There’s no bigger David Letterman fan in the world than Jimmy Kimmel. And on Monday night, Kimmel lived up to his hero’s late night legacy.
Kimmel’s heartfelt 13-minute monologue about the birth of his son Billy, who underwent successful open-heart surgery at just 3 days old, was positively Letterman-esque.

At one point during his Monday open, Kimmel pulled out a sheet of paper and gave truly heartfelt thanks for the doctors and nurses who saved Billy’s life. It was reminiscent of the time that Letterman, recovering from heart surgery, brought out the doctors who saved his life.
Fighting back tears, Kimmel managed to share deeply personal details about his son’s condition, while also eliciting a bit of self-deprecating humor and shining the spotlight on Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, hopefully bringing in...

Gotham returns with an all new episode focused on The Court of Owls. Will the episode continue its decent story line from last week, or will it be character overload? Read on to find out the good and the bad from "These Delicate and Dark Obsessions".

Good: The Return of Penguin -- Even though he has been a part of the entire season, it is good to see Penguin back to his vengeful ways. When Cobblepot was mayor, and "in love" with Nygma, the character seemed to lack excitement. Now that he has been wronged by the Riddler, he looks to be changing back into the character we all enjoyed. His psychotic rage near the end of the episode helped restore my faith in the character, and the direction the writers look to be taking him. Watch for he and Nygma to go head-to-head, much like...

Ben McKenzie makes his directorial debut with Gotham Season 3 Episode 16 and we can't wait to see what's in store for our favorite heroes and villains.
On Gotham Season 3 Episode 15, Jim was approached by his Uncle Frank to join the Court of Owls, but was unclear if was going to do so? Will he finally make a decision this hour?
Bruce was kidnapped by the Court of Owls and is now with a Shaman who is going to set him on the path to becoming Batman, but is Bruce willing to take up the task?
There are no photos of The Riddler or Penguin, but we have to wonder when those two will meet again. And who exactly is Barbara talking to on the phone?
Check out the photos for "These Delicate and Dark Obsessions" and speculate away!

Gotham is back! The midseason premiere is a strong start for the second half of season three, showing the further evolution of Ed into the Riddler. In terms of plot, it was less successful than some of the other Riddler-centric episodes we've gotten in the past, but nothing matched its insight into Ed's motivations as we saw him struggle to come to terms with his identity after killing — or, as we now know, attempting to kill — Oswald.

What is hands down one of the most memorable lines from Home Alone, the phrase “look what you did you little jerk” is immortalized in the pantheon of great movie lines. To this day people still use this line in context in real life. It was uttered by none other than Uncle Frank who was played by Gerry Bamman who is our “That guy” actor of the day. P.S. did you ever read the theory about how Uncle Frank was behind everything in Home Alone? It’s a solid article. Anyway, let’s move on to Gerry Bamman. Gerry’s career goes back

Jimmy Kimmel shed plenty of tears, and even managed to get in a few laughs, while paying tribute to good friend Don Rickles, the legendary insult comic who died on Thursday at the age of 90.

Stories about prodigies are too often mired in tragic mental health issues or careers with boundless accolades and successes. Some can be done very well and others are redundant to the point of avoidance. The sub-genre of child prodigies is oftentimes even worse because it generally targets young audiences and therefore never possesses the nuance to be anything more than an upward trajectory with few pitfalls to traverse along the way. Either the child is stewarded by a selfless adult to greatness or the child is positioned to remind the adult what is great about his/her life. An authentic depiction of humanity’s familial messiness and misguided self-interest rarely appears. So Marc Webb‘s Gifted proves a welcome variation on the model despite also falling prey to its conventions.

There have been many, many movies about World War II, and of course most of them are like Saving Private Ryan, or last year’s Hacksaw Ridge as they focus on the brave heroes who went off to war and found a way not only to survive, but also come home as heroes.
Their Finest, based on Lissa Evans’ 2009 book Their Finest Hour and a Half, instead focuses on the brave women back home who did their part to try to keep spirits up and continue to support the British troops overseas.
In the movie, Gemma Arterton plays Catrin Cole, an ad writer hired to write the female dialogue (or “slop”) for the British Ministry of Information’s propaganda films they release to inspire the people back in England. Working with screenwriter Tom Buckley (Sam Claflin), Catrin finds the story of two twin sisters who borrow their father’s boat...

