"Those brains are really creamy."
"A little poopy … in a good way."
It's clear from an exclusive montage celebrating Bizarre Foods' 200th episode Andrew Zimmern has tasted some crazy food – and loved it – during his time on the show.
The montage takes us through some of most peculiar and insane things Zimmern has tasted over the series's run. If there's one thing he's learned during this time, it's that we all have different definitions of weird.
"We have famously lived by the words of this show that one man's weird is another man's wonderful," says Zimmern, 54. "And, I have certainly put that to the test.

Andrew Zimmern has become famous for eating foods many Westerners find gross. But he is so very much more than the bravest eater in a frat house.
His Travel Channel show "Bizarre Foods America" ends Season 4 Monday, Sept. 2, in Houston, where he tries roasted buffalo, goat curry and raw trash fish.
The intrepid traveler, writer and James Beard Foundation Award winner is already working on new episodes. Though not a culinary school graduate, Zimmern is well schooled as a chef.
"I was at CIA (Culinary Institute of America) for 24 minutes in the spring of 1980," he tells Zap2it. "I would not say I ran away, but back then CIA wasn't what it is today. I felt very strongly that there was a tremendous disconnect between cooking in a school and learning about food side by side with someone teaching the craft. I still feel very strongly that way."

It probably shouldn't have surprised us, but Andrew Zimmern's invitation to spend an afternoon in foodie heaven directed us to a most unheavenly location — an eerily desolate postindustrial side street just across the river from Manhattan. But as is delightfully typical for his show, Bizarre Foods America, there were hidden wonders to be found. In this case: Xi'An Famous Foods Production Kitchen, nestled behind a blink-and-you'll-miss it storefront. It's spring, and Zimmern is shooting an episode dedicated to the borough ...

“Bizarre Foods” and “Bizarre Foods America” host Andrew Zimmern came on "Live! With Kelly” Tuesday and tried to convince Kelly Ripa to sample a whole bunch of weird food. Ripa isn’t the most adventurous eater, but she did try natto, fermented Japanese soybeans. It’s one of Zimmern’s favorites, but she couldn’t keep it down. "I can't!" she exclaimed.
Ripa refused to try geoduck, a Japanese clam, but did joke that it looked like a certain part of the male anatomy while wielding it menacingly at the audience. "This is nature, children ... Andrew Zimmern is joining some distinguished company. With the premiere of the summer season of "Bizarre Foods America" on Travel Channel Monday, July 9, his "Bizarre Foods" franchise reaches its 100th episode, and he's celebrating in style, spending the occasion in one of the world's most excessive locales -- Las Vegas.

Miami Beach, Fla. -- Andrew Zimmern already knows what he wants for the final course in a career built on a penchant for chowing unusual foods – a helping of politics.
"I'm going to run for public office in Minnesota," Zimmern, star of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern," said during an interview Thursday at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. "What level? I don't know. But I don't want to be a celebrity governor or anything like that."
Minnesota has already had one of those – former professional wrestler Jesse Ventura, who took office in the late 1990s. And of course there's also Sen. Al Franken, a former star on "Saturday Night Live" who was sworn in as one of the state's U.S. senator in 2009.

There's nothing really good on TV tonight, just the occasional show that's more entertaining than it has a right to be (looking at you, "White Collar" with your dashing suits and your Matt Bomer who seems to have finally gotten a handle on the crazy eyes. Also that girl that looks and soundslike Emma Stone and Emma Pillsbury from "Glee" went into the "If they Mated" machine. If you watch the show you know what I mean.) and a lot of reality stuff involving cupcakes. Ok, maybe not a lot of it involves cupcakes but two different shows on two different networks qualifies as a lot of cupcake shows as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you could just throw a movie on. I'd suggest The Jungle Book because I've been singing "I Wanna Be Like You" to myself All Day and I'm spreading that ear-worm as far as I can...

There are times when I have to sit back and look on the self-cannibalizing nature of television with a kind of sick admiration. My favorite example has always been "Trading Spouses" which went from a skit on "Chappelle's Show" mocking the "Trading Spaces" model by substituting people trading their actual marriages to an actual reality series where people... traded families. Last year there was a fictional series on Lifetime called "Huge" which was set in a weight-loss camp for teenagers. The kids on the show watched a TV series called "Love Handles" which was about overweight contestants battling to find love. "Huge" was cancelled after its first season. Tonight, we see the premiere of "Love Handles" on Lifetime which is a show where a couple go through "a dual transformation as overweight couples attempt to save their lives and relationships as they confront what lies at the core of their issues.

