✮✮✮✮✮/✮✮✮✮✮ | ♛

Favourite scene: The Free Fall

Best actor: Tom Cruise, but Henry Cavill is great too!

My fourth watch of this, but felt like my second* [with the 2018 cinema visit being the first] due to me watching it on a bigger screen and the blu-ray deal.

* = In 2018 I went to another cinema in another city to see this without the 3D effects. One of the best cinema experiences.

2. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)

✮✮✮✮✮/✮✮✮✮✮ | ♛

Favourite scene: The Bank Shootout, but The Dinner Scene is great too!

Best actor: Tough Call, but I have to say Robert De Niro

I knew when I bought this film on blu-ray I had to see on my TV, especially the Bank Shootout sequence.

But planning this film into my schedule was hard. The total running time of a 170 minutes is a lot and I wanted to watch it in one sitting. And not to forget I had to watch it in the afternoon [my father wasn't too pleased with cracked up sound during Mission: Impossible - Fallout].

But I finally sat down for it Sunday, in the afternoon [almost didn't because rewatch cuz the first part of my afternoon was already packed as it is], but I rewatched it and loved it.

6. Wachtkamer (2017)

Votes: 27

Date Watched: Thursday, January. 13, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

One of the better Kort! shorts. I like the story is constantly making you question what's real and what's not.

Also seeing Rifka Lodeizen's big... eyes, made this more serious short more bearable.

7. Airplane! (1980)

PG | 88 min | Comedy

78 Metascore

After the crew becomes sick with food poisoning, a neurotic ex-fighter pilot must safely land a commercial airplane full of passengers.

Directors: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker | Stars: Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Favourite scene: The Deflation of the Automatic Pilot

Best actor: Leslie Nielsen

A good friend and his little brother were in the mood for a disaster flick, so this fit the bill perfectly. Watched while eating pizza.

And seriously, the film holds up [And Don't Call Me Shirley].

8. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Flipperboobootosis (2014)

TV-G | 5 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Donald gets a foot ailment called "Flipperboobootosis", which Mickey and Goofy try to cure themselves when Donald won't go to the doctor.

One of the worst modern Mickey Mouse shorts. Not a fan of the "body horror" here [shit gave me flashbacks to that one episode of SpongeBob SquarePants with The Splinter, even if it isn't as bad as that.]

9. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Tapped Out (2014)

TV-G | 5 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Goofy volunteers Mickey to fight Pete in a wrestling match.

A perfectly fine Mickey Mouse short. I'm not into Wrestling, so that might be why I don't love this one.

10. Snowpiercer (2013)

R | 126 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

84 Metascore

In a future where a failed climate change experiment has killed all life except for the survivors who boarded the Snowpiercer (a train that travels around the globe), a new class system emerges.

Director: Bong Joon Ho | Stars: Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris

Votes: 389,197 | Gross: $4.56M

[Review] ------------------------------------------------------- Date Watched: Saturday, January. 29, 2022 | How I Watched: blu-ray on PlayStation 3 [second time watch]

✮✮✮✮/✮✮✮✮✮ | ♛

Favourite scene: The First Revolt of the Curtis-Revolution

Best actor: Chris Evans

I want to make another comment about finally watching it on a bigger screen, but I already feel I have beaten that horse too much.

A few days after finishing the Integral version of the Snowpiercer graphic novel, I really felt the need to rewatch this.

This adaption is quite different, but it works quite well and even improves on certain aspects where the original source material fell short.

I am still not a fan of the ending though. I do prefer the ending of the graphic novel though.

And I can't forget to mention how much I love the musical score for this film.

11. Total Recall (1990)

R | 113 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

60 Metascore

When a man goes in to have virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars implanted in his mind, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real - or is he?

Favourite scene: Metro

Best actor: Arnold Schwarzenegger

Hadn't seen this one in a long time, so I felt the need to revisit one of my favourite films from one of my favourite directors.

It still holds up, but I wasn't as engaged [due to some personal shit in my life].

Date Watched: Wednesday, February. 2, 2022 | How I Watched: blu-ray on PlayStation 3 [second time watch]

Incredibly interesting making-of on how the models were built and set up, but also how the X-ray Skeleteon effects were done.

Had forgotten to log it when I first watched this, so I'm glad this rewatch was in other.

13. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Third Wheel (2014)

TV-G | 5 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Date Watched: Wednesday, February. 2, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

I think the creators of the modern shorts aren't hiding their distaste for Goofy anymore. Funny short, but makes the same mistakes Flipperboobootosis did.

14. Het paard en de nachtegaal (2013)

10 min | Short, Drama

15-year-old Cihan accompanies his grandmother on a trip to Turkey to attend a wedding. They have little in common and have to spend a day together in Istanbul. Despite the distance between the two, they can share some small moments.

Director: Nazli Elif Durlu | Stars: Emine Altunten, Amine El Arfaoui

Date Watched: Thursday, February. 3, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

One of the absolute worst Kort! shorts. While I don't hate it as much as I did the first viewing, this is a highly uneventful short, because there's no drama and no plot to speak off.

15. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: The Adorable Couple (2014)

TV-G | 5 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Mickey and Minnie attempt to make Donald and Daisy happy by showing them what life is all about.

[Review] ------------------------------------------------------- Date Watched: Friday, February. 25, 2022 | How I Watched: blu-ray on PlayStation 3 [fifth time watch]

✮✮✮✮/✮✮✮✮✮ | ♛

Favourite scene: I'm Thinking I'm Back!

Best actor: A tie between Keanu Reeves and Michael Nyqvist

After a week [five days] of vacation I decided to (re)watch a film. Even if I was a bit tired I still really enjoyed this one.

This viewing was my first watch of the film on blu-ray, instead of the DVD in my collection.

Michael Nyqvist brings so much class to his performance. Also loved Perkins as the femme fatale here.

Originally planned to watch the trilogy in one day, but I was too tired. Maybe later.

19. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Fire Escape (2014)

One of the better modern Mickey Mouse shorts.

20. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Eau du Minnie (2014)

TV-G | 5 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Minnie puts some new perfume in preparation for a date with Mickey, but it enchants the whole city.

21. Visit (2018)

12 min | Short, Drama

Director: Stijn Bouma | Stars: Agaath Meulenbroek, Abel Nienhuis

Votes: 28

Date Watched: Thursday, March. 3, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

One of the better Kort! shorts. Definitely not a easy film to make but it works.

Agaath Meulenbroek is fantastic and this doesn't warrant the low rating on here.

22. Tron (1982)

PG | 96 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

58 Metascore

A computer hacker is abducted into the digital world and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is with the help of a heroic security program.

Director: Steven Lisberger | Stars: Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan

[Review] ------------------------------------------------------- Date Watched: Friday, March. 4, 2022 | How I Watched: blu-ray on PlayStation 3 [third time watch]

✮✮✮/✮✮✮✮✮

Favourite scene: Helicopter

Best actor: The Bit was the best actor lol. But in all seriousness, I liked David Warner as Ed Dillinger, but not as Sark and the Master Control Program

I hadn't watched it since 2018 and I wanted to see if I my rating would change. On this viewing it almost did [changing it to 3½ stars], but I settled on the same rating now.

I appreciate this film for what it did for CGI/special effects, but I have no connection to any of the characters. Jeff Bridges really delivers a bad performance too [he's seems more stoned/high than The Dude!].

23. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: O Futebol Classico (2014)

TV-G | 4 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Mickey fights for a seat at O Futebol Classico.

Director: Paul Rudish | Stars: Chris Diamantopoulos, Tony Anselmo, Bill Farmer, Marc Zoss

Votes: 164

Date Watched: Wednesday, March. 9, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

The first in line of foreign Mickey Mouse shorts. I do wish they subtitled it in English, so I could get more of a sense of the lingo in this. But it's another good one.

24. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Down the Hatch (2014)

TV-G | 5 min | Animation, Short, Adventure

Mickey, Donald and Goofy visit a science museum, but Mickey and Goofy are shrunk down to molecule size by a shrink ray and then are accidentally swallowed by Donald.

Director: Paul Rudish | Stars: Chris Diamantopoulos, Tony Anselmo, Bill Farmer, Corey Burton

Votes: 159

Date Watched: Wednesday, March. 16, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

Somehow they made as Donald the grossest character. This short is quite similar to Flipperboobootosis, but handled more tastefully.

And I broke my own rules because I watched something one day before my German exam. I made a rule a few years ago that I couldn't watch something a day before a exam and/or test.

Date Watched: Thursday, March. 17, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

This is one of the more underrated Kort! shorts. Without dialogue, Pim Lambeau delivered an excellent performance. Chris W. Mitchell's directing is sublime too [I'll try to check out De poel this year] as he understands horror.

