Back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, Anchor Bay Entertainment was a major player in the horror world, giving DVD releases to films like the Evil Dead trilogy, George A. Romero’s Dead trilogy, the Sleepaway Camp franchise, The Hills Have Eyes, The Car, Maniac, Prom Night, some of the Hellraisers, Halloweens, and much more. Then things changed, and eventually Anchor Bay got folded into Lionsgate Home Entertainment… but now Deadline reports that the Anchor Bay Entertainment label is being revived, and the revival is starting off with the releases of puppet horror film Abruptio and Dinner with Leatherface, a documentary that looks at the life, career, and legacy of original Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen!
Umbrelic Entertainment co-founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz are behind the return of Anchor Bay Entertainment, and they’re planning to use the label to bring the world “genre films, undiscovered treasures, cult classics,...

A familiar label for horror fans is getting a resurrection. Umbrelic Entertainment co-founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz are bringing back a new iteration of Anchor Bay Entertainment with the goal to curate a new library of films for distribution, projects that range from new release genre films, undiscovered treasures, cult classics, and remastered catalog releases.
The new launch comes with a pair of acquisition titles: puppet horror film Abruptio and documentary Dinner with Leatherface.
“We had an opportunity to take the name of a beloved genre film brand, one we feel a personal connection to, for our new company,” says Zambeck in a press release statement. “This is a new venture, unaffiliated with any previous incarnations. We aim to honor the history and spirit of the past as we look for interesting films that break the mold, and will be discovered by new generations for years to come.”

In Lionsgate’s acquisition of Starz in December 2016, the studio absorbed the North American branches of Anchor Bay Entertainment. The Anchor Bay Entertainment trademark was up for acquisition so Zambeck and Katz took the opportunity to acquire it. The new Anchor Bay Entertainment doesn’t include the previous label’s library.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the horror-comedy sitcom “Holliston,” which aired for two seasons on the now-defunct FEARnet in 2012 and 2013.
Adam Green and Joe Lynch are two filmmakers and genuine horror fans who have given their fellow horror fans so much over the years, including some great movies like Mayhem, the Hatchet franchise, and Frozen, as well as the upcoming Suitable Flesh. Among their many contributions to the genre was their horror sitcom, “Holliston.”
The best way to describe the series for the uninitiated would be if “Spaced” had a head on collision with “Friends” and was re-attached into a weird, funny monster. Originally premiering as the first original series on the now defunct FEARnet in 2012, “Holliston” is set in the small town of Holliston, Massachusetts, and stars Adam Green as “Adam” and Joe Lynch as “Joe.” Both stars play fictional versions of themselves that are best friends and roommates.

Director Jack Hill’s 1967 film Spider Baby or, the Maddest Story Ever Told (watch it Here) – which boasts a cast that includes Lon Chaney Jr. and Sid Haig – ranks up there as one of my all-time favorites. Rob Zombie clearly took some inspiration from Spider Baby when he was making House of 1000 Corpses, and back in 2007 we heard that a remake was in the works, coming from the Night of the Living Dead 3D team of director Jeff Broadstreet and writer Robert Valding. The one didn’t end up making it into production… but a couple weeks ago, it was confirmed that filming had just wrapped on a version of the remake that’s coming our way from Scs Entertainment and director Dustin Ferguson (Cocaine Cougar). Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have gotten their hands on a trailer for the Spider Baby remake, and you can check it...

Jack Hill’s 1967 cult classic horror movie Spider Baby is getting a remake from filmmaker Dustin Ferguson (Cocaine Cougar, Mega Ape), and we’ve got the new trailer today.
Bloody Disgusting has been told that the upcoming Spider Baby remake is “set to captivate audiences with a thrilling blend of nostalgia and modern twists.”
The team explains, “The new film promises to reimagine the beloved cult film – which starred Sid Haig and Lon Chaney Jr. – for a new generation of horror enthusiasts.”
The film is now in post-production, with a premiere planned for this October in L.A.
The original film’s director, Jack Hill, served as the Executive Producer for this brand new project, which is said to “ensure a respectful homage to the 1967 cult classic.”

Happy #RobertEnglundDay!
About one third of the 150+ acting credits accumulated over the course of Robert Englund’s 50-year career fall under the horror genre. Screambox is streaming five of them, along with the all-new documentary, Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story.
Here are six Robert Englund movies you can watch on Screambox now…
Galaxy of Terror
Before moving to Elm Street, Englund went to space for 1981’s Galaxy of Terror, the first of two back-to-back Alien knock-offs produced by Roger Corman. The film follows a ragtag spaceship crew on a rescue mission to a barren planet, where they encounter a deadly creature. In a slight twist on Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror classic, Galaxy of Terror uses its victims’ own fears against them — which, incidentally, is similar to Freddy’s modus operandi.

Stephen King has been having a resurgence in the last decade regarding his stories being adapted for the big screen. As The Boogeyman hits big screens, it is the perfect time to go back and look at what kind of monsters he has brought to cinema by way of his novels. One of King’s specialties is finding small, everyday things that can turn on us and invoke a deep seeded fear that chills us to the bone. Out of all of the films that have been made of his works, who are Stephen King’s scariest movie villains?
John Rainbird – Firestarter (1984)
I know, I know. This portrayal of John Rainbird is problematic mainly because they put George C. Scott in the role. Some might even think his take on the character is a little hokey, but there is no questioning that his motivation is terrifying. He is...

