Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, the prequel series for the filmmaker’s 2012 comedy, has broken a streaming record since its Peacock debut. Knocking the stuffing out of other titles in the streamer’s library, Ted is officially the most-watched original title in Peacock’s history. Signs point to the NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend boosting visibility for the series, as many subscribers signed on to the app to watch the gridiron action.
Peacock’s Ted prequel series hails from Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane, with Max Burkholder playing John Bennett, the role played by Mark Wahlberg in MacFarlane’s 2012 comedy.

Seth Macfarlane’s animated series Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad have become as culturally significant as The Simpsons. With edgy humor and non sequitur galore, MacFarlane segued to the big screen with the fantasy comedy Ted starring Mark Wahlberg about a man-child and his teddy bear who has come alive. Full of gross-out humor and equal amounts of heartfelt comedy, Ted was a smash hit and spawned a sequel. Since then, MacFarlane has made A Million Ways To Die In The West and the more serious science fiction series The Orville. Now, MacFarlane is returning to Ted with a Peacock prequel series that blends the sitcom format of his animated shows with that same blend of crass and feel-good comedy that has become his trademark.

Seth MacFarlane’s Ted has made the leap to the small screen, and we’ve learned that the series will be broadcast on Sky Max in February.
Ted was Seth MacFarlane’s feature directorial debut, and it would be fair to say the film made quite an impact.
Released in 2012, it contained all the profane, puckish humour MacFarlane honed in his years showrunning Family Guy. The plot followed Mark Wahlberg as John, an ageing adolescent who spends his time drinking, getting high and pulling pranks with his best friend, the sentient stuffed toy Ted, while neglecting his relationship with Lori, played by Mila Kunis.
The sequel arrived in 2015 sans Kunis, and didn’t quite hit the same mark. But still: it made a good chunk of money, and that opened the door for a third Ted film. Nine years on, though, and there’s no sign of Ted 3. Instead, MacFarlane...

Plot: In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan and cousin Blaire. Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.
Review: Seth MacFarlane is an acquired taste. Family Guy is the type of series that you either love or hate. When MacFarlane jumped to the big screen with A Million Ways To Die In The West, he showed an aptitude for crude humor in live action. With the Ted films, MacFarlane dove deeper into the heartfelt and feel-good humor underneath all the crass jokes and bodily fluids. I...

Set in 1993, after the opening sequence in Ted (2012), the series depicts the early life of a sentient teddy bear toy named Ted, as he lives with John Bennett (Max Burkholder) and his family in Massachusetts. In addition to John and Ted, the Bennett household includes John’s father Matty (Scott Grimes), his mother Susan (Alanna Ubach), and his cousin, Blaire (Giorgia Whigham), who is living with them while attending a college nearby.
Chatting with stars Max Burkholder and Giorgia Wigham, and writers Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan, we chat about working with Macfarlane and his unique genius for comedy, why Ted still resonates ten years after the first...

Ted, the raunchy R-rated talking bear, is front and center in Peacock’s new event series that delves into the stuffed bear’s past, prior to the Ted films. Seth MacFarlane returns to the world he created as writer, executive producer, director, co-showrunner, and the voice of the talking bear, with Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh serving as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners.
The official trailer confirms Ted’s behavior and language haven’t been cleaned up for the streaming service’s series. No, this is the same trash-talking stuffed bear audiences loved in the 2012 and 2015 movies.

Peacock this morning dropped the official trailer for its new live-action “Ted” prequel event series from creator/executive producer/writer/director/co-showrunner/star Seth MacFarlane that will roll out all seven of its episodes (including a supersized premiere) January 11, 2024, extending the film franchise that produced movies in 2012 and 2015. It promises to take fans “on a hilarious R-rated journey back to the ’90s” along with more of the concept’s signature raunchy humor, eye-popping special effects and a fresh cast of characters played by Max Burkholder (“Parenthood”), Alanna Ubach (“Euphoria”), Scott Grimes (“The Orville”) and Giorgia Whigham (“13 Reasons Why”). They join the iconic teddy bear, Ted, voiced as in the movies by MacFarlane. Watch the trailer above.

Ted TV series trailer: Seth MacFarlane returns to the 90s for a crude coming-of-age comedy flashback
Peacock‘s original event series, Ted, brings you back to the 1990s when Alice in Chains, Cypress Hill, and Snoop Dogg helped shape a generation of digital natives. Ted hails from Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane, with Max Burkholder playing John Bennett, the role played by Mark Wahlberg in MacFarlane’s 2012 comedy. The Ted TV series trailer finds John and Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) attending a hellscape of judgment, adolescent depression, and taboo exploration, otherwise known as high school.
Here’s the official synopsis for Ted courtesy of Peacock:

After the big screen delivered the marijuana and beer-fueled antics of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) and his living teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" franchise, the raunchy debauchery of the longtime friends is coming to Peacock in the form of a prequel TV series. Thankfully, since this is streaming, "Ted" can be just as raunchy as the movies. However, because this is a prequel series, there's no Mark Wahlberg screwing around with Ted. Instead, we have a 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder) enduring the trials and tribulations of high school with Ted by his side, and having a living teddy bear as your best friend in school goes about as well as you'd expect for a teenager in the 1990s.
The "Ted" trailer (watch above) just debuted from Peacock, giving us a blend of your average sitcom with the R-rated comedy of a cable series. After riding a wave...

Ever wondered what happened to John and Ted during their younger years?
That's exactly the gist of Peacock's new series that takes place several years before the two big-screen Ted movies.
The official trailer went public today, which takes us back to 1993 when John is struggling to come to terms with the pressures of being a teenager.
As for Ted, he's being his crude self and is not impressed about being sent to school.
As expected, there's pushback for Ted as he tries to get acclimated to school life, with one student even comparing him to a dog.
That isn't nice, but in true Ted fashion, he isn't ready to allow someone to talk down to him in school.
There's plenty of the signature wit from the movies, but there's this concern that the show won't be able to sustain that level of humor over a seven-episode season.

The official trailer for Peacock’s upcoming Ted series has dropped, and it gives viewers a clearer look at how Ted the Bear and his best friend John Bennett try to survive the awkwardness of high school in the 1990s.
Created by Seth MacFarlane, the R-rated series — at least from the trailer — seems to hit all the right nostalgia notes with music from The Proclaimers, lots of big hair, piano key neckties and a brief glimpse of a classic Volkswagen Golf convertible.
The series takes place in 1993, right after Ted’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend John. In the clip, we see Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) and John (Max Burkholder) negotiating school without much success but also trying to get laid and high, all the things audiences have come to expect from the comedy franchise.

Seth MacFarlane’s Ted makes the leap to the small screen in January, here’s the teaser trailer for the TV show.
Ted was Seth MacFarlane's feature directorial debut, and heck, did it make an impact.
Released in 2012, it contained all the profane, puckish humour Macfarlane honed in his years showrunning Family Guy. The plot followed Mark Wahlberg as John, an ageing adolescent who spends his time drinking and getting high with the titular Ted, a sentient stuffed toy, while neglecting his relationship with Mila Kunis’ Lori.
The sequel arrived in 2015, and didn’t quite hit the same mark. But still: it make a good chunk of money, and that opened the door for a third Ted movie. Eight years on, though, and there’s no sign of Ted 3. Instead? Well, the idea has taken the television route for now.

Ted is making his comeback in a brand new series on Peacock!
The upcoming show takes place in the nineties, years before the two films, and will feature Seth MacFarlane returning as the voice of the bear.
“Our series is a prequel to the Ted movies. It takes place in the nineties but is based on the timeless truth that being sixteen sucks. The only thing that makes it tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend is a has-been magical teddy bear with a foul mouth and a proclivity for drug use,” Seth, and co-showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, shared in a statement.
Now, we have a first look teaser and the premiere date has been revealed!

Seth MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed bear Ted is back with a message for his future self.
“Dear future Ted, it’s me, 1993 Ted. If you’re reading this, it means we got a new series on the most successful streaming platform ever,” he says, before his future self quips — “Eh, we got a new series.”
“Is the future amazing? I bet NASA sends people to the moon all the time,” 1993 Ted adds, to which his future self replies: “Moon colony? Negative. Unlimited porn in our pockets? Check.”
“Anyway, I can’t wait to see your world of flying cars, normal weather and new TV characters that don’t just rehash old stuff,” 1993 Ted concludes his letter, to which future Ted jokes: “Poor bum, had so much hope.”

“Modern Family” has landed a cable run at Warner Bros. Discovery’s TBS network starting Sept. 25.
The ABC sitcom, which ran for 11 total seasons from 2009 to 2020, will air on TBS for a three-hour block on weekdays — specifically from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The licensing by the cable outlet marks an attempt to bolster its comedy options.
Previously, “Friends” and “Young Sheldon” have occupied the hours that “Modern Family” will run. Both shows will remain on the network. Monday saw longer daily marathons of “The Big Bang Theory” on TBS.
“Our audience continually seeks out popular comedies like ‘Friends,’ ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Modern Family,’ so now that we have all three of these iconic series on TBS, we can build an even bigger, more engaged audience,” said Julie Taylor, chief of Content Strategy & Insights, US Networks Group, Warner Bros. Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli exchanged "I dos" in Palm Springs in March, and their nuptials were as stunning as you'd expect. The couple, who met on the set of Orange Is the New Black, both opted for stunning white outfits designed by Christian Siriano for the ceremony and later slipped into something a little more comfortable for the reception. The celebration began with an outdoor ceremony set to the tune of "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan and was officiated by Samira's parents. It then continued with the newlyweds making a grand entrance at their reception with Justin Bieber's "Baby" playing in the background. The guests, which included fellow Oitnb costar Danielle Brooks, who sang Sara Bareilles's "I Choose You," also munched on confetti wedding cake. Workplace, a single-camera comedy from Modern Family executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, has landed at CBS with a put pilot commitment. 20th Century Fox TV is the studio. As the title suggests, the project is a workplace comedy. It is set in a three-story building with three seemingly separate businesses: a one-hit-wonder app developer; a real estate company grudgingly shared by a divorced couple; and a cafe run by two sisters, one of whom hasn't worked a…...

Movies made by women directors were snubbed by the Producers Guild of America when they announced the nominees today! Both "Selma" by Ava DuVernay and "Unbroken" by Angelina Jolie were left in the dust. I agree with not nominating the latter movie (sorry Ms. Jolie but "Unbroken" is too earnest for my taste) but "Selma" deserved a nod! It's a profound movie aided by DuVernay's skilled directing and David Oyelowo's fine performance as Martin Luther King Jr.
You know who I'm blaming for this? Paramount! The studio did not send screeners to Academy voters. Heck, they did not sent one to us, the Broadcast Film Critics Association. But after begging, they did send a link so I could watch "Selma" in time for our Critics' Choice Movie Award nominations.
"Selma" is a "late to the party" entry that is gaining momentum dashed by the PGA! If you remember, Clint Eastwood...

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) added to the industry mix Monday morning with a list of 10 nominees to keep the awards season grist mill churning. "Gone Girl" popped up again, and it shouldn't be a surprise. It's one of the year's biggest hits. And speaking of hits, I had a hunch "Nightcrawler" would find a place after becoming such a well-liked, profitable success. There it sits. The question for both of these films is whether this on-going industry/guild love ends up translating to Oscar recognition. After the "Dragon Tattoo" rush a few years ago, I'm pretty much wait-and-see on stuff like this. Absent from the list was anything out of the Marvel Studios comic book factory, notable as both "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" were both on the top tier of box office earners in 2014. The former currently maintains the throne, though it...

You can tell when sitcom writers have seen far too many sitcoms and when they have not. Writers who have seen enough half-hour situational comedies have a problem compiling storylines and jokes that feel entirely fresh, since so much of their humour stockpile comes from scenarios they have seen before. I feel that the Modern Family writers, as the show reaches the end of its fifth season, are doing everything they can to keep the comedy fresh and funny. Almost every time you are certain the series is going to zig one direction with a character or story this season, it zags.
That originality and zaniness is what makes the simply titled “Las Vegas” such a pleasure. The first half of the episode sets up some rather generic Sin City-type scenarios, yet the second half delights, as it pivots at what could happen and unleashes some frantic, funny misunderstandings...

Oscar Race Up in the Air? Space Thriller and Slave Drama in First-Ever Tie at Producers Guild Awards
Producers Guild of America Awards 2014: ‘Gravity’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ tie for Best Picture (photo: ‘Gravity’) Earlier this evening, January 19, 2014, the Alfonso Cuarón-directed Gravity and the Steve McQueen-directed 12 Years a Slave shared the Producers Guild of America’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures — in other words, the PGA’s Best Picture Award. That’s the first such tie in the PGA Awards’ 24-year history. A mix of adventure thriller and mother-love soap opera, Gravity was written by Alfonso Cuarón and his son, Jonás Cuarón. The Cuaróns’ film received ten Academy Award nominations, but failed to be shortlisted for its screenplay. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star. Based on the story of a free black man forced into slavery in the mid-19th century United States, 12 Years a Slave stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt (who also co-produced the film), and...

One of the most up-in-the-air Academy Award races in memory just got even more unpredictable. For the first time in its 25-year history, the Producers Guild Awards—generally considered the most reliable predictor of which film will take home the Best Picture Oscar—ended in a tie. Plenty of groups give out awards for excellence in film and television at the end of every year, but no set of nominations is watched more carefully by Oscar predictors than the picks from the Producers Guild. That’s because year after year their choices end up being a fairly good indicator of which films will also be granted Best Picture nominations when the Academy makes their selections.
The Guild has announced their 2014 nominations today and there aren’t really any major surprises here. All the expected films are present, including 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Animated films that nabbed nominations are The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Epic, Frozen and Monsters University.
