The very first thing one sees in each episode of the new reboot of “Queer as Folk” — before the action even starts — is the handwritten name of the streamer on which it appears, with an underline jauntily appearing beneath the last four letters of “Peacock.” It’s an elbow to the ribs, or to regions further south, that comes on strong from the earliest moments of the series; do you get it? Do you?
This show, about the lives of queer and trans people in New Orleans, centers that one syllable, and a few similar terms: Like the early-2000s Showtime series that preceded it (itself based on a British drama by Russell T. Davies), “Queer as Folk” 2022 is relentless in its pursuit of pleasure. But that enjoyment, here, often exists for the characters more than for the viewer. “Queer as Folk” has an abrasive, punky insouciance that’s charming,...

Look, over there – isn’t that Charlie Brown’s pal Linus, belly crawling through the pumpkin patch? No, not Linus, but somebody who’s awfully familiar. Let’s get closer and… Rats! Do you believe that?
It’s me, looking the way I look in photographs Mom used to keep in a chest of drawers – that is, like a skinny eight-year-old. And now I’m getting up, rising from the pumpkin patch like some pagan deity.
The question is, where will I be when I’m finally on my feet? Oh, the suspense is killing us! Okay, okay, maybe not killing us, but… I don’t know. Making us feel queasy?
Table that for now and have a look around. I’ve been here before, but when?
And suddenly I’m gobsmacked! Because I’m in the small store Dad and I stopped at after Sunday Mass that sold bread...

Chrissy Teigen has a complicated relationship with spray tans. One she’s never been afraid of discussing in great detail, predominately via her preferred social media mediums of Twitter and Snapchat. While in the past she’s admitted that she’s undoubtedly a “spray-tan addict,” she’s since taken a bit of a break, mostly due to the simple time constraints of being a new mom. But now it seems she’s back on the bronzed bandwagon, sharing a partially nude photo of herself on Snapchat sporting a freshly applied golden glow.

Poor Josie! It's no wonder she's so set on being a star. Her parents' expectations are exhausting.
We finally got a Josie-centric story on Riverdale Season 1 Episode 6. It took weeks for this to happen. I couldn't be happier.
Has anyone else officially joined #TeamJosie? I've been here a while. Welcome to the group. (On Thursdays we wear cat ears.)
In her few appearances so far, Josie has always come across as the ambitious yet snobby band leader. She would show up to perform a song or demand attention to rule the group. I never understood why this was her only personality trait shown.
That is...until we finally met and learned more about her parents.
Her father is one of the worst. I. Can't. Even...
Granted, her mother isn't picture perfect either, but at least she's there and cares for her daughter. Mr. McCoy is so critical of his daughter,...

What clues were there in the Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 trailer? We take a look...
Note: This piece contains very mild spoilers for Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 based on things confirmed by writer/director James Gunn on Facebook/Twitter
After what seemed like forever, Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn finally offered us our first glimpse of footage from the much-awaited follow-up: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Set just a few months after the first film, it brings back the gang for what promises to be another fun, pop-tinged dance across the stars.
But what did we see? And for that matter… what Didn’T we see?
This trailer shows a lot of Chris Pratt back in action as Star Lord, and as the breakout star of the first movie (well, behind a CGI raccoon and tree…) it’s hardly a surprise that...

What did you think of Cinderella's return to Once Upon a Time? Were you pleased by the twist that her story took?
Teresa: I was so pleased Cinderella returned. To me, characters like her are the "untold stories" we need to see. The twist with her step-sister, lol, was an awful lot like Anastasia and Will in Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, and it was well done....in both series.

Terry Gilliam is never going to give up trying to make his passion project, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. This is a project that he’s so passionate about that he’s willing to take on whatever torture that hell has to throw at him to get it made. Over the years, several actors have been involved with the project including Johnny Depp, Jean Rochefort, Ewan McGregor, Robert Duvall, Jack O’Connell, and John Hurt.
The project is set to move forward again, and this time there are two new actors attached to star in it. Those actors aree Adam Driver (The Force Awakens) and Michael Palin, who is one of Gilliam's old Monty Python collaborators. Both these actors will be great in the two lead roles of the film. Hopefully, the production actually goes through this time!

