As the Internet is now learning, Glen Powell had a tiny role in 2012’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ playing a trader at the Gotham Stock exchange who ends up a victim of Bane’s (Tom Hardy) wrath. What fans of the film might not know is that Hardy actually slammed Powell’s head into the keyboard on the final take.
Speaking with IMDb, Powell recalled how things went sideways. “He’s supposed to give me a little bit of a tap on the back of the head. So, we did it a few times. We all nail it. It was great. And then this last time … he just slammed my head on the keyboard. And I remember just, like, getting kind of dazed.”
But Powell chalked it up to both actors being immersed in their roles. “I think we all just got kind of caught up in it,” he said.
According to Powell, cinematographer Wally Pfister then joked that he forgot to roll camera, prompting director Christopher Nolan to ask, “You think you can do it again just like that?”
Powell’s response? “Absolutely!”
Nolan then let him off the hook, admitting, “We’re kidding. Go see a medic.”
To celebrate the premiere of Netfix’s ‘Hit Man,’ Powell sat down with IMDb to throw the Ultimate Watch Party by choosing snacks and essentials for screening the film at home.
Watch the interview here
In addition to his Bane encounter, he talked how he and Sydney Sweeney brought realism to their romantic comedy ‘Anyone But You,’ and shared what it’s like collaborating with frequent collaborator director Richard Linklater.

“The Watchers” is the first film directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, the 24-year-old daughter of M. Night Shyamalan. Its title refers to a race of spindly ash-gray monsters who haunt an Irish woods, gathering at night around a concrete fortress where the film’s four characters have holed up in a state of semi-permanent refuge. The building has just one room, an entire wall of which is a two-way mirror through which the Watchers peer, all because..they like to watch.
At the same time, the title could almost be referring to anyone who will watch this movie with eyes on the inevitable question of how much of a chip off the old Shyamalan block it is. Is “The Watchers” a glossy/clever mystery horror thriller? Yes. Did Ishana Night Shyamalan, whose father is one of the producers, write the movie as well as direct it? Yes (though she adapted...

Some of the most boldly assured first features by women in the past 20 years have been horror. Think Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook, Julia Ducournau’s Raw or Rose Glass’ Saint Maud. On the strength of The Watchers, Ishana Night Shyamalan, the 23-year-old daughter of You Know Who, fails to make that list, despite having what appears to be considerable resources thrown at her. While Dakota Fanning does yeoman’s work in the central role, this is basically the usual Irish hooey about faeries and changelings and other pesky entities dressed up in ponderous Jungian doubles theory.
Produced by dad M. Night Shyamalan and adapted from the novel by West Irish author A.M. Shine (apparently a real name), the movie charges right into its souped-up atmospherics, accompanied by Abel Korzeniowski’s hyperventilating score.

Brie Larson showed up to the “Lessons in Chemistry” set ready to play — both figuratively and literally. The Oscar-winner brought with her two huge storage bins filled with games she’d haul to every location.
“I started doing it when I was filming ‘The Marvels’ during the pandemic,” Larson reveals. “We were in bubbles and didn’t have the nor- mal situation where the actors could hang out together and bond. So, my bubble would play games to pass the time.”
She then brought the party to the set of the Apple TV+ limited series, which she also executive produced. Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution at Lionsgate, is betting the upcoming spin off of his Hollywood studio’s film and TV production and library business will become a franchise machine.
“It’s clear it’s going to be an IP-focused company. It’s going to produce, distribute, film and TV,” Packer told the Gabelli Media & Entertainment Symposium during a session that was webcast. He pointed to the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua and set for an April 2025 release.
“The buzz that we’re getting every time a photo gets released is kind of crazy. And I think that’ll be the biggest movie we’ve ever had,” Packer forecast. On the intellectual property front, he also pointed to Lionsgate’s Hunger Games movie series, which has brought in around $3.3 billion in box office to date.