This is the last episode before Gotham’s Winter Finale! What does Jerome have in store this episode!?
As Jerome’s followers are taking over Gotham, he breaks in to Wayne Manor in order to kidnap Bruce. I still enjoy Cameron Monaghan’s portrayal of The Joker. He does draw some of his words like Heath Ledger’s take, but it has its own feel to it which is refreshing, yet close to many adaptions of the comics. I hope they do not run through this storyline as it has been one of the best of the series. Jerome captures Bruce as Gordon comes to help Alfred. Jerome stabbing one of his men and using the blood to paint Bruce’s face was morbid, unexpected, and extremely well done. Between this, having his face cut off, and stapled back on, Gotham has become edgy which has made it more interesting.

Can you breathe yet?!
There were plenty of thrills and chills on Gotham Season 3 Episode 14 as both Bruce and Penguin faced their futures. But one of them wasn't as lucky as the other.
Go, Bruce, Go!
Jerome might have thought he was the star of the show, but Bruce took that mantle right out of his hands. From the moment Jerome showed up at Wayne Manor until the very end at the funhouse, Bruce was in control. Not only of himself, but of the entire situation.
Jerome had no idea what was happening, and he certainly wasn't expecting any of it. It was a proud moment watching Bruce come face to face with his future self.
Things started to click a long time ago with Bruce, but it really hit home when Jerome told him there were no heroes in Gotham.
Batman has arrived! Finally.

The Gotham winter finale is this comic book show at its very best...
This Gotham review contains spoilers.
3.14 The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies
Death. Violence. Murder. These actions don't mean the same thing on television as they do in real life. They are melodramatic catalysts for the emotions they produce. They aren't the point; the reactions they cause are. They're ciphers, simple stand-ins for the much more complicated language of living.
This is even more true in the world of Gotham, where death, violence, and murder are used as lightly and liberally as other shows use more casual forms of betrayal: gossip, lies, and infidelity. It can make for a confusing, unsettling, and overwhelming effect. It also results in a world where to value human life, to not kill, maim, torture, or enact harm makes you an outlier. Enter Bruce Wayne.

Gotham's Winter Finale is upon us and it's sure to be one exciting ride.
There's so much happening in Gotham right now, it's making our head spin!
Jerome is on the loose and his number one target is Bruce Wayne. From these photos it looks like Jerome was able to grab the soon-to-be dark crusader, but we're wondering if maybe Bruce will save his own day instead of Alfred doing it for him.
Bruce showed off some pretty badass moves on Gotham Season 3 Episode 13, so we're wondering if he'll get to use them on Gotham Season 3 Episode 14 too!
Although there are no pictures, Penguin and Nygma finally have their face off, but will Penguin be able to deal with the truth when he finds out what Ed did? Maybe they'll kiss and make up. After all, they both did horrible things to each other. Maybe it's time to just let it go?...

Arrow Video wants fans to experience the pleasures contained within their recent The Scarlet Box limited edition set featuring the first three Hellraiser films in HD as well as a bounty of special features that will keep you busy for hours on end. If you’ve been looking to add Clive Barker’s influential and unforgettable original Hellraiser film—or its first two sequels—to your home media collections, you can’t go wrong with The Scarlet Box.
Some things have to be endured. That’s what makes the pleasure so sweet.
Barker’s Hellraiser, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, pushed the boundaries of cinematic horror in ways audiences had never experienced before. Based on his novella The Hellbound Heart, Barker’s feature film adaptation introduces us to Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman), whose soul is transported to a hellish dimension after acquiring a mysterious puzzle box that summons demonic forces.

The cast of Fox's Gotham just got a whole lot more impressive with the addition of James Remar. According to EW, the Dexter actor will play Detective James Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) Uncle Frank, who returns to the city after a 25 year absence. Apparently "Frank has a dark secret that will force Jim to choose between saving his family and saving Gotham." Remar will probably be best known 'round these parts for TV roles in the likes of Battlestar Galactica and The Vampire Diaries, but he also starred in some '80s classics such as The Warriors and 48 Hrs. Gotham returns with an all-new episode tomorrow night at 8 p.m. Et on Fox.

