Someone better tell Martha Dunnstock. Deadline reports TV Land has ordered a script for a new anthology series, based on the 1988 film Heathers, which starred Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk, and Kim Walker.

TV Land has ordered a pilot script for Heathers, an anthology dark comedy series based on the cult 1988 film. Set in the present day, Heathers centers on Veronica Sawyer — the character played in the movie by Winona Ryder — who will be dealing with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers. 20th Century Fox has purchased the pitch for a potential three film franchise entitled Shadows and they have set animation director Carlos Saldanha to direct. After working on several animated films for Fox and Blue Sky (most notably three Ice Ages and the bird-filled Rio movies), Carlos Saldanha has been focusing more on live-action, including contributing a segment to portmanteau film Rio, I Love You. He’s blending his knowledge of CG with directing living people for monster movie Shadows.20th Century Fox has nabbed a pitch document from writer Jason Micallef, who outlined a plan for a three-film franchise reportedly set in the world of cryptozoology (Nessie, Bigfoot and their ilk). Not much more is known about the potential film beyond that, but the studio was quick to lock in Saldanha’s services for at least the first entry, which will blend CG effects with live action for a story that the studio no doubt hopes will engage audiences the way Jurassic World has. The success of The Lego Movie stands on two equally important pillars, I think. On the one hand, it was a cool brand already, thanks in part to years of successful movie tie-in sets and some solid video games.
And on the other, it was a very good film too, full of savvy gags and an attitude that punctured any fears of being a cash-in with a mix of irreverence and heart-tugging sincerity.
It can’t have been easy to make that film work so well.
I’m worried, then, for Jason Micallef, who is currently scripting a possible Play-Doh movie. And for Paul Feig, who Deadline say is interested in directing. They’ve got a tricky act to pull off, and they’ll no doubt be compared to Lego while they’re doing it.
I mean, I’m making that comparison already. But it won’t stop here.

Why does Hollywood keep mining the smallest nooks and crannies of my childhood? This week, two major children’s film projects are reportedly in development.
The first is Disney continuing to pile on to their live-action reboot slate with a reimagining of none other than Winnie the Pooh. How they intend to do this without sending one of the most classic children’s’ characters of all time into seriously uncanny valley territory boggles my mind beyond even singing jungle animals, a flying elephant, or CGI candlesticks and dining sets. Disney didn’t even wait a full week after announcing their previous live-action project, a reboot of Mulan.
Deadline reported Thursday evening that Alex Ross-Perry, director of the indie from last year Listen Up Philip, would be writing the story, in which a fully grown Christopher Robin would return to his old friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. I guess...

Remember when movies based on toys like Candyland, Stretch Armstrong, Space Invaders and Lego were announced and everyone laughed? Well, the laughter stopped when Phil Lord and Miller’s game changing “The Lego Movie” arrived last year, showing what could be done when these brand extensions are approached with a little bit of creativity and risk. “The Lego Movie” grossed over $450 million worldwide and spawned its own empire of upcoming, sure to be “inter-connected” sequels and spinoffs, and yet proved the naysayers wrong with wit, irreverence and playful four-quadrant humor. So don't roll your eyes too hard when you read the words below. Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox and Hasbro are teaming up to bring "Play-Doh" to the big screen. Like Lego, the benefit of Play-Doh is that it's a blank canvas to work on. Paul Feig, who is currently getting ready to shoot his "Ghostbusters" movie," is in negotiations to direct,...

Disney has picked up a new spec for a potential film called Ground Control To Major Tom. And yes, the title of the film is a line from the David Dowie song Space Oddity.
There's not much information on what the movie will be about, but it will be a romantic comedy written by Jason Micallef and directed by Seth Gordon, who most recently directed the awesome comedy Horrible Bosses. His next film will be Identity Theft with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman.
The studio paid a mid six figures for this spec, so they must have saw something good in it. We'll find out soon enough.

Referencing a classic song in a movie's title is probably one of Hollywood's most forgivable uninspired clichés. Sometimes monikers like Can't Buy Me Love or Stand By Me not only instantly evoke the tone a movie's aiming for but also offer a terse summation of the film's main theme. But more often than not these kind of titles are awkwardly slapped onto movies to make them better stick in the consciousness of potential moviegoers. So, their greatest crime is being far less memorable than their namesake. Which category Disney's latest acquisition Ground Control to Major Tom will fall into is hard to predict, as we know nothing about the film's plot. What we do know.thanks to Deadline .is that the studio purchased Jason Micallef 's spec script which has Horrible Bosses' helmer Seth Gordon attached to direct, for the mid-six figures range. As you may have guessed from...

Get ready for more '80s-inspired comedy coming to a theater near you! That's right, there is yet another project in the works that will lean on '80s references for laughs - this time courtesy of Jason Segel in Undercover Cop. While there aren't many details yet, we know the film centers on a former cop who infiltrates the underworld of New Jersey criminals (Oh, did I mention it takes place during the '80s?). The surprising detail about this film is that it's apparently based on a true story, which is odd for a cop comedy. Jason Micallef has been hired to write the screenplay based on an idea by Garrett Basch. Noted screenwriter Steve Zaillian (Schindler's List, American Gangster) will produce under his Screen Rites production company. Briefly: It's going to be a big year for Jason Segel. He's finishing The Muppets, has a role in Bad Teacher, which hits this summer, and now it looks like he could be the star of Undercover Cop. Ok, not the greatest title, but the concept could work: the comedy is based on the story of a cop who "infiltrated the New Jersey criminal underworld" in the '80s. Let's hope it's something like Donnie Brasco meets Beverly Hills Cop rather than, say, Donnie Brasco meets the '04 Starsky & Hutch. THR [1] says that Jason Micallef is writing with Steve Zaillian producing. [1] http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/risky-business/jason-segel-play-undercover-cop-96444...