Like Frodo naïvely offering the One Ring to Galadriel, unaware of the dangers of unleashing the full extent of her powers upon the world, Marvel has a role for Cate Blanchett its upcoming Thor sequel. Variety reports that the studio is in early talks for the Oscar-winner, recent SAG and Golden Globe-nominated Carol star to play a one of the new female leads in the film, titled Thor: Ragnarok. The details of the character aren't confirmed, though rumors surrounding Ragnarok have indicated that it could introduce a new female superhero, Valkyrie, and possibly a new villain, Enchantress. Either character would be a perfect fit for Blanchett, as she has statuesque Nordic features, experience playing powerful mythological beings, and—let's face it—has a deep connection to powers beyond human comprehension. Directed by Flight of the Conchord's Taika Waititi with a script from Stephany Folsom, Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters November 3, 2017. Maybe this time,...

Doused in luscious color and comedy, Sean Baker’s Tangerine dares to do a handful of things, but its greatest feat is how unradical its radicalism is. At the heart of the screwball antics of Mya Taylor and Kiki Rodriguez is simplicity: friendship, broken hearts, and aspirations towards comfort, accepted identity, and social mobility.
That it’s filmed on iPhones isn’t some mere gimmick, but crucial to its examination of self-identity in a world where exploration of such is a luxury for the privileged. We talked to Sean Baker about working with his two stars, the American Dream, and self-actualization through selfies.
The Film Stage: One of the things I noticed about Tangerine was that the stars, Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor, really seem to dictate where the camera goes. The camera is fascinated by and in adoration of these characters.

Fast & Furious 8 is eyeing the director of Straight Outta Compton, F. Gary Gray. Read on for more details.
As soon as Furious 7 ended, Vin Diesel announced that there would be a Fast & Furious 8. However, with James Wan not returning, the super-charged ship was without a captain. Although, that may be soon changing as it appears Universal Pictures may have selected its next director.
After the recent success of Straight Outta Compton, Director F. Gary Gray has been a hot commodity in the movie world. Until now, he was rumored to be one of the final four director's for Marvel's Black Panther movie. However, if the picture above and Vin Diesel's words are true, he may be scrapping the vibranium claws for a super-charged v6 turbo.
If anyone were to take the helm of this franchise, I'd want it to be F. Gary Gray, especially after Straight Outta Compton.

A review of tonight's "Justified" coming up just as soon as I come across a chupacabra... "Maybe this time, things end different." -Boyd Last week, I wrote that I looked forward to "seeing the very stupid way" in which Choo-Choo would died, thinking about the accidental demises of White Boy Bob in "Out of Sight," or Danny Crowe when he tried to test his 21-foot rule theory on Raylan last season. "Alive Day" appears to kill off our latest impulsive man of violence, who fails to get crushed by his namesake, but instead expires from wounds acquired in a shootout with Raylan, Tim, Ty Walker and some of Avery Markham's other mercs. And it's not just the method of Choo-Choo's death that's a surprise, but the tone of it. Introduced as perhaps the dumbest and strongest of the series' many dumb strong guys, he instead turns out to be someone...

Exclusive: It’s impossible to ignore Emma Stone’s eyes. At least until she begins speaking, but we’ll get to that. First, not to be reductive, but jeepers, creepers. Even, or especially, on a crummy December day, in office lighting at the taste-free conference room where we’ve met, them there eyes make me wonder: Are these the uncredited models for Tim Burton’s Big Eyes? No, those Keane urchins are all pupil, while Stone is all iris, heather blue leaning toward green.
Obviously, the camera loves them: Check out any scene in Birdman, where she plays Sam, the seen-it-all-including-rehab daughter of Michael Keaton, a washed-up movie star desperate to make a comeback in a serious Broadway play. Those eyes play altogether different roles in Sam’s scenes with Keaton, on the one hand, and Edward Norton’s strutting cock-o’-the-walk actor, on the other: In the former, they...