Sideshow Collectibles teased the upcoming Hell Priestess Cenobite earlier this month, but the artwork doesn’t compare to seeing the actual premium format figure in person. Making its debut on the Comic-Con show floor, the Hell Priestess must be seen up close to be truly appreciated.
I had reservations about this latest Cenobite creation after seeing the initial teaser art, but the pose, base, and full figure design easily won me over. This figure is not just a female copy of Pinhead, with its pierced hands, skinned legs, and an exposed back being nice added touches that make the Hell Priestess a clever mix of the skinned versions of Uncle Frank / Julia and our favorite pin-headed Cenobite.
The base and pose also continue Sideshow’s push to make their premium format figures a centerpiece in your home. In this case, the Hell Priestess is floating out of Lemarchand’s box,...

For the 25 years Home Alone has made itself present in our memories and DVD collections, we've always known that Uncle Frank was a big, damned jerk. However, if you watch this deleted scene that's cropped up on the internet this past weekend, you'll see that we've been underestimating his power all of this time. There are so many things wrong with this picture, which was brought to our attention by the folks at SlashFilm. The biggest problem being, of course, the fact that Uncle Frank is an immature creep for yanking down his nephew's pants, all in the name of a stupid gag. It certainly wouldn't be out of character for, say, his brother Buzz to stoop to such lengths. But his uncle, who's supposed to be a "better example" for the rest of the kids? That's not his brand of behavior. Cutting this scene from the final cut of...

Twenty-five years ago, Macaulay Culkin taught the world that a home invasion can result in physical comedy magic and family fun for all. Yes, Home Alone first opened in theaters on Nov. 16, 1990. Of course, Home Alone taught us other lessons too. For example, you can accidentally abandon your child without getting in trouble with Child Protective Services. We learned that a scary old man next door just might be a lonely guy who's handy with a snow shovel. And perhaps most important of all, Home Alone proved you can make a successful movie starring one child actor onscreen alone for...

When discussing iconic horror film series of the modern age, the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday The 13th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Scream always come up, and rightly so, but whereas they are often spoken of with wry, knowing smiles, when it comes to Hellraiser, and Pinhead, brows often become furrowed and conversations become serious, such is the reverence for Clive Barker’s most famous creation.
Those of us who were captivated by Hellraiser when it first graced cinema screens way back in 1987 have never quite forgotten the power and intelligence of that first film, and were equally enrapt by the sequel Hellbound the following year, and to a lesser extent by 1992’s third offering Hell On Earth. The collection works very nicely in deed, mainly because its focus revolves around creator Clive Barker’s involvement in the franchise. Whilst Barker had a small interest in the fourth instalment Hellraiser IV: Bloodline, it would be the...

Here are more nerdy spots in the final two Trek films to date: Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness...
Spoilers for Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness lie ahead.
Like their forerunners, the two latest Star Trek films, in their semi-rebooted, alternative universe, are replete with famous faces from outside the franchise, surprising cameos and multiple little touches that raise a smile.
With the third film in the rebooted series coming next year, the 50th anniversary of the debut of Star Trek on TV in 1966, let's take a look at a few of the geeky nods in Jj's Trek films.
1. Star Trek Nemesis left a lot of dangling threads, on purpose, as a story treatment for a direct sequel was already being worked on. Unfortunately due to some less than stellar decisions by executives, the release date of the film was repositioned and the decision...

Could 1990 comedy Home Alone be the best Christmas movie of all time? James lays out his argument...
Gremlins is great and Elf is ace. Bad Santa is bitchin' and The Muppets Christmas Carol is sensational, inspirational, celebrational and Muppetational. Die Hard is dead good, Miracle On 34th Street is magic and It's A Wonderful Life is truly, erm, wonderful.
None of them, though, can confidently state that they are the Best Christmas Movie of All Time. Only one film can claim that title, and that film is Home Alone, which is undoubtedly and without question the Best Christmas Movie of All Time. There's legitimate space for a debate as to whether Home Alone 2: Lost In New York deserves the prestigious label but, really, with Home Alone being the original article I think it's only right that we let it stand as number one.
There's a chance that this might be news to you,...

