Way back in 2006, it was announced that Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer) had signed on to direct an adaptation of the supernatural private eye thriller comic book Hawaiian Dick, working from a script by Freddy vs. Jason writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. There was talk about Johnny Knoxville starring in the film and Patrick Wilson was approached about joining the cast, but the project never made it into production. Years have passed, but obviously something about the concept of Hawaiian Dick really stuck with Wilson, because in a recent interview he revealed that he would like to direct a Hawaiian Dick adaptation himself!
Wilson is currently doing the press rounds for his feature directorial debut Insidious: The Red Door, which is set to reach theatres on July 7th. While he was speaking with ComicBook.com, he was asked if there’s a comic book adaptation he’d be interested in directing.

Judging by the title, cover, and first page, subtlety is not something this title is aspiring to. That’s not a bad thing, as these days it’s a crowded comic book shop shelf you need to stand out from. Truth be told, that’s exactly what got me to pick the book up. Interesting cover, concept seemed cool, B.Clay Moore always seems to turn up on generally interesting stories, and the art looked good. I only dip into Valiant very occasionally at the moment, but know they are making a really strong push at the moment to freshen up their line and get attention. Psi-Lords was pretty decent, so let’s see how Killers shapes up.
From the beginning this looks like being a high octane book. We jump from Colorado, to Italy, to London...

DC Comics' "The Vampire Diaries" comic book series, debuting in 2013, ran for 39 issues, adapting The CW TV series, featuring stories by B. Clay Moore, Colleen Doran, Leah Moore and John Reppion:
"...the series is set in 'Mystic Falls', Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history since its settlement of migrants from New England in the late 19th century.
"Elena Gilbert' (Nina Dobrev), a teenage girl who has just lost both parents in a car accident, falls in love with a 162-year-old vampire named 'Stefan Salvatore' (Paul Wesley).
"Their relationship becomes increasingly complicated as Stefan's mysterious older brother 'Damon Salvatore' (Ian Somerhalder) returns, with a plan to resurrect his past lover 'Katherine Pierce', a vampire who looks exactly like Elena.

"The first issue is going into the mythology behind vervain," previews Colleen Doran, who's writing the tales on an alternating schedule with fellow comic-book contributor B. Clay Moore. Fans worried that newcomers Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch could possibly edge out Black Widow and Hawkeye from "Avengers: Age of Ultron" need not worry, says writer/director Joss Whedon. At two separate events during last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con International, the Avengers assembler revealed that there's still plenty of room for the spytastic duo, and that they might even get bigger roles to play in the sequel.
While Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow got more screen time than most of her teammates in the first film, Hawkeye hardly registered. Jeremy Renner was publicly bummed by the role the archer played in the final film, and that's something Whedon has taken into consideration for "Age of Ultron" since Renner's involvement was confirmed.
"It's very much a global Avengers film," said Whedon in a quote reported by ScreenRant. "A lot of the movie has to do with their place not just in America,...

Fast Five director Justin Lin has been brought on board to develop an adaptation of the five part comic book series The Leading Man. The comic was created by B. Clay Moore and Jeremy Haun, and published by Oni Press. The story follows a famous Hollywood super star who is also one of the worlds greatest spies. He is fighting terrorism in between his trips to Cannes France. Bleeding cool compares it to Mission Impossible meets Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind.
This sounds like that kind of story that Lin could turn into a exciting action-packed film. Here's a brief rundown of the story and character.
There's more to the world's hottest actor than sexy starlets, tabloid gossip and primo parts because Nick Walker isn't just a Hollywood hunk, he's also a superspy.
When a routine investigation off the coast of France turns up a terrorist training facility, Nick must...

Business has been good for Justin Lin. Fresh off of directing Fast Five, the fifth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise (of which Lin has directed three) to $605 million worldwide, the director is certainly in demand. Yesterday, Lin inked a two-year first-look deal for his newly formed production company Barnstorm Pictures with Universal Pictures. Barnstorm will be based on the Universal lot. There, Lin will be working on what’s being called an “elevated tentpole” aimed at global audiences. But that’s not all. He’s already put together a rather busy slate of directing and producing gigs that include an action-adventure spy film called Leading Man, an adaptation of the comic released in 2006 written by B. Clay Moore. The story centers on a...

Comic book creator gender ratios are always a hot topic in the Twittersphere when they get discussed, and Gail Simone broached the subject last night with her followers. B. Clay Moore, Jeff Parker and Lea Hernandez contributed to the debate, which you can dive into in more detail through their respective accounts.
There was another debate going on as well, however, as the Republican presidential front-runners for 2012 talked about non-comics stuff on TV. Ron Marz on his Michele Bachmann dreams, Chris Weston on "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" and Stephen Colbert on his Disney aspirations ranked atop our list of favorite posts for the morning.