Some 17 Sally Bowleses painted their nails green and sang “Maybe This Time” for the Sam Mendes revisal of Cabaret that ran on Broadway from March 1998 (Natasha Richardson) through January 2004 (Susan Egan). No doubt the Roundabout, which mounted that revisal, as well as the current revival of the revisal, hopes to keep the Kit Kat Klub door revolving. They started this spring with Michelle Williams, who was thrillingly emotional in the part, and have now moved on to Emma Stone, who reportedly had been their first choice. Even aside from Stone’s commercial appeal, you can see why: With her extraordinary face and Mona Lisa smile, her huge celadon eyes and coppery bob, she arrives prepackaged with the kind of remote fascination a Sally Bowles needs. And indeed, she looks terrific as the none-too-bright young thing in William Ivey Long’s pastel frocks and diaphanous lingerie. What fun! you think as...

Emma Stone is getting rave reviews as Sally Bowles in the hit revival of "Cabaret." The “Amazing-Spider Man” actress took over the role from Michelle Williams despite having no stage experience, but is living up to everyone’s expectations. Emma, who understandably had some first-night jitters, reportedly killed her performance according to audience members and her co-stars. The star received a standing ovation and a boutique of flowers, leaving her teary eyed during the musicals curtain call. "When it comes to her big numbers she delivers. 'Maybe This Time' locates the vulnerability inside the camp, and Stone gives a bravura performance of the title song, at once defiant, pathetic and heroic," The Guardian wrote of Emma’s performance. “Despite her inexperience on stage, Stone has done as much as anyone in the cast to make the audience experience that transition, in a performance that was anything but cabaret.

So the new Terminator movie has an official title. And it’s… interesting. Hey, listen: Book, cover, don’t judge, I get it. Maybe this time next year we’ll all be rocking Genisys T-shirts. Maybe we’ll just start spelling “genesis” as “genisys,” sort of like how you can spell it “judgment” or “judgement.” Inglourious Basterds is great, and that has two misspellings!
Still, let’s pretend for argument’s sake that Terminator: Genisys looks like the title of the fanfic spin-off you wrote back in second grade where Terminator meets Scarface and they both fight Darth Vader to save Princess Toadstool.

Chicago – One of the top musical theater voices working in Chicago is actress/singer Jillian Kate Weingart. After triumphs in several local productions, she is currently featured in the iconic role of Sally Bowles in a staging of “Cabaret,” presented by BrightSide Theatre of Naperville, Ill., through June 29th, 2014.
Jillian Kate Weingart is moving up the musical theater ladder here in Chicago, having had memorable appearances in the locally produced musicals ”A New Brain” and ”Adult Entertainment.” Her characteristic stage energy is electric and sensational, with a multi-range vocal style that can handle the best of Broadway and standard song material.

But it sounds like maybe things didn't go so well for DeVine's character Bumper Allen as Deadline reports he will return in Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel already slated for release on May 15th, 2015. DeVine joins Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Show as returning cast members from the surprise musically infused comedy hit. But we're still wondering just what kind of story we're going to get from the sequel without treading water. Aspiring directors, get your cameras rolling! HBO announced today that it is re-teaming with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on a new season of "Project Greenlight."
It's been nearly a decade since "Project Greenlight" was last on television. Ah, Bates Motel - you pulpy, creepy, hilariously over-the-top gem of impossibly entertaining pop culture revisionism, you. It’s only your sophomore season and already you’ve taken one of our most ghoulish mythologies and piled on sex trafficking rings, drug cartels, murdered sexy schoolmarms, and enough GIFable Vera Farmiga histrionics to last a lifetime.
But this week the show gave us something entirely new: it introduced a gay teen character (or maybe even two) and addressed one of the Bates Motel’s many elephants: Norman’s sexuality.
Ever since the release of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, casual viewers have been confused about what makes Norman Bates tick. Hey, the guy dresses up as a woman and kills people – he’s some kinda killer homo, right?
Wrong.
Norman Bates is straight. In fact, internalized shame about his intense sexual attraction to women is a huuuuge part of his psychosis – something...

Bates Motel Season 2, Episode 2 “Shadow of a Doubt”
Written by Kerry Ehrin
Directed by Tucker Gates
Airs Monday nights at 9pm Et on A&E
I suppose if a show is going to dive swim in the oceans of ridiculousness, there’s no point in wading in the shallow end; “Shadow of a Doubt” takes the bat shit world of Bates Motel to a new level, adding in ludicrous marijuana mulers (who shoot teenage dimebag sellers, apparently), a completely misguided drug war, and a teenage girl who leaves a note for the boy she spent most of the first season ignoring (after she slept with him, of course). And this is all before we get to the single oddest thing in Bates Motel‘s short existence: Norma Bates emotionally singing “Maybe This Time.”
Unfortunately, it’s all just a little too silly for its own good – and more importantly, none...