It’s only very much in retrospect I realize the dark things that still compel me (horror, metal, general ‘sploitation), which I’d always felt had found me by accident, had actually been calling out for many years.
There’s a photo of me and my older cousin Ian. I’m standing Right next to him, the biggest badass in my life, at his birthday party. I’m looking pleased and “tough” in my Styx ¾ sleeve shirt. Ian played drums in a band; I saw them rehearse Judas Priests’ You’ve Got Another Thing Comin‘ once; that’s seminal stuff. I once heard Dark Side of the Moon with him. Or, rather, some of it. The sounds, coupled with the Rush poster image depicting a naked man plunging into the 2112 pentagram had me literally running to my mom.

waterworks each weeknight at 11 as we turn on the cinematic shower. Here's Andrew Kendall on Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
No, it’s not December, but I'm taking a trip down memory lane to ubiqutious Christmas film. The Macaulay Culkin Home Alone films were ubiqutious during my childhood and I was obsessed with them. Kevin McCallister is just the kind of precocious child that children would be enamoured with. And, still, for all the obsession for some odd reason I never saw the first five minutes of the New York based sequel until a few years ago, which robbed me of some essential information regarding one of two important showers in it. As the family prepares to go out to a Christmas shower Kevin laments that his Uncle Frank is keeping him from getting dressed.

It was the mid-80s. I couldn’t have been older than seven or eight... three feet of trouble in constant search of quality entertainment. It didn’t matter if it was unearthed outdoors or discovered on a couch in Los Angeles at my Uncle Frank’s house.
I recall being on edge as the VHS player sucked the tape into its mysterious mechanical bowels. When the screen came to life, I remember the butterflies. And that’s not bullshit. I recollect the somersaults my stomach executed that creepy but amazingly memorable – maybe even life-changing – night.
In retrospect I can say that watching Ghostbusters for the first time could be likened to the first time I glimpsed a pair of bare breasts, in the flesh, displayed before my own eyes. The heart pounds, and beads of sweat, heavy with anxiety, stream down the forehead. Hopes are high and can’t possibly be met.

Filmmaker: Why this movie? Why did you decide to do it? Candler: Hellion started as a short film that played Sundance in 2012. The original story for the short came from a story my Uncle Frank would tell at family gatherings. When Frank was little, he and my two other Uncles set fire to my grandfather’s jeep. What happened when my grandfather came home to discover the destruction was the nugget of a story I fictionalized into Hellion. Wesley Snipes is back baby! If I seem excited, I kinda am. I made peace with guilty pleasures a long time ago so I can speak frankly about being a fan. I love Blade in the comics and thought Snipes was a perfect choice for the big screen incarnations. If
Wesley Snipes did nothing more for his entire career except sign Blade posters at horror cons, I would be there. Guess what though, he’s been working pretty consistently since his IRS woes, and although it may not be as quite the high profile gigs he may have been used to, he’s doing alright.
When I noticed Gallowwalkers was streaming on Netflix, the only thing that could have made me the slightest bit apprehensive was if it had been a musical. No, I’m not anti-musical by the way, but if film were food,...

Way back in 2006 came the announcement that Clive Barker, Hellraiser's original director (and author of the novella, The Hellbound Heart, on which it was based) had agreed to write the screenplay for a remake for the Weinsteins. Little more was heard on that score, and the new Hellraiser then went through various iterations at Dimension before seemingly dying a death. Now however, we're back to square one, with Barker once again announcing on that he's re-opening the puzzle box. He promises the story will be re-told "with fresh intensity, honouring the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film".That first incarnation, we should remember, was not all about Doug Bradley's iconic Pinhead. Hellraiser is the story of Kirsty Cotton, her father Larry, wicked stepmother Julia and psychonaut Uncle Frank. Frank comes into posession of a mysterious puzzle box that opens up a world of pain when solved,...