Lots more sports tonight, and as I sit here gazing out at weather in the mid-80s (or high 20s for those of you who speak Celsius) I find myself wondering how it is that two 'winter' sports are still going strong. Basketball makes slightly more sense, because it's always been played indoors so it doesn't matter as much what time of year the games are played. But hockey? I don't doubt there are still places where you could have an outdoor ice rink around this time of year but not for much longer. Is there an explanation for this other than "the season starts later than it should to accommodate football" or is that it? Questions for the ages, for sure. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

Listen, gentlemen of the Pajibaverse, don't think I didn't see you asking to see pictures of my dirty pillows last night (and, I guess, today for some of you) however I believe I've previously alluded to the fact that both my parents read this site so as far as Pajiba goes any of you hoping for a glimpse of the currently kind of reddish (I spent Easter on the beach) globes are shit out of luck. Besides, the always lovely and accommodating Joanna put up a gallery of lovely ladies and their lovely lady lumps that put me to shame in so many ways I can't begin to list all of them, so you can have your fill of mammary gawking over there. It's for the best, really, those are some Professional boobs whereas mine are utterly amateur. As far as gawking at the TV goes, you'll not find much...

Yesterday's post featuring a picture of Prince William, the always lovely Kate Middleton, and a fetching hat got me a lot more comments that I usually get on these posts so I'm curious to know what did it; Wills, the future Princess Shinyhair, or the hat? Even though I'm not in a tizzy about the royal wedding (April 29th is also my last day of classes and the day my not quite a thesis is due so I'm more focusing on that than the wedding of two people I don't and likely will never know) I'm not above using underhanded tactics to bring more attention to my column because I have useful information for you! Kind of. Let me know what you want to see in your Pajiba After Dark header picture and I'll do my best to make it happen. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

Every night I write this column I'm amazed at the sheer amount of television out there. Seriously, most nights I'm listing between 20-30 new episodes of TV and I'm not even listing all of them. Just the ones I figure most people in the Pajiban audience may be interested in/want to spew vitriol about or that are on widely available channels. Who watches all this? Why do these shows exist? Why are so many of them dedicated to pawn shops or similar concepts? I Have So Many Questions And I Can't Think Of Good Answers For Any Of Them. Some days I wonder if we wouldn't be better off eliminating some of these shows that seem to exist just to give other channels material to air in marathon style chunks on weekends (looking at you, "NCIS" and USA). Or just eliminating the channels themselves. But then I wouldn't have anything to write about.

Last day here at SXSW and while I'm sad to be leaving the awesome people, I am happy to be going back to Miami which is properly warm and without the nosebleed inducing levels of dryness. I'm one of the rare people you'll meet who's much happier when there's a certain level of humidity and Austin has exactly none. However, I have to get this finished and head out the door (I've finally given up on carting my laptop around with me everywhere and found out what the iPad is good for, not that I have an iPad) so here's your Tuesday night TV:
8:00pm: "The Biggest Loser" on NBC
"Glee" on Fox. They're singing an original song this week which they've been using as a selling point. I remain skeptical.
"Onion Sportsdome" on Comedy Central. First season finale.
"Eat & Cook Healthy! With Dr.John Lapuma" on PBS

Today is both International Women's Day and Mardi Gras and as a woman (though not quite an International Woman yet, not sure how to go about that part) and a lapsed Catholic, that gives me two reasons to celebrate tonight. Or, wait, do you celebrate International Women's Day or do you sit around in quiet contemplation reading depressing articles like I'm pretty sure you're supposed to do on World AIDS Day? Because I feel like if you are a woman-person (as I am) or are a man who has aligned himself positively with woman-people (in that you're a believer in gender equality and not in the "so women can see how good they really have it" not actually friendly to women way, like in the "people are people and should all be treated with the same amount of respect and consideration until they prove themselves to be a utter waste...

March is here, so I think some of you are supposed to be having days that resemble either lions or lambs. My day, on the other hand, is not at all wooly or fanged and in fact resembles most of the days we had last month. Which is to say, sunny and clear with a bit of a mild breeze. Sometimes people ask me if I miss seasons here in South Florida and I usually stare at them until they remember why that's a stupid question. And this time of year, the time when you're just aching for spring to show up for real and to be able to put your coat and boots away in anticipation of warmer weather and realizing you desperately need some Vitamin D before you either break down sobbing when the grocery store is out of your preferred flavor of yogurt or assault a pedestrian...