26. Tron (1982)

PG | 96 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

58 Metascore

Watched with the audio commentary by Steven Lisberger, Donald Kushner, Harrison Ellenshaw, and Richard Taylor. [first time with audio commentary.]

Definitely a lot to take in with listening to their commentary. A lot of Techno babble, but interesting regardless.

27. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
Episode: Goofy's Grandma (2014)

This is honestly one of my favourites out of this series. Goofy disguises himself as his Grandma, and Donald as Goofy. Also love the giant spider projected on the animation!

Date Watched: Thursday, March. 24, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

Absolutely one of the saddest Kort! shorts I've seen so far. To see the complete mental breakdown within ten minutes is impressive and Hadewych Minis just shows why she is one of the best Dutch actresses working today, even early on in this.

I almost forget to mention, but the last minute left me quiet for a few minutes. Powerful stuff.

29. Glass (1958)

11 min | Documentary, Short

Documentary about Dutch glass production in the 50s.

Director: Bert Haanstra

For some reason I felt the need to rewatch this short. I'm very hesitant to call something my favourite, but this is becoming one of my favourite short films.

I will try to watch some films by Bert Haanstra this year and the foreseeable future.

[I'll be back on here when my exams are over!]

30. Tron: Legacy (2010)

PG | 125 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

49 Metascore

✮✮½/✮✮✮✮✮

Favourite scene: The Light Cycle Sequence

Best actor: Garrett Hedlund

I remember really enjoying this one [and enjoying it more than the original, but I hadn't seen it in such a while. Upon revisting Tron this month (speaking of March 2022) I was interested to revisit this one.

And...

I don't really like it now... Both films feel lifeless and I don't remember this film being this slow paced.

And I wasn't fond of the same repeat storytelling here, and I don't like how Tron and Clu are the villains here. There's no good reason to do that. Also, the facial Motion Capture on Jeff Bridges' younger self/Clu looked fucking horrendous. And there was too much CGI in this, the original has a good reason for using it, but here the CGI detracts from the immersion.

Daft Punk delivered a great score, and their music was the best part of this film.

When this film was over I just felt empty. Maybe I need a break from films for the time being*.

* = I saved this film for after two of my exams where done. This wasn't worth it.

31. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)

Well... I hate this poster [I'm ashamed to put it on here].

But I thought the directing by Mascha Halberstad is great, and the stop-motion animation is a delight to watch, but I didn't need to see the lead take a piss, or his transformation.

Kay Greidanus' voice work was absolutely atrocious [he was good in Commando's, but not here]

I rather them not take this progressive message further. Dag meneer de Vries was a much better short.

[I wouldn't mind seeing Mascha Halberstad's new feature Knor this year, because she is talanted].

I just felt like rewatching this one. But the real terror this time [not to discredit the film itself] were my parents.

So, I watched this film in two parts. I wish I did it in one sitting, but I couldn't.

I also ate pizza while watching which was fun!

[BTW, I forgot to mention how rewatchable this one is, even on my fourth viewing.]

What can I say about this one? Every scene/frame has been discussed to death, but I loved rewatching this one, but I'm still a bit tired due to school, reviewing and a lot of reading*.

This was my first watch on blu-ray, but I own the film on DVD. I bought that DVD back in 2016 at my internship and I still know when I first watched it [back in a time where I started getting into film and I bought a lot of Scorsese's films on DVD too, at that same place.].

* = If I don't watch a lot until my vacation in May it is because it is either because I'm too tired and/or too busy with finishing things for school and my daily life is quite busy too.

[And I won't be surprised if April and the next few months will be months of short films and making-of's of Taxi Driver and TRON: Legacy]

One of the best films about a (Apex) Predator!

I still enjoy this one, even on my first viewing I loved this film. I saw this film in theaters back in 2019 and I am glad I own this film on blu-ray.

Hope this reaches its cult classic status soon, because this creature feature deserves to be added to it.

But I can't forget to mention that because of the Beneath Crawl documentary I watched two years ago, I now watched this film in another light, in seeing how the set is built, how they made the crawl space and how they flood the set with a million liters of water. Impressive shit.

Date Watched: Saturday, April. 9, 2022 | How I Watched: blu-ray on blu-ray player [third time watch]

This "short" documentary really impressed me, but it shows a bit too much film footage. But unlike most making-of's this also shows quite a bit of behind the scenes stuff.

