Kellie Pickler’s husband Kyle Jacobs died from an apparent suicide at age 49 in February this year. In the months since, Pickler has maintained her silence while processing her grief. In her first statement on the country music songwriter’s death, issued to People on Thursday, the singer shared a word of advice that Jacobs would often tell her that has guided her through this time.

Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” video, which features clips of burning U.S. flags and protestors confronting police, was pulled by the Country Music Television channel on Tuesday after the country singer was blasted on Twitter for the song’s inflammatory lyrics and for where it was filmed.
In the clip, Aldean performs the song in front of the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee, a site of a notorious lynching of a Black man nearly 100 years ago.
The song, which was released in May, has already been interpreted by many as an ode to the notorious “sundown towns” of the past thanks to lyrics like, “Try that in a small town, see how far ya make it down the road … you cross that line it won’t take long for you to find out/recommend you don’t.”

Garth Brooks named Dolly Parton the Goat of country music, Chris Stapleton won his first-ever entertainer of the year title and Lainey Wilson continued her rise to stardom at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Parton closed the two-hour awards show Thursday with a performance of her rock anthem “World on Fire,” taken from her upcoming rock debut Rock Star. The song features lyrics like, “Don’t get me started on politics/Now how are we to live in a world like this?”
Fire burst from the stage during the performance, which featured a full band and 10 dancers.
“Country music’s rock star,” co-host Brooks said as he introduced the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and fellow host.

When it came time for Joshua Hedley to begin work on his second album, the polished Nineties country homage Neon Blue, the neo-traditionalist had only one guiding principle: make a record to be played on a pontoon boat.

The 2022 CMT Music Awards were handed out on Monday night, April 11, at 8:00pm Eastern on CBS. These awards honor the best in country music videos, but unlike the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Awards, which are voted on by industry peers, these awards are decided by fans. So who were the big winners? Scroll down for the complete list.
Kane Brown co-hosted the event with Kelsea Ballerini and Anthony Mackie, and he also led with four nominations including Video of the Year for “One Mississippi.” That category started with 12 nominees when they were initially announced. Johnson and breakthrough artist Breland followed with three nominations apiece.

In a pivot as dramatic as Hulk Hogan turning heel, Joshua Hedley eschews the Eddy Arnold Countrypolitan sounds of his 2018 debut Mr. Jukebox for the equally glossy but more contemporary sheen of the Nineties on his new song “Neon Blue.” Driven by chicken-picked Telecaster, sawing fiddle, and a full-throated chorus, it’s the sonic equivalent of Ol’ Hed challenging Alan Jackson for the honky-tonk championship belt.

A duet between Mickey Guyton, one of the “CMT Artists of the Year” honorees, and guest artist Yola on the title track of Guyton’s new “Remember Her Name” album brought memorable vocal firepower to the annual show’s 2021 in-person resumption, broadcast live from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center Wednesday night.
Other highlights included Randy Travis being emotionally saluted in speech by Garth Brooks and in song by Kane Brown, and Chris Stapleton getting the tribute treatment from Boyz II Men, again making explicit the oft-implicit, historical country/R&b connection.
After being introduced by dancer Misty Copeland, who described Guyton as “a pioneer,” Guyton expressed gratitude for her Breakthrough Artist of the Year award from the network. “Y’all, look at God,” said Guyton. “When the Lord closes a door, somewhere he opens a window. “CMT Artists of the Year,” which returns as a live show this month, will include some interdisciplinary duets among its lineup, as is customary — with honoree Kelsea Ballerini being joined by the Jonas Brothers, and Yola teaming up with Mickey Guyton, among other collaborations.
Some of the artists being feted on the broadcast will perform on their own, including Luke Combs, Gabby Barrett and Kane Brown. Others, like Guyton and Ballerini, will take part in pairings. But Chris Stapleton will presumably sit back while he’s serenaded by Boyz II Men and Pentatonix’s Kevin Olusola, who are set to collaborate in tribute to Stapleton.
The network is also finding a way to work in the hottest country song of the moment, even though its singer isn’t one of the night’s already designated honorees. That’s “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes, which will get its first live awards-show look on the CMT program.