The second series ran into numerous publication delays, but was completed in July of 2006. DC Comics established a talking point for the entire comics industry Monday by announcing Bob Harras as the publisher's new editor-in-chief. Mark Millar had an opinion on the matter, as did Tony Lee.
In other tweets, the Bear/Packers game last night brought fans from both sides out onto their accounts from across the country. By the end of the night, Chicago supporters were much happier, and Kody Chamberlain raised a valid point about those crazy on-field field graphics that appear on TV. Geoff Johns has been careful recently not to reveal to much about DC's movie plans. Nevertheless, Johns' official word on his goal for a "Flash" movie is "Soon."
Meanwhile, Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" actually does exist right now, and it's been stirring up some reactions this week. Ben Templesmith and Chris Ryall both weighed in via tweets, and they appear to share some apprehension. Find out what they're worried about after the jump. There, you'll also see a Superman sighting from the Marvel offices, a Nascar observation and a biographical note from Todd McFarlane.
It's all covered in the Twitter Report for May 13, 2010.

Jon Favreau had one thing on his mind last night while he was trying to fall asleep, and the words "Iron" and "Man" were definitely involved. If he was watching the Twitter Report feed, he would have at least seen that "Y: The Last Man" artist Pia Guerra enjoyed it. I'm sure many others did, too, and will continue to do so over the course of the weekend.
Kieron Gillen, meanwhile, didn't sound like he's been all that impressed with the new game "Alan Wake." He voiced some skepticism about the new release's reception. Ron Marz, of course, is always more than skeptical about comic book piracy. Marz, Kurt Busiek and B. Clay Moore all weighed in on the topic in the last 24 hours. Their opinions come in the wake of an FBI raid on the comics-hosting site HTMLcomics.com.

Breaking into comics is one of those topics that seems to resurface every few lunar cycles in the comics blog and Twittersphere. Creators like Jeff Parker and Chris Eliopoulos have heard the conversation a hundred times or more, I'm sure, but luckily that means they can now share their sage advice via tweets.

Wes Anderson's not directing the next Spider-Man movie — even if YouTube homage trailers suggest that he should. Mitch Breitweiser came up with an intriguing alternative in the Twitter Report feed, however, and I dare say it's a brilliant solution to another one of Marvel's film franchises.

Beck sounds like he might have recorded more tracks than previously thought for the "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" soundtrack. Who would have thought there were Quentin Tarantino fans working in comics? Surprisingly enough, "Inglourious Basterds" pops up in more than one writer's tweets this morning in the Twitter Report. Nobody ever said getting an indie comic book to the big screen was easy. Unlike established franchises, creator-owned books tend to jump through more than a few hoops and can often see numerous options before realizing their cinematic potential.
Case in point: B. Clay Moore (”Billy Smoke“) and Steve Griffin’s supernatural detective tale, “Hawaiian Dick.” Published by Image Comics, the tropical ’50s noir property was picked up by New Line Cinema in 2004 and renewed again in 2006 with director Frank Coraci (”Click”) attached to direct. The option has since lapsed, but according to Moore, it’s not the end of the story.
“The option on ‘Hawaiian Dick’ expired (after being renewed) with New Line, so technically it’s an available property,” Moore told MTV News. “Having said that, there’s some work being done behind the scenes to move it forward as a feature film. We’ll see where it goes,...

The world’s greatest actor may soon become the world’s greatest spy — at least if writer B. Clay Moore and artist Jeremy Haun have their way. Oni Press’ “The Leading Man” is currently in the pipeline at Universal, and while there’s still plenty that needs to happen before the cameras roll, given Oni’s relative Hollywood renaissance of late with Bryan Lee O’Malley’s “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” and Greg Rucka’s “Whiteout,” the odds for adaptation could look a whole lot worse — especially considering how quickly Moore’s “Billy Smoke” is currently climbing the ranks in Tinsel Town.
“Universal renewed ['The Leading Man'] option last year, and there is talent being recruited as we speak,” Moore told MTV News. “Universal has kept a lid on some of the details, but things look promising as of now. Obviously, you never know how things are going to pan out, but...

Despite moviegoers’ comic book cravings, successful film adaptations are never a sure thing. So much can happen between pitch and production that creators tend to keep their cool until a project actually begins filming.

Unlike, well, just about every other comic book film, “Smoke” was optioned based on a 2005 comic book pitch rather than a completed work. It’s new territory, but the production model seems to be working. Fox has been attached to...

It's a scary thing when I can barely remember where I left my cell phone, but I go "Billy Smoke? I did a story on that last year." Logically, at the finale he'll have to top himself as well, and then the world will be full of fluffy kittens and we'll all be free to frolick in flower-filled meadows (Editor's note: wild speculation, please do not accuse us of spoiling anything). The script, by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason), is based on the 2002 comic by B. Clay Moore and Steven Griffin. Johnny Knoxville was at one point pegged to star.