#52. Butter - Jim Field Smith The Weinsteins have a good rapport with the festival, and along with the hope of giving the Tiff preemed Submarine an extra showing in the Spotlight section, they might try to grab a Premieres space for Jim Field Smith's Butter. The film is officially ready (see Smith's pic) and footage was shown at the Afm - so they have the option of waiting until the fall, or gain entry into the theatrical market with a The Kids Are All Right mindset - build buzz early and position the family comedy early summer. Scripted by Jason Micallef (it's a really good screenplay - think Best in Show), set in a small Midwest town, this follows a young orphan who named Destiny, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. It’s nice to hear that there is still place for some satirical comedy drama in Hollywood these days.
Maybe you already had a chance to hear that something like this is cooking for us, maybe not, but anyway we’re here to report you that Butter is coming! It already sounds like something that could soon be the leading ingredient of theatres…
So, it’s kind of weird story. It’s about the contestants of an Iowa butter-carving competition, but as an allegory for recent political maneuvering.
Or, if you want more detailed synopsis, let’s start from Laura Pickler, the ambitious wife of Iowan butter sculpting champion Bob Pickler. When her husband is forced into retirement, Laura decides to compete herself, only to find herself head to head with Destiny – a surprisingly talented young black orphan girl. So, you get it now?

Working Title and Story for New Jack Ryan Adventure: We're starting today's round-up with a bit of a long one. First reported back in October 2009, we learned Star Trek's new Captain Kirk would be taking on the role that once belonged to Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck... that of Jack Ryan from Tom Clancy's series of novels. At that time the script penned by Hossein Amini (The Four Feathers) was being kept quiet. Since then Adam Cozad has come on to take a stab at the story and word has it the working title for the film is Moscow. The report also says it will not be an origin story and also will not be based on a Clancy novel, which makes sense since Amini's script was an original story in the first place, though it appears Amini's story may have been scrapped altogether.

Graham (Snatch) is said to be playing a character named Scram. Filming is set to begin shortly on the film, which is already slated for a May 20, 2011 release. [Production Weekly and E! Online]

I just wrote about Butter the other day -- that's the Black List script by Jason Micallef that is becoming a comedy with satirical overtones starring Rob Corddry and Jennifer Garner. Now Ashley Greene, aka the one reason I'd think about ever wanting to watch any of the Twilight films, is signing on to play "a rebellious high school teenager." I still love the core idea -- an Iowa butter-carving competition is allegory for the 2008 Democratic caucus -- and this cast is really shaping up. [THR] After the break, new work for a Glee cast member and some terribly exciting news about the third Big Momma's House movie. Actually, the opposite -- the only exciting news would be that it isn't happening. Glee's Cory Monteith, as well as Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell, have joined the comedy Monte Carlo that already stars Selena Gomez. Based on the novel Headhunters by...

Who knew butter carving was such a desirable hobby? According to Reuters, yet another prominent name found a place in the cast of Butter. Well, this one is still more of rising star than her co-stars, Jennifer Garner and Kate Hudson, but she.s certainly rising fast; she.s The Twilight Saga.s Ashley Greene. Jim Field Smith is the man in charge of bringing the #3 script on the 2008 Black List to life. The dramedy comes from Jason Micallef and is about an Iowa woman desperate to earn the butter carving title once held by her husband. The problem is, there.s a new girl in town and she just so happens to have a knack for sculpting the spread. Garner is set to portray the butter carving champ wannabe and Yara Shahidi, her young competition. Ty Burrell will play Garber.s husband and the carving master. Hudsons. character has...

"Twilight" vampire Ashley Greene is about to sink her teeth into "Butter."
Greene has signed on to star with Jennifer Garner in a comedy about competitors in a butter-carving contest in a small town, The Hollywood Reporter says. Garner is also producing the movie.
Despite the subject matter, it's not a Christopher Guest movie. Newcomer Jason Micallef wrote it, and Jim Field Smith ("She's Out of My League") is going to direct.
Greene will play a character named Kaitlen Pickler, whom the Hr describes as a "rebellious high school teenager." She's scheduled to begin filming the movie next week, fitting it in before the press onslaught for "Twilight: Eclipse's" June 30 release kicks into high gear.
It's shaping up to be a busy year for Greene. In addition to "Eclipse" and "Butter" -- and of course, the final "Twilight" film(s), "Breaking Dawn" -- she just finished work on a...

I've always thought Ashley Greene was kind of a looker in the Twilight films, but then I saw some photos of her without the makeup and have come to the conclusion that she is a hottie. Many should see what I mean when they see her in the Weinstein comedy Butter.

Clearly a comedy starring Rob Corddry isn’t bulletproof, but someone out there recognized the depths of his hilarity in Hot Tub Time Machine and hired the former The Daily Show with Jon Stewart correspondent to join the cast of the dramedy Butter. The film already boasts big names including Jennifer Garner and Kate Hudson, but Corddry’s comedic prowess is a welcomed addition. Just as notable as the cast is the script. Jason Micallef’s piece found itself in the #3 position on the 2008 Black List. It involves an Iowa woman (Garner) hoping to take the butter carving title that once belonged to her husband. When a young orphan girl (Yara Shahidi) [...]...