It was a big night on Rookie Blue, as "For Better, For Worse" reminded us that life's way too long to go through it alone.
With Noelle and Frank's wedding just hours away, the status of every couple's relationship was put under the microscope.
We'll start with Sam and Marlo. The latter was headed off on a long planned vacation without Sam. As she waffled about going, he didn't seem to mind the separation. Although they still appeared solid as a couple, I found it interesting that Sam would be going to this wedding solo.
Gail was at her cynical best as the wedding loomed near. Whether you love Gail or hate her, you have to give her credit for always saying exactly how she feels. Her feelings about Chloe have not changed an iota and she was more than happy to rip into Dov's chipper new girlfriend when she got the chance.

Recently Sydney was at a gathering here in L.A. and she ran into our dear friends from 'the biz' Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. They were excited about to begin directing a new film they had written about the last days of cinema great Errol Flynn in Cuba detailing, among other things, the making of his final film Cuban Rebel Girls.
Sydney looks at them and says, "Peter's in that film!"
Yes I was in Errol Flynn's final film Cuban Rebel Girls and as a result of that fortuitous conversation, I also —ahem -- "appear" in the new film with Kevin Kline, Dakota Fanning and Susan Sarandon. The producer is the amazing person and great filmmaker Christine Vachon of New York's Killer Films.
The story then is like this ....
When I was a boy -- a young teen from Whitestone Bayside Flushing Queens New York City -- and my schoolteacher Mom would be off from school, my dad, an attorney, would take us on travel holidays for Easter vacation.
One year he goes to the Flushing travel agent and says, "What do you have for Puerto Rico?" The travel agent looks down and says, "Puerto Rico's full up ... but Cuba's wide open!" So my Dad books it.
April 1959: My Mom, Dad, Sister Brenda (19 years old and looking good), Uncle Frank and Auntie Lala (Mom's kid sister) and I land in Havana.
Four months after the Revolution. Much Much to say about what was going on and what happened and what we saw and experienced for that's another story.
We stayed at the El Comodoro Hotel on the beach west of Havana central (still there and not changed so much now).
What's relevant here is that soon after we arrive a film crew pulls into the hotel. It's the actor Errol Flynn coming to make, as he told us, "...my version of how I saved the Revolution for Che and Fidel in the Sierra Maestre." At this time the U.S. had not yet turned against the Castro brothers (that would come in mid 1960 after the Russian connection and Fidel's love of Marxism became evident) and during their revolutionary struggle in the mountains U.S. celebrities visited them (i.e., much as such types do now in places like Haiti).
My sister and I were recruited to do a walk-on as Cuban kid autograph seekers when Flynn drives up to the Hotel. (Fyi - I got the DVD of that film, Cuban Rebel Girls from Amazon and checked and Yes! our scene is still in it the first 10 minutes.)
So cut to Atlanta last week where I stopped for a day returning home from the Berlinale Festival and Efm Market.
Now I can announce that I am (briefly) in this new film about the last days of Flynn entitled The Last of Robin Hood, written and directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. When they heard I was in the original film with Flynn they thought it would be cool to put me in the new one as I would be the only (alive) person in both films!!
In "my scene" in the new film I play the director of Flynn's last movie (with Kevin Kline as Flynn hovering over my shoulder) and I am watching / directing a scene between Dakota and a "Cuban" girl. Dakota plays the tabloid notorious (and then famous) 17 year old blond hottie, and Flynn's supposed girlfriend, Beverly Aadland. She was at our hotel with her mother as I recall, and the photo here, which I took then, shows her and Flynn poolside.
I can say that Kevin and Dakota were very good in "my scene" and I have one line, or one word actually, 'Cut!' As it is a key scene (Dakota / Beverly flirts with a teen boy and Kevin / Flynn gets upset) and the two stars are in it (and both very good!) I have a feeling the scene will end up in the film.
As I was working, taking photos was hard and Kevin didn't want any, but the one included here of the Cuban Rebel Girls running at the camera says it all.
I think the film will be good; from what I saw it also looked really interesting. Can't wait until it shows.
Postscript note - About a year and a half later the Flynn film Cuban Rebel Girls came out (he had died in December of 1959 a few months after our encounter) I took a group of my high school buddies to see it in, of all places, Times Square (which was very different then, quite seedy and low class). I was shocked and we all agreed it was one of the worst films we'd ever seen. But Flynn himself is a great story, and my gut says from all I saw that the new film will be Terrific!! I hope so.