Reba McEntire will repeat her co-hosting duties from last year’s Country Music Association Awards when the show returns to ABC Nov. 11, while Darius Rucker (of solo and Hootie & the Blowfish fame) has signed on as a host for the first time.
The announcement of the hosts — revealed on the network’s “Good Morning America” Monday morning — solves the longstanding riddle of who would fill those roles this year, as all of the major country music awards shows have been playing musical chairs recently. Thirty-five years to the month that his major-label debut single, “On the Other Hand,” was first released, Country Music Hall of Fame member Randy Travis has unveiled a never-before-heard track. “Fool’s Love Affair,” marks the first single of Travis’ career since a 2013 stroke robbed the singer of his distinctive, influential voice.
“Fool’s Love Affair” explores the temptations and repercussions of cheating, but acknowledges the folly of the illicit weekly romance, from secret phone calls and a familiar motel room to the lingering guilt and doubt that follow the couple’s liaisons,...

In October 2016, Randy Travis was among the three new inductees selected to enter the Country Music Hall of Fame, having led a neo-traditional renaissance after his commercial breakthrough in the Eighties. During his portion of the event, he did something entirely unexpected and performed a verse of “Amazing Grace” — in spite of the fact that his voice had largely been silenced after suffering a stroke three years earlier.
Through a combination of rehab, perseverance, and the unflagging support of his wife Mary, the “Forever and Ever, Amen” singer continues to make odds-defying progress.

Several years before Randy Travis adopted his stage name and changed country-music history, the native of Marshville, North Carolina, was still using his birth name Randy Traywick as the teenaged front man of a bar band called Country Lovin’, which played a regular gig at Charlotte’s Country City U.S.A. in the late Seventies. Travis, who turns 61 years old today, also had the opportunity to perform on local TV in 1978.
The Ken Linker Variety Hour, which began broadcasting locally in Charlotte in the mid-Sixties, featured musical guests from multiple genres.

The 2020 Country Music Hall of Fame inductees will be announced in just a few weeks. Which two country superstars will be selected this year for an induction ceremony slated for next October? Could this finally be the year for Tanya Tucker, who just won her first ever Grammy Awards after a career beginning back in the 1970s? Or will it be a more recent artist now eligible, such as Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw or Shania Twain?

Grammy Award-nominated and multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding will perform live at AT&T Stadium during the nationally televised halftime of the Dallas Cowboys game on CBS against the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving Day.
The kickoff performance is a Cowboys tradition, sounding the call for Americans to donate to the iconic Red Kettle Campaign, which helps provide shelter and meals for the homeless and hungry, Christmas toys for children and social service programs to millions of people in need year-round.
During a recent visit to The Salvation Army's New York Temple Corps soup kitchen, Ellie Goulding witnessed the impact of The Salvation Army’s services on people’s lives, funded by critical donations made during the Red Kettle Campaign and throughout the year.

When singer-songwriter Kendell Marvel went into the studio with Dan Auerbach and David Ferguson to start recording tracks for his second album, the producers offered him a key piece of advice: sing softer. The Illinois native, known to many as the songwriter behind cuts by Chris Stapleton and Gary Allan, had gotten used to playing rowdy live shows like his recurring Honky Tonk Experience, and having to practically shout to command the crowds. In the studio, however, singing at high volume was a limitation.

Cody Jinks repurposes his 2008 song “Think Like You Think” for a new album, Katie Pruitt captures the feeling of youth in her hook-filled “Expectations,” and Luke Combs cuts loose with Brooks & Dunn on “1, 2 Many” in this week’s list of the best country and Americana songs.
Cody Jinks, “Think Like You Think”
From the baritone guitar riffs to the deep-seated vocals, “Think Like You Think” rides low in the saddle, mixing the smooth rumble of Randy Travis’ Eighties classics with a raw, honest performance that does justice to Cody Jinks’ outlaw roots.

The 2019 Cmt Music Awards delivered the usual freewheeling mix of surprising musical collaborations, timely jokes and rowdy behavior. Triumphant pairings included Tanya Tucker and Brandi Carlile; Brett Young and Boyz II Men; and Maren Morris with Sheryl Crow. Luke Combs enjoyed his status as the hottest star of the moment, while Zac Brown sent an unsubtle message to his band’s haters. And mullets, surprisingly and somewhat perplexingly, reigned supreme.