You'd have to be Mel Brooks to write a hilarious movie that prominently features Nazis, but George Clooney and his writing partner, Grant Heslov, have penned a poignant but often funny action-thriller in The Monuments Men. The real laughs, however, came at the Los Angeles press junket for the film on Thursday, which featured Clooney's costars - Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Bob Balaban. Despite the somewhat heavy subject matter of the movie - which is about a group of WWII soldiers given the task of rescuing priceless artworks from the Nazis - the press conference...

George Clooney is a gifted actor and director. But he's also a gifted prankster, as Matt Damon learned yet again while filming The Monuments Men last year. "He took in my wardrobe by an eighth of an inch, every other day," Damon, 43, said Thursday at a press junket for the film at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. "[He] had the wardrobe department do that because he knew that I was trying to lose weight." Instead, thanks to the wardrobe treachery, Damon thought he was gaining weight - which baffled him, given the hours he was logging at the gym.

Taylor Lautner walked hand-in-hand with his new girlfriend, Canadian actress Marie Avgeropoulos, as the two headed into Jay-z’s concert in Los Angeles on Monday night.
Taylor Lautner Dating Marie Avgeropoulos
Lautner, 21, and Avgeropoulos, 27, met and began dating in July on the set of Tracers, a thriller that’s due in theaters sometime in 2014. In the film, Lautner plays a bike courier who gets mixed up in some shady business with the Mafia. He evades them with her parkour skills and eventually meets Avgeropoulos's character, who runs a street gang that can help him get out of his mess.
Taylor Lautner on the set of 'Tracers'
Like in Twilight, Lautner’s Tracers’ character is in a love triangle. This time, his love interest played by Avgeropoulos is already in a complicated relationship with one of the street gang members. Maybe this time his character will get the girl.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones comes to theaters January 3rd, but before that, the studio wants to get you involved:
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones - Will You Be First?
That's all you get. What do you think the Paranormal people are up to? Judging by past Paranormal outings, the studio is planning on bringing the flick to theaters a week or so early, to select cities based on fan response. But then there is the tagline, "Join the hunt December 6th." Maybe this time around, instead of just signing up on a website, there is some kind of digital scavenger hunt. I guess we will have to wait until December 6th to find out. ...

Fox is cutting the episode order for their new sitcom Surviving Jack, from 13 to eight episodes. The reduced order is supposedly due to scheduling needs rather than a lack of faith in the series.
The network has decided to cut the American Idol results down to just a 30 minutes and will fill that leftover half hour with Surviving Jack. As a result, they'll just need eight weeks of episodes. The network hasn't announced a specific premiere date yet.
Fox has tried this strategy in the past with shows like Breaking In and The Loop. The sitcoms typically have performed well -- until they no longer have Idol for a lead-in. Maybe this time will be different.
Surviving Jack is a coming of age comedy that's executive produced by Bill Lawrence and based on Justin Halpern’s autobiographical book, I Suck at...

Back in August, TNT announced a bunch of renewals, but there was one show mysteriously missing: Franklin & Bash. We were so very nervous that our favorite pop-culture punch line would be lost forever; however, it appears TNT was just playing a joke on us. Bash and Franklin, despite a ratings dip, will be back to lawyering and being silly next summer, as the network announced today the show will have a ten-episode fourth season. Maybe this time Bash will get a dog and name it Franklin, much to the dismay of the human Franklin. You know, just classic Bash high jinks.

Sold-out performance in King Richard II to be relayed live around the world and streamed into 1,000 British schools
It's too late to book tickets to see David Tennant tackle Shakespeare's flawed and doomed King Richard II: every bookable seat for both Stratford-upon-Avon and London has already been sold, even though it doesn't open until next autumn.
But the Royal Shakespeare Company is to announce on Tuesday that the production will be relayed live to cinemas around the world – and also streamed, free, into 1,000 British schools.
Tennant, who will be returning to the RSC for a fourth season, the first since his sold-out performance as Hamlet, said he found the prospect of tackling the play "daunting … but very exciting".
The RSC is coming late to live broadcasts, which have already proved major successes for opera, ballet and theatre companies internationally, and the British Museum is joining in next month, with...