Not bad.

38. Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)

Still not a huge fan of this one, but I got more out of it now. I get where they go with the story of a working father who neglects his son and the driver trying to socialize with the kid. My problem lies in how close this comes to the stranger danger plot line, which makes this hard to watch.

This was my second watch of this film, and I watched this six (!) years ago as my first viewing, when I started getting into film. I wasn't a big fan of it then, and I'm still not a fan now. It is one of the most overrated action films of the 90s.

Keanu Reeves' acting is quite bad here, but I loved Patrick Swayze [that ending where he disappears in the storm made me sad because I love him as an actor and it is a shame he passed away], Gary Busey and Lori Petty.

And that naked lady that attacks Keanu Reeves and the DEA, I felt that.

Date Watched: Thursday, April. 28, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [second time watch]

Fuck this short!

You might ask yourself why I am so harsh, but it is because it crosses a line that should not/never be crossed!

This short is about a 16 year old girl. I don't have a problem with that. Where I draw the line is the blatant sexuality in this(*). This short and Never Forget both show Richelle Plantinga in a bra and panties. I really hate seeing that because it feels like child porn...

I know this and Never Forget have female directors, but I don't need to see the young lead in a bra and panties, imagining her love interest touching her tits, and I definitely didn't need to see the sex scene. I feel dirty talking about it and I want to puke.

When Poal Cairo's character leaves her arse, I felt he made the right choice. I hated seeing Richelle Plantinga trying her best, but her performance is one of those "I'm an actress and I look too tired to be here and/or I just don't care". Her character is loathable too, thinking of how to fuck Poal Cairo's character, but dumb enough to think we live in World War III [piece of writing on her table].

Even the cinematography by Jasper Wolf isn't anything worth noting. They filmed it with the 4:3 ratio in mind, wow.... [sarcasm]

One of the worst Kort! shorts.

(*) = If I knew the character and lead were 16 years old I would have skipped this one (didn't know this before). Fuck off with this shit.

If you love Taxi Driver, but haven't seen this, I highly recommend this one A.S.A.P. !

This one is a bit personal to me. You see, I'm Dutch and the characters in this short are too. When I watched this last year as my first viewing I didn't realize Minnie Mouse was talking and singing in Dutch.

Even on my second viewing I didn't connect the dots to what she was saying/singing. Russi Taylor [may God rest her soul] tries her best with her American-Dutch accent, but I wish try casted someone else(*), because I can't even grasp what she said.

But I don't even hate this one, nor is it one of the worst of the modern shorts. The animation is good [while not as good as Captain Donald or Mickey Monkey, and this one feels like a lower budgeted short - like some short of season one or two], but I'm fine with the Dutch stereotypes (X) here. The comedic timing was good too and this moves at a good pace.

(*) = This was a really good version of an foreigner speaking Dutch.

Favourite scene: Johan's Liquidation

Best actor: Martijn Lakemeier

Yeah... This is still my favourite Dutch film.

I bought the blu-ray some months back in Zeeland [for twice as cheap when sold used online!] and saw my chance to rewatch it on Liberation Day. I live close to the Provinciehuis van Overijssel where a festival took place. So pumped on the volume quite loud.

Martin Koolhoven's directing is great, the screenplay is great too although I have I few problems with how the horse is shot and no German soldiers locate the sound? This happens again when Michiel shoots Oom Ben. But those plot issues are very small and don't interrupt the watching experience.

I also cried like crazy during the scene where Johan gets shot and the ending where Michiel regains his ''childhood'' really got me.

Martijn Lakemeier delivered one of the best child performances on screen, he is that fucking good. And I love Pino Donaggio's musical score too, definitely one of his best scores for sure!

And this film feels extra special to me because they filmed this film in Zwolle, which is my hometown. And that stunt with Jack jumping down into the water from the IJsselbrug(*)... Mein Gott...

(*) = I'll be watching the extras of how this was done.

49. Kamer 330 (2019)

Votes: 27

Date Watched: Thursday, May. 5, 2022 | How I Watched: youtube on tv [third time watch]

I almost didn't watch this one because of two reasons. The first being the sound of the festival of Liberation Day droning through the neighbourhood and the second reason was that I had seen this one twice already.

Rhodé Gerrits' performance here is great, and for once Richelle Plantinga didn't deliver a bad performance. But I thought seeing Raymi Sambo and Peter Blok was off-putting for some reason I can't explain. And the directing by Jenneke Boeijink is solid.

