Alec Baldwin is stepping away from Twitter. The actor announced his decision on, well, Twitter yesterday after comments he made about Rose McGowan and Harvey Weinstein were criticized. Asked why “nobody said anything” about the actress, Baldwin said during an interview with PBS NewsHour that “what happened was that Rose McGowan took a payment of $100,000 and settled her case with him. And it was for Rose McGowan to prosecute that case.”

The sinister cloud of the Great War hangs everywhere over See You Up There (Au revoir la-haut), a visually death-defying adaptation of Pierre Lemaitre's Goncourt-winning novel that follows three surviving soldiers who scheme their way to oblivion.

Au revoir, Pamela Anderson‘s restaurant industry career.
The vegan activist has pulled out of the plant-based eatery La Table du Marche she opened in the south of France on July 4th, according to a journal post on her blog. “Due to circumstances out of my control, I have to remove my name from the collaboration with Christophe Leroy,” Anderson wrote.
Though she says she was excited about creating a “sexy vegan experience” for her customers, she claims the restaurant “did not meet expectations or agreements.” The former Baywatch star did not provide specific examples, merely citing “mistreatment of staff” and “complete lack of respect.

Netflix hogged many of the headlines at Cannes, but left the Croisette empty-handed, with neither Okja or The Meyerowitz Stories picking up a major award. That perhaps unsurprising, given that Pedro Almodovar was very critical of the streaming giant at the festival’s opening press conference.

News that liberal-centrist Emmanuel Macron won the French presidential election in a landslide victory over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen became the No. 1 talked-about topic on Twitter Sunday, especially among the media. The Atlantic’s senior editor David Frum voiced his opinion with a meme of the Titanic sinking and the caption “Americans can take pride that their example still shapes the world,” Meanwhile, MSNBC’s Joy Reid said it succinctly in a foreign tongue: “Au revoir les fascists!” Also Read: Hollywood Celebrates Emmanuel Macron's Win of French Presidency: 'Merci France' Here are a few more of those no-holds-barred...

Quentin Tarantino’s films are famous for their non-linear narratives, for how they jump around in time like a skipping DVD, sometimes even willing their ways into alternate histories. And yet, despite all of their twisty plotting, his movies are increasingly defined by — and remembered for — self-contained scenes that stretch to the breaking point and seem to become iconic even as you’re first watching them. From the ingeniously knotted “Pulp Fiction” to the bifurcated “Death Proof”; from the sprawling “Kill Bill” (which is divided into 10 discrete chapters), to the snowbound “The Hateful Eight” (which limits itself to two locations and finds Tarantino challenging himself to hold a single note of suspense for hours at a time), these epic stories are shaped around chatty, taut, and indelible sequences that simmer with the potential for sudden acts of violence.

Last night's ABC Broadcast of The Bachelor surely had a lot of twists and turns but it was another love story that took the spotlight, the debut of the final trailer for Beauty and the Beast! Take a look after the jump!

Even the small parts that they've added only look to enhance the story. For instance, Luke Evans' Gaston talking to himself in the mirror, was an especially bright spot. The longing is understandable. After all, the Outlander star spent most of the Starz drama’s first season running around the Scottish highlands in Jamie Fraser’s airy ensemble, and those kind of threads can grow on a guy.

Starting life as a short stage play back in 2010, Sayonara made headlines internationally thanks to its novel use of an 'android' cast member. The artificial actor sat opposite human counterpart Bryerly Long as the two engaged in an intimate discussion on the themes of life and death. It wasn't long before Fukada Koji, award-winning director of Hospitalité and Au Revoir l'Eté, grabbed ahold of the project in order to turn it into a feature film. The finished work is all set to premiere in Tokyo International Film Festival's Competition section this week. Before the festival kicked off, I was lucky enough to sit down with the film's director and lead actress to talk about its production.Q. How was the transition from stage to...

“Soon all of this will be lost to the sea.”
Hannibal’s final hour has come and gone, crumbling into the ocean like the bluff outside the title character’s seaside retreat and taking with it one of the most horrific and visually audacious shows ever to air. ‘The Wrath of the Lamb’ is not without its failings, but it’s gorgeous theater from its opening moments to its grand finale, a Grand Guignol of burning houses, windswept cliffs, and arterial spray. It asks us to look carefully not just at what transpires but at what has come before, identifying in those murky annals the first signs of Will’s corruption.
Reba’s flight from Dolarhyde’s feigned murder-suicide is the nightmare that begins the end. Dolarhyde concocts an elaborate ruse involving a key on a necklace, a can of gas, a stranger’s corpse, and a shotgun to convince...

Taksu, the second feature by actress, producer, and now director Sugino Kiki, takes its title from the Balinese concept (often associated with dance) of artistry and charisma that taps into divine, spiritual power. And though it may be going too far to say that this is what Sugino achieves with this film, the artistic ambitiousness of her efforts are very clear, and she comes up with beautiful and mesmerizing results.Sugino, named "Muse of the Asian Indie Cinema" at the 2011 Tokyo International Film Festival, has been a frequent fixture on the festival circuit in the past few years, working with filmmakers such as Fukada Koji (Hospitalite, Au Revoir L'ete), Lim Kah Wai (Magic and Loss), Uchida Nobuteru (Odayaka), and Edmund Yeo (the short Exhalation), and...

All week long our writers will debate: Which was the greatest film year of the past half century. Click here for a complete list of our essays. While I tend to think of the '80s as a crassly commercial lull between the artistic adventurousness of the '70s and the independent experimentation of the '90s, there were things about the '80s that i hold dear in terms of what I love about movies. And if you're talking about the best of the '80s, the year that crystallized all the things the decade did well was 1988, a year that looks upon closer inspection like an embarrassment of riches. One of my twenty favorite films of all time, as outlined in this article, was released in 1988, which automatically makes it a year worth closer consideration. The '80s may have begun with one of his strongest films, but...

Yes, he does.

Au revoir, ombre! The last time Drew Barrymore made a public appearance, she was both very pregnant and very blonde. In keeping with the traditional theme of going darker for fall, the Blended actress showed off rich new auburn locks at The London 2014 Stella McCartney Green Carpet Collection event on Sept. 14. Photos: Celeb hair color makeovers Barrymore’s new hue is likely the work of a single process color transition, a dramatic departure from the 39-year-old star’s signature look she’s known for. Welcome back to the third and final article on woodwinds! This time I would like to explore the different ways in which woodwinds can carry the harmony within an orchestration.
I. Considerations
As it has been mentioned before, woodwinds do not possess the blending ability of strings. In other words, when combining instruments of the string section the result is a smooth homogenous sound. With woodwinds, however, due to great differences in tone colour from one instrument to another (and between different registers of the same instrument), it is much harder to achieve a homogenous sound.
The most important characteristic that a harmony part should exhibit is as Rimsky-Korsakov calls it “resonance equally distributed throughout”. In other words, different harmony parts should blend well together without moving the ear’s focus away from the melody parts. When it comes to woodwind harmony, there are a few tricks we can use...