Yasmina Siadatan, winner of series five (the one with 'Pantsman'), is still a huge fan of the show and has some pretty strong opinions on this year's candidates.

"When people did this to me, I used to think, 'Who are these people?' And now I'm sat here doing exactly the same." Yes you are Yasmina, and you don't mince your words...

Pride Prejudice and Zombies is coming back from the dead thanks to one Lily Collins, who is currently in talks to star in the adaptation of Seth Grahame Smith’s parody novel. Burr Steers (Charlie St. Cloud) is on board to direct.
The book follows “the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England who are faced with a new challenge — an army of undead zombies.” If cast, Collins would play the role of Elizabeth Bennet.
Here’s a full synopsis:
So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the...

It looks like Anne Hathaway will be putting her drama-club-iness to good use this fall: According to the Daily Mail, Hathaway is set to star as Sally Bowles in a new revival of Cabaret — with Alan Cumming reportedly reprising his Tony-winning role as the Emcee! Hathaway performed a bunch of Cabaret numbers last fall at a benefit for the Public Theater, so she knows her willkommens from her bienvenues. This new production hasn't been officially announced yet, but Cumming did recently mention that he'd be returning to Broadway and that the show was "something [he] did before and we’re doing it again." Maybe this time you'll win, Anne Hathaway!

New York — Tony Bennett doesn't think Amy Winehouse's life was tragic. He believes the singer who died at age 27 lived a complete life because she was able to achieve her goal: becoming a respected musician.
"Her dream was to become famous and a beautiful singer and she accomplished that," he said Thursday night at the first annual Amy Winehouse Foundation Inspiration Awards and Gala, where he received the lifetime achievement award.
"Even though she had a short life, she had a great life because she ended up praying for the success that she wanted and it happened. This is what this night's about."
Bennett, 86, was honored at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where attendees included Winehouse's father, mother and brother, her ex-boyfriend Reg Traviss, Harry Belafonte, Jennifer Hudson, Sean Lennon and producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, who was also honored.

Mama director Andy Muschietti has found his next film project. He'll be developing a big screen adaptation of an upcoming book written by Josh Malerman called Bird Box. Universal Pictures optioned the manuscript for the book. There seems to be a lot of book optioning going on in Hollywood these days way before the books are even released. This book isn't even set to be released until 2014, and I imagine the movie will follow shortly after.
According to the report the story centers on "a blindfolded threesome comprised of a woman and two children who make their way down a river in a seemingly postapocalyptic setting." It's also described as being in the vein of films like Children of Men and The Others. That's all we know at this point.
This seems like it could be a good project for Muschietti to take on. I loved the first half of Mama,...

When last we left our plucky band of Broadway babies, Karen was triumphant as Marilyn Monroe in the Boston tryout of Bombshell while Ivy backstage contemplated a handful of pills. We pick up three weeks later on the tryout's closing night, with Karen-as-Marilyn singing the original “Cut, Print, Moving On”. The number starts in black-and-white which makes Karen's lips look extremely creepy.
It's not doing those under eye lines any favors either
The number becomes a montage of the various characters returning to New York. Having dumped Dev for sleeping with Ivy, Karen's moved in with a friend called Ana, a new character who shares a fondness for eccentric spelling with her portrayer, Krysta Rodriguez. Dev's left Karen a letter that reads in part that he misses her terribly. Karen crumples it.

New York -- Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome – to middle age.
The landmark film "Cabaret" – starring Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey and Michael York – has turned 41, but that's not going to stop a party: All three actors will be attending an anniversary celebration screening planned Thursday at the Ziegfeld Theatre, where the movie premiered in 1972.
"I can't wait to see them all again," says Minnelli, 66, who won an Academy Award playing Sally Bowles, the fishnet-and-bowler hat wearing chanteuse. "Everybody who worked on it was just wonderful."
The Bob Fosse-directed film, adapted and reworked from the Broadway musical, has also been painstakingly remastered – a facelift of sorts – by Warner Home Video and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Feb. 5.
"Cabaret," which won eight Academy Awards – in a year that also featured competition from a little film called "The Godfather" – hasn't seemed to gather mold over time, remaining a crucial cultural touchstone.
