A former collaborator of Antoine Fuqua is suing the director for refusing to pay or credit him for his alleged work as a consultant on The Equalizer 3.
In a complaint filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Paul Lozada says he provided the production with a “treasure trove of information” about European organized crime, weapons and fight choreography to heighten the film’s authenticity. Fuqua allegedly told Lozada, who lists credits as a consultant or adviser on Fuqua titles Training Day, Tears of the Sun and 2014’s The Equalizer, that he’d have a position on the movie but never followed through.
In May 2022, Fuqua allegedly reached out to Lozada about collaborating on a possible TV project before asking for his input on The Equalizer 3, which opens in theaters Friday. Fuqua allegedly said he wasn’t satisfied with the script and “needed some real Italian Mafia inner workings,...

Deadline is hearing from close sources, however, that the arrested parties worked for a catering company which was an independent contractor and would likely be replaced.
They add that the men were arrested after a private gathering on a day off for the country’s November 1 All Saints’ public holiday and were not on set when their alleged crimes took place.
According to reports in the Italian press, Italian paramilitary police raided the accommodation where the men were staying Tuesday and seized 120 grams of cocaine.
Local carabinieri captain Umberto D’Angelantonio said two Roman caterers had been arrested and charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing and were now being held under house arrest at their hotel in the coastal town of Maiori.

Fuel-injecting some mega-muscle into the international box office landscape, Universal’s F9 has been set for a May 21 release date in China, a full five weeks before it is due to speed out domestically on June 25. But China won’t be the only overseas market to release early, as I hear several other key hubs are also going throughout the month of May including Korea (which will kick things off on May 19), Russia, the Middle East, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam.
The early offshore release dates reflect the recovery of — and confidence in — overseas markets, notably in Asia, where it’s been demonstrated that audiences are eager to return to cinemas when there is significant product available. And F9 certainly fits the event-level bill. In total, the Fast Saga across nine films has grossed nearly $6B worldwide and is the No. 6 global franchise ever (and the No. 2 biggest ‘original...

A year after the first trailer debuted at the Super Bowl, Universal has released a new “F9” spot for Super Bowl Lv ahead of the film’s release this May.
The new trailer shows Dominic Toretto enjoying a quiet life with Letty, musing about family before his life is once again turned upside down and sends him on another long series of death-defying stunts. But there’s one big difference this time: the threat facing Dominic and his team comes from none other than his long lost brother, Jakob, played by longtime wrestling hero John Cena in his first major performance as a villain.

Exclusive: Universal Pictures is planning to wrap up its Fast & Furious core film franchise with two final movies that will bring to a close a franchise that has revved its way to become the highest-grossing movie series in the studio’s history. Justin Lin, who is in post-production on F9, is in talks to direct the final two installments and bring a saga that began nearly 20 years ago to a close.
It’s early days on when this will begin production but it seems likely they will tell a big story over two films that will focus on franchise patriarch Vin Diesel and bring back Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang.

Universal on Friday pushed the release of its upcoming “Fast & Furious” sequel film back two months to Memorial Day 2021, from its previous April 2 date.
The move is among a recent slew of studio blockbuster release shifts, and it comes the same day that MGM moved the release of Daniel Craig’s final Bond film “No Time to Die” to April 2 from next month.
MGM’s shift comes after Disney announced release changes for many of its films, most notably “Black Widow,” which was set for release on November 6 but was moved to summer 2021.
This is the second time “F9” has moved its release date. Back in March Universal pushed the debut almost a full year from it scheduled May 22, 2020 release date.

The release of the next “Fast & Furious” installment, “F9,” has been delayed from May 22 to now opening on April 2, 2021, likely spurred by the wave of movies shifting release dates due to the spread of coronavirus.
Vin Diesel stars in the action franchise from Universal Pictures. It joins “A Quiet Place Part II,” “No Time To Die” and “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” among other films that have shifted release dates.
As has been the case with all of these films, while many movie theaters in the U.S. have yet to shutter, the international gross is highly important to the box office success of major franchise films, and moving the international release without also shifting the domestic opening could greatly impact piracy abroad.

While Sandra Bullock would eventually fall in love with Bird Box—a Netflix horror-thriller based on a novel by Josh Malerman and directed by Susanne Bier—the Oscar winner had quite a different reaction to the material in her first interaction with it some years ago.
“I thought it was intriguing, but there was something about it that didn’t click,” she told Deadline’s Pete Hammond during the Netflix film’s panel at Deadline’s The Contenders award-season event Saturday at the DGA Theater. “I don’t relate to someone who doesn’t want to be a mother; I don’t relate to someone who isn’t warm and can’t love freely. Then I read it a few years ago and it hit me in a way that I can’t explain.”

There’s plenty of room inside the Sherlock Holmes tent, with the canon easily available to everything from those fantastic gravel-crunching British movies, to teenage (Barry Levinson’s Young Sherlock Holmes) and elderly (Bill Condon’s Mr. Holmes) takes, Guy Ritchie’s action-hero versions and, most recently, a simply stunning modern adaptation pulled off by the BBC, Masterpiece Theater, Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
So add to that the newest inductee to the club, Sony/Columbia Pictures’ Holmes & Watson, a rare stab at a comedic take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Victorian master detective and his cohort, and the latest reteam of Will Ferrell and John C Reilly from their Talladega Nights and Step Brothers days. It probably will be hard to break Unbroken’s record for development time in getting to the screen. Universal had optioned World War II hero Louis Zamperini’s own story in 1957 as a vehicle for Tony Curtis, who was going to star but chose to do Spartacus instead. The project languished for decades until Laura Hillenbrand’s eight-years-in-the-making best-selling book made Zamperini a hot film property again. Angelina Jolie took quick interest in the story, got to know Zamperini and made the movie as her second directorial effort.
Jolie shows an epic command of the screen, whether shooting on water with sharks, crashing B-24s, dealing with the harsh brutality of Japanese prison camps or re-creating the 1936 Olympic Games. All of this was a part of Zamperini’s remarkable story, and Jolie not only has captured the scope of it all — with the key help of 11-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins — but most important,...