We are thick into tourist season here in Miami and as anyone else who's lived in an area that's popular to travel to can attest, it's a love/hate relationship. More the hate, most days. I've heard that Miami has a bad reputation among tourists because people are scared they'll get killed here and all I have to say to that is that it's not too likely if you're paying attention, don't go poking around in shady areas looking for "where the locals hang," and stay the hell out of the left lane if you're sightseeing while driving. Oh, also, Cuban coffee is not Starbucks coffee. If you usually get a venti triple shot whatever, you should still start with just the one weensy cup of café cubano. Trust me. I basically never have anything good to say about Tuesdays. They're when you realize that all your big plans for the week ("I'm gonna wake up earlier than I need to! And run! And not hit the snooze button ten times! And pack a healthy lunch every day!") aren't going to work out because everything that seems so simple and sensible in the evening when you're making these grand plans evaporates when the alarm goes off and your snoozy, lazy, take-out loving ass has the choice of hauling itself out of bed or spending another ten minutes warm and cozy under the covers. And you spend another day swearing at yourself as you realize you only have fifteen minutes to make yourself presentable, again, and race through getting ready inevitably forgetting something vital. Like pants. Or maybe that's just me. Here's your Tuesday night television:

The obnoxious Valentine's Day advertising/programming is nearing it's zenith and as much as I love my chocolate in cute little heart shapes with fruity pink fillings you can't get any other time of year, it's a bit much, right? If you really care about someone, chances are they don't need an overpriced teddy bear holding a heart shaped pillow to know it, and if you think that buying some schmaltzy piece of mall jewelry designed by that lady who was on that angel show is going to make up for not being affectionate the rest of the year, I feel sorry for your imminent rude awakening. This morning I got to take a shower with a plastic bag over my arm for the first time in weeks and it's absolute absurd how happy that made me. Until I see some sort of real accomplishment, like Egypt getting their president Mubarak to agree to step down, and I realize just how silly and trivial my life is. Cheerful train of thought, I know, but really nothing out of the ordinary for me. I don't think I have any Egyptian readers out there or if the internet is even back on in Egypt, but just in case, اتمنى لك كل السعادة. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

I won't be home watching TV tonight because I'll be out at American Airlines Arena trying to get Wade, Bosh, and LeBron to sign my cast. (Not really.) (Ok, I will be there and it'll be cool if they did, but I'm not counting on it. Wouldn't want to take valuable time away from their efforts at being underwhelming.) I'm kind of glad though because there's a whole lot of not very good happening tonight in TV land, at least as far as I'm concerned. Saturday morning I was helping my brother make burgers for a cookout he was having and sliced a smallish piece of my finger off with a mandolin slicer (google if you must). Not a bad injury, not even hitting my top five in terms of bloodiest things I've done to myself, but it hurts like a bitch if I put pressure near the top where I cut it. This means that the last few days I've been learning to touch-type without using my right middle finger. It's an interesting learning curve. I'm doing my best with the typos but I'll beg your indulgence on a few of them (at least I have an excuse this week that's not laziness and poor proofreading abilities), here's your Monday night TV:
8:00 p.m.: "The Bachelorette" on ABC.

What is it about Mondays that seems so depressing? Even if you're not working on Monday, it's just got that air about it, that "Oh, man, I can't believe it's Monday again" drag that hangs over everything. Doesn't help when it's also all rainy, and when there's nothing but crap on the TV that evening. Here's Monday night's offerings:
8:00pm: "The Bachelorette" on ABC
"Lie to Me" on Fox
"Little People, Big World" on Tlc
"The Secret Life of the American Teenager" on ABC Family. I know several of you out there, like I, have gotten somewhat lax with your Cannonball Read 2 reviews and/or reading. You've got other things that need to get done, you were too tired to read, you couldn't find anything interesting to read, whatever. You had your reasons. Looking at tonight's schedule I can nearly assure you that there is nothing tonight to distract you from writing up those reviews or diving into a new book. In fact, I encourage all you readers out there to share recommendations in the comments. Here is Monday night's really unremarkable TV:
8:00 p.m.: "The Bachelorette" on ABC
"Behind the Music: Dmx" on VH1. It says second season premiere, but that's a flat lie because I know that "Behind the Music" has been around since I was young and impressionable.
"Last Comic Standing" on NBC. Two hour seventh season premiere.
"Lie to Me" on Fox.

I was thinking about taking today off today for Memorial Day, but I'd already taken off yesterday and since I had nothing to do today except eat leftovers and nap, it seemed indulgent to not take 30 minutes to write up Pajiba After Dark. It's not really a great day for television, there's mostly a bunch of lame marathons going on and if you're interested in that particular marathon you probably already know it's happening. And I tip my hat to any of you who can stand an entire day of "Hoarders" episodes because that show kills souls. Misery Monday indeed. Here's your TV:
