Breakfast at Little Dom’s is doing nothing to assuage Chelsea Peretti’s current frustration with Los Angeles. We’re discussing how inescapable the entertainment industry can be in a booth branded with a dedicatory plaque to Jon Hamm. One table over, Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao is taking a meeting and, on the other side of the window, a man walking his dog is starting to look a little familiar. “To make good art, you need to live your life, but most people here are just working and working out,” says Peretti, turning her attention to the man outside. “I’m pretty sure that’s Max Minghella. What a town, huh?”
Peretti’s geographic misgivings, all of them delivered in a deadpan familiar to any of her viewers, listeners or followers, are not entirely serious. Just one day after her 46th birthday, the Bay Area native is the first to...

Martin Scorsese is opening up about a breaking point in his career.
While filming his 2002 film “Gangs of New York,” Scorsese said he felt creatively strangled by the studio system, particularly by working with producer Harvey Weinstein with whom Scorsese fought over the length and budget of the period piece.
“I realized that I couldn’t work if I had to make films that way ever again,” Scorsese told GQ in a cover story. “If that was the only way that I was able to be allowed to make films, then I’d have to stop. Because the results weren’t satisfying. It was at times extremely difficult, and I wouldn’t survive it. I’d be dead. And so I decided it was over, really.”
Only two years later, Scorsese reunited with Weinstein on 2004’s “The Aviator” which also starred “Gangs of New York” lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

A distressingly large number of first-time American indie films focus on coming-of-age stories. In cases where the director is gay, there’s a good chance their first feature will be a coming-out/coming-of-age story. What else should we expect? The directors haven’t been on earth all that long, and they write what they know, or else, what they’ve seen in other movies.
That said, “Big Boys” surprised me. Corey Sherman’s deliciously uncomfortable debut features a lot of the usual ingredients: a misfit teenage protagonist, a transformative couple days, a series of embarrassing but life-altering experiences. But I hadn’t seen anyone like his main character at the center of a movie before and loved how awkwardly this kid navigates trying to figure himself out.

Aubrey Plaza has a history with "Saturday Night Live" that goes back to her earliest days in show business. In addition to serving as an NBC page, just like Kenneth Parcell on "30 Rock," the "Parks and Recreation" star also served as an intern for "SNL" from 2004-2005. While working with the set design department, she made a brief appearance as a background player in one of Kristen Wiig's "Target Lady" sketches. So it's a proud full circle moment to have Plaza taking the stage in Studio 8H to make her debut as an "SNL" host in the first episode of 2023.
Though Plaza didn't mention her brief screentime on "SNL" during her monologue, she did reflect on the coveted internship and reunited with the set design department in the recurring monologue premise that has the host taking the audience on a tour of the studio. The opening bit set...

The Black Eyed Peas showed their solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community during their appearance on Poland’s Tvp New Year’s Eve gig, the same show Mel C dropped out of last week.
When the four-member group appeared on stage they were all seen wearing a rainbow armbands. Apl.de.ap, J. Rey Soul, Taboo and will.i.am showed their support to the community during the broadcast on the Polish public broadcaster.
The act from the “Where Is The Love?” singers caused quite a commotion from Polish anti-gay activists like Marcin Warchol, a member of Poland’s Law and Justice Party (PiS). The political party has taken steps to further marginalize the LGBTQ+ community by proposing laws against the group.
“LGBT promotion in TVP2. Disgrace! It’s not a New Year’s Eve of Dreams but a New Year’s Eve of Deviance,” Warchol tweeted.

UK crime drama The Missing ran for two seasons in 2014 and 2016 on BBC One, where it was a hit by anybody’s standards. The logical next step would have been a third and possibly fourth, fifth and sixth season, but none arrived. Instead, the show’s creators Harry and Jack Williams changed direction and created two seasons of a spin-off starring The Missing’s lead detective Julien Baptiste. With the British thriller now finding new fans internationally on Netflix, many are asking why season three of The Missing was never made.
The reason for the Williams Bros.’ switch to a spin-off was built into the original show’s premise. Seasons one and two of The Missing focused on failures in the long career of Det. Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo). The first was the disappearance of five-year-old Oliver Hughes, an English boy holidaying with his parents in a French town. The second...

American Samoa: Tenelle Luafalemana has been described by many as “a breath of fresh air.” Tenelle isn’t exactly sure when her love for singing first started, but suggests that growing up with a big family, where talent shows are more competitive than the “X-Factor” itself, may have well done it. Tenelle describes her home...

Taboo is a curio. The eight-episode first season aired on BBC One and FX in early 2017, and was immediately followed by talk of further seasons. Written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the premise had been conceived by actor-producer Tom Hardy and his writer father. It was the story of 19th century antihero James Delaney, a man who scandalised Regency London by going up against the East India Company, the Crown, and societal norms until finally escaping England with a ragtag crew of ‘pilgrims’. Things were left on an ellipsis, not a full stop. And then… nothing.
Steven Knight, who’d worked with Hardy on Locke and Peaky Blinders, confirmed in 2019 that the season two scripts were almost written, but production was then stalled by a combination of the Venom movies and Covid-19. In November 2021, Hardy told Esquire that he was still weighing up the best options for a second season,...

Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino (“The Batman”) is making the leap to the director’s chair. Giacchino will make his feature directorial debut on Marvel Studios’ yet-untitled Halloween special.
Golden Globe-winning Mexican actor Gael García Bernal set to lead the cast of the werewolf-focused show that will air on Disney+.
Production on the Halloween special is set to begin later this month.
Giacchino previously directed the 2018 short film “Monster Challenge” and an episode of the animated series “Star Trek: Short Treks,” but the Marvel film will mark his feature debut.
While details about the project are being kept strictly under wraps, individuals with knowledge say the character may be based on “Werewolf by Night,” the name used by two separate Marvel characters.
The first, Jack Russell, was created by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog, based on concepts by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas, and first appeared in a 1972 issue of “Marvel Spotlight.

Everyone who watches This Is Us with any regularity knows that Rebecca Pearson has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and likely will be dead by the end of the show’s current, and final, season. But that knowledge can be difficult to reconcile, given how gently the disease has crept into the Pearson matriarch’s life so far.
Aside from the very scary incident in which a disoriented Rebecca couldn’t find her way back to the cabin on The Big 3’s 40th birthday, her memory loss and mental degradation have existed mainly as a sad undercurrent, and not a game-changing development,...

Marvel Studios is searching for a Latino actor to lead an untitled Halloween special for Disney Plus, Variety has confirmed.
The special could be based on “Werewolf by Night,” which would denote two separate characters in the Marvel comic book universe. The first, Jack Russell, debuted in the comic “Marvel Spotlight #2” in February 1972. Russell has a family history of lycanthropy — or the supernatural transformation of a human into a wolf — but uses his power for good, and is able to remain aware of his transformations.
The second character, Jake Gomez, was introduced into the Marvel universe last year in the comic “Werewolf by Night (Vol. 3) #1.” Created by Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, Scot Eaton and Benjamin Jackendoff, Gomez is described to be a descendant of the Native American tribe Hopi who has been cursed with lycanthropy, also through his lineage.
Though it is unconfirmed if the character will be based on “Werewolf by Night,...

Pennyworth Season 2 is coming soon to Epix, continuing to fulfill the show’s touted remit as a prequel to the Batman mythos, notably with Alfred’s eventual arrival in Gotham City.
Having debuted on July 28, 2019, Pennyworth is the product of creator/executive producer/writer Bruno Heller and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (CSI franchise), and served as a quick reunion of key personnel from another Batman prequel series, Fox’s Gotham, which had just ended its five-season run that April. However, any associations end there, since Pennyworth is set in London in the 1960s, therefore—after doing some quick math—eliminating the notion of any continuity connection with the contemporary-set Gotham. Indeed, Pennyworth turned out to be a colorful crime series with swinging ‘60s aesthetics and a slightly over-the-top charm that’s not bound by its nevertheless-looming pre-Batman status.

With every successful cultural movement, you’re bound to have bandwagon jumpers. As a plurality of reggaetoneros, traperos, and pop singers from across Latin America enjoy unprecedented albeit overdue global success, tourists like DJ Khaled, DJ Snake, and Tyga have inevitably glommed onto their sound, with varying degrees of success.
None of these attempts have felt quite so cravenly opportunistic and sonically shallow as that of the Black Eyed Peas, who have struggled to maintain a semblance of their former cultural omnipresence in the years since the departure of Fergie.