Even on my third viewing I like this one. It is hard to call it "liking" this short because it is about "human trafficking", but the story is a bit vague around some plot points. Is the hotel a part of the human trafficking circle [as shown in the scene where Verhagen tells Linde that she can work internationally? The character of Brian shows no sign of concern when he sees the pimp and the abused girl, so is he knowly helping the human trafficking ring?

Far from being one of my favourites, but I remember it being a lot less funny than it actually is. I especially like the joke where Mickey tries to fix Goofy's looks, and the result being him looking like Minnie. I also really like seeing Scrooge McDuck here and the continuing running joke of Mickey, Donald and Goofy being kicked out of Scrooge's Mansion.

[Of course Goofy fell in love with a piece of bread lol. They did Clarabelle Cow dirty.]

I remember the first viewing not liking it, but I didn't know why I didn't like it, but with my second viewing I now know why.

This is about female to male abuse, and the way it is done feels wrong. The screenplay tries to cover up the abuse plot by making this a artsy-fartsy story, but I really hated the character of Marie. I just wanted to see Jan leave her abusive arse. Emma Westenberg's directing isn't bad, but it doesn't tell the story in a good and/or consistent way.

Also the Dutch [original] title is one of the weirdest titles ever.

I almost forgot to watch this one after rewatching Tenet, but I sneaked in the film before reviewing a film for the Collectie Collectief.

On my first viewing I liked this one, but now I don't. It is too on the nose.

Erik is a creepy little bastard and I hated him so much. If he was single and the same things happened it would still be creepy. Stefanie's got a kid! - Or takes care of one! Is Erik thinking with his pecker?

But on the other hand the directing is decent. I don't mind how it takes place in one house throughout the whole short and how the most of the house is used in such a short time. And the acting by Marc Madeleyn, Anemone Valcke and Geerteke van Lierop (and the kids who went uncredited) are fine too.

This is still a pretty excellent masterhouse of directing, acting, editing, etc. And this is probably the most experimental Scorsese film, and Thelma Schoonmaker's editing is superb.

With this watch I began to like this one a bit less. Keanu Reeves is still on his A-game, Riccardo Scamarcio delivered a good villian, and the action sequences are still great.

The actions of John Wick are a bit out of character though. He kills on Continental grounds which I don’t buy him doing so [even if Santino D'Antonio is a bit of an bitch]

This is my favourite of the John Wick films so far. And definitely the best with its cinematography, musical score (no offense to Marilyn Manson's Killing Strangers in the first one though). There are some screenplay issues [Like when one dog gets killed, but he's resurrected in the next scene. And I just don't buy John Wick surviving that high of a fall] that prevent it from being 5/5 stars for me.

Chris W. Mitchell's directing is really excellent. I'm definitely watching The Pool this October because he's already proven to understand horror. The acting is great too, with some excellent child acting.

A good friend wanted to watch this one and I was game.

This was a decent viewing, but I don’t like it that much.

Jon Lovitz actually delivered my favourite performance, which is kinda sad, considering Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese are in this as well [and their both hamming it up to 11].

The humour is over the top, but I still laughed quite a bit. The helicopter scene is funny, but the Barbie Museum scene is my favourite.

Where this film completely loses me is with its ending. The scene with Smash Mouth’s Steve Harwell feels incredibly forced. I felt like punching Steve Harwell in the fucking face (nothing against him, just that the scene is so fucking stupid).

My issues with the film still remain. The film drowns in excess [A shirtless Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh’s ego is on display here), and I definitely wasn’t a fan of the brother/sister relationship.]

Which is a shame, because I almost rated this 4/5 stars this time. Robert De Niro is better this time though.

The Steelbook blu-ray release is a real disappointment of my collection though. There are no extras on the disc. I get that Francis Ford Coppola denounced the film, but I want to see a making-of of this film, because this features excellent set design and the creature effects look fucking fantastic.

Favourite scene: The Final Clash

Best actor: Guy Pearce

I bought this blu-ray from a HMV (His Masters Voice) in Scotland back in 2019. At that time I rated the film 2.5/5 stars.

I wanted to see if I was too light on the film. And…

I like it less now. Christian Toft is a complete dipshit as a character, but they didn’t play up the arsehole level enough for my liking. When they revealed they Alex Boe was in love with Lars Hansen. I fucking laughed. It comes out of leftfield, and she should have a baby belly by now?