Bone Tomahawk (2015)
Director S. Craig Zahler made his feature debut with this excellent blend of the horror and Western genres, which pits a group of men – played by Kurt Russell, Richard Jenkins, Matthew Fox, and Patrick Wilson – against a group of cave-dwelling cannibals who have taken the wife of Wilson’s character captive. With a running time of 132 minutes, Bone Tomahawk takes its time showing the men’s journey to the tribe’s cave… but when the violence breaks out, it’s worth the wait. If you can stomach the gore.

Love him or hate him, Rob Zombie has become one of the prominent and unique voices in the modern horror landscape. His style is immediately recognizable, his choices in aesthetics, casting, and music practically codified. I say this not to criticize Zombie; he’s one of my favorite current filmmakers, and I like or love nearly every single one of his movies.
With two of his films celebrating an anniversary this year – Lords of Salem turns 10, House of 1000 Corpses turns 20 – it seemed like the right time to revisit his filmmaking career so far.
Today we’re ranking Rob Zombie’s entire live action filmography to date…

If I’m being totally honest, this is the one movie on the list I’m not entirely crazy about because, after the relative box office disappointment of Zombie’s experimentation with The Lords of Salem, it feels like he retreated artistically back...

Before becoming one of the most divisive filmmakers in horror with the likes of Halloween and The Munsters, Rob Zombie was just a musician trying his hand at the film industry. House of 1000 Corpses came together fairly quickly following a failed attempt to reboot The Crow, but the rock star’s Hollywood career almost never was due to post-production controversy that left his directorial debut on the shelf for three years.
Production on Corpses was completed in 2000 before Universal Studios refused to release it due to its objectionable content. MGM later came on board to distribute it in 2002 until a tongue-in-cheek remark by Zombie caused them to cancel the deal. Finally, Lions Gate signed on and released it in April of 2003, launching Zombie’s film career as well as a franchise that would be followed by 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects and 2019’s 3 from Hell.

Rob Zombie is an incredibly successful recording artist, known for songs like "Dragula" and "Living Dead Girl," as well as his song "More Human Than Human" with the band White Zombie, with nearly 6 million albums sold. That is one heck of a career spanning over three decades, and that's not including the man's movie career, which has been going steady for 20 years now, dating back to 2003's gory cult classic "House of 1000 Corpses." But, unlike his music career, Zombie's movie career got off to an incredibly rocky start — and at first, it seemed like his debut feature would never see the light of day.

Today, April 11th, marks the 20th anniversary of the theatrical release of writer/director Rob Zombie’s feature debut, House of 1000 Corpses. That film turned out to be the first installment in the “Firefly” franchise, as members of the homicidal Firefly family returned for two sequels: The Devil’s Rejects and 3 from Hell. To celebrate the anniversary, Entertainment Weekly caught up with Zombie for an interview about the making of House of 1000 Corpses and the struggle to get it released. As the interview nears its end, Zombie is asked if there are any plans to make a new entry in the Firefly franchise. He reveals that not only does he not intend to make another Firefly movie, but we also shouldn’t expect to see a sequel to his version of The Munsters that was released last year.

Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses celebrates its 20th anniversary this week with a brand new Blu-ray release, marking Zombie’s 20th anniversary as a filmmaker. A well-established musician by the time his debut feature was released, Zombie followed House of 1000 Corpses with films including sequels The Devil’s Rejects and 3 from Hell, remakes Halloween, Halloween II, and The Munsters, plus originals including The Lords of Salem and 31.
What’s next from Rob Zombie, you ask? Will we ever see the return of the Firefly Family in a third sequel to House of 1000 Corpses? How about a sequel to last year’s The Munsters?
Entertainment Weekly asked Zombie both of these questions in a new chat that was just published on their website this week, and he suggests neither project is in the cards.

Back in February, we learned that Lionsgate is giving writer/director Rob Zombie‘s feature debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) a new Blu-ray release to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary on April 11th. There will be a standard edition of the House of 1000 Corpses 20th anniversary Blu-ray and a steelbook edition that will be exclusive to Best Buy. Both editions will include a disc that’s full of new bonus features, but a New Director’s Commentary will only be accessible on digital platforms. Zombie took to Instagram to reveal that he was recording that new commentary yesterday.

Rob Zombie's first feature film, 2003's "House of 1000 Corpses," is a filthy little nightmare of a movie. Shot for only $7 million, Zombie's film took a lot of tonal and visual cues from Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," but filtered through the director's ultraviolent heavy metal sensibility. The film was bleak, violent, grimy, and uncomfortable. It also didn't make a lot of sense. What, for instance, was the true nature of the subterranean cyborg named Dr. Satan? It wouldn't be until the 2005 sequel, "The Devil's Rejects," that the true nihilism of the film's villains would be explored. Zombie didn't seem to care much about the victims of the wicked Firefly family -- mostly traveling students and tourists who stumble into the Firefly's unsavory roadside attractions -- choosing instead to focus on a family who have found solidarity in their mutual evil and innate need to kill and destroy.

"I just need to stay alive long enough to figure this out..." A promo trailer has debuted for a very strange indie film titled Abruptio, made by a filmmaker named Evan Marlowe. After years in production, Abruptio finally had its world premiered at the Santa Monica Film Festival in January. It is now screening virtually at Cinejoy this month, before stopping by a few other genre festivals this year. No release date is set. "Comedy, mystery, blood, A-List voices, action, puppets combine in the first-of-its-kind surrealistic horror-thriller." Les Hackel is a guy down on his luck who wakes to find an explosive device has been implanted in his neck. Abruptio uses the voices of James Marsters as Les, Hana Mae Lee, Jordan Peele (!!), Christopher McDonald, Robert Englund (aka the original Freddy), Darren Darnborough, Rich Fulcher, and the iconic Sid Haig in one of his final roles. Marlowe wants people to...
