf Mavericks, the dangerous swells in Northern Calfornia that get up to 5 stories high. Curtis Hanson (8 Mile) will direct for Walden Media.
Rambin will next be seen in The Hunger Games where she plays "Glimmer."