Ashton Kutcher looks at OpenAI’s generative video tool, Sora, as the future of filmmaking.
“I have a beta version of it and it’s pretty amazing,” Kutcher said of the platform in a recent conversation with former Google CEO Eric Schmidt at the Berggruen Salon in Los Angeles.
He added, “You can generate any footage that you want. You can create good 10, 15-second videos that look very real. It still makes mistakes. It still doesn’t quite understand physics. … But if you look at the generation of this that existed one year ago as compared to Sora, it’s leaps and bounds. In fact, there’s footage in it that I would say you could easily use in a major motion picture or a television show.”
The “That ’70s Show” star went on to explain how AI could make filmmaking significantly cheaper.

The trailer for Focus Features’ upcoming movie “Piece by Piece” begins with a Lego-fied Pharrell Williams sitting down for an interview about his life.
“You know what what would be cool is if we told my story with Lego pieces,” Lego Pharrell tells the similarly-bricked director Morgan Neville (the Oscar-winning documentarian behind “20 Feet From Stardom”), who chuckles politely and asks, “Seriously?” Pharrell replies: “Just be open.”
The colorfully and creatively reimagined scene is pretty close to how the conversation played out nearly five years ago, Neville says, as he and Williams sign on to a Zoom chat to discuss how this innovative project came together.
“That’s how the conversation went down in my head,” he tells Variety. “I didn’t know what it was going to be, but it was going to be interesting and I was completely in.”
And the result is unlike anything he’s ever done — or seen — before.

Thailand has some of the most comfortable cinemas in the world, but a film release slate that rarely strays far from the mainstream – mostly Hollywood tentpoles and Thai commercial titles – leaving art-house and documentaries short shrift.
So, the Thursday arrival in Thai cinemas of a documentary feature is a welcome exception to the rule. The politically-charged “Breaking the Cycle,” by Aekaphong Saransate and Thankrit Duangmaneeporn, then is aptly named.
Having had its premiere at Hot Docs in Canada, it now opens on 150 screens across Thailand, in movie houses controlled by the Major Cineplex and Sf Cinemas duopoly.
The film is pitched as “capturing the political awakening among Thais after the rise and fall of Thanathorn, a young politician who calls to end the cycle of coups d’etat in the 2019 election.”
More than that, it is a portrait of the generational, social and aspirational divide between a social media-savvy younger...

“Norway” had an extended festival run including Karlovy Vary and Fantasporto and won a Fipresci prize at Thessaloniki.
“She Loved Blossoms More” is produced by Fenia Cossovitsa (“Two Tickets to Greece”) and executive producers include Christos V. Konstantakopoulos (“The Lobster”), Ant Timpson (“Come to Daddy”) and Andreas Zoupanos Kritikos (“Knock at the Cabin”).

With great action comes great effort. Glen Powell teased “one of the most incredible action sequences of all time” in this summer’s Twisters, coming July 19.
The actor recounted his experience shooting the storm sequence in a Fandango’s Big Ticket interview, which he says “all happens in a oner.” The appearance was pegged to the film’s tickets going on sale.
“We shot that in December, with a rain machine,” Powell says in the clip. “One of the coldest nights I’ve ever experienced, getting dragged across a pool by a wire. I think it was the most physical thing that I’ve ever done.”
Daisy Edgar-Jones, Powell’s Twisters co-star, agrees “completely,” she says.
“You’re talking about humans getting sucked up into a tornado,” Powell continues. “But you’re recreating what it’s like to be getting hit by debris and all that stuff. So you’re...

Daniel Fienberg The shift to a backloaded schedule built around a May 31 deadline for Emmy consideration has drained some of the surprise from the spring TV calendar. Viewers are growing accustomed to a glut of high-profile limited series and prestige returning shows from March to May, with the biggest titles and stars creating their own gravitational fields of self-perpetuating coverage.
Luckily, though, there’s still room for discovery. With its literary pedigree and a budget that burst off the screen in the form of astonishing evocations of 17th century Japan, FX’s Shogun had “prestige” written all over it. Yet the care taken by creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo to deliver this story without having it reek of appropriation and voyeurism was evident throughout. Still, who would have guessed that Shogun would be so successful that the network would want to push forward with future seasons beyond James Clavell’s novel,...