Love your enemies. Of any other time of the year this saying should be most closest to our hearts. Yet despite the yuletide spirit that pervades the air this time of year, there still are those who persist in being a pest and pain not just to you but to the world in general. I’m talking about the those we refer to as jerks (a.k.a. bozos, stinkers, cads, finks, heels, slime-balls or creeps).
In case you didn’t know Christmas for jerks is a grand opportunity to up their game. What better time of the year, when there are so many pressures and obligations weighing on people already to really crank up the torment and send someone into a seasonal nervous breakdown. The fact that we can make it through the holiday season, having dealt with so many disagreeable people should not be taken for granted as...

In 1994, when I was eight years old, I became obsessed with “Home Alone.” At the time, I owned both “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” on VHS, along with two “Home Alone” posters, a “Home Alone” video game and even the novelization of “Home Alone” by Todd Strasser. I have no explanation for my fandom, other than the fact that I saw the film's protagonist, Kevin McCalister, as some type of hero, one who was forced to defend his house from two burglars on Christmas. Soon enough, I found myself writing a letter to the film's writer/producer John Hughes. Several months earlier, I had created a new chapter in the “Home Alone” series, and was now wondering whether Mr. Hughes would be willing to option it. At that point, my only knowledge of the filmmaker was that he was somehow involved with creating “Home Alone,...

Alma Mobley, Ghost Story
Alma is an angry spirit out for revenge, with good reason, against some stupid guys who got away with what they did for way too long.
Plus, you have to admire her ingenuity in many ways.
For example, how many ghosts do you know of who are able to make themselves solid and go get a job as a secretary as part of their whole evil plan?
Daniel Robitaille, Candyman
Daniel/Candyman suffered from racism and unimaginable pain in life, all for the crime of falling in love. Now he’s dealing with being conjured up by Helen the grad student who thinks she’s smarter than everyone else, so he’s got to show her what’s what.
How would you feel if you’d been through all that and someone tried to claim that you were an urban legend?...

"Mrs. Doubtfire" isn't a horror movie -- "It was a run-by fruiting" is never not funny -- but that doesn't mean it can't look like a horror movie.
Created by Vimeo user Peter Javidpour over a year ago and recently unearthed by intrepid internet user Matt Cherette, the clip is dark and ominous in ways that recall Robin Williams' thrillers "One Hour Photo" and "Insomnia." There's also all that makeup work, which -- when viewed through the prism of a horror film -- seems awfully terrifying. What would Uncle Frank and Aunt Jack think?

Assuming this won’t be some sort of insane hybrid of beloved holiday classic Home Alone and Uwe Boll “masterpiece” Alone in the Dark, ABC Family has announced that they will air the fifth installment in the Home Alone franchise, titled Home Alone 5: Alone in the Dark. (On second thought, that would be sort of amazing.)
Alas, fans of the 1990 Macaulay-Culkin-battles-home intruders comedy will still watch in complete horror as the Home Alone name carries on without the exploits of Kevin McCallister and the wet/sticky bandits. In addition to coming to terms with this, devotees of the original...

On the last day of seventh grade, I left my middle school into a baking-hot late June day to go see Jurassic Park with my Great Uncle Frank. I would miss Heather Nunn's pizza party—where everybody would be—to the detriment of my 12-year-old social life, but Jurassic Park was one of those massive summer movies that defined the 90's cinematically. Another in a long line of special effects-riddled thrill rides that allowed for an escape from the oppressiveness of the sweltering sun and the mundane months of rural Connecticut summers, Jurassic Park was 120-plus minutes of old-school movie magic in a cool, dark room with your heart pounding due to both the onscreen thrills and the sugar rush of Reese's...

Robert De Niro has long been known as one of the most notoriously intimidating celebrities to interview. (Just ask Jimmy Fallon, who, as you’ll recall, inexplicably choose to have him as his first-ever guest on his show.) Of course, the reserved actor seems a lot less scary when you place him next to Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s security guard/star Guillermo Diaz, who dressed up like a Canadian Mountie for the sit-down at the Toronto Film Festival. (Jkl is broadcasting from the fete this week.) In an exclusive — sorry, exclusivo — interview, Diaz sat down uncomfortably close to De Niro...