I don’t mind some of the ideas this film presents. The first idea being the character of Ezra Tarzi. His quest to find the one who killed his father is interesting to watch. The second idea I (kinda) liked was the interrogation sequence. Normally one character threatens another by releasing information - while holding them at gunpoint. But here it is by holding them into a warm pan of soup. I have never seen that on screen before. But this scene is pointless, because Ezra Tarzi gets nothing out of him.

And while I like the action in this, it is really stupid too. The terrorist attack on The Netherlands Film Festival is the worst. Nobody really acts scared even if three people are gunned down. And how doesn’t anybody of the terrorists hear Christian sneaking up to a baddie? And why doesn’t Joe Martin shoot Christian and Alex after they killed Ezra and Salah Al-Din? I could go on, but I’ll leave it at this.

I would be fine if I never see another modern Brian De Palma film. And José Luis Alcaine should never work with him again. He should just stick with Pedro Almodóvar. His cinematography just looks awful here!

It feels like director Janneke van Heesch doesn't understand men, and directs the two leads like they are the opposite sex [safe for the playful banter between them at the train station].

I remember not being into this one because I felt it would benefit being a feature length film(*), but my second viewing changed that.

There's a lot of drama in those eleven minutes. I also found the ending more impactful this time around. I just know he committed suicide without them even stating it.

I do still not like the comedic scene early on where the daughter steals something, but passes out after crashing into the glass pane. Really, she stole from a store that sells cheap products. Didn't really care for that.

(*) = When rewatching this, I played with the idea of this being a feature length film, and having somebody like Alex van Warmerdam or Paul Verhoeven direct a serious drama. I know both are genre directors, but I think both could do a good job regardless.

This was a long time coming. I bought the 2-disc blu-ray at a flea market for €2,50 last week. I watched this back in 2014 (or somewhere around that time) on either Netflix or blu-ray and I didn’t remember much of it.

So, a rewatch was in order.

Man, this was overwhelming! I don’t mind Leonardo DiCaprio as an actor (I much prefer Brad Pitt if we’re talking about 90s stars), but he’s good here. The practical stuff here is marvellous to look at too. The hallway scene just works so well.

The cast is a nice thing as well. People like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Elliot Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Marion Cotillard, Pete Postlethwaite, Michael Caine and Lukas Haas are all fantastic. I’m not big on Tom Hardy, but I like him here.

Hans Zimmer’s musical score has become a bit of a punching bag for his usage of a loud instruments and overblown sounds. But I do think it works here, because there’s an orchestra behind the louder stuff as well. Time is the most overrated piece Hans Zimmer has ever made, but I don’t mind its usage here either.

Another rewatch is in order!

I’m trying to watch every blu-ray from my collection [either already watched or not watched before]. In this case it was the latter one.

I owned this blu-ray for quite some time, but never got around to rewatching it.

But I’m glad I now did because it holds up so well on my third viewing [and weirdly enough my first two viewings of this were at my grandparents’ home – and this wasn’t].

David Fincher’s directing is superb, Michael Douglas and the cast around him are great. Howard Shore does deliver a solid score [although he has done better musical scores].

I don’t know why, but the scene where Michael Douglas’ Nicholas Van Orton jumps off the building always gets me emotional.

And I know people have complained about plot holes and such, but I don’t mind it that much.

I got my father curious for this one.

And the night I watched it with my father wasn’t the greatest time to do it. We had a sort of garage sale at our neighbourhood, and this drained my energy like crazy.

So that might be why I watched the film at the wrong time. And after watching it I was just completely drained with my energy and sleeping was a disaster too.

As for this film, I still think this is a okay film at best, but I do like it less now. I wish they sticked with John Kelly dying, even if screws with the lore. There’s a dream sequence (making people believe he died), but 1½ minutes later he’s shown to be alive. I would’ve preferred him dying for sure!

Michael B. Jordan is slightly better this time around. I do think the screenplay lets him down, but after watching the making-ofs on the blu-ray, I like that he was so hands on with this project. He did a lot of stunts himself. Also the practical effects really pop on screen better this time around.

But man, I really wish they didn’t colour grade this one, because it is really dark and there’s even one sequence a character being hit and hurt. It is one of the worst colour graded films.

I would be fine with never watching this again.

And because I am starting a special course next week, I won’t be able to watch much.
